Girafarig had been selling maps, on and off, for days. Now, she was taking her lunch break for today. She had an entire artichoke in her cart along with an apple, a peck of poblano peppers, and even a bunch of bananas. She sat down next to her cart, smiled, and said, victoriously, "Now, I'm going to feast!" She stopped after she scraped the flesh off of some of the artichoke's leaves and then said, "Feast like a king! Even though I am but a lady." Then, she resumed eating again and didn't stop...

Derp had been wandering about the glade for a few days now, pestering its inhabitants with his transformation tricks. Some gladiers were more startled than annoyed by him changing his appearance, but nonetheless, nobody seemed to find it as funny as he did. He kept looking for new subjects to present his mimicry to, but little by little others had already started avoiding him.
It was a particularly warm day, and the Spica decided to find some shade for a short rest.. when he spotted a peculiar-looking Circinus, apparently eating lunch. Did she have two heads? Her tail clearly had a face. This fact amused Derp a great deal, and he figured it'd be funny to mimic the other gladier's appearance. In the blink of an eye, he'd turned into an almost exact replica of the Girafarig in front of him... except for his face.
He then proceeded to discreetly sneak up next to the Circinus to surprise her.

Girafarig had a feeling something had changed. No, she knew it had. It came with having a good sense of direction. She slowly looked behind her and what she saw surprised her so much that she jumped to her feet. "Aaaah!" she screamed. "Oh, my goodness! So, you're the one who looks just like me. The one giving me a weird reputation. So, we finally meet face-to-face." Her siblings told her stories about this, but she thought they were just messing with her, until now.
She didn't realize she was mistaken and kept on talking. "You know, I thought I'd have more to say when I met you, but I can't think of anything else to say. Well, I do think my brother and sister must be pretty dense to mix us up. I mean, our faces don't look anything alike! Right, right?" Then, she smiled and asked, " ...Uh, are you hungry? I have peppers and bananas to spare. No banana peppers, though..."

Derp yelped in surprise himself at Girafarig's reaction - even though he should have been expecting something of the sort to begin with. He had never been the sharpest tack, however..
And her talking left him staring at her blankly, mouth agape. "Guhhhhhh", was all he managed to utter at first, as her blabbering had confused him a great deal. He didn't normally look like her, did he? No, certainly not. This was just him transforming to look like her, yes? Yes, it had to be so. Who or what was she talking about then?
"Bananas?" he responded to the offer, his voice eager. Yes, he very much liked bananas. "Ba-na-na-naaaas."
"You have brother and sister? They tell you about Derp? Derp have no family", he finally managed to say after the 'wires' in his head had managed to connect enough to process her exclamation from moments before. "Derp not know what reputation is either." He looked somewhat apologetic - as much as one could tell from his rather blank face, anyway.

Girafarig tore a banana off the bunch and gave it to Derp. "There you go, Derp." She thought he had a strange way of speaking, but he seemed nice enough. She figured she'd try it. "Girafarig is glad to meet Derp." That felt weird. I'll just talk the way I normally I do now.
Answering his first two questions was easy. Yes. Yes. But she stopped, her ears drooped sadly, and she frowned at the third. "I'm sorry about that." She didn't want to inquire further, because she didn't want to dredge up any painful memories. "A reputation is what everyone thinks of you. Everyone thinks I'm weird. But now that I think about it, that's okay, isn't it?"

"Thank you! Bananaaaaa~" Derp exclaimed happily as he began to peel the fruit and took a bite off it.
"Your name Girafarig? Derp happy to make friend." He nodded as he talked, as if to confirm his statement both to himself and his companion. Yes, he was happy that someone didn't mind his tricks. Usually gladiers got mad and chased him away. Or maybe Girafarig just sincerely thought he was like her. Any further musing about it was too difficult for him.
"You no have to be sorry, Derp doesn't mind. Derp have others Derp lives with, so they as good as family, yes?" he said with a goofy smile, before taking another bite of his banana. "Oh, Derp understand. Lots of others think Derp weird too. But is the way Derp is, so others right? And Derp thinks Girafarig nice. Share bananas."

"You're welcome!" Girafarig finished her artichoke after that. "I'm glad you're not alone. I think friends and family are both just as good."
After she heard he said next, she walked closer to him and said, "We'll be weird together!", while she flourished with her right paw. "Aww, thank you, I'd be very glad if everyone thought I was nice too."
She had to think of something else to say. It wasn't like an opportunity like this came up every day. So, do you hang around here often? I was just here to sell stuff. Maps. I don't like seeing anyone get lost."

Derp had decided to stuff the entire latter half of the banana into his mouth at once and was now having a bit of trouble despite the softness of the fruit.
"Mmph pffft mnf!" he uttered with a goofy smile, his cheeks bulging like a hamster's. Finally, he managed to swallow, having to pat his chest with a paw briefly to get everything down.
"Derp go all over glades to look for someone to play with", he responded in a matter-of-fact tone. "Not too familiar with any, but enough to find way around them. Getting lost not fun, Girafarig do very important job." He nodded vigorously to emphasize his last sentence, as if she was a great hero. "Where Girafarig from?"

"Phew!" Girafarig was glad he didn't choke, because she had no idea what someone was supposed to do then. She'd probably just cry and run around like a mad woman.
"That sounds fun. Traveling like that, I mean." She gleamed when she heard his compliment. "And thanks!"
"The Catalia Glades." She pointed south. "It's that way. It's nice, but everyone seems to be into sparring. If I'm not in the mood to do that, it's kind of boring."

"Is fun.. but sometimes Derp get lonely, not so many live on some glades", Derp remarked, wiping his mouth with a paw. Even he didn't want to seem like a slob, though cleaning up sometimes did slip his mind - there was only so much his simple brain could process at a time. He smiled as he noted he'd made her happy.
"Cata..lia?" he parroted. "Derp not know what 'sparring' is. Girafarig explain?"
He then decided to change his appearance back to normal. Transforming did take a lot of energy, after all.. and he could never maintain his mimicry for long. His features seemed to 'melt' and then reform into the visage of a gelatinous transparent Spica. "Derp from Flyterion. At least Derp thinks that is right name."

Girafarig answered his question. "Sparring is like fighting, but for fun and no one gets hurt." She remembered her brother would convince her to do it and she never remembered winning. He said she had sometimes, but she honestly couldn't recall it.
She wasn't sure what she was seeing next. It looked like he was melting. She honestly thought her vision must've been getting hazy and she might've been going blind. Then, she saw that everything else looked the same as before and it was only him that looked any different. So, her sight was fine. She managed to keep her calm up to point where she now saw a Spica in his place who looked entirely different, except for the face.
After that, she jumped back and screamed, "Aaaah!" Once she got that out of her system, she walked back to where she was and said, "Sorry about that. I wasn't expecting that." There has to be a reasonable explanation for this. "So, you don't look that way all the time? You can change into whatever you want?"

"Derp don't really understand how fighting 'fun'. Derp no like fighting--" he managed to say before she screamed and startled him, making him jump back and yelp as well. He blinked stupidly for a moment, heart pounding.
"Y-yes, Derp can look like almost anything. Transformation never perfect though, Derp don't know what do wrong.." he explained. "This what Derp normally look like, though. Derp no can stay in different form for very long, is tiring."
He gave Girafarig as much of a 'puppy eyes' look as his face could manage, and asked "Girafarig and Derp still friends? Girafarig not mad?" in a pleading manner. Now that he'd finally made a friend he didn't want to mess things up.. but he couldn't really help who or what he was. He really hoped Girafarig was okay with this aspect of him.

Girafarig could tell that she startled him. She felt awful. She didn't mean to. The scream just sneaked out and her body moved on its own.
"That makes sense." No one she knew could use magic for very long. Transforming counts as magic, right? She also wondered if he was talking about doing the faces wrong, but since there wasn't any mirror around, she had no idea how to show him, so she saved that topic for later.
"I'm not mad. I was just surprised. Of course we're still friends. It'd be silly to stop just because I learned something new about you." To be honest, outside of her family, she wasn't close to very many others - she blamed herself, because of her hedgehog dilemma complex and her fair-weather friend-ism - so she was glad to befriend someone else. She'd try her hardest this time.

Derp was clearly relieved. He wanted to have friends. Friends were nice to have, right? That's why most others had so many. No one really liked to be alone. At least not him. He enjoyed company. Company was nice. Talking to himself wasn't nearly as much fun.
"Surprised okay. Surprises sometimes fun. As long as Girafarig not sad or mad, then Derp glad", he said enthusiastically. He thought hard for a moment, to come up with something to talk about. He'd never been a big thinker. "So.. Girafarig do stuff other than.. selling 'maps'..?" he finally asked, genuinely interested in his new friend. He wanted to know her better, even though some of her words were difficult for him to understand.
