USER Hair is soooo not right. Dammit Gaia. T< Thanks Snoof! Name: Katia Beedle
Age: 18-21 (still deciding)
Magic Affinity: Invisibility Fairly straightforward as powers come. Katia can become invisible and, in fact, render others invisible so long as they are touching her (think Violet from The Incredibles). Given User magic is limited and less than that of a Guardian, Katia is unable to hold her invisibility for very long (less than five to ten minutes? ) and the time is exponentially shortened if she is trying to cloak more than just herself. As well, cloaking more than just herself or overusing her power (forcing the time limit, etc) leaves her drained after her magic quits. Also, Katia can be rendered visible if splashed with liquids or covered in particulates (pollen, dust, flour, etc).
Appearance: Short and stocky is how Katia appears at glance when one does not take into consideration her head of frizzy red curls. Standing at a not-so-tall height of 4'11", this User is probably not what most people think of when they hear the word 'Scout' as with her height, her build is probably not the typical picture either. She's stocky with fair curves to her build - much more in the hip department than the bust - with a plump cheeked face and slight muffin top in pants that are a little too tight for comfort. Not to say she's overweight, but Katia's weight derives from muscle; the sort that's best seen in her arms and legs thanks to scouting, training, and general exercise/work.
When it comes to her face and head, Katia does stand out. She has that head of frizzy, barely tamed tight red curls which is most commonly seen drawn back in a tight poof of a bun at the back of her head. Bangs are prevalent on her brow, but kept short and are at times pinned back if need be. Her eyes are brown - the muddy 'eh they're brown so what' sort - and are close together on her face. Her skin is tanned but not heavily so, and Katia lacks any sort of freckling on her face though has a few blemishes on her personage (moles, scars, etc).
As for clothing, because she's a Scout, Katia prefers garments that are subdued and will hold out in various weathers. Light, breathable shirts/tunics are a must, as are sturdy leather boots, and pants would be denim (if that is available in Mistwick) or a similar-type cloth that is durable and tough but also comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Extras include heavier shirts for poor weather, a thick coat/jacket for colder climates, a vest, long underwear, and thick woolen socks. Katia doesn't wear jewelry and any "effect" such as that would be a dagger, gloves, a satchel, a sturdy belt, and a compass/clock for obvious reasons. Color-wise her clothing come in earthen tones from greys to browns to greens. White is also common but mostly as underwear and socks though she has the odd white shirt or two in her drawers. If one looks closely, one could easily see her garments are darned, sewn, stitched, and/or patched together in more than just a few places as well.
Personality: In a few words - Frugal (bordering on cheapskate), Conservative, Indecisive, Meticulous (about being prepared/planning), Early Riser, Patient (to a degree), Not easily grossed out, Overthinker, Adventurous, Holds Grudges, Cooperative (believes in safety in numbers/team effort)...

GUARDIAN Name: Hermes
Magic Affinity: Speed Ostriches have been clocked at a top speed of just over 60MPH unladen, but even with that in mind I think speed magic might be a boon to a coward such as Hermes in general (fleeing those he's upset or owes money to) and to his User when out on missions (clearing a stretch of area quickly). The downside to speed is it's only effective over flat (or reasonably flat - sand is doable and a few pebbles on the path aren't a bother) surfaces (not counting ice) and if Hermes overexerts himself he's prone to cramping, exhaustion, and whining about it.
Essence/Animal: Animal: Ostrich (Male variant of course) Essence: Coconut Palm Tree
Appearance: As an ostrich: 1. Black feathers on an actual ostrich are palm tree leaves; perhaps with some touches of coconut (?) 2. The white feathers are still feathers 3. Skin parts (neck and legs especially) could be ringed like the trunk of a palm tree (?)
As a human: 1. Beanpole physique (the sort who looks "gamey" under his clothes; lanky, long limbs, ribs showing, no musculature, etc.) This stems from ostriches being pretty from afar/in photos but being rather ugly up close and under their feathers. 2. Short black and white hair (talking like...black up top/front/sides with the lower back part (nape of the neck) being white to mimic an ostrich's wings) 3. ???
Clothing is really up in the air in my head. On one hand, I could see him in something hoity-toity given ostrich feathers and leather are used in high end fashion (hats, handbags, etc). On the other, I could also see him in something tropical like a coconut bra sarong to tie into the tropical nature of the coconut palm. Then there's also the Scout aspect to take into consideration, so I'd really just feel comfortable to leave that up to the artist fully.
As a humanoid (stage 3): 1. Same hairstyle as human except with leaves in place of black hair and feathers in place of white hair. 2. ??? 3. ???
Personality: In a few words - Charismatic, Charming, Flirtatious, Flamboyant, Perceptive, Lazy, Cowardly, Driven by incentive, Playboy, Spendthrift, Braggart, Prone to lying (the boastful sort), Lax...

Animal and Essence Animal Ostriches are large, flightless birds native to Africa. Topping in between 6' to 9' tall and weighing between 140 to 340 pounds, they are the largest living bird species in the world and lay the largest egg of any living bird. Despite their size, however, ostriches are more likely to flee than to fight but don't be fooled. They can deliver powerful forward-only kicks with their two-toed feet when cornered.
Like many birds, ostriches display obvious sexual dimorphism. Males are black and accented with white feathers, while females are tan or brown and accented with white feathers. They become sexually mature at two to four years of age (with females maturing a few months earlier than males) and males are known to have a harem of females ranging from two to seven birds. Despite having a harem and mating with all the females, males will pair bond with the dominant female. Courtship comes as a dance from the male in order to attract a mate. The breeding season starts in March or April and ends sometime in September.
Despite being endemic to Africa, ostriches are adaptable birds. They are so adaptable, in fact, that ostrich farms range from South Africa to Alaska where birds are raised for meat, hide, feathers, and occasionally racing. They tolerate a wide range of temperatures, able to regulate their body heat by simply opening and closing their wings to expose their bare legs. What's more, they can go without drinking for several days, using metabolic water and moisture from ingested plants to survive between times where liquid water is available. Despite their captive range, ostriches rarely go over 330ft high in the wild.
Ostriches are diurnal creatures but can be active on moonlit nights, active mostly during the early and late periods of the day. These birds have acute eyesight and hearing, allowing them to sense predators from far away. They reach top speeds of 60MPH, but can maintain a steady speed of 43MPH. This makes ostriches the fastest two-legged animal on the planet (and good Scout material). Contrary to popular belief, they do not bury their heads in sand, but instead either flee outright or invoke the use of camouflage by laying still with their heads and necks down. This makes them seem like a nondescript dark lump to predators. Essence The coconut palm is a tropical plant with many commercial, industrial, and domestic uses including being a staple in the day to day diets of many people. Coconut milk, water, and oil are but three uses of the fruit of the tree, while the leaves of the tree also prove useful for decoration. As well as these, coconut palms have religious and cultural significances in the regions it grows in.
When it comes to the coconut palm itself, the tree can grow roughly a hundred feet tall in full. Like the tree, the leaves of the palm are long and measure between 13 and 20ft long. They are smooth trunk trees with little in the way of branches - the fruit and leaves of the palm grow at the head of the plant and no where else.
When it comes to the coconut palm's fruit, much like the peanut, a coconut is not a nut, but is instead something known as a drupe. Drupe are fruit that have an outer fleshy part that surrounds a hard shell, which in turn encapsulates a seed. When fully grown a coconut weighs just over 3lbs and if planted in fertile soil plus properly taken care of, a coconut palm can yield 75 fruits a year.
Though a tropical plant, the origins of the coconut palm are up for debate. This is likely because of the nature of the drupes and where the palms grow once planted. The tropics mean beaches, and thus one is likely to find groves of palms growing on stretches of sandy paradises. Palm trees get to these locations by their fruit dropping into the ocean and being carried by the currents to other locations thanks to the fruit's buoyancy. So long as the weather is tropical, sunny, and the sandy soil is there, a coconut palm can grow.
Now to go back to the coconut palm's uses and significance. As stated before, the coconut drupe has many culinary uses. The oil of the nut is used for cooking, the flesh of the seed is edible outright, and there's probably no one alive who hasn't heard of the ever popular coconut milk - romanticized and traditionally sold as able to drink straight from the nut itself through a straw. Water, milk, meat, oil; dried, raw, dessicated, pureed, etc...The coconut drupe is a commercial commodity. But what of the rest? For starters, the husk has many uses. Ropes, mats, brushes, and compost are just a few uses for that bristly outer layer. The leaves can be made into brooms, baskets, and even roof thatching for houses. The shells of the seed can be used as fuel for a fire and can be used in the theater as a sound effect maker. Even the trunks and roots are used - bridges, timber, furniture, canoes, dyes, mouthwashes, and medicine are a small number of things that come from this plant. All in all? The coconut palm is extremely useful for sure!
