Unnaturally high in spirit after receiving his Blessing for his self-proclaimed Quest, Hero was on the rise and looking for those that required his particular abilities. It had been days, and he hadn't seen a single kimeti! This made it difficult to help them...... But he kept trudging through the muddy waters. He would find someone, he was sure.

Doom stared. The blustering idiot not only crashed her bathing routine, but kept on trudging forward without a care in the world. First, her floating flowers (for ambiance and fragrance) were dislodged by the slight water disturbances, then the offending ripples gained intensity as he shortened the distance between them, sloshing water into her nostrils. She had been in the very exact spot long enough for the mud to settle to the ground, but here he was, kicking it all up again. Rising to her full height, she paid no heed to the dried on mud mask she had on her face.
“Hey, ********. This is my area. Go away.” Perhaps she wasn’t as clear as she would have liked, the layer of mud warbling her otherwise perfect enunciation. Damn, the flowers kept on drifting further and further away.

Hero was rudely shaken from his reverie. He turned quickly and took the scene now before him in stride.
He saw a doe, her face covered in mud, and flowers drifting away. She was wet, and he failed to see that there was a pretty good lack of mud on her beautiful fur. The buck was careful when he took a slow step forward - he didn't want to lead her on to what he would do next.....
With a cry of announcement, he lept forward and to her side crouched over a bit. "Do not do it! My dear, you are much to beautiful and have too much to live for! Don't let the swamp take you away like the flowers so delicately floating off. I will save you, and help you in any way you need."
"I am Hero, do not fear!"

Idiot. Except in her mind, Doom stretched it out to three syllables. And for the first time that day, not ever, she dug her heels deeper into the soft ground, wishing she had claws to shred the red buck's back. She praised herself for showing restraint. After all, she did not flinch or react when the buck, Hero, ha! she snorted, barreled to her side.
She was too outraged to be mollified at being caught in such a shoddy state. Was that a blush creeping up her face. Doom couldn't care less about conveniences, etiquette and social propriety, but she was fastidious with her grooming. She was simply too beautiful to have dry skin and matted hair. Heh, she heard the compliment in his speech. But oh my MotherFather! She wanted to bang her head against a rock. She recoiled. That was definitely the wrong thought process right there. She should be wanting to bash his head organs out, not hers.
"I don't need any help, numbskull. Where do you even get off?" ooof, due to the sudden trajectory of Hero, some dislodged mud slid down into her eye.

"Why, because Beautiful," Hero smiled charmingly since she did not give her name, "you look as if you are covered in the mud from your failed attempt." As the mud fell, he dropped his head so he could still look into her eyes. "For one that has so much going for her, you sure don't seem like the type to attempt to kill herself."
Ok, so he had no idea what was going on - but he didn't know that.

Doom had a one track mind. When she set her sights on something, it is downright hard to deter her. She wanted to just relax in peace and quiet. But now she desired to to beat that silly smile off of his face.
"What, pray tell, did I fail at doing exactly?" She felt like they were having two conversations. OK, she wasn't talking but she had no idea what he meant.
She made way to menacingly swap his side but a red "log" intersected them. This log had yellow marks on it. Wait a second was it a....

"Well, you were trying to-" but Hero was interrupted as his eye caught a rather familiar-looking creature. Except for the thick hide and yellow teeth, it looked similar to him... wait... yellow TEETH!?
Without another thought, he threw himself over the now-surprised caiman who was just sunbathing as the pretty doe was. The buck didn't know this at the time, but all he knew was that he needed to protect this doe from harm, even if she was previously trying to end her life - maybe she had a change in heart!
"Back, back!" With hooves and his naturally thick skull, Hero struggled to push the dark caiman back - for by the time he saw those teeth he knew what it was that lurked in these water. "You cannot have her for you meal."
Slightly aghast and mostly in shock, the red caiman allowed itself to be driven away. Listening to the crazy buck's words, it couldn't help but lift a tooth-filled grin in his general direction.

The caiman had the right idea. It was time to jet. Doom ambled easily further into the water after the caiman, but with the sole intention of getting away from that... oh ********, was it so hard to believe Hero was a kimeti? That line needed to end with him. Not a bad idea really. She tucked away that goal for another day. For the good of the swamp, of course. And hey, as the distance between them increased, her previous good mood started slowly trickling back.

Hero didn't even notice that the pretty doe was getting further away from his as he chased away the caiman with cries of success and boldness. So, once he felt that the caiman was far enough away, the buck looked back...and could not find the doe in sight!
Instead of being dismayed, this made his extremely happy - he had succeeded and save the doe from this monstrous creature!
Hero strutted away, the caiman completely forgotten... so he did not notice that it was following him.
