I'm thinking of joining the LBGT+Straight Alliance thing at my school, but I'm not sure what they do besides support LBGT people. I heard it has a lot to do with connecting with other non-straight people or allies, but what else? I also heard you do projects but I don't know what they are. Anyone else join a group like this and have a little insight about it? yum_puddi emotion_awesome

I think I remember hearing on gaia about one group that did volunteer work at a shelter that housed kids who got thrown out of their parents house for being in the lgbt community... Cant remember exactly though x.x
I want to join the one at my college, but I'm not sure if there still active... their website thing is down. And I am -NOT- going up and asking about it x_x

I just joined Spectrum at my school. They do community service about once a month and partner with other groups. At my school they partner with The Center for Reproductive Justice, The Women's Center, The Center for Social Justice, The Human Rights Campaign, The Young Democrats and sometimes the Secular Student Alliance. I'm in the last two too. I don't know about other schools, but at mine they do a lot and partner with a lot of different organizations.

From what i can tell the local high school ones spend their time trying to stay alive. Getting the word out that they exist, plan out what they want to do (and usually don't do), and find the funding to keep them going.
My college one is usually discussions on things like lgbt pop culture, new use of slang, etc. Unfortunatly, they attendance at it is really inconsistant.
Overall, if you wanna find out what it's about, go to a meeting, and if you don't like it, don't go back. gaia_kittenstar

They didn't have anything like that at my school before I graduated. I wish they did, I was depressed over my sexual orientation my senior year.
I didn't want to be gay, but now I accept and love myself for who I am
