 It had been a rather unbearable summer. The sun was always shining, so much so that heat radiated from anything that had felt its touch for even only mere moments. Zillah thought the rays would never end. It had made hunting almost impossible since every creature had hid to keep cool.
However, the winds were changing. For the past couple of days the air had finally become somewhat cooler (though still heated), life was actually returning to what had previously been a wasteland of activity. Now, now was the time that Zillah could actually hunt. So, wasting no time, he had started his trek out to the woods in hopes of some new game...

Evelene sat underneath the shade of a fairly large oak tree, tail swaying in the wind. Normally under these circumstances, she would have simply continued to play until exhaustion overtook her, but today was particularly hot, and her fur felt as if it were on fire. It had been this way for the past couple of days, her having to take cover by the lake to ensure there was something to re-hydrate her should she need it. It also provided a great way to cool down alone. No one ever stopped by in her secret little grove, especially during these dry spells. It was peaceful, and yet there never seemed to be anything to do. She was social, not the type to enjoy long periods without company. She could only sit there and watch the various animals scurry for cover underneath trees from the sun's rays.
In her paws, Evelene toyed with a small stick bug. She took amusement in watching the little green bug climb over her paws, only to be knocked back down and foolishly try again. It was the only thing that kept her from going stir crazy in the limited shade under the tree. She despised with all her heart having to stay still to preserve herself, and the shade was so small, the tree being too large. Eventually she released the poor bug, watching it scamper up the bark and onto a branch just above her head. It crawled all the way across to a large leaf and sat, waiting for the predators to pass before moving on. Lazy, lazy, lazy days, she mused, turning over to cool her underbelly.

Zillah yawned, stretching his neck as his eyes swiveled around. Now... where was that prey. Sniffing, he could smell someone close. Someone was here. He'd find them, he'd have fun with them.
Stepping passed a couple bushes, he paused when he heard movement, peering through the brush to spot the pale green female. A grin spread on his face as he stepped out to where she could see him, "Pardon me. I saw you there... and I was hoping you wouldn't mind if I joined you?"

Stranger danger! Eveline frowned, memories of her mother drifting up. She wrinkled her nose. No need for those ideas. "Sure!" She rolled over, grinning at him. "It's really hot out, you shouldn't be standing out there like that." She nodded solemnly, batting her paws at a new bug in the grass.
