Mariel stared at the empty hole in her yard. It used to be a small lake with a fake river feeding it, all man made but right now it was a deep empty trough of nothing. The construction men were done with it for the day but she was told it was being turned into a salt water habitat for her soon to be dragon. She was excited about the whole project but right now it couldnt be more annoying. She had promised Kliken and Tural a tour of her backyard lake but right now there was no water and she was BORED! She turned and stared at the phone taunting her on the side of her bed. She had grabbed it in a huff after getting her mothers approval to call a friend and go out but now with this lack of water...well she had to figure out a way around this. She was still young at 7 but with her mother always working it wasnt hard to be independent and with her mothers offer of dropping her anywhere (with a friend not alone!) she just COULDN'T let it go to waste. Than it came to her and she dialed. "Hey Kliken you bored? Well I have a plan!"

Mariel hung up the phone with excitement there was a river just a small way from her mothers property it was perfect AND it still had fresh water. She even wondered if it had ducks to practice her hunting with, she had been itching to do it on the real thing. She packed up a small backpack with snacks and some cooking experiments with pond scum she had collected and dried for Tural. Mostly pastries stuffed with the dried pond scum and covered in different sweet stuff but she was proud of it.She jumped in the car and was there in a jiffy since it was so close. Her mother mumbled the usual speech (call when your done, no staying out to late after dark....blah blah) Mariel had heard it so many times that it didnt register as much as she left "I will mami, no worries Kliken has a DRAGON I'll be safe." and finally she was left to find a good shady tree near the water and wait. The day was hot and she was in her bathing suit and shorts so waiting with the cool breeze was almost as pleasurable as she expected the water would be once Kliken arrived.

To have someone call for Kliken was different and unexpected, it was also a nice change of pace for the boy that was used to spending the majority of his time alone with Tural. It wasn't bad having things just the two of them but it seemed that teaching his dragon to talk was... a slow going process, on top of that what he had learned thus far was just words that aided him in getting food. Was it just him or was Tural looking a little pudgy? Given his breed of dragon though it was hard to tell, he'd always been a little round and it was hard to tell. Maybe he was just getting bigger he thought to himself as he changed his clothing to something more appropriate for outside, getting some shorts and a shirt on, grabbed some sandals to toss into a bag if they ended up going somewhere shoes were required, then a bunch of other things. Food for himself, food for Tural, though he knew he'd eat whatever he found on top of his algae snacks, and a few other things that might be needed.

The pack back on his back, and a smaller pouch hanging around his neck where he kept his ocarina, he felt that he was ready, "Come on, Tural. We are going to go and play with Mariel." He told the dragon, heading down the hall and into the dark garage where the car was waiting for them. The windows of the car were all tinted in a manner that didn't allow bright light inside but allowed him to see out of them. Waiting at the door was Than, the man reached out to opened up the door for the pair and Tural shuffled over and crawled up into the car before Kliken followed. He looked up at Than and smiled, "Momma is alright with me going out, right?" he asked of him.

He nodded, "Yes, the Mistress sounded as though she were quite delighted that you were going to be out playing with a friend. She wants you to take your phone along so that you can call me to get you when you are ready to go." He said, watching as Kliken got into the car and the man closed the door behind the young man. He then walked around the car getting in the front seat so that he could drive out of the underground garage and toward where he was dropping Kliken off to play together. Soon enough the car was coming to a stop and Than got out, walking around the car and opened it up for the pair, "I will see you later, have fun." He said, giving a wave to him as they got out of the car, Tural first as he just had to see where they were and what he could get into.

Kliken watched his dragon partner for a moment, chuckled, then turned to look over at Than, "I will call later, thank you for the ride." He nodded to the man before headed out on his way, chasing after Tural who already had a mouthful of... something, chewing at it, seeming to be deciding what he thought of the flavor.

Mariel heard the car pull up and didnt get up right away since her shady spot was particularly comfortable but upon hearing the car pull away she started to stand up and turned just in time to see Kliken chasing after Tural. She giggled as she noticed that Turals mouth was full and half wondered what he was eating. "Hey Kliken, I'm over here!" She called over to them before jogging the short distance over. Mariel was in a great mood, she had friends with her and the day was beautiful. She dug into her back pack and pulled out one of her experimental pond scum pastries and held it in her hand wondering if it would attract tural on its own or if the park had too many smells for him to notice. She patted the water dragons head with her free hand. "I havent seen you in a while Kliken, its good to see Turals still the same. Has he granted any wishes lately?" Mariel was still semi convinced that Tural was a wishing dragon and so she thought it best to stay on his good side.

She then looked at Kliken with a smile "How have you been?" Mariel knew from their past encounter that Kliken was a bit on the quiet side and so she had made it a kind of goal for the day to get him to talk. She figured the best way to do this was to put him at ease and so far the weather seemed to be cooperating with her. The heat wasnt to oppressive and she was sure that once they were in the water all of them would be more at ease since they were all water creatures.

Kliken ceased chasing after the chubby dragon that was happily shuffling along through the tall grass and turned to look toward where he'd heard the girl's familiar voice calling out his name, "M-Mariel." He murmured, his stutter returning a little in his excitement to see a friend that he hadn't seen for some time. Turning to move toward her he couldn't help but to smile, showing his many sharp teeth before realizing they were showing and quickly covered his mouth for a moment. Until the others he'd met in his time he felt that he'd been a bit gypped when it came to interesting animal features. He had a strange skin color, sharp teeth, and the inability to eat real food... how he'd love a fluffy tail or something.

Shoving those sorts of thoughts aside he decided to try to focus on the good, like how he was gladdened to be back around this kind girl, rather delighting in the idea of getting to hang out around her again. She was cheerful and cheerful people always seemed to lighten his mood. He'd been getting to be worse and worse when it came close to sticking close to home other then when it came to his various classes or when Drez called, this was going to be good for him he thought to himself before he paused once he reached her side, "Yeah, it has b-been a while." Had she gotten taller since they last met? It sure seemed like it. How long had it been since they had last met? A while, huh?

"Huh, wishes? Not as many of late, no, though he is learning to sing." He said before looking at Tural who was sniffling at what the girl had in her hand before spitting out the mouthful of flowers and grass he had, and was that a butterfly wing he saw? He was sure that it had been the winged creature that Tural had been trying to taste but likely ended up with the rest of the stuff in his mouth as an added bonus of flavors when he tried to chomp down on the bug. Giving a bit of a chuckle he watched as the dragon started to sniff and nuzzle against her hand. His eyesight was poor but he seemed to realize that she had something tasty in her hand, something that he wanted... so he opened up his mouth, drooling a bit, and set to licking at what she held in her hands in hopes of being able to snag it.

"Be nice Tural, I am sure she would give it to you if you asked nicely for it." He told his dragon partner, not wanting him to close his mouth around her hand as well as the treat. He had no teeth but he doubted that she wanted dragon slobber all over her hand...

Mariel had never noticed that Kliken had such sharp teeth before. He flashed them for only a moment before they were gone. She wondered why all of them were sharp and as her mink curiosity started to bubble up about it she fought it down. There was something about the way he had stopped smiling that told her this was not the time or place to ask that question. So she filed it away for later and decided to focus on the moment. Kliken looked good, no worse for wear, she noticed he still had a bit of a stutter but once he started talking it seemed to fade away and Mariel took that as a good sign.

"Its always too long between visits from friends" Mariel laughed lightly "He is learning to sing? to music or just to his own tunes? Mariel wondered what a dragon singing sounded like. Was it loud like rock music or soft and mellow like an orchestra? She turned to the dragon now nuzzling at her hand and smiled. "Aha you noticed the treat I made you! Its got some pond scum stuffing," Something that Kliken said just processed into Mariels mind...If he asked nicely? Was Tural learning to talk? This was kind of exciting but Mariel had to be sure. "Is Tural learning to talk?" She looked to the dragon "Can you ask for it? say please and I'll give you two whole ones!" Mariel let Tural get a good slobbery teaser before pulling her hand away and dangling the pond scum pastry in front of him to see what would happen.

He nodded as he lifted one hand to pat Tural on the head, "Mostly he will sing along with the stuff that I play for him." He said, patting the pouch that hung around his neck, "I have an ocarina that I play for him and after awhile he started to sing along, it's actually pretty cute." He sounded so proud of his dragon and he was just that, loving the Cruzoor so much. He was an adorable dragon and he even when he was going around tasting things and people he was fun, mostly due to the looks that he got on his face.

The dragon starred at the girl with his gray eyes, blinking a couple times, then licked his maw at mention of what it was. Pond scum stuffing? Oh that sounded good... his tail started to swish along behind him as he shuffled a little closer, opening his mouth about to swallow up her hand along with the treat when she said that if he said pleased that he could have two whole ones! Two, two, yes! Yes! He pushed up onto his back feet and started to talk in rapid chirps and huffing sounds, sounding as though he were trying his best to ask 'nicely' for the treats that she had in her hands something that had Kliken smothering laughter.

"He tries, on occasion he will come up with a sound that almost sounds like a word but I believe in him, he will get the hang of it... though I am sure if he does learn the first word he will learn will be 'food'." He said, having seen the way that he loved to stick things into his mouth to see if they were edible.

Mariel was excited about Turals singing, and it came with a bonus! She just learned that Kliken played an instrument! She had never heard of an ocarina before and eyeing the pouch around Klikens neck she had a hard time imagining an instrument small enough to fit in such a thing. Of course her house was all Hispanic music so she was used to acoustic guitar and mariachi stuff and all those instruments were definitely not small enough to fit in a pouch. "I never knew you played an instrument! I havent ever heard of an Ocarina but I bet you guys are a great duo." But before she could say more she had to Give Tural the attention he deserved. He had started to chirp in response to her offer and she couldnt help but start laughing too.

"All right Tural, you should go into motivational speaking little guy, I dont even speak dragon and I'm already convinced that you deserve two." Mariel smiled and swung her bag closer to her front in order to fish out a second pastry. She then placed both of them in front of the over eager dragon and knew that even if she wanted to she wouldnt be able to wipe the smile from her face. Turals excitement was infective and she had to admit she had a little p***k of pride at how much he wanted to eat the pastries she made. There was still no guarantee that he would like them but the initial excitement was a good sign to her. "There you go Tural eat em up and tell me if you like them"

Mariel turned back to Kliken and smiled "I think if he were a strategic dragon his first word would be 'please'. No one could resist a face like his, and adding please would be the icing on the cake." Mariel hypothesized. She couldnt imagine a situation where she could say no to Turals begging face and him saying please, haha she was sure the little guy could get away with murder! But her thoughts drifted back to the ocarina and music. "Come on lets get closer to the waterand the shade. You gotta show me your ocarina, I cant imagine an instrument thats small enough to fit in that pouch!" she started to lead Kliken over to a shady spot on the shore she had scouted out earlier, it would at least get them out of the sun for the moment and closer to the water.

Kliken flushed a little though it was difficult to see on his already dark, reddish colored skin, "Ahh... yeah, it was a gift from my Mother and I have been learning how to play songs on it ever since." It was something that he put a lot of time into to get right, wanting to make the woman proud since she had gone out of her way to get him such a nice gift, "T-Thank you. W-We do try hard." He had been most surprised the day that Tural had joined in, seeming to already know all the notes of the songs though that was likely because he'd heard them all many times over after listening to Kliken practice on many occasions.

The moment that the girl had taken out the second of the two pastries and held them out before the dragon he moved to slurp them up off her hand, leaving behind only a small trail of dragon saliva behind before he plopped down and started to slowly chew on the treats. All the while he was making all sorts of thoughtful sounds, as though he were debating over what he thought of the various flavors that came along with the treats that she had given him. His head was nodding, whiskers twitching, tail wagging, overall it looked as though she had made a successful treat given how into them he was. He looked almost lost in thought as chewed and sucked on them, something that made Kliken chuckle, "I think that he rather likes them." He told his friend, giving a bit of a laugh, even more amused as Tural gave a sound like a purr which sealed the decision that Mariel had done quite well.

"Yeah, I agree. Please would be a good first word for him, I guess we will see soon enough what he decides to say first." He said with a bit of a chuckle. At the suggestion that they go flower to the water and shade he gave a nod of his head, "That sounds like a good plan, come on Tural, we are going to go to the water." He told his dragon partner, giving him a pat on the head.

At the mention of water the dragon came out of his food daze to look at them, over to Mariel, then started to shuffle along behind them wanting to get to the water. He always liked it best because he moved faster in the water, there were all sorts of tasty things to eat in the water, and he could chase after things like fish for a bit of extra fun. He heard the water before he saw it, not having the best of eyesight, and once he got closer he realized something interesting. This water was moving! Swallowing the treats in his mouth he went in instantly, realizing that in moving water he needed only to lay in it facing the way it was coming from, mouth open, and food would be brought to him! What an ingenious idea this moving water was. Kliken gave pause, watching for a moment as Tural got comfortable, before he started to laugh, "Silly dragon."

Mariel smiled as she realized how much Tural liked his treat. It fed her ego a little bit since she really did love cooking at home, she felt a little braver and maybe she would make some more complicated dishes next time. She couldnt help but giggle at Turals way of showing thanks, it looked almost like he was doing a little dance that ended in a purr! It was definitely very endearing. As they all walked towards the shade Mariel half wondered what the dragons first word would really be. She kind of hoped that she would be there for it, it would be a fun experience since she had yet to hear a dragon speak. Well speak in a language she could understand, Vorrel had been able to speak but it was some strange language so they had used other methods of communication.

"Well Tural is definitely an opportunistic little guy! Look at that!" Mariel said with a smile as she noticed Tural taking advantage of the rivers flow to get things into his mouth. "Has he been to a river before?" He had figured it out so fast that Mariel was sure he must have been to a body of moving water in the past.Mariel put down her bag and began rummaging through it, she knew she had a camera in here somewhere......There it was! She pulled out her waterproof camera and checked if it still had space for photos. It had been a gift from Mr.Kuttner her surfing instructor to take pictures while she surfed but luckily the digital camera was only half full! She snapped a few photos of Tural and Kliken. "Aha! Now I have pictures so I wont forget why I love hanging out with you guys." she teased.

Mariel suddenly had an idea as her eyes once again settled on the ocarina. "Hey Kliken have you ever heard what the you sound like when you play?" It was probably an odd question but she had recorded herself singing once and her voice was totaly different from what she was used to hearing. "This camera records video, you should play your Ocarina and I can play it back for you. I recorded my voice once and when I played it back it sounded really different from how I hear my voice, maybe the same goes for instruments." She wondered if Kliken would be up for it, he was really shy but it sounded fun to test out the sounds.

Kliken gave a shake of his head, "Naw, this is his first river trip. He is just extremely sharp when it comes to getting something to eat." He said with a bit of a chuckle, watching as his dragon sat there in the shallows of the river, mouth open. From time to time he would snap his mouth shut, lift it up, tilt his head to let the water drain out the side of his mouth by opening it just a crack, then set to work chewing. After a few moments of chewing he'd swallow, then repeat the process. Kliken hadn't a clue what it was that he was catching but since he was enjoying himself there really wasn't anything to worry over. He turned over to Mariel quickly when he saw the flash of her camera, starring at the device that she'd taken his picture with. He flushed a little, finding himself hoping that he looked alright in the picture since he hadn't exactly been looking her way, instead having been watching what Tural was up to. He was overprotective of his dragon, wanting to keep him safe and happy, so often gave a lot of attention to him even when he didn't need a chaperone.

Deciding that he was going to attempt to give more attention to his friend so that she didn't feel left out he shifted the way he was standing so he was facing her more head on, "Ever heard it... no, not in a recorded way, only what it sounds like from my side while playing." He said, wondering if he might sound different when recorded. It might tell him where he needed more improvement, "It sounds like something I should try, I mean it would help me to listen back to my playing so I can see if it sounds good or if I need more practice." Though if you asked him there was never enough practice when it came to... well... everything. He was someone that had practiced his handwriting when he was little because he wanted even that to be perfect. He reached into the pouch to take out a small, circular instrument that was a deep blue in color, holding it out for the girl to see. It was a smaller one, fitting on the palm of his hand but he really liked the sound that this one made.

"This one has a nice, medium tone to it, it's called an alto one." He explained before he lifted it up to his lips playing a couple notes to get himself prepared before he started with a simple song, hoping that she might know Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. It was one of the first ones he'd learned and always the one that he used to warm himself up for the more complicated ones later on.

Off to the side of them there was a surprised sound, the sound of a lot of splashing, and then Tural rushing over to where the two of them were standing as quickly as his build would allow. He had a look on his face that clearly said 'How could you start without me!' Kliken paused for a moment, reaching a hand to pat him on the head, "I can start over for you." He told him, starting the song over and this time as the dragon followed along in his deep, crooning voice, whiskers twitching as he 'sang' along with the song that Kliken was playing.

Mariel was glad to hear that Kliken was interested in hearing what he sounded like. It meant that he would play for her and that was a super bonus. She ooohed and aaahed when he showed her the instrument. It was so tiny! It was a cute little thing but she kept her comments to herself at the moment since she didnt want to do anything to discourage his playing for her. "An alto...huh" Mariel parroted with an interested tone. She watched as he started putting the instrument to his lips then remembered that she was supposed to be recording him. She fumbled with the camera for a second switching the modes to recording film instead of just taking pictures and then made sure Klikens upper body was in the digital frame. "Kliken and his Ocarina" she said quickly before he started playing.

Once he started Mariel found that she rather liked the sounds that came out of the ocarina. It made her think that it would be the kind of sound that wind would make is wind willingly made music. Very airy and nice. Suddenly she was distracted by the splashing and noise behind Kliken and maneuvered the camera a little bit so that she caught Turals hurried return and she just HAD to zoom in on his face. He looked so upset! She zoomed back out and made sure to take a step back so that she could fit the two of them in the frame. "Kliken and his Dragon" Mariel hurriedly said before Kliken started playing. It seemed a better fitting title and she stood there and recorded the duo.

Once they were finished Mariel stopped the recording and smiled at them both. "You guys sounded great! Sorry we didnt wait for you Tural, we didnt know you wanted to be on camera too." Mariel apologized to the dragon and once again fumbled with her camera to switch it to playback mode. She had a few of her surf videos on it so she had to click around to the newest video of Kliken and Tural. "Alright Kliken are you ready to see yourself? I even got Turals running over here and his upset face just cause it was too cute. Just press that little play button and watch the screen." mariel showed Kliken the button and handed him the camera. The digital screen wasnt huge but it did take up all of the back of the camera so he would easily be able to see and hear himself since the audio also played back on this particular model. But since it was a smaller camera Mariel figured it would be easier for him to see everything if he held the camera himself.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 28, 2011 1:18 pm

Once the song was over Kliken lowered his hands, and the instrument in them, to take a breather. He turned to look over at Mariel as she told them that they sounded great and he couldn't help but to blush though it was hard to tell against his already dark, reddish colored skin. Compliments, even ones that were deserved, were always something that seemed to embarrass him, as though he didn't think that he was quite worthy of them. Given all that happened in his younger days though it was more then understandable why he thought in such a manner.

Stepping in closer to her he looked at the camera that she was showing and did as told, pressing the little play button so that he could listen to himself on the camera's screen. He fell quiet, eyes closing, as he listened to the music. He heard a few spots here and there where he felt that he could improve but at the same time it wasn't to bad, was it? He gave a bit of a smile as he listened though next to them Tural wasn't nearly so content to sit around waiting.

Instead the dragon seemed to perk up, pushing up onto his back feet, sniffed at the air, whiskers twitching. He heard the singing, that of a Cruzoor, and he was trying to figure out where it was coming from! It were as though another dragon knew Kliken's song! How was this possible?! The dragon's tail set to lashing from side to side, giving at huffing sound before he started to circle around Mariel and Kliken since the singing sound seemed to be coming from near to them... something that only confused him that much more since how it was happening made zero sense to the young dragon.

Mariel was glad that Kliken seemed pleased with his recording. She wanted him to hear how great he sounded. She really had liked his performance, the fact that it was a simple song only made it better. Because she knew it she could hear where he had put himself into the song and it made her proud to have a friend with such talents. She didnt notice Turals agitation at first, she thought he was just excited to hear himself but after a few minutes she could tell it was not excitement.

"Whats wrong Tural? You dont like the song?" She looked at the water dragon quizzicaly, maybe he wanted some praise for his good work to? "You did a really good job singing with Kliken, do you want to get a better look at yourself?" Mariel looked to Kliken "Maybe if you let him see himself he wont be so agitated?" Mariel wondered outside. Turals behavior really was a kind of mystery to her so she had to look to Kliken to figure out what was wrong with Tural.

"I wonder what he is upset about....I'm gonna save this video so when the two of you become famous I can say I saw it coming." Mariel smiled good naturedly at Kliken. "So how did you get into learning music Kliken? I'm curious since it sounds like you have been practicing so I know it isnt a new passion." Mariel was curious about how he got into his ocarina, especially since it was such a strange instrument.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2011 4:37 pm

Kliken gave a nod as Mariel suggested lowering the camera down so that the dragon could see better what was going on, "It's you Tural, kind of like TV. Remember?" He'd had to explain that to him on a few occasions. Whenever something scary was on the TV and it scared Kliken it always ended up with Tural growling at the screen in a manner that had always amused the leech boy. Scratching a hand against the underside of the Cruzoor's chin he gave him a smile, "It's alright, silly. It's you singing, not a strange dragon. I promise."

Tural shifted in closer so that he could see the small screen better with his weak eyes, starring at it, then gave a nod of his head. Ahhh, so that was it? It was like the television only it was starring his boy and himself, how wonderful! To think that they could be stars too! His tail swished and his whiskers twitched as better listed to the song and started to sing along with it once more. He liked this song and didn't mind singing along with it again. It was kind of fun to sing with himself he thought to himself.

Petting him a bit more the leech looked over at his friend and couldn't help but to flush, though it was hard to see on his dark skin, "Ahh, thank you. I am not sure about famous but we do enjoy the music." He said, giving a smile before he looked down at the instrument that he was holding, "How? It was a gift from my mother. It was quite a while ago that I started playing and Tural started to sing along a time after he started to memorize the songs." He sounded quite proud of his dragon, maybe even more proud of his skill then his own but then again how often did one hear a dragon singing? As far as Kliken knew Tural was the only one but then again he hadn't met a lot of dragons himself.

Mariel smiled as Tural seemed to understand what was going on after Kliken explained it to him. Since she didn't have her own dragon yet it had never occurred to her that dragons wouldn't know what TV was. She held in her anticipation and excitement at getting her own dragon. Soon she would be learning how to do all these things to make a dragons life better just like Kliken was doing and she couldnt wait.

She listened with interest as Kliken explained that the instrument had been a gift and how he had found out that Tural liked it by memorizing the songs. "Wow, that little instrument was a great gift if I have anything to say about it. I'm sure your mother must be so happy to hear you play it." Mariel swiveled her ears as she heard something splash in the water which caused her to pause for a second before continuing "How do you find your songs? do you just make them up?" mariel wondered how music worked. Did it just come to the musician and then happen or was there some kind of instruction sheet? She had always liked music but she had never really learned how to make it. So for her all music came from CD's and the radio. She hadnt ever seen music live untill just now and it peaked her interest.
