Zeta Clutch Gold Contest!

User Image
Theme: Amber

Open Thursday Sept 08 @ 3:00pm PST
Closed Wednesday Sept 19 @ 11:00pm PST

Greetings!

This is the contest for the massive gold that Benden's recently produced!

Clutch customs are very rare and Custom Golds are even rarer so I do not know when the opportunity will come again, so if you want a non RL-comm Clutch Custom, now's your chance to try!

Entry consists of a dragon profile. Only Candidates at Benden, however, will be considered - no Weyr transfers and the like. You will provide a complete, matched character and dragon form, feel free to write totally new Candidates or use your already existing characters. The gold must be written to match!

Rules
  • Only one entry per person.
  • To enter, fill out the provided form as best as you can.
  • The entry we feel is the best written and represents a player who is, or will be, active and open in the community will win.
  • DO NOT pre-write the Impression - you are describing a current Candidate and hatchling, not an already-rider. They will Impress at the upcoming Hatching.
  • DO NOT mention size in the form – we all know she’s big already.
  • Quality over quantity here! If you are using a pre-existing character you are welcome to review and edit their profile to upgrade it if you so choose, as the winning profiles will be marked based on what's posted here. By this I mean you can add new developments to their personality if you've RP'd them through character development, but revamping the character entirely requires re-approval, which will be done in this thread the new/updated profile will be considered the active one from this point on, regardless of whether the profile wins or not.
  • Post your entry in this thread
  • Only Benden Candidates are Elligible, but all players are welcome to try, be they new, lurkers, or regulars.
  • Make sure you take your time and make your entry the best it can be!
  • No staff can participate in this event
  • All players can sign up their contest characters to the Hatching Sign-Ups, as those who do not win will still be considered for the rest of the Hatching.

Hints and Pointers
Some helpful hints when writing up contest entries for this contest
  • When we judge, we look for quality of writing such as creativity and logical connections, does something make sense, etc etc - including grammar and spelling
  • We also look for individuality - what stands out about your character? What sorts of quirks do they have that make them different or special?
  • Are the grand happenings in their life, if any, reasonable and realistic? Exciting things can, and do happen, but are the repercussions and circumstances of such events believable?
  • Is the personality well rounded? Are they too perfect or too flawed?
  • How does the dragon relate to them? Dragons are supposed to complete and be completed by their rider, is that aspect fulfilled here?
  • Is it clear that just as much effort went into the dragon as the rider?
  • Other things we will be considering are: activity, reliability, responsibility, potential, etc etc.

Good Luck!

Character Name: Lilah
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: N/A
History:
Lilah is a perfectly ordinary Weyrbrat, with no idea who her parents are, and perfectly fine with that. Her life so far has been perfectly ordinary as well, though largely devoid of friends. Her personality doesn't exactly draw people to her. She's spent most of her life observing rather than participating, content to remind everyone of the not-so-bright side of life when they bother to listen, or if they get stuck with her during chores - especially then. If you can hurt yourself doing a particular chore, Lilah probably has by now, and if she hasn't, it's only a matter of time. If you can mess it up, she definitely has in some way or another, and she'll probably tell you all about it. Hey, maybe you won't make the same mistake. But then again, maybe you will.

Description:
Lilah is relatively short, about 5'2", and about as plump as a busy candidate can reasonably be. She has blue eyes and shoulder-length medium-brown hair, and a round face that could be pleasant if she actually decided to smile.

Personality:
Lilah's one of those people who walks around with their own personal raincloud to keep them company, and not much else. She is a complete and total pessimist who spends most of her time brooding over what can go wrong where - and it will go wrong, of that she is absolutely sure. The worst is always a possiblity, and she's not going to ignore that; quite the opposite, she is hyper-aware of the potential for failure, especially her own. She goes into everything she does with the thought that she's not going to succeed, or at the very best scrape by. Over time, it's turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy: there's no point in trying hard if you're just going to fail anyway, so she doesn't, and consequently fails. She is, in fact, quite convinced that she will never Impress a dragon, and is probably more likely to get mauled and die. It does happen, after all, and it would be just her luck to be the one it happens to sometime. Still, provided she continues to survive Hatchings, she'll be a Candidate until she's too old to be one - what else could she do? She certainly couldn't take up a craft!

A peculiar result of her pessimism, Lilah is nearly unshakable. She's spent so much time thinking about how things can go wrong and believing they will that when they do, she's ready for it! She accepts bad situations quite calmly and without fear. She's also completely unconcerned with appearances or with what other people think of her...since they probably don't like her, and trying to change that is, of course, pointless. She might be a failure, but at least she's an independent one. On the rare occasion that someone does like her, Lilah is a loyal friend, not that it will spare them any of her pessimism. If anything, they might be subject to more of it, since she actively cares about what happens to them. Of course, one of these days they'll probably find someone else to be friends with and she'll get left behind, but until then, she's got their back.

Lilah doesn't do a lot of small talk, and when she does pipe up, it's often to share her bleak outlook on whatever the current situation or subject is. It's not a conscious effort to bring people down, she just feels that they should be informed. Then they won't be surprised when things go south, and if they are, she can pull out the 'I told you so.' Aside from being right, one of the few things that makes her happy is food. It's hard for eating to go wrong, after all, unless you're a complete idiot and you choke, or the food's bad and you get sick. Still, food is almost always a good thing!

When it comes to energy level, she's below average, mostly by choice. She could keep up with a faster pace if she really needed to, but otherwise, her 'why bother?' attitude keeps her slow and steady instead. She has endurance in spades, however, and can weather almost anything the world throws at her (not that she won't complain about it). In her view, she doesn't have low self-esteem - she is, in fact, perfectly content with herself the way she is. It takes all kinds, and she accepts that her particular 'kind' is the pessimist/realist; you won't ever find her wishing she was anyone different.

Other: I've been pretty off-and-on lately, between work and an upcoming move, but the crazy should be clearing up soon.

Dragon Name: Glaesth (changed to fit her amber theme)
Personality:
Glaesth is a klutz on the ground. She will trip over her own feet (or nothing at all), knock people or things over with her tail or wings, or just try to fit somewhere she can't and get stuck. In a green or blue or even brown, this might be considered cute, if an occasional nuisance, but in a gold? Maybe as a bumbling hatchling, but unfortunately, she's not going to grow out of it. There is just something slightly off about her coordination that she can't seem to fix, and she is absolutely mortified by it. She is all too aware of what a Queen is supposed to be, what Benden's new Queen is supposed to be, and that she falls short - sometimes literally. Only when she's old enough to fly will she prove that she isn't all trips and falls; once in the air, she makes up for her complete lack of grace on the ground, and so it's on the wing that she will finally be comfortable with herself.

Put her back on the ground, though, and she's immediately afraid of her next accident and who might see it, to the point where she will take to 'freezing' in public situations, picking a spot and not moving from it to avoid any mishaps. Glaesth is terrified of failure and criticism. How could she possibly live up to everything that's expected of her? What if she doesn't? The result is a dragon who often tries so hard that she will fail to notice an important factor and trip herself up. She wants desperately to be what people want her to be: that shining, wise, beloved Queen who epitomizes all the best traits of dragonkind, that perfect stereotype that doesn't truly exist. Even she knows it's impossible, but it's what they want, and she can make herself miserable trying to close the gap.

Made nervous by her clumsiness, Glaesth has difficulty relaxing in the company of others, be they human or dragon, and worries that they're judging her negatively. If someone voices such thoughts, her reaction is not to become angry, but to apologize; she understands the disappointment, after all, because she feels it herself. When anyone else makes a mistake, she's very forgiving, as well as relieved that she's not the only one. She's a kind Queen at heart, if an anxious one, and treats everyone with equal deference.

Flights are the among the only times Glaesth will be comfortable being the center of attention (since, of course, they take place in the air), and she'll relish it accordingly. While she may have favorites, be they hers or her rider's, which she'll be especially teasing with, the best of the day will always win.

Why Me!?
Lilah doesn't expect anything out of herself, nor does she care what other people expect out of her; when she messes up, she is completely unphased. Similarly, she won't expect anything spectacular out of Glaesth, and won't be disappointed in her for not living up to expectations she doesn't have - nor will she pressure her to be better. The gold faces enough pressure from herself and outside sources to need it from her rider; instead, what she needs is a calm and steady friend to accept her and help her pick herself up, to not worry so much when something goes wrong. Lilah will be able to tell her to suck it up, to keep going instead of dwelling on a mistake longer than necessary, and to help her be prepared for when things do go wrong.

In exchange, Glaesth will encourage Lilah to try, to take pride in her inner strength and use it, and learn that she has some degree of choice in the outcome of her endeavors. While it's okay to make mistakes, there's nothing that says they have to make them...but at least if they do, they won't judge each other for it. Though the young woman is hardly an obvious choice for a goldrider, her level head and endurance in times of trial will serve the pair well, as will her complete lack of care about what other people think of her.

Name: Kindra

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Craft/Rank: Candidate

History: Kindra is the middle daughter to one of Benden Weyr's Mid sized tithing Holds, her family (mostly her father) likes to boast that their bloodline has produced many good and great Dragonriders from their Hold, who in return allowed their children to be fostered back into the Hold. However none of this is recorded officially anywhere and is most likely just an ego boosting case of family 'lore' with probably only a trace or truth since, in Kindra's knowledge, none of their actual bloodline ride a Dragon at the moment in current history.

Kindra, is the middle child of her parent's three offspring but is their only daughter, her elder brother who is 23 turns old, is being trained to replace their father in time and her younger brother is less than a turn old. She resents her baby brother a little because until her mother got pregnant, Kindra was spoiled rotten, anything she wanted, she got. Her mother however had a very difficult pregnancy and was very ill, forced to her bed for the majority of her pregnancy. This meant that Kindra had to do her mother's share of running the Hold and managing the women and other tasks that she never knew her mother did. Her mother only barely survived the birth and is still physically weakened, Kindra's father decided that the time had come for her to marry into another bloodline, another strong one, loyal to their Beholden Weyr.

Time passed and Kindra rejected all suitors, all but one who, despite being a good match on the surface, didn't just 'give in' to Kindra's demands. Seemingly Kindra admired this in the young man and agreed to several meetings. Unfortunately for Kindra, and unknown to her family (because she would never admit it) The young man wasn't as nice as he appeared, one evening he had slipped into Kindra's bedroom and demanded that he spent the night in her bed. Kindra flatly refused and even went so far as to attempt to drag him out of her bedroom, The young man turned and hit her, not a flat open handed slap to calm a woman, but as if she was a man and they were fighting, clutching her already swelling eye she fled to her private bathroom and locked the door. In shock, since she had never been so much as spanked before in her life, Kindra spent the rest of the night in there, caught between wanting to break down in tears and rage at the fact this man had dared to do this in her own home. Morning came and she went ahead and told her mother. After that the young man was not seen again at the Hold, and her father stopped bringing in suitors for her.

A sevenday after the incident, after news of the Clutch on the Sands came with a Brownrider, a Searchrider. Kindra had greeted the man in place of her mother, who was taken to her bed once more, the Brown dragon had turned his head towards her, holding her gaze with his beautiful gently whirling eyes. The Brown's rider murmured to her father out of her hearing and at that her father beamed as if he had been given a large bag of Marks. Later that day her father had told her that the Brown dragon had told his rider, who in turn told her father, that she, Kindra had the potential and without hesitation, Kindra nodded and fled to her rooms to pack, by evening she was ready and away, glad to be away from the Hold and the awkwardness between her and her mother after the incident with the young man, the result of which still showed on her face. Arriving at the weyr and given a little time to settle in, Kindra is wondering whether she has made a mistake in being too hasty, her natural charm and her assumption that she would be respected, wasn't working as well as she was used to, the other candidates treating her no better than she would have done with a servant at the Hold.

Description: Kindra is fairly dark skinned, her mother being very dark skinned herself. Her eyes are a deep, rich Hazel with a slight fleck of blue in her right eye and, along with long dark eyelashes, are her prettiest feature. Her hair is long and black like her mother's and she likes to keep it in a neat, long braid that reaches her hip. At about 5ft 6" Kindra is far from petite and delicate, her mother was a larger woman before the birth of Kindra's brother and her father is by no means a small man, Kindra is built a little on the larger side, though she isn't fat, she is never going to be a waif, no matter how hard she tried, if she wanted to try anyway. She has brought many fine dresses from her home and she likes to look good, taking great care with her appearance no matter what her chore happens to be among the candidates.

Personality: Kindra is the kind of girl that knows what she wants and has several different ways of attempting to get it. One of her first tactics is to use her charm and manners, followed by unashamed flirting (with the men) or copious flattery of women, often giving the impression of a weak girl in need of looking after, though she is far from being unable to do so for herself. She also isnt afraid of flat out asking for what she wants either. Kindra likes men, she likes to be fawned on and pampered but on HER terms. If she thinks she is getting too fond of one particular beau, she'll dump him and move on to another. However she quite aware that, although she knows she is pretty, she does know Beauty alone won't get you very far, Kindra has a quick mind and is able to adapt quickly, she has a good sense of self preservation and will NEVER (openly) go after another girl's beau.

Kindra, along with a fairly pretty face, is rather smart, she does well at lessons and could take notes for others, if they thought she was more than just vain and arrogant. Because of the way she acts around others not many want to be a real friend since she likes to surround herself with admirers, if someone goes against her she can be quite nasty and spiteful, this leads to her having mostly fairweather friends, who like being associated with the new, pretty girl but wouldn't go out of their way to help if she were in trouble.

To your face Kindra is a pleasant and well mannered young woman but if she has reason to dislike you then behind your back there may be rumors and snide comments, for example "Did you see her take that extra portion? she's getting pretty plump, do you think she's been sleeping around?" or something like, "i heard he has been seeing other girls behind your back, someone told me they saw him kissing your best friend near the hatching grounds" and other such examples, subtle things to make you doubt yourself and others intentions.

Despite this seemingly happy arrangement Kindra is desperately lonely, she's never had a decent friend, only servants and drudges to wait on her hand and foot, she longs for a companion, be it a female friend or a long term relationship but she just cant help pushing the good people in her life, away when they get too close to her and despite having a string of young men on her arm, she has never taken that final step with them and for the time being is completely content with that.

Other:

Dragon Name: Balith

Personality: Balith is a very careful Dragon and, despite being a Gold, she finds it uncomfortable to have so much attention and tends to withdraw away from the spotlight. Balith almost never acts without carefully thinking it through and considering the possibly consequences of her actions, much the the chargrin of Hers. Balith finds, being as big as she is, that she is very aware of those around her. She is careful not to make sudden movements that might bump, disturb or upset people or other Dragons. Balith isn't given much to physical contact as a way of communicating, unless it is Hers doing the touching or Balith herself wants comfort for any particular reason and she will go to Hers for it.

Balith likes to plan, "what exactly are we going to do today? How will we go about this that we plan to do" those kinds of things run through her head when she rises in the morning. She easily adapts to stressful situations since she will stop and consider the options and possible reactions to a particular course of action. When thrown into chaos Balith will come out of it with a clear head and if she can get Hers to remember for her, a knowledge of how such chaos can be avoided in the first place.

When the time comes for Balith to Rise she will be very aware of who Hers prefers but she won't be caught that easily even caught up in Flight she will still be very observant of exactly which Dragons are getting too close. If any dare to touch her before she is ready she will lash out. However, once the Flight is over she will be contrite and want to comfort those she hurt, if she remembers hurting them. After a flight she will often seek Hers for comfort, unless it is a very familiar Dragon that has caught her.

Why Me!? Balith and Kindra seem totally opposite and that's what attracted Balith, in Kindra she will find the ability to come out of her shell and get used to the attention being a Gold commands. In return she will bring Kindra the balance in her behaviour, reigning her back and forcing Hers to think about her actions first. Balith sometimes is baffled how easily Hers can hurt another and this upsets Blaith but she also understands the need to command, and Kindra will help her become better at that. While Kindra has high expectaions of herself and others around her, Balith will simply accept others for who they are though she is good at pointing out certain talents to Kindra, to better use their natural commanding instincts with fellow Dragons and riders.

Character Name: Analyssa "Lyssa"
Age: 18
Gender: female
Sexual Orientation: straight as a board
Craft/Rank: Cotholder/Candidate
History: Analyssa is the youngest of five children born to Haderson and Nelettia. She was is the only daughter but instead of being petted upon and made much of, she worked just as hard as her brothers, looking up especially to Ja'syn before he Impressed. She helped around the cot just like the others, cleaning & mending, learning to cook but also learning how to plow, trade and other tedious tasks. Very young when a Harper first came to the Cot, she received most of her learning from her mother and brothers. Analyssa had a fairly uneventful life filled with her brothers learning a craft or going off to be married.

She was seven when she was sitting in the Stands when Ja'syn Impressed to an angry Brynth. Fascinated, she kept a single goal in her small mind. To somehow get to Benden and be with her brother, hopefully to Impress as well. At first, whenever the Search dragons came, they would ignore her no matter how much she stood to the front of the group. Finally, about two turns ago, one of the Greens took an interest in her and brought her to Benden. She failed to Impress in the clutch that had the crimson but will stand again and again until she ages out.

During the events of the Time Lost and the business with the Mystweed, Analyssa did her best to be present and ever helpful to riders, workers and anyone who would grab her up. During that time, she learned a little about dragons, their physiology and some healing as well. As such, when chores are handed out, she does her best to get assigned to the healers or beast crafters. She has no aversion to blood, guts or gore so chopping meat or taking dirty linens and clothes to the laundry doesn't bother her much.

Description: Analyssa is average for a girl, at least in looks though she is a little tall. Not one of those delicate prissy girls nor is she a hard lump. She has the same dark chestnut color hair as her brother that goes down just past her shoulders which she keeps in a bun or ponytail. Her eyes are a very dark expressive brown. They are framed by rather thin lashes and high arched eyebrows. Her face is round with a short nose that tips down slightly. Her lips are also a little thin but she is always smiling so it makes up for it. Around 5'8", 130lbs, she is thankful that she has a handful of chest to show off and long legs which she enjoys to show off by swimming. Classic tanned beige, she can burn if she stays out too long but then peels and darkens right away. Her favorite colors are any cool tones. Blues, greens and purples but secretly enjoys light reds and pinks as well. Before coming to Benden, she worn wraps and slitted skirts with shorts underneath. Now, she goes about in either short sleeved tunics and simple leather pants or her very simple dresses depending on the task of the day.

Personality: As carefree as Ja'syn is worrisome. As lighthearted as he is a stick in the mud. Analyssa may look very much like her older brother and love him to death, she is his complete opposite in outside personality. Analyssa enjoys the company of others and having a good time. She has no problems marching up, introducing herself and then walking away with a new friend. She loves to laugh and joke, teasing her brother and his dragon when she has free time. As such, if she does age out and decided to, she would have no problems fitting in with the healers or beast crafters group. Those who know her in passing, remark that she seems to keep a pleasant manner no matter what the situation. She can be open and honest, knowing how to temper that honesty with a little more reserve and style. Many times, she has been asked to go calm down some hysterical person or go soothe this cranky that person.

Which does not always sit well with her. Friendly though she may be, Analyssa refuses to let herself be walked upon. And when she feels like she is being taken advantage, she will not hesitate to be rude and abrupt. Those who have been on the receiving end of one of these displaces can attest that her honesty can take on a much more mean spirited and catty nature. One minute she is warm and the next cold, hard and unforgiving. This is where is much like her brother as she has no patience for stupidity, those ridiculous Atyps or those who do not follow traditional ways. Then she is all for tossing them all to the New Weyrs or taking them Between. Analyssa believes as her brother does that Thread will return and the only way to survive is to stay true to the Ways that have worked so well. Once she has made her mind up or has her first Impression of someone, it is hard to change her opinions. Because of this, Analyssa also does not like to apologize and will sidestep or "forget" the issue if she was in the wrong. But once moving past that, she will act as if nothing has ever happened and all is right between both parties.

And since being at Benden for a couple of Turns and being allowed to assist in some important tasks (or what she considered important), Analyssa has the tendency to get bossy attitude especially from those who come from outside of Benden's area and who may be younger than her. In reality, these tasks, while important, were the same ones everyone else had to take do; so those who came after either suffer through her remarks or in extreme cases might mention her attitude. Then it is up to those in charge to give her a stern talk or look and put her back in her place.

Virtues: Friendly, polite, helpful, honest
Vices: Stubborn, moody, bossy, narrow-minded
Other: Analyssa knows how to work and doesn't mind working. She has an excellent memory for random facts and numbers which may come in handy later. Though not actually from Benden Hold, she considers herself to be from Benden and can have somewhat of an elitist view. Analyssa considers Atype dragons a waste of time and resources to those around them and probably won't have anything to do with the Red Rider. (Crimson is too good for that creature).

Dragon Name: Ymorath
Personality: Ymorath woke up this morning and yes her hide was gold! This lovely lady understands what the color of her hide means and it is time to get down to business. She is the new to Benden and it is her job to keep everyone busy and make sure that their honor is in tact while at it. You there! Why are you leaning against that pole when you should be checking for rough spots. And you! When is the last time someone checked those glows?

Ymorath loves order and she loves being in charge. As a weyrling, she may try to push her will onto others around her and that is good for a gold right? Not when it means bullying and stepping on someone toes (sometimes literally) until she has her way. And if they didn't move fast enough, oh well. Next time they will know better. While she is growing, she will demand a schedule and is pleased that one has pretty much been provided for her. It is time to eat when the sun is high or time to bath when the candle is half burned. And if something does not happen, when it is time to happen or her schedule is thrown off, it will take that strong personality to keep Ymorath's tail from staying bent out of shape. At lessons, she will take them and the Weyrling Master very seriously; making sure that if she doesn't remember them that her rider will. After all, if it is being told or taught, it must be something important. This intense focus and concentration will serve her well as she gets older and matures.

When she does get older, it will be up to her rider to keep Ymorath's gold personality in check. It is one thing to be a leader and another to be a bully. Some of those bullying traits will carry over but now Ymorath knows how to ask without asking and demand without demanding. She will still want to know what is going on and make sure that those around her are not idle. For to be idle and lazy is to look bad upon Benden. And more than anything, Ymorath understands that the first Impression is the most important of all. Her wing will be the most disciplined, the strongest and the surest in the air. Any dragon who can not meet her standards are free to go to another less perfect wing. As a gold, Ymorath will treat the blues, greens, and browns with an air of privilege that she is addressing them on this day. To other golds and bronzes, she will treat them as equals. And speaking of perfection, there is a trundlebug in her hide that will not go away. Those silly off color dragons. How dare they try to act as if they are just as good as any other dragon, especially those Crimsons! Who do they think they are laying eggs and trying to flame. Ymorath finds Atypical dragons practically scandalous and just above whers in her opinion. She supposes they are dragons and as long as they stay out of her sight and do not harass her, maybe they can stay. Or maybe they can leave and make room for better, stronger, and more able bodied, high flying dragons.

As for flying and Flights, what greater honor is there than to fly a queen? She will take to this task as she does everything else with intensity and drive. There is no nonsense loops and swirls for her! It is all about who is the fastest and strongest and most cunning. In this way, she may over rider what her rider wants and go to straight to the heart of the matter. That she, Ymorath, of Benden, is the best and only deserves the best.

Why Me!? You know how they say birds of a feather, flock together? While Ymorath and Lyssa are not exactly two peas in a pod, they think enough alike that when both of them are on a mission, Benden and the rest of Pern better watch out!

While Ymorath is serious and hardworking, Analyssa is just as lighthearted and carefree. She knows when it is time to work, will do the best that she can and give 110% but when the task is over, it is over. Ymorath will beat a dead herd beast into the ground until she is satisfied that it is her way. In this, Lyssa will keep Ymorath from obsessing over little details and worries, they have enough time to address those things later. And just because they don't angst over them now, doesn't mean they aren't important for later and Lyssa will make sure she doesn't forget. And in that compromise, Ymorath will make sure that Lyssa sees the whole picture and makes sure that they have a good, organized grasp of what is going on, what needs to be going on and what should have been going on. When Ymorath may start to bully, Lyssa will sooth things over with well placed words and remind her dragon that honey not vinegar brings in the biting bugs.

But neither Lyssa nor Ymorath will tolerate being walked over or taken advantage; now as junior gold riders, they have weight and responsibility on their shoulders. Either go with the flow or get out the way, might become a manta for these two. It is up to them to help spread the good word that is Benden and to make sure that others understand that the Traditions and the Rules of the Weyr have always steered them through tried and true times. And when Thread starts to fall again, following these Ways will keep Benden's own safe and sound until the end of Fall. When it comes time for Ymorath's mating Flight, Lyssa agrees that only the strongest and cunning will do for her beloved. She can only hope that the rider is attached to the dragon who flies Ymorath is one that she can appreciate as well.

Character Name: Saffra

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Craft/Rank: None/Candidate

History: Saffra is – in her own words – not anyone special. She was born the eldest child of a large family of cotholders, and from an early age was pushed into taking responsibilities inside their home, especially in relation to her younger siblings. She was very strongly taught that the family’s needs took precedence over any individual’s, something that was pressed into her when she made demands of her own – taking time for personal adornment or to waste food on unnecessary puppies was seen as a waste of resources and time (that little incident is one of the few tantrums she ever threw as a child, and did little good). In retrospect, she realises that the cothold was not in good shape for quite a long time, not helped by the huge growth of her family, and is possibly only just pulling out of it’s difficulties now. She doesn’t blame her parents for putting an extra burden on a child who’d otherwise be a useless mouth – on the contrary, she’s grateful to them for giving her as loving and normal a childhood as was possible in the circumstances. She never wanted for anything physically, and she never lacked for affection.

Saffra is much closer to her maternal aunt, a spinster who ran the household with a rod of iron, then most of the rest of her family. The older woman was a constant source of exciting stories about the rest of Pern from a youth spent on trading caravans, which Saffra lapped up – she doesn’t entirely believe most of them, especially the one about the three-headed wherry, but still. Until recently, when it was replaced with the idea of dragonflight, Saffra’s secret desire was to see the rest of Pern – not that she could have imagined leaving her family in the lurch.

The young woman was searched during a gather she was attending with her family – her father, in possession of some marks at last, wanted to look into replacing their stud bull who had finally given up the ghost the previous winter. She had wandered off and ended up dancing (for pretty much the first time in her life) with a handsome blue rider who suggested that she was definitely search material – and, better, there was a clutch on the sands. After a brief discussion with her father about whether she could go, or if they needed her too much, Saffra accepted willingly.

Description: A young woman of average height who honestly looks like a strong breeze would snap her like a twig. She has a long face with a weak jaw, small nose, and large blue eyes (often with great big bags underneath them) that look like they're going to swallow the rest of her features if not checked. Her brown hair is cut short in a mannish and practical style, and more often then not is a curly bird's nest, due to her tendency to run her hands through it when she's thinking. Her clothes are usually a mismatched jumble of whatever is clean and fits approximately right, and anyone with a fashion sense would generally wince to look at her.

Personality: Saffra has, essentially, almost no backbone – it’s incredibly hard for her to say no to any reasonable-ish demand, and even unreasonable ones, because saying ‘no’ is what mean people do. In her head, the sort of person who says no is unhelpful and unkind, and no one will like them. You ask her for anything – time, support, friendship – and she’ll almost inevitably say yes, even if it contradicts her own desires. She worries about everyone and everything, and as a result the young woman is almost always stressed and short on sleep. It’s not uncommon to find her drinking klah like someone has announced that it’ll be banned tomorrow or with big bags under her eyes.

She’s fairly sociable, and while she isn’t the loudest voice in the crowd or generally the centre of attention, she is definitely in the crowd and probably chattering away quite happily and making plans to do something nice for someone because haven’t they been having a tough time lately and they deserve something nice. She’s a shameless gossip, but generally not in a malicious way - on the contrary, she’d be surprised if such a conversation did take a turn for the malicious and not ‘what can we do about this, isn’t it dreadful?’ and probably avoid the person in future if at all possible.

Saffra is pretty intelligent, and takes well to bookwork and learning – she ran the rudimentary accounts of the cothold for the past two turns or so – and loves to learn new things. She is rarely happier then when buried in a pile of records, which are soothing and uncomplicated – it is easy to see when there’s a problem, and even easier to work out why. Fixing it might be more difficult, but at least you know why it’s there. Learning is, in short, wonderful – give her information about laws and trade agreements and supplies, and she’ll quickly internalise them and the reasons behind them, and just as quickly point out flaws and ways things could be fixed. There is nothing she likes better then getting her teeth into a problem that can be logically worked out and solved, and talking it over with someone and bouncing ideas back and forth will make her even happier. They generally don’t involve people or an emotional component, and are thus much easier to deal with and not get stressed about – applying the solution might be entirely another matter.

Growing up in relative poverty means that Saffra has been taught to pinch every mark – you don’t spend on fripperies, you don’t spend on anything you don’t need and you always come in on budget, no matter what. In fact, it’s better if you come in under budget – then you can store away money for the bad times, because there will be bad times.

Generally speaking, she is chirpy and happy – if she’s upset, the first indication is that she’s burst into tears and needs a little sit down, and that’s a fairly unusual occurrence. Otherwise, she’ll generally internalise the things that upset her and worry over them until (if irresolvable) they stress her out enough for tears or she can work out a way to resolve them. It’s usually quite a shock when she goes from ‘isn’t everything wonderful’ to ‘whhhhhhhyyyy’ and bouts of messy tears in about ten face-crumpling seconds flat over something very, very small – whatever it is has probably been building up for several days, if not sevendays, but the actual tipping point is generally fairly fast and tends to be more of a case of ‘the straw that breaks the ox’s back’ then anything else.

Other: She professes a deep distaste for things like ribbons and lace and other girly fripperies, but secretly adores them. If she wouldn’t feel guilty about wasting marks on them, she’d probably deck herself out in different coloured ribbons for every day of the sevenday.

Dragon Name: Sarth

Personality: Sarth is dominating – there’s no other word for it. She looms big both physically and mentally, and she knows it. If she wants something, she expects it to come to her now, and no objections – or delay. She’s not a patient creature, and waiting for things to come in their right time is dull. She always has something new to do in mind, and is usually self-occupied – even when apparently peacefully lying in the sun, she’ll be turning new things over in her head and occasionally putting her rider to the question about something she’s thought about.

While she’ll take the opportunity to push others – especially her rider – around into doing things she deems fit, she’ll definitely take exception to anyone attempting to do the same to her or those she considers as belonging to her. She doesn’t see any contradiction in this, and would take umbrage to her own behaviour being pointed out. In time, she’ll learn a little subtlety, but while she is young it will be more her bulk she’ll use to get her way. Her motives can usually be summed up into ‘things that will make me happy’ and ‘things that will make my rider happy’, with an occasional foray into ‘things that need to be stopped because they are making me angry’.

Sarth has a keen mind, and will seek out dragons who can provide her with interesting information and conversation again and again, to the point of being a nuisance. Far from her usual methods, she will defer to someone who can provide her with new knowledge and spend a long time questioning them on the what and the why and the how. This is probably the closest she comes to reflecting Saffra’s usual cheery attitude, and will drive her into a lot more sociability then she will normally muster. In contrast, dragons who she decides are uninteresting or not very intelligent will be very barely tolerated by her – some of the less clever dragons might be more appreciated if they’re entertaining, but they’ll never be exactly sought out.

When she’s young and growing fast, she will be horrendously clumsy, never quite catching up with how her body should move – tripping over her own feet or managing to tread on her own wings (or other dragon’s) will be an almost hourly occurrence. As she finally attains the proper proportions and her full growth, she should manage to finally work out where everything goes and how to move, attaining a degree of elegance.

Why Me!? Sarth is the iron fist to Saffra’s velvet glove. In time, and possibly after a slightly rocky start, both should learn to moderate the other and form an effective whole. Over time, Sarth should be able to nudge Saffra into having more of a backbone and being able to stand up for herself – and in the meantime, she can say ‘no’ for her. Meanwhile, Saffra can provide the gold with a much needed sense of clemency and kindness, tempering her impatience and domineering ways. Both of them will adore chewing over problems and information with the other, and working out solutions will be dreadfully exciting for both of them.

Character Name: Emkin
Age: 19 Turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hereto
Craft/Rank: weavercraft journeywoman, candidate
History:
Emkin was born was in Lemos hold to two bakers. She had a relatively simple childhood, being her parent's only child until she turned seven, when her brother was born. Being seven, she was old enough to help her mother with caring for her new brother, as well as helping out with more of the chores around their living space. Three Turns later, when she was ten, her sister was born. Emkin never minded being the oldest of three children. She liked the feeling of trust her mother placed in her, and the feeling of maturity that glowed inside her, a feeling that grew as she got older. Her maturity was never used to make others feel inferior to her. She was always willing to babysit her siblings for an afternoon whenever her mother asked her to, which was quite often. Many hours were spent coming up with new games or stories to entertain her brother and sister.

Her parents felt a slight pang of disappointment when Emkin decided to apprentice as a weaver. Nevertheless, they respected her choice and gave their blessing, wishing her well with her new life. Little did Emkin know that her life would be turned topsy-turvy one summer day; a Turn after she had achieved journeywomen status. A small group of Journeymen and women were sitting outside on a grassy knoll, working at their looms and chatting to each other, as it was a lovely day to do so. A green dragon appeared from Between in the air above the hold, and landed lightly in the courtyard. When everyone got excited about the appearance, Emkin kept her cool and remained working. She did think it odd the dragon kept peering over the wall at them. The rider came out of the courtyard, and approached Emkin’s group. He looked at each one in turn before saying, “One of you has potential.”

After a short talk with her parents, she was whisked off by the rider and taken to Benden Weyr. They were so proud of their oldest daughter for having been chosen to Stand for Benden. Glowing with pride, they heaped their love and well wishes on her before she left with the rider for her new home. Emkin quickly settled into the Weyr. Shortly after her arrival, she attracted the romantic attentions of an older male werybrat. In the short time they have been together, their relationship blossomed. Emkin didn’t feel that she was much more than a passing Candidate, someone to be put on the Sands when the eggs hatched. Therefore, she devoted herself to her weaving. Her time was spent learning with the Weyr’s weavers or practicing in her room. She was still expected to perform some of the chores that were assigned to Candidates.
Description:
Emkin stands just under 5’2”. She has mid-back length, glossy brown hair. Her skin is olive tone, and her eyes are pale blue. She has delicate fingers that are long and quick; allowing her to create intricate and detailed designs easily. Also, Emkin is ambidextrous.

She has almost broad shoulders that well carry her amble bust. Emkin is curvy around her hips as she carries a few extra pounds there. When she is working on her weaving, she wears close fitting clothes. This is to avoid catching anywhere on the loom. During her off time she wears looser shirts and flowing skirts.
Personality:
Emkin is what some might consider a slob when it comes to her personal belongings, which can be found scattered around her room haphazardly. Her chronic disorganization leaves her living quarters in a state of constant disarray, as piles of clothes, clean and dirty, litter the floor. When she does need something, Emkin frequently has trouble locating what she is looking for. Where is her sock? Her shoe? The one, and only, exception to her untidiness is the space where she keeps her weaving work. At all times it is immaculately tidy and neat. All of her weaving implements have their own place, and that is where Emkin returns them when she is done using them. Highly critical of her own weaving, she often spends too much time trying to get every section to fit her standard of perfection. Even then, however, it will still not be good enough for her.

More often than not, the young woman is quite cooperative, and usually responds positively to requests. She doesn't like to say no when someone asks a favor of her, or has a problem. Emkin is always equable when this happens. Despite her willingness to help others, she is habitually uncommunicative. However, her taciturn nature makes her an excellent listener and confidant. Any of her peers may come to her as she has a friendly ear and is not judgmental or gossipy. Feedback on anything, however, is usually very difficult to draw out from her, as Emkin is hesitant to offer her opinions on even the most simple of matters.

There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home. This statement fits Emkin like a glove fits a hand. Deep down she is a true homebody. The majority of her time is spent on weaving. If she never had to leave the safety of her quarters, that would be perfectly suitable to her. That being an impossibility in Weyr life, she goes about her tasks as quickly as possible. Emkin is an incredibly fussy eater. There is absolutely no way that she will ever eat fish, any fish. She feels that she would rather go hungry for a night than eat slimy, smelly, disgusting fish. While she views her boyfriend as weird for eating it, she is absolutely devoted to him. It hasn't occurred to her to leave him, even if problems do arise.
Other:

Dragon Name: Ashath
Personality:
Ashath knows exactly what her color makes her; a Queen. She has the regal bearing of any queen, and while she carries herself with dignity, this queen is not vain. She does not feel the need to constantly rub her rank in anyone's face. When it's time let her tail down, so to speak, her effervescent is brought out in its full glory. This is a dragon who knows how to have a lively and fun time. Ashath is also a very inquisitive dragon. She wants to know the purpose behind this or that. Who is in the next weyr over? When is it time to eat? What does this do? She is always poking her nose into everything. When she does finally run out of questions, it won't stop her endless chatter. Silence is golden, but Ashath feels that there is no silence as golden as herself. Her rider will not be the only one subjected to her garrulous nature.

When it comes to working with others, Ashath loves it. The size of the group she works with does not matter to her. She will cooperate willingly with anyone in order to get the job done. However, Ashath feels that the task at hand will be completed more quickly if it is done her way. You go there, that gets placed there. Ashath realizes that her fellow dragons do not share her organizational skills, which would be classified as OCD. She'll politely, but firmly, tell anyone where and how they erred. Including Hers. When it comes to Flights, this queen firmly believes in equal love opportunities. Ashath is not shy, and will give flirty encouragement to any dragon that is willing to try for her. Almost all males in attendance will receive equal consideration. She wants everyone to have a chance. Of course, she is aware that only the strongest and most agile flier will win in the end.

Why Me!?
Ashath needed someone who wouldn't have any problems assisting her in helping others, which she feels is her duty as a queen. Emkin's cool and calm handling of others is exactly what a dragon like Ashath could work well with. The woman's reservations about speaking means she's perfect for listening to the gold's constants barrage of questions and streaming chatter. Ashath knows that Emkin will listen to her, no matter what she has to say. Emkin will get the encouragement she needs to start voicing her own opinions as Ashath will continually encourage her to speak her mind more often. Eventually, Emkin will be able to tell her dragon that enough is enough when Ashath gets to talking too much.

Ashath knows that it is not good for Emkin to stay cooped up at home all the time. She is sure that she can draw her rider out and show her the wonders of the world outside her rooms. The young woman's care of her weaving tools vibed strongly with Ashath's own OCD. Ashath will drive Her's to be tidier in other things too, and Emkin's disorganization will help Ashath temper her OCD impulses.

Character Name: Isley
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: None/Candidate
History: Born to a young kitchen worker and a Brownrider, Isley was the result of a lost queen Flight, like many Weyr children. Though her mother had planned to raise the child, this thought changed when a daughter was born prematurely. This was the young, inexperienced kitchen worker’s first child, and afraid of the implications of a premature babe she decided to give the baby over to crèche shortly after naming her. She’d been told these babies born so early rarely survived, anyway, and she returned to the kitchens with some peace of mind that had had made the right choice. However, Isley was one of the rare survivors. Other than being a small child, she was perfectly fine in every other way. In fact, she seemed to be the one with the loudest lungs and the one with the biggest stomach. Other than a brief bout of sickness in her early toddler years, she was better off than many other premature babies. She had one bad case of a deep, hacking cough that wouldn't leave her for half a turn and took about just as long to recover from. Other than that, though, she's been blessedly lucky to be in decent health.

From an early age, Isley learned quicker than the other children. She was by no means a prodigy, but her mind seemed to grasp and catch onto concepts with impressive speed. It was Isley herself who first noticed this, around the age of four during a short Harper lesson. She already knew the words to the song, while the other children were still struggling with the pronunciation! This realization placed her on the short track to egotism, and soon she was seeing evidence everywhere of just how much smarter she was. Soon she was always the one with the sharp tongue, always the one who just managed to say the right thing to make a crecheworker shut up. The crecheworkers couldn't get her to listen (since she was so smart, she didn’t need to) and the Harpers couldn't get her to stop correcting them, whether she was right or not.

When she was nine turns, one Harper finally had enough. He said a great deal many things to her and in the end, Isley was shocked to find how hurt she was. So when she shut her mouth in surprise, the Master went on to explain that she should only correct when she is absolutely sure she is right. It’s best to pick ones battles wisely instead of just wading in with arms flailing. Isley took that to heart and resolved to be more careful about who she used words on, and what she was saying…a bit more, at least.

As she grew, Isley didn’t forget her intelligence, but she wasn’t so quick to disallow someone to correct her. Once she became old enough for Candidacy, she naturally took charge of some of the duties because she felt like she needed to. If someone else did it, they would do it wrong, and then all of the Candidates would get into trouble!

Isley wants to Impress a dragon – any dragon - not for the glory, but because she believes she is best suited for the task. She’s with the other Candidates all day, and her ears are filled with fart jokes and childish remarks. Let someone competent protect Benden!

Description: She stands at 5’0" even and doesn't appear to be getting much taller any time soon. All her proportions seem to be shrunk down and she's often confused for someone much younger than she is.

And what a mistake that is.

She's a tough cookie and you can tell it from the face. She's almost asexual and her lean body build does nothing to help that impression. Her large blue eyes are framed by dark lashes and usually hidden halfway under a scowl. Isley’s arching brows are almost permanently in that position. Combine that with her smart, sharp walk and you can tell she's a lady on a mission, and if you don't get out of the way, that 95 pound frame just might run you over. No stranger to hard work, her skin is nut brown and sprinkled heavily with freckles over her body. She's no delicate hold lady out to watch the condition of her skin. For that reason, her brown hair is brightened to a sun-kissed honey color. In the Benden winter it dulls to a normal, darker brown.

All in all, Isley generally appears to be your run of the mill weyrbrat. She's constantly scrapped and bruised, though it’s easy to assume it’s from fighting rather than lending her hand around the weyr. There is potential for her to grow into a pretty young woman. She has rosebud lips and a pert, cute nose all framed by an angular face that will soften a bit as she ages. If only she'd just stop glaring so much.

Personality: In all appearances, Isley is bossy and egotistical, falling short of the brat label by the sheer virtue that she doesn't whine or snivel. She prefers to do things by herself so that they are done right, and never hesitates to jump into a conversation if she believes someone to be wrong on a particular subject. If she knows what she's doing, Isley will automatically step up into positions where she is in charge of people; she does so without thinking that people will be offended by it, and therefor often gets labeled as power-hungry and something of… well, a b***h.

Isley doesn't do these things simply because she wants to be in charge. She does them out of a belief that, of the people gathered, she is the best able to perform the task, and thus will step up to show everyone how it should be done. If there is someone present who is more knowledgeable than she is, then Isley will step aside, though she'll be initially skeptical until that person has proved themselves. She's a bit morally ambiguous on all but the most important of rules and procedures, and gets irritated easily when people slack or skip out on their tasks.

What she doesn't seem to understand (or else just doesn't care) is that her forthright and blunt way of correcting or directing people can quite easily make them angry. If she can do it best, then why shouldn't she show everyone else? If someone is wrong, then they should be corrected, so that they don't make the same mistake again. She doesn't see why people get so irate with her about it, which usually means that she gets just as irate right back at them, often leading into a verbal spat. Despite these beliefs, Isley is not a risk-taker. She absolutely hates to fail or be wrong at anything, and so she won't try something unless she's one hundred percent certain that she can do it. She doesn’t hesitate to ask questions when she is unsure, and doesn’t pretend to know something she doesn’t just for the sake of saving face. On the occasion that she is wrong when she thought she was right or fails a task, the blow to her confidence and self-esteem is such that she generally needs to take a step back to center herself once more.

While some people may tend to avoid her after a few displays of her apparent ego, but those who stick around are quick to figure out that she's not, in fact, evil. Her perfectionist nature is ever present, but once away from tasks or duties that need to be done in a specific way to achieve the desired results, Isley is actually a fairly laid-back person. She's easy to talk to, to some degree. Idle chatter? Sure. Talking about lessons, what the future might hold, even idle gossip, all of these things are perfectly fine. Her past and personal life? Not so much. It’s not that she has anything to hide, but she doesn’t feel like sharing intimate personal details with just anyone. Isley isn't a particularly keen liar, so she's more likely just to clam up and not answer at all if someone asks her a question that’s outside of her comfort zone. Because of this, she's not so easy to make friends with; while she'll be generally friendly toward most people, it's a rare few that she forms any kind of permanent relationship with.

Relationships in general are an odd thing for her. Isley is very close to her family and those rare few who have managed to earn the title of friend, but other than that, she seems content to remain single. She's not had any kind of romantic relationship to date, which isn't helped at all by her constant aversion to touch. Isley is not a clingy, hand-holding, hugs-and-kisses kind of person, and will go out of her way to avoid such contact with nearly everyone. She doesn't shake hands, accept help to her feet, or do anything that will involve her touching someone else (or vice versa) unless she absolutely has to. Anyone who can't respect this particular boundary of hers gets exactly one warning before she puts them in the floor.

Other:

Dragon Name: Kheth

Personality: While a queen may be expected to be at least somewhat regal, Kheth is by her very nature far from that, and it won't be an easy thing for her to learn. Headstrong and vastly independent, she will often challenge the standard expectations of “proper” behavior for a female dragon, let alone a golden one. She has very little heed for her ranking status over the other colors. Kheth will not be the type to lord her golden hide over her fellow dragons. Instead, she wants to be respected and followed for her actions, the same as any other dragon, and does not believe it is her innate right to be glorified just because she was born as a queen. That was simply luck, and she has little use for those who judge her based solely on her color. Her merits as an individual are far more important than any shiny hide. As a weyrling in classes, she will insist that she is treated the same as the others. One of her most difficult challenges as both a weyrling and even as an adult is understanding why she will be relegated to the Queen’s Wing, the lower altitude, and in her opinion, less exciting Wing.

She fears very little, both physically and emotionally, and has little care for the egos of others. She'd be the type of dragon to point out that you have spinach in your teeth, and it looks absolutely ridiculous and you should go brush immediately to avoid further embarrassment. She is bluntly honest with both dragons and humans, pulling no punches or words, but also open-mindedly accepts that others may simply not agree with her. Orange is such a hideous color, why would you wear it? You like it? Oh. Very well. It is still ugly to Kheth, but you may continue to wear it if it so fancies you. Her words are hardly mean-spirited, however, and even in her bluntness she genuinely believes she’s doing her best to help out. She will never say something that is truthfully meant to hurt, though her advice could be tempered with more tact, and those who are overly sensitive may find Kheth’s version of “help” to be too much to take. Even so, apologies are incredibly rare from the young queen.

Kheth has ambition; there's nothing that can counter that, though it should not be confused with a quest for power. Rather, Kheth is interested in becoming the best that she can be. She’ll work at it and work at it until she’s pleased with her personal progress and skill. There’s no mindless “I must reach the top!” mentality, and honestly she cares not if Soandsoth is better than her at doing midair twirls and won’t be ashamed to admit it. She’s independent, and prefers to figure things out on her own rather than seeking help or a teacher. Stubborn and willful, Kheth would rather struggle through her learning something on her own than admit she needs help – she’s doing just fine on her own! In weyrlinghood she will try to puzzle out most activities on her own instead of asking questions, and this can and will cause her to fall behind on some things. It will be up to her rider to ask the questions for her dragon, and gently guide her with subtle hints rather than “You should do this”s.

Though her position as a queen grants Kheth some amount of natural prestige, she’s determined to carve out a name for herself that isn’t entirely determined by her color. She strives to be the type of queen dragons want to follow, not the type they have to follow. She will be a “queen of the people,” frequently interacting with the other dragons as much as she can – from the shyest green to the most haughty of bronzes – and won’t consider herself to be above them if they are of honorable personality. She is greatly interested in the gossip of other dragons, especially that from other Weyrs. She'll want to know which dragon has risen recently, who has clutched, who is fighting in what Wing, and everything about those odd Atypicals. Though her blunt advice may not be wanted by some, she will always be willing to offer it if any call upon her honest opinion, and they can trust that opinion won’t be swayed by bias.

But she is fiercely loyal to those to whom she is close, and will stay markedly silent rather than implicate any of her compatriots in any wrongdoing. She just simply won't say who did, even if she knows. She will never lie, firmly dedicated to the truth, but she will easily leave information out in determined omission in her effort to protect those close to her. Perhaps due to this dedication to others, she is most keenly distressed by anyone being unnecessarily mean or deceitful to her friends. If she catches wind of this happening, she won’t hesitate in the slightest to track the criminal down and confront them dramatically in front of everyone.

When proddy, Kheth will be easily emotional, swinging from highs to lows in confidence and need for company. One moment she'll be basking in the company of a male dragon, and like her fine disregard for rank, the color of the dragon won't matter nearly as much as his kindness and sweet disposition. The next moment is where she disdains all males in contempt at having deceived her. I know you only want me for my body! While Kheth will be affectionate with the male who catches her, what she won’t need is his constant attention, particularly on the Hatching Sands. She’s quite independent and competent enough to tirelessly care for the eggs on her own, thanks. He can leave her some food on the edge of the Sands and then go away.

Why Me!? Kheth requires a rider who doesn’t desire leadership for the sake of having power, and especially not someone who envisions themselves only on the back of a gold. Isley respects those who do things well, and that’s it. She won’t coddle Kheth just because she’s a beautiful golden dream, and Isley will expect as much competence from her dragon as she does everyone else. While Isley does not shy away from leadership, and even places herself into positions where it is needed, she’s also not afraid to relinquish it to another – but only after making sure they can do the job well. Kheth needs someone who is comfortable not always being on top, but at the same time someone who is confident and competent enough to handle it if they are.

They are both blunt, which may seem like overkill, but neither Kheth nor Isley would respect the other if one used flowery words and tiptoed around. They both recognize the important of being concise and to the point, no hidden meanings. Neither is afraid to say what needs to be said, even if it’s to each other, and both are firmly dedicated to the truth no matter the circumstances.

Kheth wants to be respected for her actions, and Isley has the drive and ability to get her there. Isley won’t let the dragon back away from something she knows she can do, and at the same time she can compensate for the dragon’s independence by asking the questions for the gold and emphasizing the important of learning before doing. During the times when Isley’s confidence are shaken by a mistake, Kheth will soothe her rider’s worries.

Kheth will encourage Isley to interact more, and hopefully loosen up emotionally and physically. The gold’s insistence to gossip and mingle with the other dragons will also include their riders, and Kheth will do her best to forge friendships and bonds.
