Caleb had curled up by the lake, his front paws dipped just barely under the cool waters, feeling the silken liquid tickle gently against his fur. He sighed in content, enjoying the sun as it gently caressed his cream fur.
He swished his tail back and forth, like a lazy clock during the middle of the day. Today had been such a quiet and peaceful day. He was rather pleased with it, even though he didn't get his daily dose of people watching. At least he got some time to himself.

Every Direction, or Evdy, as her childish, too-fast speech patterns often shortened it too, had managed to dodge her brother for now, and was happily flailing around the lake, chasing the fish and bouncing off currents and setting the weeds bubling. She was floating lazily (well, as lazy as she got, with tail flicking like a hummingbirds wings) when she saw something dip into the water at the edge of her lake. Purple eyes focusing on the far-away object, she squealed as she saw a cream colour, immediately assuming it was the return of the ducklings. Rocketing upwards, she overshot herself, head bursting out the water and splashing Caleb with ice-cold water from the depths. Her ears flicked back and her gills wobbled as she saw it wasn't ducklings.

Caleb shot up at the sudden disturbance. He yelped loudly as he was soaked with water, chilling him to the bone. Stumbling back, he saw an unusual creature standing there, talking on what sounded like a completely different language.
He blinked at her a few times, shivering slightly from the water. Caleb took in a breath, composing himself and using his paws to smooth out his hair. He wanted a mirror. He knew he looked like garbage now.
"Uh...what?" he asked oh so intelligently.
