Following in Waikiki's pawprints with a giddy giggle, Caely occasionally swatted and pounced at his flicking tail. Rolling across the grass when she missed and springing back to her paws to catch up with her mate. She felt like a cub again, springing about as the excitement of today's outing made it nearly impossible to walk naturally, let alone act her age. Granted, it wasn't as if she was a stuffy old lady just yet so her playful demeanor couldn't be called entirely uncalled for. However, she probably should have been focusing on getting ready to be taught and in turn hopefully learn a new skill!
Because today Wai was taking her fishing!
This was only Cae's second attempt at hunting in the water, the first being with a giraffe colored lioness named Berj, but it was still something that she hadn't yet mastered. For heaven sake, she really wasn't very good at all! The last time she hadn't caught anything but a cold from splashing around in the river uselessly. Truthfully, Caely could only hope that she wouldn't make as much of a fool of herself in front of her hubby as she had with Berj. Either way she was looking forward to watching the sandy colored lion in his element. He had certainly alluded to being a far more competent hunter in the water than he was on land so the idea of seeing her beloved in action was really a thrilling scene. One the lioness couldn't wait to witness and cause for much of her light hearted enthusiasm.

He made sure to flick his tail side to side, keeping it just out of her reach as she tried pouncing on it. He smiled, with a look back at her. When she missed his tail and fell into the grass he chuckled, and shook his head. That was his Caely. An excited, loving, sweethearted, shy lioness he had fallen for pretty much at first sight.
He had promised her fishing lessons today. He hoped he didn't screw it up, as he didn't want to do the one thing he knew how to do, wrong! He was determined to at least catch one fish. That would help him and his cause.
"Are you excited?" He asked, watching the happiness on her face as she ran up to him to walk at his side. He could just see the joy on her face and it made him happy. Happiness was the key to life, and so far they had that key.

Tilting her jaw to gaze up at Wai when she was finally at his shoulder, extending her stride just enough to keep pace with him, she couldn't help but beam at him. Mostly because of the cheerful expression he wore--which of course was due to her own jubilant demeanor this afternoon. Creating an endless loop, not that either one seemed to be complaining.
Yup! She chirped in response to his question eagerly before elaborating. Before I came to the Ela nobody had ever tried to teach me how to fish! I've never even eaten one before. Do they taste good?
Caely could only imagine what their slippery foe might taste like. Were they soft and squishy? Or would it be tough and crunchy? Either way, she hoped they caught a lot of them!

He wasn't even aware she had never had a fish in her life. His jaw dropped in mock horror and he shook his head. "Dudette! You haven't lived, girl!"
He said with a smile on his face. He was all the more sure he was going to grab her a fish. Maybe she would even like it as much as he did.
"You know if you had told me before, we would have done this a long time ago, my bride."He said with a chuckle, and then thought about her question for a moment.
"Of course they're good. I don't make it a habit to eat nasty things. I promise." He winked.

I.. I haven't? There was an honest sort of concern in her expression as Caely gazed up at him, surprised by the response. Even though she realized Wai was teasing, it certainly made her wonder all the more about what she was getting herself into. Averting her gaze a bit guiltily at the mention of not having thought of this idea sooner. W-well.. it never really.. came up! And I dunno.. would you have agreed to marry me if you knew I couldn't fish?
It was true that the fact was something she had tried to hide for fear that he might be turned off by her incompetence. However, now that they were together and she was certain there was no escaping her affection it was a bit easier to admit that she had little to no fishing experience. Some might have seen it as a dishonest act, but Caelyndei hadn't lied about it, only avoided the subject. Trying to smooth over the awkwardness she felt, I-I... I'm excited to taste my first fish though! I want to learn how to fish.. so we can teach our cubs.. together.

"I would have married you if you had been blind, deaf, or limbless, my dear. You had me at hello." He said, and winked at her again and smiled as he saw the river come into view. He looked down at her, nudging her oh so gently with his muzzle. The touch of a lover.
"Our cubs will be great fishers, and they will stock the pride up on such a delightful bounty. But first my dear.. I must teach you."
He said, and ran to the river bank, stopping before he would actually fall in. Falling in would not be good for the hunters if they actually planned on -catching- anything.

Blushing with pleasure at the confessed adoration of her husband, Caely couldn't help but giggle at the absurdity of his words. Blind, deaf or limbless? Some how she doubted their conversation that first day would have gone quite the same way if she had been any one of those things, but she was relieved that things had turned out in her favor. Purring beneath the nudge, her muzzle stretched up towards the gesture to lick his nose endearingly. Okay.. I'm ready!
With a determined nod and a puckered expression, the slender lioness took up the blonde's stride, bounding after him towards the edge of the river and carefully making sure to stop just a few paws width behind Wai. Tilting her head with intrigue almost breathless with excitement, S-soo? What do we do first?!

He licked her cheek, looking at her with adoration before he put a paw to his maw to shhh her voice. Stepping out into the water one paw at a time. His movements were slow, and gentle. He was being meticulous, focused. He had to feel the fish making waves around his legs and that he knew where they were.
"Okay, now come on. Slowly, babe. Don't move too fast. We want them to be curious, not cautious." He said, looking at her with a grin. He had to hide the excited look he got about getting her in the water, and seeing her soaking wet, but he did it rather well.

Whoops! Biting her lower lip beneath the paw that sought to muffle her enthusiasm, Cae offered her beloved an apologetic glance with only the use of those jade hues. Holding her breath she watched quiveringly as he began to wade through the water. Not so much stepping into the river as causing to part around his legs as he glided smoothly away from shore. Immediately she was able to see a side of Waikiki that had never been witnessed, not by her.. perhaps not by anyone. It made her want to ask how many girls he'd taken fishing, to show off his prowess and win their heart--if only for the night. Of course, then again, part of her didn't want to know.
Curious? You mean fish don't run away when they see you coming like land animals do? Her voice was barely above a whisper as she stepped carefully across the bank, trying to enter the water as easily as Wai had, to no avail. No matter how slow she tried to step, her every action seemed to create an aura of wide ripples that broke the rolling surface of the river.

Truth was he had never taken another fishing with him. He had been rather happy making it something he did in his alone time, away from any girlfriend he may have had at the time. Not that he really even had that many.. He hadn't been the type to look for girlfriends. He had been looking for what he found, a wife, and lover. Someone to stick around.
He watched as she stepped slowly in, and the water parted every which way. It was definitely a skill that had to be learned, but she would. He smiled at her, happy she was even attempting.
"If you're slow, and still once you get in the water, they can't help themselves." He said with a grin.
His eyes took on the predatory gaze and he stared out at the fish that swam around his paws as if they were coral. In one swift move, the lions maw was in the water, submersed and he pulled out a wiggling grey fish. It flailed in his jaws, and he bit down harder.

Naturally feeling a little frustrated that she attempted to move in the same fashion as Wai and yet had completely different results, the earthy colored lioness fell still. Nearly up to her chest in the water her nose practically touched the wetness as she peered through the murky window to the wildlife below the surface. How could he even see enough to know where the fish was to grab it? Ever determined, Caelyndei tried to pay attention to the water, watching for flecks of silver as they whipped by around her paws, but her attention kept drifting to Wai. An awed expression on her maw as she watched the concentration upon his features. The predatory way his eyes focused.
In fact, Caely was watching her mate so intently that she startled when his head disappeared beneath the water and recoiled--rather miraculously--with a writhing, lively fish! So apparently, it really was possible! Unable to help herself, she was splashing over to him in awkward bounds that caused waves to surge over her back. Cae hadn't even attempted to catch a fish yet and she was already soaked! Wai! Wai that's amazing!!

When he rose out of the water with the fish in his jaws he couldn't help but puff up his chest in pride. He had caught his lady a fish. He leapt from the water in one clean leap, and smiled at her once he put the fish on the earth. He kept a paw on it, holding it down so that it couldn't flop its way back into the water.
"Before I show you how, I want you to try this." He said, motioning her over with his wet face.
"Don't be shy, sweetheart."

Giving the water behind her a uncertain look, small paws carried her back to shore where she wiggled to loosen some of the heaviness that weighed her down given the water that made her fur so dense. Waikiki made it look so easy, but was it really? She hoped she wouldn't disappoint him, gently settling on the shore before him to stare down at the impressive, wiggling creature just beneath his paw. It still seemed to have a bit of life in it despite the puncture wounds upon its body from her hubby's large fangs. With all those scales though, she wasn't exactly sure how she was supposed to go about consuming the strange animal, being as foreign to her as fresh meat must have been to a cub trying it for the first time. H-how do I eat it?
Her voice filled with puzzlement as a damp paw touched the flapping tail. Leaning down to sniff at it curiously, Cae's button nose wiggled with intrigue. Well, it smelled interesting, but not in an unpleasant way. Watering mouth eager to taste the flesh. Would it be bloody? Would it taste the same as it smelled? What color was the meat? The little Shadow Ela could barely wait to find out!

He smiled warmly, placing one paw on the fish's tail, and then the other over its head. Leaning down he pulled up his lips and bit into the fish with a bit of gentleness. Normally he would rip it apart when he ate it, but he was showing her how to eat it, while leaving a lot of fish for her. After he tore into it and ripped a piece of flesh, he released the now dead fish, and gulped the piece down.
"Like that." He said with a smile nosing it towards her. He could see the excitement on her face and it made him smile. He couldn't help but love her innocence.

Self consciously, Wai's large paws were replaced with her own in just the same positions as he had placed them, one at the head and one at tail. Feeling still gills beneath her touch as the creature had been left breathless. The fight having drained out of the scaled swimmer, leaving its flesh to be feasted upon. The newness of it would take some getting accustomed to, this was different from catching a hare or a gazelle, but this was something Caely had wanted to experience since discovering Wai fished. Certainly the process would become more natural with time, right?
Dropping onto her belly so that she could eat more comfortably Caely finally opened her mouth wide and took a big bite. Rending the soft meat and snapping needle thin rib bones as it was detached from the spine. Chewing to savor the unfamiliar flavor for several long, silent moments. When she finally swallowed her gaze lifted to the patient--if eagerly--awaiting hubby standing over her and beamed happily. It's really good! Not as tough as meat from the plains grazers!
