Private Weather: Low Clouds, some grey with the low hope of rain, heat hitting the 90s, with humidity. Location: Beside one of the small pools of water trapped in the ravine of the dried river, hidden by scrubby under brush and the deep trench made by last year's run off. There were some days that Makani wanted to strangle the female of their small pack in her sleep, cripple her and leave her for the vultures, and today he was debating on doing both to her as he looked at the small, whimpering cub sitting in front of him.
She usual did impulsive, stupid things, at least as far as he was concerned, but this, this was the jewel in her crown of idiocy that even he could not fathom as to what she had been thinking at the time.
Stealing a cub was suicide at best, bringing it back to the pack..the small pack was homicide, bringing it back alive and conscience, border on being psychotic.
Looking up at her, his eyes glittering dangerously, his voice tight, obviously holding back a slew of all kinds of nasty vile comments, the leader of their group managed to control himself as a good leader should and say only, " You idiot."

The fem sat on her bottom, head bending lower as her back leg swiped at her ear, scratching at whatever insect was irritating her flesh. A single eye squinted shut as she scratched, with her head bobbing each time to foot connected to the back of her ear.
Since the pair's last squabble, Aleka was going through the motions. Actively provoking the male. Their 'leader'.
This most recent act going against her character... strangely enough. For a hyena who was so worried of the disease, it showed just how far she would go just to spite Makani. Enough to put them all in danger.
But if there was one thing to take pride in, was the fact that he was genuinely enraged. To the point of finally going into that brawl she's been craving? Unfortunately not. It was pretty bothersome.
"What? You had a death wish. I thought my little present would spur us along." The fem said through a false smile. Where was that thing anyway? She thought to herself. Keeping hostages under check was difficult. Mainly when little care was taken into the deceased little whelp. With an absent sigh, Aleka pondered on what to do in this situation. She didn't have a plan for the cub. All of this was just to get Makani to snap. Endangering them in the process was only a consequence.

Makani ground his teeth together, watching her scratch her hide with abandonment and wondering if he could be so lucky that she knocked her self silly with her own foot. When she spoke to him, if you could count the dribble at came from her mouth as conversation, he realized that the gods truly hated him.
The dark colored hyena had not seen his ghost in days, the gray male that had always been at his side. Narrowing his jewel colored eyes, he wondered what had happened to him, the worry like a shadow following him, and on its heels came the realization that if To'hla did not return, this reckless act by the female in front of him, relived him of his responsibility to her.
He was done.
Makani returned her smile with one of his own matching it for ugliness and hatred, " How sweet of you to bring me a present, and still alive. Clever, clever Aleka. I shouldn't take the spot light from you. What do you propose we do with the little thing."

The scratching continued, raking the hind paw against the now tender flesh. Once a sting began to form, Aleka ceased. Shaking her head briefly to cause those large floppy ears to sway before dropping into their natural position.
She could see the anger practically seething from the male's part. Which only caused her smile to turn into a genuine one. "What? You can't figure it out for yourself, Leader?" For now she will just pander away. Having not put much thought in what to do with the little thing. Obviously the parents will come looking for it eventually... Aleka assumed they'd be better off keeping it alive. A dead cub would be more trouble than it's worth. The little thing could barely act as meal. Getting killed for it would be pointless.
But just to be difficult, the fem decided to pull his leg. "I've taken a liking to it. I'm thinking we should keep it." Aleka said in a matter-oh-fact statement.

Makani smiled at her, all the warmth of a vampire in it, perhaps even less, " It could be very useful, that is true. I wonder if the lions would trade something for it..maybe a bit of dinner, since it really is to small to make one all its own..."
He pretended to think a little more, as if mulling over some deep thought, some grand plan, even though he'd already made one when he saw the idiot female bringing in the cub.
" Yes I think that will do just fine. You Aklea with stay here with the little beasty, do try to keep it in good shape, and I will risk life and limb to see if I can get the lions to see reason in bargaining with us for the rat's life."
He stood up and stalked over to the lion cub and swiped off a chunk of its tail, getting a yelp for the cub, which he cuffed into silence. " For proof of life , so they know we are not lying," he eyed her, " do try and be a good girl and stay in one place hummm?"
With that, Makani looped off toward were the lions were,a whole different plan in his mind. The female had bitten off far more then she could chew this time. For Makani had indeed intended to go to the lions, only the cub was not going to be a bargaining chip for food, but for another reason entirely.
