Oh the sting of adolescence. Safura was feeling it lately. Her body had filled out some and the lingering baby fat was slowly shifting to different places, places more noticeable to the males of the pride. And boy was she being noticed alright. She couldn't help but notice the sideways glances coming from Ithunzi'lusizi lately and it tickled her a bit. A boy she grew up with giving her looks. Too bad for him she wasn't interested. She felt his mind had been poisoned by her Grandfather, Joto'Damu, who had cleverly liked to pry the boy away from the rest of the little ones every now and again and feed lies. Oh well, not her concern really.
One male had yet to even give her a second look; Kosoko. He still was the grump she grew up being watched over by. She never quite figured out what exactly about her struck him the wrong way, but lately she didn't care all that much. She was soon going to be a fully-fledged Umbikezeli. She already had a few visions growing up, and her mother allowed her and her sight-fortune'd sisters to sit in on the duties of the other Umbikezeli. It was exciting.
Looking around the inner sanctum, the shrine area, of the pride Safura found her eyes locking onto a more than familiar lion. It was Kosoko, she could recognize that bright pink and range from anywhere. He was rather early today and not by Uji's side. He must be enjoying his own personal time.
Like hell he is, Safura thought to herself, getting up from where she was rested.
Safura had made it into a game to get as close as possible to Kosoko these days. It always seemed to make him a little uncomfortable and grumpier, which gave the normally bright eyed and bushy-tailed Safura a tiny sadistic thrill. She had a little bad-girl in her, although it was reasonably harmless. Quietly strolling in the direction Kosoko was at, she pretended to be distracted by something and bumped into him purposefully with a semi-hard push.
"OH! Pardon me, Kosoko." She said sweetly.

Kosoko. Oh Kosoko. As each day passed, he grew more and more irritated with the visions he had. They grew more and more vivid -- some really quite embarrassing. The more embarrassing ones tended to involve Safura, and that really, really irritated Kosoko more than he could say. It wasn't so bad now that she was getting older, but she was still younger than he and she was also Kizuka's daughter. Kosoko would rather throw himself off a cliff than bring upset to Kizuka -- he admired the lioness, after all.
Consumed by his thoughts, he hadn't even seen the bane of his existence approach him. He hadn't seen her approach because if he had, he'd have put on his grumpiest expression and marched away as fast as he could. She'd been really touchy-feely as of late and each time she touched him sparks flew. It was electric. He doubted that she felt the same zing of electricity that he did whenever she touched him.
The same zing of electricity that shot through him when she stumbled into him.
"Gods be good, Safura," he snapped, jerking around to frown at her with those bright eyes of his. His nose was pink and his ears were tinting the same pinkish hue, "would you please watch out where you're going?!"

"I did ask for your pardon, Kosoko," She said quietly, averting her gaze and turning her head slightly to the side to avoid his eyes.
She hated looking into those eyes, and not because she disliked Kosoko. Oh no. For in fact Safura had nothing but love for Kosoko. It was dark and it was brooding and it burdened her since she reached adolescence, but gods be damned, it was love.
She had always had odd visions growing up. Some had brought them good fortune, such as finding her Grandfather and subsequently her father. Others were just confusing, like the flashes of white, pink and lavender she saw as a juvenile with the overwhelming feeling of love attached to it. Than of course was the most disturbing of her visions who's meaning came to her one day as she starred into the pride's river like an immaculate epiphany. The one where she lay dying and the last vision she sees is Kosoko's sobbing face.
It haunted her. It really did. She knew what it meant, but for some reason she thought it wrong. How could she... of all people, fall in love with him? Give devotion to him? He didn't even like her. She felt he thought her burdensome; however... Just as she grew her visions also grew. Lately they had all been pleasant and all revolving around him. Playing in the flowers, sweet words in her ear... children.
She shivered at the thought and looked back at him, "It was an accident. It's not like I meant to run into you."
Such a lie.

It wasn't that Safura infuriated him. It wasn't that she disgusted him or made him upset. It wasn't that he was furious that she'd grown into such a beautiful young lioness. It was not any of these things that caused Kosoko such distress.
He was afraid. He was afraid to believe in what his visions showed him. He was afraid to believe that he could find love and happiness and loss all wrapped up together with this lioness that he would give anything and everything to protect. He'd had the visions of her silvery eyes gazing at him with love as she nursed their cubs. He'd had visions of rolling in the fields with her, making fools of themselves as they enjoyed the life they'd been given. He'd had visions of losing her - though they remained cloudy and hazy - he'd had these visions.
Kosoko had not even taken her as his mate, and he'd already lost her -- at least in the visions that tormented him.
"Don't you have things that need to be done?" He snapped, inching away from her. Being cranky was the only way he could keep himself from turning into a slobbery, drooling fool at her feet. He was so utterly in love with her that it was ridiculous.
He was ridiculous.

Ohh, Kosoko.
Safura could feel herself begin to frustrated a tad. Who was he to think he could take that tone of voice with her? Her nose crinkled a little and her mouth pursed slightly as she just starred at him for a few quick moments until a response rose to her mind.
"Nope~." She said, tilting her head to one side with a semi-sarcastic smile, "My instructions are done for the day. I'm free to do what I please, as I please."
It took Safura a moment to realize how wrong that sounded departing from her lips to Kosoko's ears. How scandalous it would have been had the pride's policy on breeding not been hippie-grade lax.
He nose and ears turned pink slightly at her realization and she side-glanced from Kosoko for a moment. It was much more noticable for her to blush than it was for him to blush. Her coat being so pale that blush, dirt, paint, anything stood out against it quite prominently.
"Besides, don't you have a meeting or something with Uji?" She said, having always used her nickname for her mother's mate and not his full name. She felt it impersonal, and although he was not really her father he had always been there for her when she needed him, so she couldn't scoff him.

Kosoko's brow dropped in quite the amazing scowl as he fought the urge to bare his teeth. If she was feeling frustrated his own frustration was over nine-thousand. Because of this he was feeling rather snippy (which wasn't unusual for him when it came to Safura).
Too caught up in his own thoughts that blossomed at her provocative words, he did not see the blush that bloomed on her face and ears.
"I might," he snapped in response to her question about his plans for the day, "not that it is any of your concern," he finished with relish. He would rather snatch her up and take her into the woods and just immerse himself in her, but Kosoko was fighting his own visions tooth and nail. He wasn't going to give in.
Or so he hoped.

Safura scowled at him openly and equally, "Well maybe I'll make it my concern."
Her tail flicked side to side in annoyance at the assertion that anything that had to do with him was none of her concern. Of course it was her concern. She was in love with the grumpy lion, and although his feelings may not be the same for her it wasn't going to stop her from being the biggest pain in his furry butt.
There's no way we're meant to be, Safura muttered to her internally. He's so grumpy. And rude. And frustrating. My visions showed me someone sweet and loving, someone I had fun with. How could I have fun with him!?
She grumbled a little audibly and huffed, "Not even close to what I saw. You're just a giant grump."
He wouldn't know what she was talking about, so she didn't care that he heard.

Oh, great. She was going to make it her concern. That was just what he needed. Safura constantly underfoot and in his face. There would be no escaping her. There would be no relief. There would be no freedom. Just the thought of it made him want to disappear. He wasn't sure if he could take it, and he opened his mouth to tell her what she could do with her nosy little adorable nose.
And then he realized what she said.
"Wait, what do you mean, saw."
No way, no how. She wasn't having visions of him, that would just be insane. That would be ridiculous. That would be... well, it would be his dream come true. He narrowed his eyes at her and waited impatiently for her to answer.

"It's none of your concern," Safura mirrored, her nose flaring a little bit as she plunked her butt on the ground in front of him.
Of course, she wasn't going to leave it at that, no sir. She was so frustrated by her visions, by him, by all of it that she would gladly spit out the contents of her mind to him. Gods knew she had been keeping it inside for long enough, to some disturbing degree. She hadn't even told her own mother of the visions she had. Of the indecencies she explored in her mind... with him.
"What do you think I mean by saw, Grumpy? I'm going to be an Umbikezeli. I see things. Maybe I've seen you," She questioned rhetorically, looking away with a wiggle of her nose and than glancing at him side-ways. "I like vision-you better. He wasn't a grump."
She averted her eyes again and lifted a leg to scratch behind her ear. He probably wouldn't care much of what she saw and think her visions falsehoods. After all, they were in an argument. A lover's spat, although he was unaware of it.

Kosoko was too angry to smile. Her sassy little a** knew all the right buttons to push in order to really tick him off, and right now all of them had been pushed. Nostrils flared, ears half-pinned, a furious twist to his mouth. He pressed closer, nose to nose with the little princess that had his gut tied in knots and filled his mind with thoughts that filled him with a toxic mixture of shame and desire. "I'm not sure what you mean, Safura," he snarled, narrowing his dual-toned eyes at her. "Explain your words before I get upset." As if he wasn't upset already.

pinchmonster And boom goes the dynamite. Safura was almost startled by Kosoko's sudden appearance all up in her face. Not one to let herself be intimidated by the larger male (although admittedly, had she not been so frustrated and mad at him she'd be quakin' in her pristine white little paws), Safura pushed back, her nose pressed firmly against his nose to the point where it tickled her unpleasantly. Wet on wet nose action felt strange. Was it supposed to feel strange?
She glowered her pretty pale orbs at Kosoko's dual-toned ones and bared her teeth, letting the words drip off her tongue, "It's exactly how it sounds, Kosoko. I liked the you in my visions, better. HE was SWEET. HE was KIND. HE made me LAUGH, CRY AND FEEL LOVED. HE GAVE ME THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN I'VE EVER SEEN."
Safura was practically seething smoke from her mouth and ears as she yelled at him, her eyes welling up with tears, "I want that Kosoko! I want the one I fell in love with in my visions! The one that gods let me know is mine!"
She reared back slightly, tears falling down her cheecks as she shoved her paws into shi chest, "Where is he!? Why are you not him!? Why don't you love me like I love you!?"

The scowl that was on Kosoko's face slowly melted away as her words sank into his brain. He did nothing as her small paws pressed into his chest, her words roiling over him. She loved him? She'd seen him in her visions? Was this even possible? He blinked rapidly as he took in the tears and the rage in her eyes. He'd been pushing her away, and for what? She had to have had the same visions he had and yet here she was willing to take a chance on a future together. Rocking back on his haunches, Kosoko dipped his head so that he could look directly into her eyes, his voice a mere whisper. He could trust her, couldn't he? Their visions wouldn't lie... and he had an impulsive urge to tell her that he'd seen the same things that she had. "I've had these vision too," he whispered, his eyes burning with all of the passion and love that he had in his heart, "the same visions. I was just.. too afraid." He'd been so foolish.

pinchmonster I would give you a cookie, but I don't want to kill you on top of making you weepy. "What?" Safura murmured, having emotionally exhausted herself at this point with her still semi-childish display.
Quite frankly she was surprised he was even sitting there still, talking to her, looking as he did. She was certain that as soon as she had pushed him she would either have gotten cracked in the head or verbally railed and left sobbing. She didn't exactly think Kosoko was the type to do something like that, but when you have a younger girl all in your face pretty much telling you you're not what her possible fantasies are normal reactions don't usually occur.
"You... You have visions?" She questioned quietly, half-stunned, half-scared. Not for herself, but for him.
She remembered the pridal stories. About how the original leader's sons were granted with the sight and how they all went mad. Would he go mad? No, he couldn't go mad. He would be there... when she died.
"Why... Why wouldn't you just tell me?" She asked, scootching closer to Kosoko, lowering her voice in concern.
They had attracted considerable attention from some of the lions in the sanctum. No doubt Theluji and Kizuka would quickly find out.

"Safura," he said softly, shaking his head, "you know that I cannot just ... speak freely of my visions. To do so would risk losing the pride that I love and the only home that I have ever known. Even now in telling you I have taken a huge risk. I only speak of these visions because I feel like I can trust you with this part of my life." He cleared his throat and dropped his gaze, "I have been having these visions since you were born. They started out fuzzy and scattered but as you have grown older -- as I have grown older -- the details of these visions are both incredible and nightmarish at the same time." Kosoko shook his head, a stubborn set to his jaw as he shot furious glances at the lions that milled around eavesdropping. "You deserve a lion guaranteed with sanity," he said sadly, "which is another reason that I kept quiet. I do not know if I will go mad in the future, Safura. I do not know if my sight will rip me away from you. This is another reason that I have tried to distance myself from you. But if you are having the same visions as I am..." he trailed off, trying not to sound too hopeful. He could only hope that she was saying what he thought she was saying.

Safura made a face, pursing her lips and puffing her cheeks up a bit. She was determined to talk this way, mostly for her own benefit as the seriousness of the air was starting to make her antsy. She wasn't crying anymore, she wasn't angry anymore. His feelings were the same as her's, and although she understood his need to not take risks, well... She couldn't help but feel they were unwarranted with her.
"I can be trusted with anything, mnnkay?" She said, her face suspiciously looking like that of a fish's at the moment. It was a little funny to see her talking, "I know what the pride's history dictates, but those are old-old stories. Besides, I've seen the future. And none of my visions show you going coo-coo bananas."
She sighed, exhaling the the stored breath in her cheeks; it was starting to hurt a little. She was never good at making faces anyway.
"Look... It's not like I wasn't uncomfortable seeing you in my head, either," She said, looking away as she talked quietly. Her ears and nose reddened once again with a couple of the vivid visions flooding her mind, "It's not like... it's not like anyone really wants to see themselves in those kind of situations."
Her tail flicked back and forth sporadically. The conversation was turning a little embarrassing. Feeling scandalous was supposed to happen after the act, not before the act... and certainly not months or weeks before the act.
"Despite that... All my visions. Every one of them... They made me happy. Which I imagine is how my mother feels whenever she catches sight of my father. Happy... Loved," She muttered, daring to look back at him, "You acting like a grumpy. Me not knowing why you disliked me... It made me lonely... and sad. I may only be an adolescent, but I.... I don't want to spend my life feeling that way. I'd rather... chance happiness on what I've seen... not what I'm worried of."
