The sun was shining, a lone blonde was singing happily to the birds in the window as she made her bed and cleaned her room, and all was right within the castle. The day was going to be brilliant and later she was to have dinner with the King and Queen of the castle. All was right with the world--
Until Carolyn woke up. Stifling a mortified groan as she stood up, she checked her bandages and went to find a new thing to keep her occupied. Shuffling her feet from the living quarters on the first floor to the dining room she found herself wishing vehemently that there was coffee; but no, there was water. Or warm water if she wanted it. It irritated her to think that thus far none of the sailor scouts and knights that had been travelling to and from space and Earth had thought that caffeine was going to be a survival tool.

So with a pout she took her little plastic cup of water and continued to shuffle her way towards the gardens. She'd already helped to make all of the available rooms in the castle ready for those transferring over from Virgo's healing camp and now she just couldn't think of anything else to do. Her eyes scanned the over-growth and she sighed. "Maybe if I clear this area out it will make people smile." She knew she was talking to herself, but she didn't care. The sound of her own voice was all she had of her own lately.

"Making people smile is a nice thought. Do you need help?"

Grant hadn't meant to appear out of no where like a creeper, and he was trying to avoid scaring her by talking to her in a normal, conversational voice. He looked at her. a smile on his face and his eyes bright. He had his wrist in a splint, but he was feeling just fine.

Maybe because he was very good at pretending everything was just fine, as normal as it could be. If this was their new normal, then he could deal with that until he went back to his real normal. And if this all did turn out to be a television show, he would certainly not say 'I told you so' to anyone, as that would be very rude.

And he was not rude.

He had been getting himself a drink of water as well when he saw her come up. She didn't seem to see him, and when she spoke to herself abotu the garden he thought he'd take his chance to indicate that he was there.

"You look like you might need something to make you smile, if that's not too sad to say."

Carolyn jumped a little, splashing a bit of her water, but turned on the newcomer with a grateful smile. "D'ya think so?" She looked the guy over and thought she recognized him, maybe as one of the others that had chosen to let Chronos help others first. Like she had. Whether it was intentional or not she always liked to see some kind of kindred spirit.

Call her crazy, but she was sure this guy was definitely thinking what she was-- Everyone needed to be a bit happier right now.

Holding out her hand, she introduced herself. "I'm Carolyn. I'm not sure I really need to smile so much as I want to help others smile." She took a sip of her water and then looked down at the cup longingly. "Or possibly coffee. That could do too."

He was indeed thinking just that. Things were very sad and tense and strained. While he understood, certainly, why people needed to feel that way, he was not going to contribute more to it. He was going to do what he could, instead, to make things better for everyone. To make them happier, and to make things easier to deal with.

Everyone was scared.

He was, too, but that wouldn't stop him.

"Well, you can help more if you're smiling too, you know. And if it's honest. But I can see how it's hard here, with all this mess. Still, they're taking good care of us, and they don't want us to be hurt or upset. They're very nice here." He smiled, "even without coffee. I wonder if any of the other outposts have any? It might be worth taking a look." Always the optimist, he imagined if they looked hard enough, they'd find what they wanted.

"You're right," she answered immediately. Of course he was. As far as she was aware the best cure for any kind of blue feeling was a genuine smile and a hug. She really liked to give hugs. "The best cure for any bad day is to turn that frown upside down and chase the rainclouds away." Her finger had pointed fairly dramatically, like she was directing a group of school kids or making a lecture, but it was the truth. Something her mother had told her once that she'd never let go of.

"It's fascinating really. The news is always illustrating these people as terrorists and horrible, but I don't think anyone would see them that way if they could see how much they're helping us. We're in their world now and all they seem to want to do is make sure we're safe and happy until they can get us home." She hugged her ribs gently and her smile got brighter. "Which I guess just means there has to be coffee around here somewhere."

Grant smiled at her broadly, showing his straight, white teeth as he laughed with genuine amusement. He nodded his head, though her serious delivery seemed a little to the counter point.

He was a fairly literal person. He missed things like nuances or jokes or sarcasm quite often. But her look didn't do much to diminish her words, and that was what he agreed with the most. He nodded his head enthusiastically.

"You think these people are the same as the terrorists?"

Grant had trouble accepting reality as it was. He listened to what the news told him and he believed them, but at the same time he saw things and had to understand them for himself. He did so in steps, digesting things slowly and only processing them when necessary. It was easier to walk through life in an oblivious daze.

It made being happy a lot easier, for one.

"I thought this was some kind of reality show," he shared, having no reason to think these people were the same as the terrorists in the news, besides the fact that they could do strange things and wore skirts. Maybe that should have been more than enough. "We'll find your coffee! I'll help you. I'm sure there's a kitchen somewhere."
