This wasn't the first time Veer had ventured into this room: full of equipment, experiments, concoctions and creations, his first pass through had been brief, however. He wanted a computer, he wanted the internet. He wanted a phone. He wanted to be able to order Dominos without talking to another human being. He wanted games and fun and --

Well. None of that was here. So he'd left then, but now he was back, and this time he was setting his hands on everything. Vials of strange fluid [at least he didn't spill them], tongs and knives [fingerprints wouldn't harm them, right?] -- and he lingered on some of the strange whirring equipment. Veer liked things with moving parts, with the hum of motors and fans.

He didn't know what any of them did, and while he was good with code, he wasn't particularly good at either building things or figuring out how they worked. Add to that the fact that nothing was in English, and he was hopelessly lost. He pushed and prodded and got exactly nowhere, but it was at least better than getting roped into clearing rubble.

On the flipside, Joshua had stumbled on this room on a brief visit to Aquarius to spread out some of the food, and it was love at first sight. The vials and stuff didn't really hold his attention, no - it was the equipment that did.

He was kind of going through withdrawal. Fixing furniture helped, but what he longed for was a good machine.

He has an halfway complete robot back at school. He hoped no one had taken the project and wrecked it by now.

Sigh.

But this was intriguing, to the point where the black-haired teen did not notice he was not alone in this strange room.

Maybe he'd notice when Veer cursed -- sudden and sharp, his own eyes lifting up to lock on the Joshua. He had a piece of something in his hand. A piece that was supposed to be connected. At least it didn't look like whatever-it-was had snapped; instead it had broken away at a pivot point, at a joint. He didn't know how the hell to put it back on, but theoretically, perhaps, it could be reattached...

He cleared his throat and set it down very slowly. "I didn't do it."

Yup, he sure did notice then, head snapping back up.

...What had he been doing touching these things ?! Not that it hadn't crossed Joshua's mind... But he'd refrained.

He's come close through, before he'd caught his awe.

Now, he was bound to get in trouble... No, they were bound to get in trouble, since he was also in this room.

Damnit.

"Let me look." He didn't hesistate to push the boy a bit, studying both the piece he was holding and the place he had been standing just in front of.

It didn't look snapped... Maybe if he just figured out where the piece was supposed to go, no one would be the wiser.

Veer made a noise, tried to look apologetic -- but his expression was more amused than anything else as he offered the metal piece over into Joshua's hands. The second the younger man had taken it, it stopped being his responsibility, and that was great in his book. This way, Veer wouldn't be the one to take the heat, if authority stepped in on them...

"Can you tell what the ******** it's supposed to do, too? I mean. does that look like any of the s**t you've ever seen on earth?" He leaned back against a table as Joshua looked, and bumped a bunch of vials. They wobbled...but didn't fall down.

"I have no idea." It looked like this one couldn't form a sentence without using any sort of cuss word. In a way he could understand the stress of the situation, but... uh.

"But how about you stop trying to break the whole room, hm ?"

Thankfully, this didn't take rocket science - at least not for a small piece like this. There was a groove along the metal, and he slid the piece back in it,

Thre.

"Next time, you break it, you pay it."

"Next time, I break it? I'm hiding the pieces before anyone can see." He grinned shamelessly at Joshua, and even shifted a little to grab up one of the test tubes -- smelling the contents, grimacing, and then setting it back into place again.

"...stinks." Veer straightened as he said it, shaking his head and shoving hands into the pockets of his pants. His eyes were already off of Joshua and twitching around the room. The equipment really did catch his attention, far more interesting than anything else he'd found so far.

He hadn't yet hit the weapons room, though.

"We met before, right?"

...Yeah. He was sure that would work insanely well for him. But that was his problem, really.

And Joshua would probably have laughed if smelling that had knocked him right out. Ha.

Veer's statement made him ponder, through. Sure enough, his face seemed familiar. "Um... I want to say the drinking game, but..."

But Josh had gotten pretty damn hammered that day, and his recollection was.... a little fuzzy.

Oh, hell yeah. He beamed at that, too-bright, really, straightening away from the table some. Drinking game had been fun -- definitely more fun than anything else he'd done her, so far. No one nagging him to work or scowling when he didn't or playing holier-than-though or lecturing.

He was really tired of the lecturing.

With a nod, he rolled a hand near his head, trying to remember the name and...coming up short. "...uh. I'm Veer. Did you introduce yourself?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 12, 2011 3:41 pm

"Yeah, I did." Actually, he didn't remember if he had. Difficult to say. But like hell he was gonna admit that !

Nuh uh.

"Joshua." He said with a nod, hands sliding into his pocket. "What brings you in here, anyway ? I thought I was the only one to be even remotely interested in this room..." It seemed like something only a nerd could truly appreciate.

"Oh. well." He blinked at that, looking around the place again, and then pulled a little bit of a face, trying to gather his thoughts.

"...well I did a bunch of bio stuff for a while, when my dad was threatening military school if I didn't at least seriously consider going predoc. As if thinking about it would make a difference; I don't think most prissy-a** med schools would snatch me up, minority or not." He plinked a test tube again, at that, meaningful. "So I thought I could poke around some. But, uh, more importantly..."

He looked up again, offered a big flash of a grin and a quick, twitchy shrug. "Was hoping for a computer. I'm like dying, man. This is the biggest load of s**t ever. What kind of society was this that they didn't have computers?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:18 pm

"Ah... Honestly all that bio stuff always seemed a little boring to me." But that or military school ? Ouch. Thankfully, engineering seemed a 'worthy' enough vocation in the eyes of his parents, so much that he ended up all but shipped across the continent, more or less.

"An interesting, if curious one, perhaps..." He had ended up with his gaze on some other piece of equipment again. "Very interesting..."

A part of him seemed to be filling appearances and stats, seeing if they could be of any use back on Earth.

"I think you mean 'boring as ********'." Veer shook his head, flicking a glass again, making it wobble and not-quite fall over. He looked somewhat despairing, not sure what even to do with himself. The days were long, up here, without anything to distract.

"Potentially more productive than us, though." He said it slowly, grudgingly, his shoulders shifting. At least he knew his own faults -- "If I didn't have a WoW account I'd probably win a Nobel prize. Have the time to spare. Attention for more projects."

A moment's pause, a twitch of a smile. "I think I'd rather play WoW."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 2:00 pm

"Oh god, I haven't even played WoW since Cataclysm came out. Been playing since the start, got bored with it." He shrugged.

But Joshua didn't agree with the boring part, not at all - he remained outright fascinated with his surroundings. "...That could make a badass base for a robot..." He mused out loud.

The vials did not seem to catch his attention in any way howsoever.

"Except that you can't program the damned thing. I asked straight up if that Aquarius chick had a computer we could use and she got all pissy and rararara." He opened and closed his hand in a pretty poor mimicry of how Aquarius spoke. He thought it was pretty good, though. It got the 'blah blah blah' vibe across pretty well.

"Moving parts do not a robot make. If it doesn't have a brain, what's the use in there? If you can't tell it what the ******** to do it'll just go in a straight line forever, right?" He straightened, finally, huffing out a quick sigh as he did. Done with this place, more or less. Considering giving the weapon's room a second look-over.
