Gossip is known to every time period and class, and Medieval Germany is no exception. Even in the most tumultuous of times, rumors spread without regard for any attempts to control them. Often the rumors are just that -- rumors -- but sometimes there's a grain of truth behind the stories...

This thread is a place to post stories related to your characters that others aren't expected to respond to, although you're encouraged to post it in your court as well.

The nickname "Raven" and how it had become heard of.

Once in a pub, a man crossed Guntram in a game of dice and beat him by playing unfairly, and tried to rub it in Guntram's face and make fun of him for losing at such an easy game. This easily angered him and caused him to warn the man of his ignorance yet the man pressed on with his taunting and teasing, only to find himself to be tossed out into the streets where he was left to wander off home from the pub. The man drunk and staggering about found himself lost in the wood trail leading up to his home, that is when it was said he saw the raven sitting on a sign post watching the man's movements and where he went. The man made it to his home in the early hours of that morning to find his wife had be waiting for his arrival to yell at him for being out so late once more. He agreed with his wife once more just to quiet her complaints so he could tell her of the odd acting raven that had followed him from the sign post to his home.

The next morning the woman awoke to the man laying in bed with his throat slashed open and a raven sitting beside him on the bed post looking down. She ran out scream in tears and alerted the neighbors to this horrid discover of her husband's body. The local guard searched for clues, but the only one that was left behind as a single raven feather that had fallen off the bird that sat on the bed post watching the man's dead body, though the raven had already disappeared when they had gotten back into the house. A nearby neighbor to the man told the police that the last the man was seen he was taunting the Duke of Saxony about how he had beat him in a game of dice. Though they had no proof of who killed the man or if this murder had any connection to the Duke, but he was always high on the suspect list in this unsolved murder.

Deaths in Hainaut

In the winter of 910, just months before the election of the King, the count of Hainaut and his heir died from an illness. Things were quiet until Ralph showed interest in participating in the council to help electing a new king and asking for his favor.

As the months passed, the count's court flooded with rumors about the obvious reasons Ralph had to kill his family. Ralph's mother, afraid of what could happen, knowing how much the courtiers liked her husband, fled, leaving her son to solve everything by himself.

The rumors continued, everyone knew Ralph was neglected in favor of his older brother his whole life, and had no reason to like either of them. His personality, quiet and reserved, did not help either, and the fact that his parents neglected his education made things worse.
He spent his life watching his father and brother attentively, and he knew them very well. So why would he waste such opportunity of obtaining a title?

Engagement

Ralph count of Hainaut and Elizabeth of Wareham got engaged in Poissy Priory as part of an agreement between the two counts.
She stayed in Germany as a fosterling in Hainaut's court.
