Huang-Fu Lee discovers a horrible truth about his own mother that threatens to overturn everything he's ever worked for. In his desire to become the man he knows he can be, he must not only learn to face the dangers of accepting the truth about his family, but gain the strength to do what it takes to survive.

SETTING:
Southern Lunaria.
The Noble Campsite.

NOBLE:
Shinta Ringo.
Shinta carries the ever so familiar scent of apple blossoms with him wherever he goes, perhaps reminiscent of his older sister. Shinta acts as the wild card in the noble's deck due to his spontaneous, violent outbursts and questionable sanity. He's incredibly strong, and like his sister, harbors the spirit of a creature within him. Although it wasn't anything fancy as a vermillion bird, Shinta possesses the soul of a tiger and a crazed one at that. Shinta has a seething hatred towards Roa.

"Master Ringo."

"Yes."

"I have the information you asked for."

"Give it here."

"Yes, sir."

Gold eyes flicked towards the subordinate. "Get out."

The tent was left empty, the flap fluttering as the man's cape trail whipped out of sight.

Shinta Ringo sat with his legs crossed on a pile of furs, his chin in his hand. Something akin to annoyance was clearly evident on his face as he scanned the sheaf of parchment held in one gloved hand, and with a short snort he tossed them over his shoulder, letting them fall like raindrops to the tent floor. He did not particularly care whether or not the rest of the men saw them, nor did he care what they might say when they did.

He glanced at the door to the tent, a scowl on his face. Nearly two months preparing for this, and that idiot Tenjou still had not decided to make a move. Instead, he lay in wait, biding his time.

Waiting for WHAT, exactly, Shinta thought angrily, shoving the dark hide of something furry and black to the side, resisting the urge to throw it at the tent wall. There's nothing to wait for! Acting now is more important than studying the Legions. Like they can even do anything.

The flash of a face whipped through his mind, cocky and smirking, and Shinta let out a low hiss of hatred, closing his eyes briefly.

One day I'll wipe that damn smug expression from your face.

"My Lord,"

The subordinate had returned. Shinta glared at him. "What now?" he snapped loudly, clearly displeased with the interruption, and the man stammered out his message.

"T-there's someone here. Someone to see you."

The Noble looked faintly bemused.

"I think he's a Legionnaire."

After the battle with Kiran, one that had stopped him from seeing Ringo personally, and being caught up in two missions with two very powerful Nobles, Huang had done it. He forgot about his alliance and left his family, some called him crazy, some called him delusioned but he knew. The only chance of him getting to Ringo, the man that would be the start of it all was to confront him head on on his own turf. No matter stalking his battles or attempting to ambush him..

He had slipped through the noble camps until he could smell the fear and apple mixed scent that Ringo seemed to carry around him. Huang thought it was odd, fear and apple mixed together but from the Noble recruits he had encountered with Kiran, He knew just what a terror the young noble captain was, though the apple scent didn't make sense, he only knew of one other that carried that scent and she was the Suzaku guardian of the Empire.

And Young terror was just the man that his mother, Chi would find herself attracted to. Had his father in the past not been exactly like Ringo but Legion? Chi came from a Legion family herself, both of them had been a match made in heaven. Chi was a dominate powerful woman who had blossomed the assassin organization Lee's Legions, credited to her genius in gaining and passing on information. His father had been the strength to her knowledge, a still active Captain of the Empire's army, he had nobles that feared his name still.

But Father had not been the same after the last of his children, Huang had seen the man's age catch up to him and he was slowly becoming a man who has seen too many wars, too many lives. Huang and Xiao had talked intensively of it for the past weeks, as it was soon time for Xiao to take the control over the family. And while they planned what they had always been taught to know, Chi, their mother....the one who strung the strings of fate for her children and husband had severed her ties with her own family. She had defected, betrayed them to the nobles and planned their deaths even as Huang came to the Nobles Base camp.

Why she had done it? Huang had only rumor's to go off, but it was for a younger Captain, one that filled her devious mind to the brim with plots of death and betrayal. She had found herself in bed with another man who was plotting the death of the Lee's Legions together. Huang fist clenched more so as he circled around the small camp that was farther off then the other nobles. While he meant to confront Ringo, He wouldn't go gallantly through a noble camp for all of them to see. That would be a fatal mistake after all, and Huang hadn't come here to die. he came for answers and if it came down to it, killing Ringo before moving on to his mother. His mission this time was to protect his family, even if it was against one of their own. Slipping through the shadows of the tents, he watched a guard for a few moments, once the man's back turned, he slipped up to him and pressed the thin needles, his signature weapon to the soft flesh of the man's neck. Small indents were shown by the pressure where the needles would pierce if Huang thought it would be needed so.

"Tell your Captain Ringo that a Legionnaire has come to visit. If you scream..." Huang could almost see the look in the man's eye's, his voice was barely a whisper as he remained hidden in the shadows, "I will do far worst then your Captain could ever do." Huang spat as he pushed the man away and watched as he clambered into the tent. He needed to breathe, there was no pointing in getting hot headed this early in his game.

He just waited for the main character to come out before all Hell broke loose.

A Legionnaire?

Shinta turned an icy glare on the man standing in front of him, some lower officer whose name he would not deign to remember. There was no use in recalling the surnames of those he didn't care about, after all. And rarely was he bothered in keeping up with who was who unless it specifically pertained to him.

He pushed back the dark hair that fell in front of his face. "What use does a Legion have with the Noble camp?" Shinta spat out, more to himself than to the man, who was visibly trembling, clearly nervous that his superior would throw one of his infamous fits of anger. But he was ignored, Shinta musing silently to himself.

A Legion. Like - that man.

He did not care to think of him. It made his nerves stand on end, his head spin with anger, his chest tight with the loathing that threatened to consume him, overtake every fiber of his being. Thinking of that man was certainly enough for Shinta to pick up the bottle of ink beside him and throw it viciously at the wall of the tent. To his utter disgust, it didn't smash - the canvas was too pliable - and simply fell uselessly to the floor.

Shinta let out a roar of irritation, and the man - who he had completely forgotten about - took a step back, eyes wide with fear.

If the man waiting for him was a Legionnaire like him, then no good could come of his desire to meet with Shinta, who leaned back into his furs and scowled, the lines etched deeply into his forehead. He let out a low growl, almost feral sounding in nature as he considered his options.

"Tell the scum to enter my tent," he snapped finally, after a moment's contemplation. "And get out."

The man did not need telling twice.

Huang didn't have to wait long for the explosive man to speak so damn loudly, one of the father camps members looked over. Had Huang not been ducking in the shadows away from the view of anyone else, Shinta's anger would've given him away. He internally cringed as the man started out loud and got louder as he talked to the poor man who went in there. Huang would've felt bed if the man hadn't been a noble. Besides, better they get the hot headed captain in the nobles then over in the Legions.

He jumped when the Wall of the tent pushed outwards by either the man falling or something hit up against it. Just as it was pushed out suddenly, the object slid to the ground and Huang could hear no more activity.

Shuffling his feet like a eager kid, he waited and waited before he heard the lines he wanted to. The raging Captain had just beckoned him in. No sooner had the thought past through his head when the bumbling solider came out, look at Huang with fear riddled eyes. What a weakling, Huang wouldn't break under any pressure, not even that of a superior Captian like this man did. He looked like he needed to go change his pants, shaking like that.

"Well?"
Huang pointed the needles at the man when he stuttered a reply.

"Captain Ringo will see you now Legion." the man had a moment's of confidence at trying to insult the fact that Huang was a legion but Huang's needles were pointed back at him. Nodding his head stiffly at the other man, he started to slowly step to the Tent. Realizing something, he turned around before whispering in the man's ear. "If you go to get help, I will kill your captain, and then I will kill you. I know your face solider, and that's all I need to remember to kill someone." Huang let the threat hang before confidently walking into the Captain's tent. He scanned the room first for traps before looking at the younger Captain. He seemed only a little bit older then Huang himself and had his lip curling in a sneer.

His once stoic face now burned with hate as he looked at the other man. "Shinta Ringo of the Nobles." Huang didn't bow in respect, for there was no respect from a Legion to a Noble. "Besides seeing you from afar, I didn't think this was the reason why my mother would defect to your side." He gestured to the whole of Ringo before smiling, "I am interested in something Dear Captain, I have a few questions I need answered and if you are so inclined..." Huang brought forth his needles, tapping them on his leg as a silent threat, "You'd be the man I need to answer them."

The young man who entered his tent was just that - young. Shinta gave him an appraising sort of look, his eyes taking in the lithe, mildly muscular figure, the look of stony anger that made his eyes blaze. If he had been a Noble, Shinta might have been impressed by his bravado. As it was, he merely gave a snort of disgust, shaking his head.

A kid. I've been sought out by a kid.

Whoever this Legionnaire was, he didn't bow, and Shinta did not even demonstrate an ounce of welcoming by offering a seat or standing. Instead he stared up at the young man, eyes narrowing the longer he spoke.

"Call me 'dear' again, and you'll find your tongue on the ground beside your head," he snarled, his temper flaring. "You seem to not know your place, child."

The golden eyes flickered towards the needles with a clear expression of disinterest. "Put those away," Shinta said calmly. "I could have your throat slit before you even lifted your hand."

Reaching his arm out to the side, he picked up a mug that sat nearby, half filled with mead. Shinta took a swallow, then set it down, resting his head back against his hand, his elbow propped up on his knee as he regarded the young Legionnaire. He had, of course, no idea what the foolish boy was going on about, but he was not going to be subjected to some sort of pathetic attempt at being brave. Whatever the case was, Shinta was not impressed.

I wonder if this is that man's doing, he thought, his hair falling back into his face as he gave the young man a scrutinizing stare. It would be so like him to send me a mere child as an attempt at intimidating me. He is not intelligent enough to send someone truly threatening; this is probably what the rest of his "army" looks like.

He gave another snort, neither voicing his opinions nor giving the Legionnaire any indication that he was even in the room. A tiny shake of his head, and the golden eyes flashed with a hatred so deep it had melted into his bones, into his very soul.

I will kill that man.

"I have no desire to sit and listen to your pathetic ramblings," Shinta said, waving a hand irritatedly. The scent of apples blossomed in the air as a small breeze sifted through the crack the tent flap made, the air as tense as a knife inside. Shinta nearly looked bored with his quarry. "Go find some other Noble who cares about your mummy. I will let you live if you just get out of my tent now and leave me in peace."

Huang eye's widen as he thought of a counter plan to the one he was now doing. Obviously he had stepped on toes coming in and looked around, If he wanted information, there was no point in threatening the man, who was obviously much stronger then himself. Huang cringed inwardly at first before quickly thinking of a more drastic plan. Information. That's what this as about.

"Forgive me for the rudeness Noble Captain."
Huang bowed his head this time, "I am not accustomed to handling social situation very well as what I do....is fight." Huang paled at the mention of leaving before looking back at the captain.

"I have question that can only be answered by you, and I think, Information that can benefit you as well."
Huang wasn't entirely sure that was true but, If Ringo knew anything about his mother personally, he'd want to hear most of the information from a relative that lived with her right?

He put the needles on the ground before bowing again, "I forget I am in the presence of one of the Empires greatest enemies, foolish to assume that because I am angry, I would be the stronger of us." Huang bowed his head again and grit his teeth.

"Before I leave Captain, Have you heard of a Woman guised in your camp by the name of Chi Lee?" Huang looked at Ringo, hopefully that would gain soe favor.

He'd actually made the kid apologize. How surprising, Shinta thought, though his face betrayed none of these thoughts, his expression still as stony as ever. I had thought with such a show of "bravado" that he would rather die than succumb to the false niceties necessary for putting on a show to a Noble.

How weak.

"What do you want?" Shinta snapped, already tired of the song and dance. "I grow weary of your voice."

Dark eyebrows rose only slightly at the mention of a question "only he could answer," barely a flicker of emotion, but other than that, there was no sign of Shinta's vague irritation. He had heard all of this before; Legionnaires attempting to kill him by claiming they had some other reason for being there. It was all so very like that stupid man to send such ignorant and foolish young men to get to him. Shinta gave a derisive snort, the sound somewhat like a feral dog growling his displeasure, and turned his head to the side, not wishing to look at the disgusting Legionnaire any longer. He could tell from the tone of his voice that he did not, in fact, feel any sort of sorrow or remorse for his earlier actions; the confidence was much more believable than the sickening apologies.

Chi Lee. The name was enough to draw Shinta's attentions away from the walls of his tent, turning a golden eyed gaze towards the young man in front of him, his face a mask of irritation - but there was a faint flicker of recognition in his eyes.

I know that name.

"And what if I do?" he asked. "If she is a Legion member, than I care not for the maggots that cross my path. I cannot promise that I have heard the name, nor can I say if I have. My business is my own, and I feel no inclination nor obligation to tell you what I know.

"Especially," Shinta snarled, his voice a low hiss of warning. " - to a member of the Legion."

He said the word as if it tasted foul, the loathing for the opposite faction unmistakable in his rough voice. Slanting a gaze towards the young Legion, Shinta scowled, waving a hand in an obviously dismissive fashion.

"Begone with you. I do not wish to see the face of some Legion boy besmirching my quarters."

And I grow weary of your childish behavior. Huang bit his tongue from saying that out loud before looking away, it was tiring to be civil to the enemy and one that was so violate such as Ringo. How was it this man had a army to follow him? Huang would've probably defected just as a trainee and moved to Legion just to not deal with this crazy guy.

He didn't apologize again and instead shrugged. "I can see it in your eyes Captain, Recognition at the sound of her name alone." Huang felt the dread build in him before he tapped his leg. Shinta was giving him a stare of boredom and dismissal, Should Huang return the favor? He was to proud to beg on his knees for the information and would not do it if he didn't have to.

"She's not just a Legion, Captain. She is the wife of the founder of Lee's Legions, A assassination group designed solely to annihilate Noble leaders." Huang raised an eyebrow at Shinta before shrugging again, "I am only one of her many assassin's, funny that I could get to your camp so easily, It makes me wonder what she is doing around your camps Captain Ringo." He smiled again before heading to the tent flap, "Especially since it was you that I had to seek out to find her. My mother is a witty creature, If she has snuck into your camp successfully, If she has gained your trust, It would only be a matter of time before she uses that trust against you. In the form of a dagger to your back." Huang blinked, "Unless she is here for another reason." Huang moved again to make his way out, unless Ringo had something to say about his life being threatened not by Huang but by the woman who had come to make her life with the nobles. He just needed confirmation from the Captain that Chi had been here, and possibly for him to tell him that she had defected because if so, It wouldn't be Ringo she would let her wrath out on, It would be his family.

The dagger that whistled through the air did not hit the target that he wanted to hit, but instead veered sideways purposefully, embedding itself into the canvas just beside the Legionnaire's head, narrowly missing.

Shinta had not missed.

"You are too proud, Legion," he said, his head still resting against one of his hands, the other of which was now resting against his leg. "You speak too much, and you think too much. You understand nothing of the way things work, which I suppose is why you have let yourself become aligned with such a weak and foolish faction.

"I know of the woman of whom you speak."

The words were spoken callously, an ugly expression on the Noble Captain's face, angry, yet defiantly smug that he had what this Legion brat wanted. He almost had not revealed the information; he could have let the idiot walk out, but he had seen the flash of uncertainty in those dark eyes, seen the horror rising.

"She has been here," Shinta went on. "And what of it to you? Are you so blinded by your love of a leader who has long since lost his ability to rule that you cannot see what is right in front of your eyes? This is why the Legions will not weak; because they understand nothing and send children into battle, expecting that they will win on sheer principle."

A derisive snort escaped his lips. Shinta Ringo looked away, his eyes resting against the brown canvas wall of the tent. "You are pathetic."

His gaze flickered back to meet the Lee boy, golden fire within them. "Your mother is an intelligent woman," he said. "She has chosen to fight for a side which honors that intelligence. If you cannot agree with that, that is your own downfall."

"And if I trusted anyone, I would have had a dagger in my back long before now. I trust no one but myself, and your ignorance is delicious. Now get out, before I have you killed."

Huang cringed as he felt the split air of the dagger. Though his reaction time was on par with any true assassin captain, it was nothing compared to the dagger that was imbedded in the canvas by him. His eyes darted back to the Captain before internally cheering.

He didn't argue with the Noble as spoke. Tired of the game they played. If Shinta knew how proud he was, he found it funny that he spoke of it. Pride in Legions goal, Huang would gladly take that over Nobles bloodshed. Wasn't it true, just how bad Nobles power was, look at who their captain was.

Though, pride disappeared in a second as he paled. Chi had been here, Ringo knew it all. Oh Goddess. He listened as the horror sank into his body, Fear, and hurt and rage all bubbled inside him. He was too stunned to speak to Shinta as he insulted their empire. No he was too shocked by the news of his mother to even care.

He looked back at Shinta now, a new determination in his face masked by horror and fear. He had plans, he needed to leave. The news was leaving hiim shaken, disturbed. He needed council of his family, he needed to leave. Once Shinta was done, Huang did just as the man ordered.

He left.

and He started to prepare.

The war had been brought to his home and whether Shinta's words came true or not, Whether or not the Empire remained strong in the country wasn't his problem now. No, he would n** the bud in its bloom of betrayal. Chi Lee and her lover...they would die before she ever went through her betrayal. Ringo, whether he knew it or not, had already started the cycle for Huang.
