History: Born and bred in Malvren Weyr, Ariana hasn't seen or been anywhere else, and quite honestly she has no desire to. Malvren was where she was born, and in Malvren she will stay (and it's sooo much better than those other, lesser Weyrs anyway, why would she want to leave?). She was raised in the creche like most children in Weyrs, knowing that her father is a dragonrider of.. some color dragon, and her mother a cook or baker or something (obviously she doesn't care much about either of them). She sees her mother around occasionally but never bothered to try to form any sort of connection, and neither did her mother, so she really has no concept of a traditional family. Her life up until recently has been uneventful, nothing out of the ordinary really - growing up, staying out of trouble, the usual scrapes and bruises, playing with boys and teasing the girls. As soon as she was old enough she became a Candidate (what eligible youth wouldn't?), and even though it's been five years and she has yet to Impress a dragon, she knows she will eventually. She knows it - knows it so much that not Impressing is, in her mind, an impossibility, so she hasn't bothered to study any other craft. If she doesn't Impress, she will be absolutely flabbergasted and without a clue what to do with herself, but Ariana has absolutely no foresight, so she hasn't even thought about what'll happen after her 21st turn yet.
Description: There are quite a few people - older, usually - who say this girl could use more meat on her bones. Ariana says her bones and her meat are just fine, thank you, as almost all of it is muscle anyway and that's just how she likes it. She doesn't typically stand out in a crowd - not just because of a lack of abnormal traits, but also because she's so freaking short. Standing at 4'11" ("Eleven and a half, thank you very much!"), Ariana is lean and she'll get a womanly figure eventually (or so she keeps telling herself, since she really has little in the way of curves just yet), but for the time being her body type looks very androgynous, save for her face and hair. The former is sprinkled with a healthy (over)dose of freckles on rosy cheeks and a small nose, complete with a pair of bright, keen hazel eyes. The latter is long - lower back length when soaking wet, mid-back when dry - brown, thick and curly. Other than that, Ariana is your typical, run-of-the-mill skinny 16 year old girl, who will eventually (hopefully) look more feminine as she ages.
Personality: Ariana is a tomboy through and through, and the only "prissy" thing she does is in relation to her long, thick hair, which she adores and is very proud of, thank-you-very-much, so she takes excellent care of it. When it comes to friends, she makes them easier with boys than with girls, and is interested in the former while slowly growing much more... curious about the latter. She both works hard and plays hard, doing all of her chores with enthusiasm before playing games (in her very limited spare time, if she ever finds any) or making more friends with just as much energy, and her usually positive and upbeat attitude makes the latter easier.
Ariana is energetic to the max, making some older Candidates wonder just what she's on to get all of it, and is just as quick to give compliments as she is to give sarcastic remarks depending on who she's talking to. Friends - actual and potential - get her positive behavior, friendly and amiable, always willing to help out or lend a hand, and occasionally a healthy dose of flirting. Anyone who isn't is subject to skepticism, criticism, and frequent sarcastic remarks from what seems to be a snarky, mean-spirited individual. Adults are subject to the former (minus the flirting, ew), although sometimes it's rather forced if she doesn't like them; that and her attitude towards those she dislikes are part of her belief that her respect must be earned. It's not her fault if they don't try or don't want to. If they want to be snarky jerks, she can be too. Two can play at that game, after all.
She is fiercely loyal and protective of those she's deemed true friends (going so far as to start fights or jump into ones already happening - the best defense is a good offense, after all), and she holds that same level of loyalty to Malvren Weyr, which is obviously the best Weyr ever and everyone else had better know it. This was just one of the many reasons she's dreamed of Impressing a dragon - so she and hers could protect the Weyr she loves and everyone in it. Even if she doesn't like everyone in it, they're still part of the Weyr and therefore better than people from other Weyrs (who she would never associate with ever.)
Another note about her is that she can be an incorrigible flirt when the mood strikes her, and more and more she's finding it doesn't matter if she flirts with boys or girls - both are just as much fun and attractive.
Other: In a nutshell, Ariana is head-strong, opinionated, stubborn, fierce, loyal, hard-working, and flirtatious. Her beliefs about respect can sometimes get her in trouble with adults she thinks have yet to earn it, and once she makes up her mind about doing something, nothing nor no one can stop her from trying her damnedest to do it.
