Anhur the Sigilyph (Shinpora)
PostPosted: Mon Sep 12, 2011 6:11 am

Character Name: Anhur
Egyptian myth name of a sky god, meaning sky bearer, or brings back the distant one.
Type: Pokémon
Species: Sigilyph (Shinpora)

Gender: Male
Height: Tall, around 6' 2"
Age: 26

Hair Color: Would love his hair to be kinda long. V
Eye Color: V
Skin Color: V
Other: Sometimes Anhur wears wraps around his eyes because they are sensitive to light. All other visuals are up to the artist. I encourage complete artistic freedom.

Nature: Gentle

Ability:
Magic Guard
-The Pokémon only takes damage from attacks.
Skill Set:
Charge Beam
-May raise user's Special Attack. (70% chance)
Gust
-A gust of wind is whipped up by wings and launched at the target to inflict damage.
Air Cutter
-The user launches razor-like wind to slash the opposing team. Critical hits land more easily.
Shadow Ball
-The user hurls a shadowy blob at the target. It may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

Personality:
Calm (Positive)
-Coinciding with the easy going part of himself, Anhur is fairly calm most of the time. If someone steps on his foot, he simply shrugs it off and thinks of the deed as no big deal. It takes quite a lot for Anhur to get worked up.

Mediator (Neutral/Positive)
-Even though Anhur has been around humans for a long time, he remained innocent and naive from his Pokémon days. He believes that almost any problem can be solved by a single and simple solution. A lot of the time, Anhur tries to make everyone friends in order to prevent anything from escalating further.

Easy going (Neutral)
-Anhur is naturally easy going. Barely anything bothers him. Because of this, his words towards others are quite lax as well as his actions. When someone does wrong, he is the one who will suggest a fair (and often seemingly weak) punishment. His kindness towards others is what lowers the usual harsh tones of a personality. This trait also stems from when he was a Pokémon and life was easy going for a long time. As a human, this trait could get on someone's nerves since being easy going in the wrong situation is a common problem with Anhur.

Naive (Negative)
-Anhur is new to anything outside of his town (or if they say it's new to town) so if someone tells him something about the "outside world", he'll believe it. Seriously. Some one could tell him about killing in a nearby town is legal and he'll believe it. Or if someone says that there's a new town rule stating that chocolate is illegal he'll believe it. Poor guy even believes what he reads on the internet.

Idealistic (Neutral/Negative)
-Helping his trainer run a center for other disabled trainers has given Anhur motive to make the world a better place. His views on the disabled and those that are not nice to them is in grained into his mind and have changed him. His goals are very close and personal to him. Everything he Anhur does is to make sure that all disabled trainers are looked after and, if possible, cured. He can understand that somethings are just incurable, but he strives to find cures for them any way.

Strengths:
-His wings : Who doesn't think being able to fly is an advantage?

-His vision : Being able to see in any type of darkness? Oh yes.

-His grace : Grace and elegance interlace not only his words, but his whole being as well. The way Anhur moves is as if he still was a Pokémon, seemingly levitating off the ground and moving fluidly. This was half learned from his best friend, a Swana. Anhur lived by these elegant mannerisms for so long that they ingrained themselves into his being and have become a natural part of him.

Weaknesses:
-His vision : Although Anhur can see perfect in the dark, this makes his day time vision horrible. His eyes are extremely sensitive to light brighter than 10 watts and therefore he considers himself blind. Anhur has to constantly squint or keep his eyes shut and taped during the day.

-His hearing : Despite the other stories of increased hearing ability when sight is lost, Anhur's hearing isn't all that great. In fact, he is hard of hearing and asks others to repeat their words often.

-His words: He will mispronounce things half the time. Being a gijinka does come with side effects!

History:
Anhur was born in the dessert of Sinnoh to his parents, both of whom were Sigilyphs as well. Often when he was young, Anhur and other desert dwelling Pokémon would explore the nearby ruins. The adventuring and finding random gems and stones around the place was the highlight of his childhood.

As Anhur got older, his parents allowed him to venture across a nearby river, but not without at least one older Pokémon in the group of course. This is where he met his best friend, a Swana.

Anhur and this Swana did everything together until the days ended and he had to go back home. Out of compassion for their son, Anhur's parents moved to a spot closer to the river and made a new burrow. This made both Anhur and Swana happy as could be. During their time together, Swana taught Anhur about forest and river life as well as some mannerisms his flock of Swana followed. Anhur, in turn, taught Swana about desert life and the beauty of the world. Often times, after the home move, Anhur and Swana would fall asleep together on the side of the river.

Later in his life, Anhur met a traveling trainer. He had been boating up the river Anhur and Swana played in and around. The trainer camped in the area and spent time getting to know the Pokémon. Anhur became attached to the trainer while he stayed in the area with his other two companions. Swana was slower than Anhur to warm up to the young man but eventually became his friend as well. When it was time for the young man to leave the area, Anhur and Swana went with him, saying a tearful goodbye to their families. Once the trainer had secured them in Pokéballs, he decided to give Anhur his name, leaving Swana with the same name as his species.

After several years, Anhur and the other party Pokémon were taken in a violent raid. Anhur's trainer was paralyzed from the waist down from the incident. After a week, Officer Jenny caught the gang of trouble makers and gave all the captured Pokémon back. Nothing had been done to the pokemon - the trouble makers had simply kept them in their balls. The plan was to sell them all but that never happened. Anhur wasn't unfazed by this incident, though and it left a considerable dent on his psyche. He was angry at his trainer losing his ability to walk and made it his duty to help the man in any way he could.

The young man never quit trying to help others. He was barely bitter towards those that had caused his paralysis. He even started a group that helped out other disabled trainers whom never quit. Anhur developed a considerable interest in the group, more so than the other Pokémon in his trainer's party. His desire to help others grew and grew, so much so that he was waking up before his trainer to get ready for the day.

About two years later, Anhur had a wonderful dream. He was helping more humans than ever, more and more were getting better and were able to live well. Towards the end, Anhur met a strange man that was coloured with various pinks and lilacs. The man had an offer he just couldn't refuse. The offer allowed Anhur to become human and in doing so, help more people than he could as a Pokémon.

Unsurprisingly, he took the offer.

When Anhur woke up, he found himself in the same bed that he had slept in for years, but noticed that everything felt and looked different. The light coming in from the window bothered his eyes and head greatly. After a few hours of waiting for his trainer to wake up, he was helped out by the trainer. Fortunately for Anhur, he had spent enough time around humans to know how to speak to them, even if he wasn't very good at it.

This is where Anhur's story as a gijinka began...

Quirks:
-Anhur loves the beach or any body of water that has sand along its banks. It reminds him greatly of his days as a Pokémon.

-He loves chocolate. Cannot, I repeat cannot, go a day without eating at least a half pound of it. Seriously.

-His age has no effect on his personality, only his previous life as a Pokémon effects it.

-Natural animalistic urges are still there. He hasn't learned the meaning of "pleasure" yet, if you get my drift.

Hello m'dear! I'm in a mad rush this morning so I'm only going to target your personality since that's all I have to time for at this exact moment in time. This shouldn't come as any surprise to you as this was how we worked on your concept last time! *Grins*

First of all, I'm pleased to see that you're developing in leaps and bounds in terms of how you're expressing yourself. I can certainly see improvements in your word choice which is helping to clarify exactly what you mean, the only problem is that you are still getting a few traits jumbled.

1. Grace and Elegance
For the most part, this is described primarily as a physical trait, there's very little reference as to how this trait effects those in his immediate radius. Keep in mind that if it's a physical trait, then it doesn't belong in the personality section. If you want to keep it in here then you're going to have to explain how his grace affects those around him - how do they react to him because of it and what sort of 'mannerisms' does he possess? You haven't explained these and as a consequence, I don't know what he's like from this angle.

2. Justice vs Easy Going
Generally speaking, an individual can't really have a firm belief of justice and be easy going, it's not impossible but the individual is liable to have a warped sense of justice, honour and the law. Individuals who are laid back are less inclined towards drama and more inclined to letting people get away with something they've done wrong. A person who is ruled by Justice is more inclined to follow the word of law to the absolute maximum - the more severely inclined a person is to the word of law, the more zealous they become. However, nine out of ten times an individual who has a firm sense of justice will not be easy going or lenient on a person if they break the law.

You'll need to decide if you want him to be lenient, or if you want him to be firmer. If he's a lenient individual then it would be more reasonable to pursue a 'forgiving' personality trait, if he's a firmer individual then you can settle for 'Justice' and seek out an alternative to "Easy Going". Depending on the direction you want to go with Anhur, you'll have to decide this.

From a personal standpoint I can't quite pinpoint which direction he's heading in at the moment because there are two very different aspects to his personality that conflict and make him difficult to read.

3. Still has a temper...
Tempermental individuals are rarely laid back and easy going. You'll need to pick one and decide which you want! There's nothing to stop a graceful individual from being a prima donna (tempermental) or an easy going one so you have freedom in this respect.

4. Constant need for attention...
This can be summarised as "Attention Seeker" rather than writing out a long sentence for it. This is certainly an interesting personality trait that nudges him slightly closer to the diva category, but also stands a chance of conflicting with his easy-going nature. Easy going creatures aren't as likely to be attention seekers as they're so relaxed and laid back. You'll need to consider how best to approach this while writing up your personality traits for me.

Personality - Conclusions:
At present I can see him going one of three ways:
- Tempermental Diva
- Calm, easy-going and graceful
- Demure, graceful and attention seeking

Depending on whatever way you wish to translate his character, you may realise that it's one of these, or Anhur will develop into something different. At the moment he's giving off quite a few mixed signals so you'll need to sort through all his traits and pursue the ones you consider the most important. Focus on the ones you definitely need to make his character work and then work around them. If you believe a contradictory trait must be present e.g. Hot Tempered/Easy Going, then you're going to need to be very specific about when these two traits apply to one another.

Strengths:
Good, but maybe add his physical grace in here too?

Weakness:
Good, well thought out.

Hey there Epee and thanks for at least going over a section!

Temper - Well, I tried to make sure that it was clear he wasn't often like this by putting in instances where he could get frustrated or angry. I'll try to be even more specific.

Justice - Well maybe this should be changed to forgiving. I really want his easy going trait to be a main trait of Anhur so ill try to make sure it stays in the lime light.

Graceful - Oh, yes I see it now. It is more physical than a trait. I'll elaborate on the mannerisms in order for it to really show through.

Diva - Well, yeah I guess he could be a diva. I really wanted him to be sort of laid back and kind.

If I can't possibly make any of these work in my mind, I will change something to calm. After thinking it over, he does seem like his nature should be calm and I think I should explain that more. I might get rid of the graceful trait and put it into the strengths area like you suggested and put calm in.

-Nod- I shall change that around you've been very helpful! Thanks so much!

Again, just another contradiction...

Easy Going vs Attention Seeker

Easy Giong individuals generally don't require attention, they're relaxed and happy in their own skin and the circumstances they're in. From a personal stand point I'm having difficulties accepting both these traits in the same individual. Which is he? Is he an individual who's secure in his own skin, or an individual who requires that level of attention?

What is it that you're trying to convey exactly? At the moment I can only base my remarks on what I can see and you may be trying to express an entirely different point, you're just selecting the wrong words to define each trait. If you try to clarify, I might be able to give you some help but as it stands, it's currently not possible for him to be both.

Introverted + Attention Seeker (when defined properly) can work.
Meddling + Attention Seeker can work.
Idealist + Attention Seeker can work.
Naive + Attention Seeker can work.

These are just little examples, but each has their own way of complimenting on another while conveying a sense of the easy-going nature to a certain extent. If you can clarify what you mean, I might be able to help you much more. <3

Kay so.... Um.... Well he's secure in himself he just needs praise in a "I deserve it" kind of way.... I just don't know how to put that in formal words. LOL. orz

Katsu l Nya
That's a "sense of entitlement" or 'desire for recognition', if he believes he should be recognised and deserving of praise then that would be the phrase you're looking for. However with this in mind, an easy-going individual doesn't actually need praise and would generally be quite modest, so you may wish to reconsider that part of his personality as well to locate a phrase that fits in with his sense of entitlement e.g.

- Idealist
- Naive

These are just examples, there are others you can skim through but at present, 'easy going' isn't the most appropriate word to use. n_n

Additionally, if he has that desire for recognition you need to ask why - is he ambitious, or does he have aspirations? If he does, you have another personality trait sitting right under your nose. =)
