A large scaled beast laid in wait, perched high above the planes on a cliff side. His cyan hooves grinding pebbles into dust as he allowed his bright eyes to scan the grass as it rolled like waves in the mid day breeze. The monster's tail curled around him, tucked close to keep himself feeling secured. Even when tucked tight his wings were rather noticeable, bungling out with an itch to stretch and glide down. Not yet though, no definitely not yet. He had to wait for the perfect victim to come strolling along. Somebody he could really sink his razor sharp teeth into and shiver with pleasure when he listened to them scream for mercy. The mere thought of playing with his snack got his tail twitching about like a cat.

A rustle in the grass caused his senses to hone in on the cause, and when he came to realize that it was simply a fox he sighed with disappointment. Foxes were to tiny of a morsel for him to enjoy. He wasn't particularly hungry in this moment, but he was starved of entertainment. A tiny fox such as this would all but amuse him for two minutes before Darian put the creature out of its misery. He needed large game to hunt and taunt. Something he could really enjoy. So he continued to scan the lands, wait, snarl at every tiny creature that drew attention to itself. Patients is a virtue but Darian wasn't very virtuous to begin with.

It had been a long morning for the UnderGround. For the six that had ventured out it had been bad, for the ones who had been left waiting and guarding the hideout it had probably been worse. What should have been a standard snatch and grab procedure had gone horribly awry. Someone had tipped off the humans that they were coming and the target had been moved. After several long hours of searching Lorenna had finally called off the search claiming it to be pointless to continue on with no leads to go off of. Carmine had reluctantly consented and the four mares and two birds started for home. Slipsand, Beryl and Sio had been kept waiting long enough.

"It's just not riiiight!" Carmine whined her wings drooping at her sides leaving the tips to drag along the ground. "How'd they even know we were comin' huh? We actually kept quiet bout it this time."

It was not normally in Carmine's nature to remain silent about her targets. She liked to brag to people about what she was going to take then show it off after obtaining it. After heists started going bad Wolf and Lorenna had advised their boss to still her mouth suspecting word was getting back to the humans that way. Evidently they were wrong.

"I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye." Lorenna offered her bright eyes looking unusually dark and murderous. She had always been relatively emotionally cold but this was a new expression even for her.

"More?" Wolf tilted her head to peer at the second's face. As clueless as she could be concerning emotions she had been trained and could recognize someone spoiling for a fight. This really was serious if Lorenna was getting involved.

"A spy?" the kalona female offered baring her teeth. She would happily dispose of a spy.

As Lorenna nodded her head in the positive Carmine growled and beat her wings agitatedly. The flutter mare sighed watching the display. She understood that in many ways this was all a game for Carmine and Carmine had never been fond of losing. She opened her mouth to say something but the black winged mare cut her off.

"I need t'blow off steam. I'll catch up." She didn't wait for permission before racing off through the thinning trees to get out to the plains. she didn't need permission. The UnderGround was hers. She was their boss and their queen and what she said was law.

Wolf made to follow her, she was Carmine's personal body guard after all, but was stopped by the flutter mare. "She needs time alone." She muttered watching the mare's retreating back. She needed to be alone but Lorenna was not fool enough to really leave her alone. If there was a spy then there was likely bigger trouble coming there way. Her eyes wandered over to the two crows they kept and landed on the smaller of the two. "Khaa, follow her. If anything happens report back to us immediately. Understand?"

"Yes!" The skull capped crow nodded quickly and took to the air before the word was fully formed. In the air he caught up to Carmine quickly and was able to follow her into the plains discretely. From below he looked precisely like any other dumb bird, so long as he stayed aloft Carmine would never know it was him. To keep up appearances he opened his beak periodically. "Khaa khaa khaa." He would say as though he were a lonely bird calling to friends long lost.

The first time Khaa said anything Carmine looked up to see what was there. After determining it to be nothing she focused her attention back to the ground beneath her hooves as she tore it up racing ahead. Once she was tired of that she would give the air the same treatment until she was too worn out to move. Her legs were still working though so it would be a little longer.

Darian's scaled tail swept the rocky surface of his hideout, impatiently eying the swaying grass for anything out of place. A faint caw in the distance tore his attention from the earth and scanned the skies for where the sound originated. When he saw a speck of black drifting across the open blue air he brushed it off. Nothing of importance. Oh, but what was this? Just as he lowered his blue orbs back down to the ground something came galloping onto his scene. A fast paced critter painted pink and black was making it's way through the tall grass. "Hmmm," the kalona mix hummed to himself with curiosity. Once he made sure that whoever this soquili was was in fact female and significantly smaller than he the beastly giant of a soquili spread his feathered leather wings, giving them a nice stretch before getting to his feet.

Dare had been lounging but now was the time for his game. He took a leap off of the high cliff and glided down towards his target, picking up speed as he neared Carmine. With one heavy flap of his wings he kicked up a gust in her direction and landed right in the mare's path. "You seem to be in a rush..." he hissed out in a malicious voice. Surely, the grin on his lips gave off unsettling vibes. He wasn't aware of the girl's rank or her friends. In Dare's eyes he could only see a helpless female out for a mid day jog. "Why don't you relax... you'll be staying a while after all..." he let his words trail off in eerie pauses as he slyly began to circle the petite looking mare. Well, she was petite whilst standing beside him.

The small crow squawked and reeled to the side feathers puffing out as the winged beast dove right for Carmine. The noise drew the mare's attention skyward just in time to see the monster before dust scattered under his wing beats.

Carmine's wings rushed out automatically as she came to a skidding halt. She was unsure if it was a balance thing or just a conditioned reflex to protect herself somewhat. Either way Carmine couldn't imagine that she looked terribly attractive with her wings hovering around her sides and her mane flung out in front of her face.

"Ya outta be more careful, baby." She said trying to come across as playful as she straightened herself up. She tossed her mane back and out of her eyes and tucked her wings at her side before eying the stallion suspiciously. Why was he circling her like that? Did he think he was a shark? Predator, definitely. Shark, no, no fins. "I'm not really in a rush though." She offered flashing her trademark cheeky and flirtatious smile. "And since I'm so relaxed already why doncha tell me what I'll be stickin around for, honey. Got something fun in mind?"

Darian gave an all to pleased grin as Carmine skidded to a stop. Such a proper response to his presence. He couldn't even imagine what horrors would have unfolded if the mare ignored his miraculous appearance. The manner in which she halted herself was quite amusing as well. This little mare could be well worth playing with. As she flung her mane out of her eyes he leaned in closer to inspect her, not a drop of fear in her blood. He'd have to fix that. So he circled her. Yes, like a shark, waiting for his ideal moment to strike or startle the unfortunate mare.

Something about this damsel put him in distress rather than the other way around, like he preferred. Was she trying to be coy with him? What was all this talk about babies and that haunting way she kept flashing her smile. "Fun indeed... though, I'd imagine it not to be so enjoyable for you, my snack..." his jagged teeth clenched together as he leaned in to inhal a deep scent of her mane. He had to restrain himself from taking a chunk out of the girl's neck.

The words 'oh s**t' flashed briefly through her mind as he called her a snack. It wasn't the first time she had been compared to food, far from it in fact, but it was definitely the first time someone had actually meant it. This guy was a kalona, at least in part, that made him a predator. She'd dealt with kalona daily for a good long while but this was not Othelia nor was it Xelloss. This guy actually seemed serious about eating. Which left the question of, why wasn't he?

She smirked. This was a game for him. No question about it. That made it a game she was happy to play.

"That's not nice, baby~" She teased bringing a wing up to brush him away. "If you're gonna be havin' fun with me it really oughta go both ways." She kind of wished she hadn't just run off without at least Wolf right now.

Khaa did not like how this was looking. Carmine seemed like her usual self but, young as he may be, he wasn't stupid. He could see that things were serious and that brought him to land on the ground to hide in the grasses and watch quietly. Should he go get the others? But what if something happened while he was away? That was no good.

There was something not quite right about this female. She reeked of self confidence and courage. Two things he certainly didn't enjoy playing with. As soon as little miss thing brushed her fragile wing against he he was already brewing wicked thoughts of snapping it. It'd be so simple to do, much like a toothpick. Though, that would limit his torture of the girl. He had always wanted to take some poor pathetic creature to the top of his beloved cliff and watch them fall to their death.

"You're a feisty one, aren't you?" he hissed through jagged teeth as he came to a halt in front of her. Enough circling for now. He had gotten the jist of the girl. Small, piratically defenseless, and nothing to back up that sleazy attitude of hers. "If I'm understanding correctly... the sort of fun you're looking for can be serviced to you back at my secluded get away. All you gotta do is keep up with me, my snack," his eyes gave a devilish glint of satisfaction as he turned his back. "I'll escort you," he offered before trotting off before extending his enormous wing span and pushing his weight off the ground. He hoved for a moment, wings kicking up gusts of dirt. "Coming?" he asked curiously.

Oh she was a feisty one alright. Feisty, hot-tempered, maybe more reckless than any creature had a right being but she wasn't stupid. Carmine was a thief and as a thief she could smell a trap as easily as a human could smell a storm. "Sorry, baby, but I'm not the type to be 'serviced'." She chided watching him in the air through squinted eyes. Of all the irritating things she had endured to day having her own personal dust storm was probably the worst.

"I think I'll stay right where I am and find someone who doesn't think of it as 'servicing'." She smiled at him, sassy as ever. Servicing had such a negative connotation out of all the various terms she'd encountered over the years. It made it sound like it was something that had to be done like it was a chore or something. "Toodles~"

With a casual toss of her head and a dismissive flip of her tail she trotted off back towards the woods stopping several yards away upon noticing a small white capped crow. "Khaa? What are you doing here?" Not stupid but perhaps a bit dense.

Khaa shuffled about anxiously upon his discovery. "Lorenna wanted to make sure you were safe." He answered quietly ruffling his feathers. "This isn't safe..." He eyed the blue beast darkly. By nature he was not a brave bird but he had always been ruled by a strong sense of duty and decency. A quiet voice that few bothered to listen to.
