So, I've noticed a really annoying trend in band; When one gets sick, we all get sick. First off, I was wondering if this happened to any other bands?

This year we are all coming arouns with a beginning of the year cold. It started with our flute sl. Then it spread to all student staff. Now the entire band has it. Including me. And i never get sick. So yeah, our student staff made us sick.

At first when this started going around, I was thinking that the sick kids should stay home. Now, I realize we would literally loose half the band at least if that were required. That would make settig drill very difficult.

So yeah. Anyone else having similar problems right now? I hate being sick...

Hm. Well, I wouldn't really know now, since I graduated and am currently bandless. ( crying ) But I get sick easily, especially during marching season. I think it would really have to do with what and how you got sick.

Most germs that get us sick are distributed through the air, or from sharing food or drink with a sick person. Another would be touching anything that a sick person has used. It also depends on the illness' ability to get people sick. If it's a cold, you're all likely to get it some time or another.

My theory is that when you spend enough time with sick people, you will eventually get sick. A cold is very common. (Heck, I get it at least once a year. XP ) It could be an outbreak, and you should all just take your medicine and lots of vitamin C. It can also be the weather. The year I had the worst cold ever was during an especially rainy marching season, and it rained just about every game. I was even told by a band member that I should stay home to get better.

Just let it runs its course and take care of yourselves. Since it is such a big group, it will not be hard to not catch anything at all. Kudos to you for not getting sick so often! But you'll all be okay. Remember: take your medicine, and have lots of vitamin C!! ^_^

Oh yes, it's VERY common around winter time for half the band to suddenly disappear from sickness. But hour problem is we are such a large portion of the school that we end up getting most of the school sick too. It kind of sucks when it happens because we miss so many people from it but it happens.
Getting sick is TERRIBLE >.<

It's because most the band, if your band is anything like mine, hangs out in the band room when they can, it's like a second, since there are people that will eventually get close germs spread. Another common thing is sharing instruments... in one day I think my trombone was picked up and played by 3 or 4 people, I found it annoying because all of them except for one, our brass staffer who really just needed to borrow the mouthpiece, didn't ask to play it. Their are certain people that I clean my mouthpiece out if I think they have played on it because they gets cold sores like crazy and I don't need that kind of trouble.
