Tennis by his self was not the same, but it would have to do. Technically, Lian was playing tennis with a machine, but the difference was minor. It was just a hunk of metal parts pieced together, cooperating to mechanically punt out neon yellow balls at a calculated rate—luckily for him, he had adjusted the settings to keep the timing random and more difficult for him. He sprinted left and right, forward and backward, rushing so his racket would hit the ball at just the right spot, with just the right angle and speed that sent the object spinning away with a resounding pop. However, it bored him far too quickly. It wasn’t the same as competing against another player, whose shots were far more eclectic and even difficult at times to hit. A machine was too perfect and consistent when shooting out balls. Hardly shocking when Lian strode over to the opposite side of the court and switched off the machine.
After picking up the storm of balls that littered one of the court’s back walls, Lian plopped down on the side bench. Eyes closed, he wiped the sweat off his neck and gruffly wiped it onto his shorts. He zipped his racket into its cover and slung the strap over his shoulder. Despite the warm up, he found his throat to be dry and thirsty, so he exited the court and searched for a vending machine. Flicking open his can as it quietly hissed, he glanced into one of the rooms and curiously observed for a bit.

In said room was Lily dressed in an emerald green leotard, black tights and ballet slippers. She was practicing of course, as she took a ballet class for school and currently did not have ballet lessons with private instructed.
Classical musical played softly in the background and Lily practiced a series of jumps which she was very good at. She'd adapted ballet dancing to basically her own personal fighting style as a senshi long ago, so jumps were sort of her thing. It was what got her pulled further into ballet and why she continued with her private instructor.
Assemblé. Assemblé. Emboité. Emboité. Grand jeté ... Lily stopped suddenly and looked right out the door wide eyed as if she realized someone was watching. She gave a small shy wave, before walking out of sight and turning off the music.

Lian had only been planning to observe for a bit, but apparently even just a few seconds was enough for him to get caught red-handed. The redhead, her eyes wide with shock, froze before timidly waving and rushing over to turn off the music. He frowned and shifted his position, taking another quick sip of his drink before he poked his head inside.
“Was I distracting you?” He was staring. She had noticed. Of course he had distracted her. Lian scratched the back of his neck, suddenly feeling guilty about his presence. The girl had been practicing alone and probably preferred it that way—he spoke from personal experience. When it came to sports, he always preferred to run his drills in solitude rather than with the company of a friend or teammate. There something pleasing about silence.
“Uh, sorry about disturbing your practice. I…I could get you a drink as an apology, or something…” Sometimes, he really sucked at social interactions.

The music clicked off and Lily turned at the voice in the door. Her cheeks colored slightly, but it was hardly noticeable with ample red hair falling around her face. "No, I wasn't bothered. I thought maybe you need something. You startled me a bit," she admitted. She'd been into her practice and for once she gotten lost in what she was doing.
When he offered to buy her a drink as an apology, she smiled and pulled out a bottle of water from her bag. "No need to apologize and I have some water here. Just wasn't sure if you needed something. I've been hogging this room a lot, that in the music room with the piano."
She took a sip of her drink before going over to the boy, "Im Lily. It's nice to meet you. Sorry for making you think you did something wrong."

“Oh, no. I don’t need anything. I was just watching.” Lian mentally berated himself. Way to sound like a creeper. “I mean, I don’t dance so it was interesting to watch you dance.” On the bright side, he didn’t like some awkward teenager, stumbling over his words and uncomfortably shifting in place.
He nodded. “I see.” Lian took another sip from his drink. “The music room?” He quirked a curious brow at the mention. Personally, he didn’t know how to play an instrument—he was an athlete and animal lover through and through—but it certainly caught his attention. “So I’m assuming you like music, too? Play the piano, I assume?” He remembered his mom attempting to sign him up for piano lessons when he was a child, but he had vehemently quit after a few years. Something about just sitting there for long periods of time bothered him. Lian nodded again and brought out a hand. “I’m Lian, likewise. And it’s no problem. It’s my fault for disturbing your practice.”

Lily smiled, "glad to here you like it. I don't think I'm very good though my instructor begs to differ. She would know that she has been instructing me for the majority of my life. Eleven whole years, crazy huh?" She took another sip of her water.
Lily nodded when he asked about the music room nodding again when he asked about the piano. "Yes, I play, but I much prefer to sing. It is my passion. I wish to be a singer and maybe someday the whole world will hear me sing," Lily spoke as friendly as ever not at all bothered that she'd only just met this new boy or that she stood in a leotard and tights.
"Its nice to meet you. I like you name, its nice," she turned to the cd player and pulled out her disk and started packing up her things figuring she really should be done for the day anyway. Her stomach growled anyway and she gave a small laugh.
"My stomach tells me it hungry," she giggled, "what about you?" Blue-green eyes looked at him with much curiosity. Lily was always up for making a new friend and what better way than over a snack.

“Eleven years, you say?” Lian asked, taking another sip from his drink. He averted his eyes for a brief moment before diverting them back to Lily. “I don’t think it’s crazy. If you really love dancing then it’s not surprising at all.” His free hand tightly held onto the strap of his tennis bag. “I’ve been playing tennis for about that long.” Lian’s eyes drifted toward the ceiling as he went to actually calculate and confirm his estimate. “Perhaps a couple more years, actually.”
“A singer. I see. That’s a pretty ambitious dream.” He liked and appreciated music, but singing or playing an instruments were not his specialties. Sports and physicals he could do. Tending to injured animals he could also do—thanks to his veterinarian mother. Lian shifted uncomfortably at the compliment. “Well, it’s actually Carnelian.” A grimace. What kind of mother named their son after such an obscure mineral? He could not understand her sometimes. “But it’s easier to go by Lian.”
He cracked a smile. “Sure, why not?” Finishing off the last of his drink, Lian expertly tossed it into the trashcan and wiped off the last of his sweat. “Do you have a particular place you want to go to?”

"Yeah eleven year, though I can't say that I love it, but I can say I thoroughly enjoy it and it is great exercise. I've also been really improving as of late, though still like I said I do not think I that great," she said with a smile. "It's cool to find someone who has been dedicated to one thing for so long, you don't always see that in young adults.
Lily grinned slightly, "its been my dream for as long as I can remember. One day you'll see, they'll be advertising me and people will line up for days to get ticket." She gave a laugh, showing she wasn't being full of herself, her words were in good fun.
She when he gave his whole name, she thought it was lovely and it seemed to fit him, or his face at least. She really did not know anything about the guy. She nodded again and smile when he agree to lunch and went over to her things to pull a pair a short over her leotard and leggings.
"There is a sub shop on campus near the cafeteria or would you rather someplace of campus. College food is not always the best," she said.

“You’ve done it for so long, but you don’t love it?” It seemed peculiar to Lian. He wasn’t a very expressive person and he sometimes had difficulties expressing his emotions and opinions, but it seemed clear to him that he loved tennis, with billiards being a close second. It wasn’t something he said often, but at least it was something the young man acknowledged. For now, his skepticism ended there. “Seems so, but it’s probably more common than we think.”
While Lily appeared to be in good fun, Lian wasn’t quite the same. Instead, he raised an eyebrow at her. “If you really are set on becoming a professional dancer than I would imagine you would have to love dancing, not just enjoy it.” He shrugged. “That’s just my take on it.” An arm gripped the strap of his tennis bag and shook his head. “No, going to a sub shop is fine with me. They have some pretty good sandwiches,” Lian reassured her as he slowly made his way out of the room.

"No, I can't say I do, but I wouldn't give it up. It's important to me even if its not most important," she said with a small smile. She looked thoughtful for a second and nodded to his statement. "Probably so, I guess we'd have to ask to find out huh?" She gave a small laugh.
She looked thoroughly confused at his next statement, as she did not think she had said anything about dancing professionally. She shock her head, "I think I've gotten you turned about. I don't want to dance professionally, I want to be a singer. I love singing, for me its like second nature, like breathing. I imagine I will have to dance as well in that profession, which was one of the reasons I kept up with it. It's not the only really though.
She grinned when he said the sub shop was just fine and wave her hand at the door, "well off we go then."
She lead the way to the shop which was a good distance, but not to far away, and it seemed in no time at all they were ordering their meals and trying to find a good seat.
"It's really crowded in here. Do you mind if we eat outside," she asked over all the chatter.

Lian stared at Lily. “Oh. I see.” Well, that was that. He wasn’t going to say anything else on the matter.
He held his tray with both hands, carefully balancing the cup of water he had ordered with his sandwich. Frowning, Lian paid careful heed to not bump into the other students that filled the shop, though he certainly had a few close calls. “What?” he replied, raising his voice above the cacophony. Lian wasn’t sure if he had heard her right, but he nodded his head anyways. She said to eat outside, right? “Yes, that’s fine me.” He did his best to maneuver through the crowd, though his tennis bag made it slightly difficult. Eventually, he managed to navigate his way out and pushed open the glass door. Compared to inside, the outside tables were significantly empty and Lian found little problem in finding a place. He unwrapped his sandwich and took a bite. For a while, he remained silent before he piped up, “Don’t you have another dream?”

Lily sat down across from Lian opening her sandwich and nibbling at it before he spoke making her look at him for a moment before she looked up at the sky her expression thoughtful. Yeah she had other dream, one of which she couldn't tell him, another of which she would, but she nodded none the less.
"Yes. I love animals and have volunteers at the city animal shelter and some of the little ones as well. I would love to work with animals if I couldn't sing. Possibly be a veterinarian. What about you?"
She took another bite of her sandwich looking at him not really he was enjoying her company, but happy that at least he didn't seem annoyed. Not that she really annoyed people, except that guy from karaoke.

He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes before he went back to eating his sandwich. Lian reached out for his drink and took a sip while he waited for Lily to speak again. He wasn’t in too much of a hurry.
Pleasant surprise and approval flashed across his features before he resumed his usual serious expression. “I do too.” He hesitated for a few seconds, filling the silence with another bite from his meal before he answered, “I’ll probably take over my mother’s veterinary clinic.” Lian didn’t seem irked by the idea, like some might, but he wasn’t forced into it. Caring for animals was in his blood and he couldn’t imagine himself doing anything else in the future. As Lian looked up at Lily again, he noticed her staring at him and he quickly averted his gaze. Her company wasn’t the most exciting thing he’d ever done, but it wasn’t like it was some sort of dull lecture his professors occasionally gave. “Do you have a pet?”

Lily grinned relaxing a bit, "that wonderful, lucky too. I imagine if I became a vet I would want to work at the city animal shelter. It's so relaxing to be able to work with animals and they really appreciate you for it."
She took a sip of her drink and work at her sandwich a bit more nodding at his next question. "I adopted a dog from the shelter a year ago now. His name is Eamon, poor thing had been through a lot. He previous owners abused him before he came to the shelter and I just totally fell in love with him."
She took a few more sips of her drink and another bite of her sandwich, "Do you have a pet?"

Lian closed his eyes. “They do,” he murmured quietly, a startling softness to his tone, which was usually hard and blunt. He nodded his head understandingly while he took another bite from his sandwich. Another nod of his head as Lily relayed her dog’s story. His mouth remained set in a neutral line. “It’s good that you gave him a loving home.”
He fought back a grin. “One cat, two dogs, one bird, and two turtles.” Lian reached over to take a gulp of water, pausing to allow Lily take it in. He raised an eyebrow at the girl. “Do you want me to elaborate or end it there?”
