Name: Bannen (Bahn-nen)
Age:18
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Weyrbrat/Candidate

History: Bannen and his identical twin brother Kanen were born at Benden Weyr, not the products of Flight like many of their fellows, but fostered nonetheless. Between pranks and switching places to trick the fellow folk of the Weyr, they had an uneventful, but amusing, childhood. The age of 12 Turns brought entrance into the ranks of the Candidacy, but so far both boys have been unsuccessful in finding their draconic partners, if in fact they exist at all. Though Kanen seems to be thinking ahead on the front of what to do should they age out, Bannen prefers to trust to luck and the fact that he has to become a dragonrider. Just has to. What he fears most of all is he or his twin Impressing but without the other; it sounds like a surefire way to be separated, something they have avoided most of their lives at Benden Weyr. The growing nearness of the Red Star does not phase even this lazy candidate, for the most glory and reknown go to the dragonriders who fight bravely when Thread falls.

Description: Bannen is somewhat tall at 5'10” and of a fairly average build that tends towards lanky. He has a ready smile that often sends his brown eyes crinkling in mirth, and light brown straight hair to about shoulder length that always looks rather messy. Effortless is what he'd like to call his appearance—the more critical might knowingly call it “lazy” instead—but he can on special occasions be found trim and presentable for all of five minutes.

Personality:
Bannen is not one to be easily ruffled or irritated about things, and he hardly ever takes even insults or jeers personally. Laidback in both dress and manner, it's expending effort he has a real trouble with, for Bannen is quite lazy. Sure, his chores will get done eventually (if he can't talk someone into doing them for him), but clearly socializing and having a good time is the far more important task. He has learned well the acceptable bare minimum of effort in chores and lessons needed to avoid scolding, and one would be hard-pressed to find him applying himself more, except to the task of being mischievous and clever.

Bannen is quite friendly and social, and always has a welcoming word for any new candidates or visitors to Benden Weyr. Given his even temperament, he usually finds it easy to make and keep friends, and he genuinely enjoys the company of large groups of people. Of course, he enjoys the company of women a little more—Bannen is rather a flirt, and puts slightly more effort into pursuing the pretty lady of the week. But relationships with Bannen never last long, though he tries to part on the friendliest of terms where he can. He likes playing the field, and there's little shortage of willing women in the weyr.

But no matter how close he gets to other people, they will never be more important to him than his twin brother, Kanen. Fostered together from birth, the identical twins have rarely spent more than a few hours apart, and where one goes, the other can be found following after.

Bannen has a good sense of humor and is a definite tease, be it with the ladies or needling his foster-siblings or fellow candidates. He's quite optimistic and is almost always sporting a ready grin. But he's also something of a troublemaker, and has the experience of many a dirty chore on account of pranks and jokes that others in authority did not find quite so funny. His primary goal, besides being a showoff, is to entertain and get others to laugh, and he doesn't mind pranks being played on him so long as the joke was funny. For the most part he sticks to smaller-scale pranking and tries very hard to being charming when he's caught and facing yet another hard chore as punishment.

Bannen is fairly charismatic with his confidence and quick wit, always ready with a quip. However, he is still growing into that wit of his, and he hasn't quite mastered the fine art of when to stop talking. There isn't always much of a filter from his brain to his mouth, and more often than not Kanen has to steer conversations away from Bannen's thoughtless conversational missteps. Mostly this takes the form of him failing to properly chat up a girl or saying something that, if he'd bothered to spare a thought, would strike even him as a bit thoughtless. But he doesn't fuss much about this mistakes, which makes it all the more difficult for him to change his behavior.

Bannen is almost surprisingly more calm and cool-headed than excitable, especially in a crisis. Very little phases him. Unless, of course, something were to happen to his twin brother, and then Bannen gets a little ruthless in seeking revenge. Nothing can be allowed to harm his brother. Even when Kanen isn't involved, Bannen is the type to calculate efficiency over morality—do the ends justify the means? He's the type to take the more long term view, and believes a little collateral damage for the sake of the greater good is perfectly justifiable.
