I have a few ideas for a roleplay that are pretty cool, but I want someone to help me with it. You see, I tend to get super enthralled with a roleplay once I start it. That's why I haven't been able to post here... and the other roleplays I was in fell dead. v_v, Now, I am striving for something epic!

To start; I want to create a story, something completely made up. Not based off of an animé or t.v. show. I want our own story with unique complex characters and abilities. I was thinking something along the lines of medieval fantasy with sci-fi... Anyone ever played an RPG? Where you get a party of friends and go kill the big bad guy? I want to create one of those, with a bit of direction here and there. But I need someone's (or a few people's) help to guide the roleplay in the right direction! I tend to go overboard, and sometimes make things too complex. However, I am organized and I have a lot of pretty awesome ideas.

Let me know here if you want to help me or if you have any ideas you might want to add onto my 'skeleton' for this roleplay!

Welcome to my thought bubble!

So here's what I got. I'm going to start with the skeletons for characters. And then, I'll list options for a story. The RP will be controlled, meaning, there will be events, not exactly timed, but based off of the progression in our posts. There may be an event such as a cave floor falling through and some of us falling into darkness, maybe a festival while passing through a town.

Here's my first rough sketch of a character skeleton:

I call myself...
And I am a...
I study the Art of the...
(But I also studied...)
I tend to be...
I am only capable of being myself....
Oh that? Pretty nice, leaves a nasty mark...

Here is a list of ideas and basic characteristics of different races. Remember, I need help on this! Post and give me suggestions!

1. Human: An all around race, capable of powerful magic and strong physical strength. Able to excel in almost any two arts.

2. Farla: A race that's very powerful magically. The Farla are normally shorter than most humans, thinner and paler as well. They have light hair and all have a few pieces that are in vibrant greens, reds, or neon colors. Their faces are long and pointed with very large eyes and long pointed ears. Farla are as diverse as humans as far as attitudes go, many do have two sides however.

3. Borru: A very 'down to earth' holistic race. The Borru are gifted with the spirit of the earth, giving them the ability to speak with any animal verbally, whether or not the animal listens is not their decision. Along with this gift, they were also granted with extremely powerful senses of hearing, sight, and smell. They look like humans, however, the Borru are generally tan skinned with square jaws and tatoos in a wide range of colors to match their native tribe. They are a kind people who avoid harming nature if possible.

4. Kyukk: A strong, aggressive race. Muscles built of steel. Are normally skilled with physical attacks or destructive magic.

5. Junpuni: A highly intelligent yet elegant race. This race is skilled with technology and has cat-like reflexes. Capable of little magic.

6. Fluda: Sky people. Have wings/capable of flight. Not sure of characteristics about this one yet!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the Arts you may choose from. Arts are different forms of combat that one may specialize in. Each Art takes study, for instance, one cannot be highly skilled as a Warrior and a Sorcerer. However, he may be a skilled warrior with a hand full of spells. Or vice versa, skilled in magic yet able to wield a sword if needed.
Physical Arts:
1. Warrior: Often cloaked in sturdy armor with strong weapons to match, warriors are the strength of any group or party. They are very skilled in physical combat techniques.
2. Rouge: Quick witted fighters. Normally in light armor with small, hidden weapons. Skilled in close combat and capable of moving extremely quickly through their opponent's attacks.
3. Guardian: Normally covered in heavy armor and armed with a large weapon, Guardians are protectors. They are brave and extremely skilled in combat, capable of killing some beasts in one simple blow. However, they move slower due to their weapon, so they make up for it in defense.
4. Strider: Long-range fighters. They are skilled with bows and arrows, guns, blow darts, and other long range weapons. Tend to stand from the back lines and fight from afar. Also, many Striders are skilled at tracking creatures and people.
5. Artificer: A craftsman skilled in basic tools as well as very complex technology. Artificers often have a plethora of technology to protect and aid them. Guns, forcefields, traps, bombs, mines, lasers, and telecommunications are all parts of an Artificer's abilities.
Magical Arts:
1. Sorcerer: Skilled in destructive magic and weaker in physical combat. Tend to wield magical armors, weapons, and charms to aid their spells.
2. Healer: Defensive magic casters. Capable of protecting, supporting, and healing themselves and others. Like Sorcerers, they also use magical equipment to aid to aid them.
3. Shaman: Earthy magic users with many different capabilities. Shamans can control or create their own beasts, cast curses and incantations, formulate different potions with alchemy. They are very attune to the natural world and are able to defend themselves physically.
4. Illusionist: Use magic to alter their surroundings. They can create traps, false-spells, distractions, light, and darkness. An Illusionist can also create illusions of water, walls, fire, holes, dangerous beasts and the like. They balance magic with physical combat.
5. Masque: A caster of very dark magic. Spells capable of driving people insane with agony or freight. Masques are skilled in evil trickery unlike an illusionist. In a sense, a Masque creates illusions for the mind's eye.
Here you are, you have finished your past life and you are faced with your next decision of reincarnation. You are ready to embark on your next life. In this new world you are to be born in, you are faced with the same set of physical laws common to you, however, there is also a metaphysical world entwined with your new-found physical world. Confused? The minds of the world before you are capable of a 'thing' commonly called 'magic.' It is a very common term, it has become just another word, it is capable by anyone. Some may need to study a few months, others maybe years. This world is not like the previous one you knew, not in the least. There are different races of people, rules of magic that alter the physical world around you, things you must learn. You will soon find yourself awakened.
<>
~These are the races you choose to be born in, to live your life and to start your story.~
The oldest race known;
Humans, the root of all other races. Commonly found throughout, this race is said to have given "the human spark" to all other races. Humans are strong, brave, and highly intelligent to anything they put their hearts into. Capable of great evil and good, as they see it, humans are by far one of the oldest of complex beings in this world. They are filled with emotions and sometimes act on them, not always in a good way either. After years of study from a young age, they are able to control and alter the world around them, in other words, create magic. Manipulate fire and minds of people. Physically, however, they are just as skilled, fast attacking and smart to weak points in armor and on the body, they are good Warriors, Rogues, Guardians, Striders, and Artificers alike. They are also capable of being skilled in any art of magic; Shaman, Healer, Illusionist, Sorcerer, and even a Masque's dark magic.
Sometimes called 'pixie people,' they only answer to
Farla. These people are a race that is very powerful magically. The Farla are normally shoulder height to someone just under six feet. All generally the same height, with thin light hair, skin, and bodies. Hair, often colored with special dyes they are quite other worldly at times. They have thin pointed ears as well as very dynamic personalities. They are second or third to humans and can sometimes resemble small children. Their multicolored hair and strange clothes often set them apart from children, only the most ignorant are unaware of the Farla. Farla are skilled magically, some come together and create amazing magical creations, portals to other dimensions that only the Farla can experience. Farla are skilled at healing others as well as harming them magically, but many blades and weapons are heavy for them due to their often lavish liftestyles. Sometimes, they can loose control on exponential proportions due to their possible strength, and sometimes often if he or she is highly disturbed. However Farla are common and seen as commonly as the humans in some places. They have been around as long as the Borru but are far more.
The
Borru very closely resemble their brother humans. However, they tend to be slightly more muscular than most and have very different attitudes. They are not as dynamic. As the other two races can, they can explode, like Farla often do, but they do so rarely and on much smaller proportions. They are generally a very calm race with close connection towards mother nature and the earth. They are very close to animals, dogs, cats, horses, birds, any creature of the earth and they are able to establish connections between many living things. Many Borru are capable of magic, less so than Farla, but on a very different level. Borru are not drawn to sorcerer, masque, nor healing magic alone, they are more drawn to shaman magic. Many Borru create their own potions, very different from others, this is a strong sign of a true shaman's alchemy. They are also able to start rain if very attune, pull down lightning, start land slides and more. All Borru, in the least, can heal themselves rapidly, some do it in their sleep only, but any are capable of it. These people are also strong physically and capable of bringing down many opponents. Borru also take great care in repopulating and becoming mainstreamed. They often prefer being out in the woods, staying in a tent or the like rather than inside. However, there are Borru who have moved to the city as well.
The perfect humanoid animal mix, the
Kyukk are great beasts in tune to both worlds. Sometimes called the animal people, the Kyukk are a fairly new race. Each male and female are different in large proportions. Males are large and vary in color. They have large muscles and have largely proportioned human bodies. Some males may have a mane or none at all. Their faces are slightly dog-eque but too flat to be called so. Some are quite vicious, as they can be very easily. The females are a tall women. Often just shorter than the males who easily tower over humans, the female Kyukk are very light on their feet. They are either short or long hair, depending on the family they came from, as is most cases. Kyukk females can often be deceitful and intimidating. They make excellent guardians, warriors, and rogues. Kyukk are often magically blunt, but they make better shamans or masques than sorcerers or healers. These people are often one track minded. Often, Kyukk and Farla do not get along due to their magical opposites, both, however, start fights with each other.
Junpuni
are slightly older than the Kyukk, however, it is unclear where they originally rein from. Many Junpuni, or Jun, are unsure themselves and often tell incorrect stories. Jun are often slightly taller than humans with long elegant bodies that do not match up to a human's anatomically. They have flat noses and very long black eyes. Many Jun have light hair, but some color it to appear more human. Their appearance is seen as strange because they sometimes appear as if they are filled with fluid, making them look almost transparent, however, they are physical with bones and blood nonetheless. Junpuni are very technical thinkers, making them best at being Artificers, Striders, Rogues, and Illusionists. They are capable of altering electromagnetic fields in the air and altering appearance of things, as well as altering machines as long as the logic flows smoothly in the mind of the caster. These people also make great weapons, traps, bombs etc. They need only the most basic of materials to create effective weapons. On another note, they are very emotionally dry, sometimes aggravating to people. Tending to get sucked up in their work, Jun may appear as if they're ignoring something, their mind is is able to split into two places, but only they can see that.
The following race is the newest; recently fallen from the sky, the
Flauda
people. Flaudian city was found on a landmass, hidden in the clouds in the sky. Flauda are much like humans, however, they are also like the Kyukk. They hold one characteristic of birds naturally; their wings. The wings are not always present, however, the Flaudians each have many different forms of their wings' genetics. In certain families, everyone may have wings that appear on their back in flight, appearing much like bird wings made of energy and rotating on floating points that appear on/behind the back. Others may have actual angle wings on their back, or may have arms that change can into wings at command. There are many possibilities with Flaudian wings. A typical person of this race is generally nice, more so like the humans than other races, however, they are very few. Flaudian's wings often make them nervous during battle, so the tend to use long range weapons and magic as striders or sorcerers. They also make good healers because they can be difficult to strike. All about the Flaudian is unknown, but all are easily noted by a tribal mark outside their left eye signifying their connection with wings and flight.
The rat folk are next, called
Grimar by name, they came from underground, as did the Iyss. Grimar are mousy or rat shaped with many different possibilities of fur colors. They are often seen as deceitful, despite the fact that they do make good Illusionists, Shamans, and Masques. They are not strong physically, but can run very fast if threatened. Many prefer to be something magical rather than nothing at all. They are near sighted so are restricted to close technology, devices, and the like. Grimar are average, sometimes seen as dirty, but now more and more mainstreamed, they are somewhat common. A Grimar's body is mouse shaped, and slightly large. Males are often larger than the females and there is a smaller race of Dwarf Grimar which are small short haired mice. All are capable of being sneaky and getting through somewhere quietly. Dwarf Grimar are much like Grimar except braver and more likely to become fighters. It is impossible for a Grimar to become a Guardian, they lack the physical strength.
The last are the
Iyss, a blood sucking race. This vampiric race look much like humans except with grey skin tones and black hair. They have wide pointed ears and average vision but intense hearing. Iyss are called 'tormented souls' or 'disgusting' but nature has made them the way they are. The general public may often not except them, sometimes making their lives harder. So, the Iyss hide underground. Their bodies have evolved more than most humans think, many of their natural abilities are unknown and still locked away. Some Iyss are recorded of having intense magical abilities over darkness, making them excellent Masques and Sorcerers. They are also smart in technology, theirs, however, is slightly more magical, in a sense. An Iyss' weapons they create can channel their abilities, sometimes to other magical or natural capabilities, as said before, much is still unknown. The Iyss are also reportedly magically and physically strong, however, there are few hard facts. Rumors of Guardians bringing down several city guards at a time with magic to carry far but thin.
How's it look? I know the code is ******** but im tired and doing it by hand, lol.
'ello, Dakuo here. Some friends and I are currently endeavoring to make an RPG like computer game ourselves. If you're willing to wait until 1-ish I can help you put together this roleplay. I, myself, have some experience putting together RPG like settings and I'm already hard at work constructing material for this RP. I'm currently assembling and defining the "Arts" as you call them and looking over some old material for the other 2 races. I've also renamed Sprites as Farla, but I'm not fully satisfied yet with my work, so please wait a bit before you pass judgement on the name change. I might have something cooler later.
Omigah! Awesome! I will also need help with the story so it doesn't get too boring or repetitive.
I used the word 'arts' instead of 'classes' or 'jobs' because I wanted to be unique. xP Essentially, they're all the same, just fighting styles. What word do you prefer? For this post I'll keep using arts.
I also wanted to keep a sort of open-ness about arts so whoever joined would be able to have a character (or characters) that are unique and not simply a 'jack of the trade.' For instance, primary, secondary, and apprentice arts? Some type of scale like that. Let me know what you think!
Here's my interpretation of the arts you listed. But I'm not familiar with all of them, are their other words for strider, artificer, and masque?
1. Warrior: Often cloaked in sturdy armor with strong weapons to match, warriors are the strength of any group or party. They are very skilled in physical combat techniques and may know a hand full of spells.
2. Strider: Long-range fighters. They are skilled with bows and arrows, guns, blow darts, and other long range weapons. Tend to stand from the back line and fight from afar.
3. Rouge: Quick witted fighters. Normally in light armor with small, hidden weapons. Skilled in close combat and capable of moving extremely quickly through their opponent's attacks.
4. Sorcerer: Skilled in black/dark/destructive magic and weaker in physical combat. Tend to wield magical armors, weapons, and charms to aid their spells.
5. Healer: White/healing/defensive magic casters. Capable of protecting, supporting, and healing themselves and others. Like Sorcerers, they also use magical equipment to aid to aid them.
6. Shaman: Earthy magic users with many different capabilities. Shamans can control or create their own beasts, cast curses and incantations, formulate different potions with alchemy. They are very attune to the natural world and are able to defend themselves physically.
7. Illusionist: Use magic to alter their surroundings. They can create traps, false-spells, distractions, light, and darkness. An Illusionist can also create illusions of water, walls, fire, holes, dangerous beasts and the like.
8. Guardian: Normally covered in heavy armor and armed with a large weapon, Guardians are protectors. They are brave and extremely skilled in combat, capable of killing some beasts in one simple blow. However, they move slower due to their weapon, so they make up for it in defense.
9. Masque: ?
10. Artificer: ?
Anything in red means I wasn't sure about the direction you wanted to go with said art. I was also unsure about Guardian and Rogue, I know what they mean to me, but I don't know if it's the same picture for you.
Also, how should we go about describing the different races? I was thinking we could generally describe how an average one looks and then let the others run with the idea? Or do you know where we might be able to find pictures matching the ideas thus far?
Sure thing. [/ bro fist]
"Arts" sound fine actually, reminds me of this book series I've been reading called Shadows of the Apt. Each different race of people in the book have unique abilities referred to generally as Art, which are usually quite magic-like, but are considered separate from magic, which some Kinden (the generic name for the races) typically don't believe in.
Primary and Secondary Arts sound fine, my current main RP Orion actually has a similar set up for multiclassing, and Apprentice Arts are little out of my norm, but as long as we specify the strength and importance of each level of Art I think we're good.
Strider and Masque are actually job types unique to some of my own personal settings. Striders are basically ranger / archer type characters and Masques are evil magicians who wear a mask of bone to hide their identities. They wield dark and death type magics.
Artificer is basically a tech user. You said that some character were experienced with technology so that was the best I could come up with.
The Guardian, Strider, and Rouge descriptions are all fine, pretty much exactly what I wanted.
Oh, and I figure that if we can find pics that fit then that'll be fine, but I guess we can just let people go with what they want if we are unable to find any decent or relevant pics for the races.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 4:57 am
Okay. So we'll nix the apprentice arts then. I'm going to edit a few of my posts, put the different descriptions in and move them around a bit.
But I don't think I get the 'whole' picture on masques. Are there any specific differences between a masque and a sorcerer? Are masques more physical or magical? Also, are there any very specific restrictions we should put on any of the arts?
Awesome! I'd love to help get this RP up. I can probably help out with your story. Not sure what I can offer at the moment, but what do you need to develop now?
I'm not 100% sure yet, just start of with threads really. I was thinking that everyone could write their own history each somehow tied into another all linking to one person that they each want to reap vengeance on, but is that too tacky? Also, I need help with races. I've actually put a few of my ideas on paper and I'm putting it on paper after I post this. So if you have any way to help in that dept., that'd be awesome. Other than that, I'm pretty close to done. Classes are made, so we have a base on that foot right now. Everything is really open minded, so if you bring ideas to the table, they'll get put up, I'm sure! biggrin
I'm going to move this to the Roleplay OOC subforum, just since it's not getting much business now. Anyone who wants to help can still head over there and find this.
