This is something that a lot of you may already know about and there may already be a thread on this, but HELL it's amazing to me! Plus I didn't really check for any threads on this so I'm kinda taking a blind shot. xp
I bought this book the other day called "13 Secrets to Speaking Fluent Japanese." So far a really down-to-earth book as it pointed things out I'd have never thought of on my own (like communicating despite not knowing the exact word).
One of those things had to do with phone numbers of Japanese businesses. This is something that blew me away when I first read it! It said that businesses manipulate the numbers so that they actually make words which makes the number easy to remember. For example, 308509 could be decoded to "Refreshing Cola."
See, because of the different ways numbers may be read this message was able to be created. Because 3 can mean sa, 0=wa, 8=ya, 5=kako (in what way I have NO idea xp ), 0 can ALSO mean o, and 9 can mean ku this clever message was able to be made.
I was like "WHOA eek !" I honestly had not seen anything like this before. My favorite one is 39 meaning san-kyuu which translate to thank you. 3nodding I may start using that from now on! mrgreen
Has anyone else ever known about this all along???
