Ssssoo… the Kizingo… told you I would—get—you there. A familiar voice spoke in its characteristically slurring fashion from above Ozark’s head, though not far enough to be distant. He estimated the strange serval was probably lounging on one of the lower branches. Probably watching with vague amusement as the blind lion stood, evidently—or at least to those who knew him—contemplating his position.

You seem… to be fitting in well-- Kioza stated observantly when his traveling companion didn’t answer right away. From experience he knew that the other was deciding where to look to properly address him. He cared too much for niceties that way. Kio found it strange considering no one had ever seemed to catch much to offer him the same generosity. Tongue curling with the effort of a drawn out yawn but continuing, though he felt no obligation to explain his reasoning in further detail, the small feline mused. --as a corpse keeper. That’s just like you. Anything to avoid conver—sate—tion.

Ever a polite creature, for what that was worth, Ozark simply listened to Kioza prattle. Allowing the stranger to trail on in some twisting trail of speech that would eventually lead somewhere. With his friend, though it seemed a peculiar thing to call the unnatural serval such a term, the stray had found that there was always a purpose for his voice. Sometimes, it just required knowing how to get to the point. Considering Ki'za didn’t make it a habit to speak without reason, when he had something to say, getting him to spit it out could be a task trying of even those with the most tireless patience.

I’m on duty. The mountainous figure stated shortly. Not to be brusque, but simply because he preferred to speak in the most concise way possible. While some may have found it offensive, Kioza had traveled with Ozark long enough to know exactly what it meant. Hurry up and spit it out. Yet despite this fact, he chose to ignore the request, rambling on with an unhinged grin as his head lolled on his shoulders disjointedly.

I hear gossip.. of a female, too. A little brown healer it’s said. Gotta admit, I never saw—that—coming... Trailing off into silence, he watched that ever smooth expression wrinkle at mention of the lioness. Funny, for a guy with a crush, Ozark sure didn’t look pleased. Perhaps Kioza had overstepped his boundaries, not that he cared. He tended not to care much about anything, really.

There’s nothing to that rumor. Saddled male offered tightly, mostly to quiet his companion’s curiosity, though he wasn’t even sure whether or not that was the truth. His mind recalling the ocean shore where they met. So she was brown? The color didn’t stand out much in his mind, not quite having much definition the way other colors did.

Kioza didn’t believe that for a second, his grin widening cheshirely at the fact that Ozark had chosen to defend himself. He didn’t want anyone thinking of them so loosely—for better or worse—that certainly implied some type of emotion resided there. Muted though it may have been. Dear Ozzy, you protest… too much.

Nothing to protest. His answer was slightly clipped this time with growing impatience. Despite his impairment, Kio knew better than to underestimate this lion in particular. If pushed too far he would bare his claws with frightening skill and though the serval held no fear of death, it wasn’t his desire to part on an unpleasant note. Ceasing his teasing with a shrug when he spoke again, I mean to say—good—that you know a friendly face. Here. Now.

Finally, Ozark could feel the conversation winding down to reach its true intent. Brow lifting ever just the slightest to indicate his curiosity. Those were strange words. Well, even more peculiar than usual for Kioza that was. The cadaver-like savanna cat had certainly never outwardly been the sort to be concerned about the well being of others. It was out of character that he should start now. You have something relevant to say…?

Astute. As always, Kioza drawled. Stretching languidly as the feline—his pelt the color of gangrenous flesh—stood upon the branch where he had previously been laying. Lightly dropping to the ground without a sound, yet still Ozark heard him. An ear twitching visibly, to angle towards the spot where he now stood. Such an interesting specimen he was. A crooked smile hanging off his jaw when he spoke again. As I had assured you I could.. I have brought you the Kizingo.

Unlike you, I have no place here. I feel these lands… twist—ing my soul. I come. To leave.
There was an emphatic way about those last four words, but then the mountain lion was accustomed to his traveling companion’s theatrical ways. A slow, thoughtful nod was all the acknowledgement Ki received at first as Ozark’s still eyes slid across their surroundings.

These lands speak. He agreed knowingly, causing the serval to arch a brow and chuckle, though the sound was brittle at best. I don’t care—much—for what they say.. you understand.

A peace keeping pride like the Kizingo was no place for him, of that much they could both be certain. Truthfully, Ozark was surprised the strange tree-dweller had lingered this long. Perhaps out of concern for him? He wondered. Ki'za had never been the empathetic sort. A gaze, softly illuminated by the surrounding darkness, finally sought the serval as he spoke more directly. Yes… didn’t expect you’d stay this long.

Nor I. Agreeing with humor in his tone, his small head canted backwards to gaze up at the enormous lion. In a land where the lions all had a “muse” it seemed fitting, if equal parts ironic, that Ozark was called by the mountains. Taking in that ever stoic expression his grin widened. You …of all. I would think. Would know. I stay no place against my will. Don’t worry so much.

I’m not. Ozark protested, though he knew it fell uselessly upon deaf ears. Sighing with the finality of it all, Stay safe.

To which the serval scoffed in dry amusement over his shoulder, turning to begin his journey towards the border of the Kizingo and the land beyond it which beckoned him with the normality of it. Despite his own peculiar ways, Kioza was accustomed to the rest of the world being expectedly predictable and preferred it that way. A peculiar animal in a peculiar land made said animal.. well.. normal. Heh.. you know I won’t.
