It was a typical, misty evening for Halloween Town, and a large, content swamp beast was lumbering about outside. Oh, there were a few mild hunger pangs in his gut every now and again, but Gargantuan was always hungry. With a grunt, he flopped into the grass and wriggled against it for a moment or two, getting all of the itchy spots that would just be too troublesome to reach with his clawed hands.
Shaking his head hard enough that his jaws rattled, the monster sat upright with a snort, peering about almost absently at his surroundings. You know... if he listened hard enough--yes, there it was again! It sounded like feet, maybe? Someone running!
Excited now, the beast hauled himself to his feet, hunkered down and listening rather eagerly now. Maybe it was a new friend! Or better yet, something yummy to eat...

"YOU STUPID BIRD GET BACK HERE!!!"
Eggy had been nothing but trouble for Danny. At first she had thought it's bouncing was endearing. It was a cute little energetic egg, Danny couldn't help but be reminded of herself. Her parents constantly laughed and said that her pumpkin had bounced around too. It was like they were soulmates!
Then after about a week, it hatched into a baby bird. Danny couldn't have been more elated with the bird. She made it a makeshift nest on her windowsill, and had even looked into buying some sort of bird food at the store.
The problem with Eggy was that it never lost that energy. The bird constantly flitted around her dorm, dashing in front of her Left 4 Live games, stealing her paper for its nest; worst of all were the little "presents" it left all over her room. When Danny got a bird, she was expecting something more like a princess tale- animals coming to do her bidding just because she started singing. Instead she got the hellion bird that didn't want to do anything nice for her.
It didn't help that Danny was a big fan of leaving her window open. Any time the window opened now, the bird would just fly out and she would have to chase it down.
Which is exactly what she was doing at the moment. The bird had ended up making her run all the way to the misty fields- a place Danny hated quite a bit- just to catch up with the stupid thing. Needless to say, Danny had definitely assumed that she could take care of this bird no sweat. The only problem? Danny was probably the worst person for pet caretaking in the world.

Oh, oh! There it was! Something small and fluttering his way! Gargantuan's face stretched into a wide, pleased grin, and if possible, hunched down even more so. His entire body was wriggling from side to slide with glee. Any second now! His ear fins twitched at the sound of shouted words, but there wasn't time to pay attention to that. The birdy was almost here!
Like something straight out of a horror movie, Gargantuan pounced, jaws gaping as wide as they could. The poor bird probably didn't even know what was happening when said jaws snapped shut just as thoroughly as any trap. With one decisive crunch, the monster boy happily swallowed his meal and dropped back on his rump with a happy sound. Of course, after a moment, there were a few feathers that needed to be spat out. They didn't taste so nice.
After a moment or two, he spotted the girl that was dashing through the fields, thumping his tail. He liked new friends! "Hullo." He rumbled at her happily, oblivious to the fact that some people were still disturbed by his eating habits.

Danny just gaped. That ... that thing had just eaten her Eggy. At first she was completely bewildered. "I ... you just ... my ..." was all she could stammer, looking like a complete idiot for a good ten seconds. How had just ... Did he just eat her bird?
Then she was a tad enrage. How dare he eat her minipet! She loved Eggy ... well most of the time. Well no, it was a very small percentage of the time that she was doing the loving, but still! How could he just eat it like it was a booburger or a hot dog? He obviously owed her a new one or something!
Then came realization. She hadn't even liked the bird that much. It caused her nothing but trouble, and was becoming a burden rather than a rewarding life experience. This was actually an incredibly easy solution. Just get someone to eat it. Danny's lips twitched into a smile, which grew wider as she figured this all out. Even when the feathers came out, Danny wasn't even phased. It was a relief to her.
Not to mention that pounce had been pretty cool. Danny wanted to learn how he leapt so high. Danny ran over to Gargantuan and grabbed his thick neck in a makeshift hug (it was hard when he was so big), while she babbled, "Th ... thank you! Thank you so much!" What a good thing it was that he'd been there.

Perhaps it was fortunate that sudden physical contact did not frighten the swamp beast. Though thoroughly bewildered, he seemed quite delighted with the hug, rumbling happily and... well, more or less plucking Danny off the ground so that he could better reciprocate the gesture. He didn't quite understand what she was thanking him for (in fact, he hadn't even realized that the poor minipet had been hers), but G loved making new friends.
"Hiiiiiiiiiiii." G's tail thumped loudly against the ground, and he finally let her go. "Am G. You G's friend now, yes?" They'd hugged and everything! Clearly that already made them good, good friends!
It seemed to be fate, after all... a tasty treat, and then she'd showed up!

As Danny was lifted off the ground, she giggled, happy to be swung around like a loved ragdoll.
Happy at least, until G actually started squeezing in the hug. Danny squealed with the pain. G may have meant well, but he was positively crushing the (in comparison) small fire demonness. It was a wonder that Danny didn't just light him on fire then and there.
When he did finally let her down, Danny stretched herself out, trying not to notice the aching pain in back. Though it hurt quite a bit, Danny was happy to have G as an ally. He was big and tough, definitely something Danny liked in a boil. Anyone she could wrestle with was always fun!
"G? I'm Danny! Nice to meetcha!" She patted G on the head amiably and continued with, "We are friends!" Danny was basically just as ecstatic as G was to make new friends. Especially ones that were so useful? Maybe that wasn't the right word.
She felt the need to further explain herself though, which was never a good idea; even with the people who understood her intellectually, her explanations never made sense. "Yeah! Yeah! Friends! You just ate my bird and so I don't have to close my window or chase it or clean up or look at it all sad like buuuuuh," she paused to smile and mimic gestures. This was just too fateful.

G, unfortunately, misinterpreted the squeal as a good thing, clacking his jaws together with amusement, exhaling loudly from his nostrils. Clearly he had no idea he'd bruised her a bit, by the way his tail was thumping loudly>.
"Daaaannyyyyyyyy." Well that was easy enough to say and remember. The mention of friends had his large jaws dropping open in utter delight, and the a thrum echoed through his chest until his whole body was quivering.
"G like friends! Friends friends friends!" He did pause at the mention of birds, licking his lips thoughtfully because... yes, it had been a very tasty bird. "Oh. G happy to help Danny."
That was what friends did, after all!
