I understand this is a touchy subject for some people, but I feel it's necessary to remember 9/11 and all the people who were lost.

10 years ago today, four passenger jets were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists. 2 of the flights (American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175) were intentionally crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Both of the towers collapsed within two hours.
Another jet (American Airlines Flight 77) was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.
The fourth jet (United Airlines Flight 93) crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after the passengers attempted to take control of the flight before it could reach the hijacker's intended target in Washington DC.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.

Suspicion quickly fell on al-Qaeda, and in 2004, the group's leader Osama bin Laden, who had initially denied involvement, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Al-Qaeda and bin Laden cited U.S. support of Israel, the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, and sanctions against Iraq as motives for the attacks. The United States responded to the attacks by launching the War on Terror, invading Afghanistan to depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda members. Many countries strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. In May 2011, after years at large, bin Laden was found and killed.

The destruction caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan. Cleanup of the World Trade Center site was completed in May 2002. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is scheduled to open on September 11, 2011. Adjacent to the memorial, the 1,776 feet (541 m) One World Trade Center is estimated for completion by 2013. The Pentagon was repaired within a year, and the Pentagon Memorial opened, adjacent to the building, in 2008. Ground was broken for the Flight 93 National Memorial in November 2009, and the memorial was formally dedicated on September 10, 2011.

This is a video of the plane crashing into the Pentagon. The plane crashes at about 1:25, but it goes by quickly.

This is another view of the plane crashing into the Pentagon. This time the plane crashes about 25 seconds into the video.

Pentagon Crash View #2

There were a total of 2,996 deaths, including the 19 hijackers and 2,977 victims. The victims included 246 on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,606 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. All the deaths in the attacks were civilians, except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon.

That was when I was in high school, it happened during my global history class. One girl had to leave because she was worried about her mother since she worked around the area.

Well the people who were behind the 9/11 attack are all dead. The hijackers, who died crashing the planes into the buildings and Osama bin Laden who was assassinated.

Sooo.... yeah....

And try not to quote me entirely xP

i was in first grade. the announcement for the teachers to meet up in the highschool office came over the intercom and all the teachers went up there and came back a few minutes later. they told us all to get our backpacks ready to go home and follow the teachers aids up to the front of the highschool building, next to the flag. we had been learning about flag ettiquette that week and when we got there two seniors were lowering the flag to half-staff.
when the whole school was assembled on the front lawn, the principal stood up on a bench and told us an edited version of what was going on. it mainly consisted of him saying that "bad men" had done something really scary and bad up in new york city and at the pentagon, which, since we were little kids, we didnt know what that was.
he told us that it was so bad that alot of people had gotten hurt, and alot more people were really really scared. he dismissed us and had our teachers load us on the busses to be taken home, but my mom came up and took me off the bus and home in the car. i remember walking in the living room and seeing the T.V. showing a building on fire and then another one right beside it, and it was on fire too. then i remember hearing the news anchors screaming, and the second building collapsed.

all i remember thinking was that i had just seen something terrible happen. it wasnt until an assembly the next day where it was explained to us what exactly we knew happened that my thoughts were proved correct. and unlike some people who dont even look at the calender on 9/11 and even note that its there, every year that passes the magnitude of that event gets alittle greater for me. its actually my clearest childhood memory, watching those two towers collapse on T.V. in my living room....

frankly im just alittle miffed at the fact that when people think about 9/11 their thoughts only stray to the twin towers and the pentagon. only a select few remember Flight 93, which fought and died bravely, taking control of their own fate and possibly hundreds of other innoccent people's lives somewhere in Washington D.C.. they're just as brave hearted as the firefighters and first responders and ordinary citizens who rushed to the aid of their fellow americans in the world trade center and the pentagon; yet, they are less mentioned and talked about, barely remembered but in the hearts and minds of those who lost loved ones on the flight, or who lived in or near Shanksville, PA.

they did just as much and maybe even more than than those who rescued people from and died in the towers. they prevented the tragedy from becoming even more devistating at the cost of their own lives and the closure of their families, who after such a terrible and devistating crash had nothing to bury, save the rare lucky identified stray appendage or personal effect.

lets remember ALL of our heros, not simply the ones better known.

I don't remember anything since I was only three. But my mom says I was in day care while she was at home watching the news. My grandfather was in New York City the week of 9/11. He's a pilot and he loves his job and because he's a pilot, I've been around lots of other pilots and I've practically grown up around airplanes, so the thing about 9/11 that's so distressful to me, is how all these civillians are getting hurt based on the actions of politicians and other people. Citizens who wouldn't hurt a fly getting killed just makes me really somber and I think about if my grandpa, who plays a bigger part in my life then most grandfathers, had been flying one of those planes. It just really bothers me even though I wasn't directly affected by the events that day.
