"Get in."

The room was dim and the headmistress's voice less than pleasant when the door to her office opened. The entire administration office had been quiet and deserted when the ghoul had arrived. There was either something else important going in the school or...perhaps this was a really bad time to pay Hellma a visit.

Sammy had requested the meeting not long after everything ended. Her talk with Barth, the trip to the gym. It left her curious about a lot of things lately. She only paused for a moment at the sharp tone inside the office before marching in.

"Professor?" She paused again frowning placing the permission slip on the table between them. "I wanted to ask you about this permission slip... considering the last few... field trips we went on. I want to know what I'm signing myself into." She frowned a bit more, "Is this going to be another Jingle Berry? Some island with fog and crazy traps?"

Propping what may possibly be her chin on one of her tentacles, the headmistress stared at the ghoul with gleaming yellow eyes. "What is this Miss Lee? You have second thoughts? It is not incorrect, that you have faced many dangers as a student at this Academy. It would be a lie to say that you would not experience more of such. Ah then...I suppose..." A pool of darkness formed and shifted on the desk between them. From it's depths, a piece of paper rose. "You may take it back. Destroy it if you feel that is of necessity."

Her own eyes locked onto the gleaming glows of the head mistress. "I figured we would face more... I want to know what or why." She watched as the contract floated out from a shadow like void she didn't reach for it yet though. "We're just students, half of them aren't fit for this kind of... work." She continued to frown, how would she put it? "How can we do anything if we don't even know whats going on?"

With a put upon sigh, the headmistress countered, "And who are you to judge what the other students are or are not fit for? Who are you to assume you could do anything, even if I were to hand out answers like treats to all and any who ask? I'm not here to play mother, Miss Lee, I am here to turn Halloween's scarelings into adults." Leaning forward slightly, the headmistress smiled, teeth gleaming in the lantern light, "Do you think that life outside of this academy won't be full of dangers? Or surprises? Full of things you don't know about waiting just around the corner to take away everything you ever held dear."

With a sneer she mimicked the zombie's earlier phrase in mocking flasetto, "We're just students." She nudged the paper toward Sammy, "Just students? If all you're capable of being is just a student, then take this back. Destroy it. And leave."

"I saw half of my friends end up blasted into chunks of FEAR on the last trip, half of us going mad and I'm pretty sure Hyde drugged half our ship before we even reached that place."

Sammy for at least some points didn't budge when Hellma leaned in but Jack Damn if she didn't at least think of stepping back at that moment. "No, life won't be better possibly, but I thought we wouldn't be marched around a chess board like pawns for things we don't understand by our teachers."

The mocking didn't make things better, she ignored the paper for now, "No I'm not going to destroy it, if I don't go and do something it would just mean more trouble for everyone else who isn't ready. Espcially when teachers are waving those charms that sent us to the human world without warning and talking about traps." The last part was only what she had heard from Arel and Red, but it was enough to make her really wonder what was going on.

Hellma's smile turned slightly bitter, "Well. Now you know that you thought wrong. Beyond that...that would be those teachers' personal business, and is not so much for me to answer."

She paused and studied the ghoul for a moment, "The things you say...in reference to both yourself and the other students. You feel that you have...more to offer. That you are more prepared than they," the assessing look intensified, "...and perhaps you do. Would greater information make you a greater asset...it could be so. However, it is also possible that passing your exams has led you to a certain...arrogance."

Figures, she wouldn't learn anymore about the whole 'pendant' incident between Arel and Red, she'd have to see if anyone found something out later otherwise.

What came next almost felt like a compliment, and quickly b-lined into a brick wall laced with glass. Even as Hellma finished Sammy dipped her head ever slightly. When she looked up she slowly placed a hand over the paper pushing it back towards the head mistress. "I've gotten through Christmas, the Island, and Jingle Berry, arrogance or not I know that's worth something." She narrowed her own eyes grimacing slightly as she left the permission slip sitting in front of the Headmistress, or maybe it was a death wish; same difference at this rate.

"I'll be staying, at least that way I can at least try to make a difference regardless if you teachers decide to tell us anything or not."

The smile grew, "Excellent choice, Miss Lee. Perhaps while you're trying to make that difference in the face of terrible hardship and crippling ignorance, you should perhaps look more closely at the half of the student body you dismiss so easily. Many of whom also went through many of those same trials you list and possibly worse. Who knows? Perhaps they may hold the answers you seek."

It was an oddly polite way of asking the ghoul to pull her head out of her a**.

For a moment Sammy stood wondering just what Hellma meant. She ticked off names of friends she knew had been stuck on the island, the people she had met. Carry seemed like a choice to start with, but she already asked her and the poor Pride Demoness had no memories at all to work with. Names and faces continue to click through her head till a slightly squeaky Witches voice accompanied by an image of a blade shoved through her chest fell into place.

"That Witch, Emily... she was separate from everyone else and when she got back.... Jack-dammit." She turned for the door and started to move away, but stopped to look back at the headmistress with a slightly confused face. "I'm... sorry I was a bother Professor, and thank you... I think?" With that she left to head towards the Reaper Dorms, her permission slip signed and still sitting on Hellma's desk.

-- A while later... --

Finding Emily hadn't been hard most of the other Reapers had simply pointed and mentioned something about a crazy familiar and a rather skitish shut in of a girl. Of course she was a shut in considering almost no one knew what happened to her on the island... besides being brutally murdered in front of everyone just prior to the final showdown and escape. Slowly she made her way towards the door where most people had pointed her.

Slowly she raised her left hand letting bone meet wood as she knocked gently at the door, "Um Emily? Are you in right now?" Polite to ask, but by all accounts most people gave her she would surely be home right now.

The door cracked open and then widened to reveal a fairly tired looking Emily Device trying to smile in welcome. It ended up looking rather broken, but the intent was polite, at least. "H-hi...um...it was S-sammy, right?" She looked hopeful at the thought of maybe, maybe getting one small thing right.

At their feet came a caustic, male voice, "We don't want any. We aren't buying. We're not going to vote for you. Don't even think of mentioning HERPES."

The ghoul's expression fell a bit, "T-there's nothing wrong with HERPES...i-it was supposed to be a nice club."

"Well then next time don't name it yourself."

The look on Emily's face was a painful one, it reminded her of the same way Siddie looked at her for weeks after the whole event. Somewhere between shell shocked and something that she figured must be half awake and half asleep all at once. When she spoke Sammy offered a polite nod, "Yep, the one and only."

She glanced down towards the other voice frowning, "Not offering, not selling, nor am I running for any office. HERPES... I well..." She glanced up at Emily watching her frown and couldn't help but feel bad herself. She thought Shehk or Siddie could look gloomy; Emily took the cake for it currently. "It could always be worse right? Doesn't sound like a bad name to me." It was a fudge, the name sounded vaguely like some kind of mold Cricket might have mentioned in Sex Ed, but the poor ghoul looked like she needed it.

"Could I come in for a bit? I wanted to ask you about something that happened a while back..." She trailed off slightly, '... you know the day you got murdered and all on that crazy island' wasn't exactly the best way to bring up the topic.

The reaper's smile became slightly more natural for a brief moment, but vanished at the zombie's request, "Um...I..." her eyes flickered behind her, and then moved to the hallways, expression worried. She appeared to be trying to make a tough decision, with equally bad choices. "I..."

"Just get in here," the familiar replied for her, swatting the door open further.

The room was dark, but it was easy to tell that all was not right with one Emily Device. The walls and half the room had been stripped bare, with every possession and piece of furniture had been piled up on one side, in a sort of bizarre, makeshift fort.

Emily was quiet for a long moment, before shutting the door and asking quietly, "What did you want to ask me?"

That brief smile and how quickly it fled left Sammy feeling somewhat horrible. She almost went to back away from the door when the familiar decided otherwise knocking the door open farther. The fort to the side of the room caused Sammy to wince ever so slightly. Just a day ago she was making jokes with Barth about making something just like that to hide out in; it seemed Emily was doing just that.

For a while Sammy simply stood there awkwardly inspecting the fort as Emily shut the door behind them, when she spoke Sammy glanced back at the Witch with a small frown of sympathy. "When we went to that island... a lot of things happened, a lot of things I don't understand... I spoke to Hellma... she sort of pointed me here... I feel bad asking this. I know." She paused recalling the images of Riley, Jericho, and Malodore, all three of them split into lovely clean pieces in that last room. She shook her head pushing the images aside before speaking again, "I know a lot of us would rather just forget what happened back then. But you were separated from the rest of us, for a while.... what did you find in all that fog and chaos?"
