Here's a little bit more info on what happened:
The 48 had a mechanism attached to the trackbar that would alter the rear window as the trackbar was adjusted. Trackbar adjustment after pre-qualifying inspection is legal, so no one paid much attention to the team making that adjustment. This extra mechanism raised the rear window on the #48, deflecting more air off of the rear spoiler and reducing drag. They were caught after a NASCAR official noticed that the rear window looked wrong, and the car was tested.
The #96 Hall of Fame racing Cheverlot driven by Terry Labonte, also has it's qualifying time thrown out because of an illegal carburetor. The carburetor, legal at some other tracks, would have given the team better fuel milage. Though the team will be facing fines, John Darby said that they will not be as severe as what Chad Knauss and the 48 will be facing, since fuel milage is not a factor in qualifying, and that this was an unintentional mistake that would not have given them an unfair advantage in qualifying.
Both teams will be staring from the rear of the field in tomorrow's Gatorade Duals.

I think its about time he got suspended. he really has gotten away with alot of things though. ANd I'm not saying he deserved it becasue I don't like Johnson or anything but you, after some of the things he pulled last year, this will teach him that some rules shouldn't be broken

The current feeling in the garages is that there will be a four race suspension, a very hefty fine, and at least 25 driver and owner points will be taken away.
My two cents? Some people have asked if the entire 48 team should be sent home. I think that's a little too harsh. In a situation like this, the team should be punished by the forfeiture of all points gained for the race, as if they never ran. It sends a strong message, but still let's the team run and show off their sponser.
I really need to stop going on Gaia after I get home from work. gonk

I don't think NASCAR will wake anyone up until they send someone home for pulling stunts like that.
