She was in trouble.

Oh but what she in trouble.

It was dark out, the first fadings of twilight as Minny Apis ran home, her faitful companion Digs the Dog sticking out of her blue and orange backpack. She had simply stopped on the way home from delivering a package of candles to a friends house to play on the jungle gym outside of her school. Before she knew it, she was a pirate on the open seas, and the Red-Beard just had to be stopped before she could continue home. She finished her solo battle against a horde of pirates just as the streetlights were flickering on, and then she panicked.

The Brown and white dog that poked it's head of her backpack bounced to and fro as she ran. Eventually, the bouncing must have made him sick, for her leaned forward and hit the pavement with a muffled whumph.

Minny skidded to a halt, turning round and saying loudly "Digs! What are you doing!? We have to get home!"

What digs did could only be described as peculiar. The normally silent and still dog rose to it haunches, and waved it's head at Minny. Then it rose into the air slowly, looking as if it dangled by it's tiny arms.

She stopped, staring at her suddenly living stuffed toy, wondering how on earth it came to be moving, when a shadow formed behind it.

It was completely black but for white eyes, and it held her dog captive. The creature grinned, waving Digs at her teasingly, and she shouted "Hey! That's mine! Give it back!"

But the creature did not listen. Instead, it came towards Minny menacingly. She gulped ans tapped backwards, saying "I-i mean it. Digs is my dog...."

Tony was out when he knew he shouldn't be, his leg still healing. He had his crystal with him, though he wasn't yet sure what, if anything, it could do. He felt like he couldn't just leave it lying around, however.

Not just because he wanted to learn about it, or that he had some sense of possession over it, but because he lived with Nathan Darrow. And leaving anything even remotely valuable looking around with him lurking was just a bad idea.

And he didn't even know his son was a senshi, and might actually know more about the crystal than he did.

He was using walking his dog as an excuse for being out. Dogby was always interested in walkies, and she was sniffing up a storm at a tree she had found. It wasn't a particularly remarkable tree to the librarian, but he imagined she knew more about trees than he did. Especially this tree, considering how long they had been standing there.

"Are you going to use the bathroom at some point, bee-bee?" he had so many nicknames for her, that just feel out of his mouth when he was using his 'you are a cute dog' voice. His ears perked when he heard a young voice shouting nearby. Instinct kicked in and, after tying Dogby to the Very Interesting Tree, Tony powered up and ran toward the noise.

He had been right, worrying about the noise. He saw a young girl and a youma looming over her, and managed to run/limp over in time before it reached her. Shield up, he put himself between her and the youma.

"Don't worry, I can protect you," he said, glancing back at her. "you should run and hide." He didn't realize the youma had a hostage. Of sorts.

What...what was it!?

Her mind raced as the creature advanced, and she felt scared tears well up in her eyes. She shook her head, yelling "Go away!" and through her eyelids she saw darkness cover the streelight. Minny dropped to the ground, covering her head with her hands.

Don't worry, I can protect you.

Her eyes opened and she blinked a couple times, looking up between the locks of brown hair that had fallen in her face to see a man standing in front of her. He was dressed like someone out of a movie, or a school play their family sometimes went to. He had a shield, but no sword.

Run and hide? Oh yeah! She wanted to, but her legs wouldn't move. "But...Digs..." She started to say, trailing off as her concern for her pet made the fear subside long enough for her to run. She ran from man and beast, fleeing to a preschool playground. Her hiding place was a barrel tunnel that connected two pieces of the structure together. From there she could watch what happened.

Tony looked at her, briefly as there was a youma to worry about.

"Don't worry, little one," he said softly, not sure what Digs was, but he imagined he could guess once he looked back at the youma. He let her run off, taking a moment to make sure he knew where she was going. He needed to keep her safe.

That was the main goal: dusting the youma a close second.

The youma lunged at him and he had to act quick to defend against it. It slammed against his shield and he nearly fell over with his bag leg barely supporting him. The youma noticed, and it swung again and this time succeeded.

He fell over.

It leaped away and landed on top of the barrel she was hiding in. Tony ran after him, stumbling after him. "Don't come out of there!" He called, like she needed to be told.

Minny watched the fight from her barrel, cringing as the monster attacked the man. She was confused as all get out. Where did these people come from!? Was that thing even considered a person!?

The man seemed to be losing. She gasped, shouted "Be careful!" The poor man seemed to be hurt, but she had'nt seen the monster hit him yet. Was he hurt before?

It echoed through the barrel, drawing the attention of the youma. It leapt atop the barrel, and Minny let out a strangled cry of surprise and fear. She nodded, then covered her head with her hands as she crouched in the barrel. She felt the plaything shudder when the creature shifted above.

"But what if it eats me?" she yelled to Camelot.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:45 am

"It's not going to eat you!"

That was a promise: there was no way Tony was going to let a young child get killed by a youma. He didn't want anyone getting hurt by one, but the younger they were the more pressing it felt. A girl her age couldn't defend herself against a monster like that.

And what was more: it was scary. The poor kid was probably going to have nightmares about this. So the gallant knight had to kill the monster as fast as he could, to lessen the shock.

He stopped his hobbling, knowing he wouldn't get there fast enough for his tastes, and pulled the circular shield from where it was attached to his arm. He gripped it like a frisbee and then threw it with all his might, the disk cutting through the air and slamming into the youma's head with a resounding crack.

Camelot hurried over again as the youma fell to the side, hoping that bought him enough time to close the distance and force the thing away from the girl's hiding place.

"Are you alright in there?" He asked, "don't come out, but did it hurt you?" He reached the barrel and bent so he could peek in, offering her a warm smile when he saw her in the dark. "You'll be safe, I promise."

The crack overhead was kinda gross. She looked up, and hen slowly made her way to the end of the tunnel, now curious more than scared. It seemed like the good guy was winning, and when he popped into the tunnel, she started.

Minny nodded, saying "I'm ok. It hasn't touched me. What is it?" She finished, talking rapidly.

She wanted to peek out of the tunnel, but the man's head was in the way. She supposed it was a good thing. But what about Digs? The creature still had him! Minny was about to remind the brave soul that this was in fact a hostage situation, but decided against it. He was already nice enough to save her, she didn't want to worry him further.

"Good luck." She said, offering Camelot a smile to mach his own. "Get that creepy monster!"

Camelot shook his head. He didn't really want to explain what a youma was to someone so young. Monsters were scary, after all, and things had plenty of that already. The scariness.

He had to dust the thing, anyway: he didn't have time to really try and comfort her or explain in any way what was going on. That would have to wait until the thing was gone.

The youma leaped at him, and Camelot had to hobble away in an effort to collect his shield from the floor. He picked it up by rolling toward it, grabbing it and putting it back on his arm in time to meet the youma as it tried to tackle him again. He slammed the shield into its face and the wood cracked, splitting down the middle. Thankfully, the hard hits had taken their toll on the youma.

He swung a punch at it and it burst into dust, leaving him panting on his knees, his leg searing in pain, his heart thundering in his ears and his throat, it felt like. Something about defending a child made these fights even more scary than usual.

He looked toward the barrel.

"It's alright. That thing is gone." He saw Digs nearby and picked it up, holding it gently so it didn't suffer any more after the harrowing hostage situation.

One minute, she saw the man fighting a scary monster.

The next minute, it had puffed into a cloud of dust.

She peeked her head out, staring at the man that was now on his knees. She wiggled out of the barrel, and ran over to him, concern twisting her face into sadness.

"Are you ok?" she asked, getting on her hands and knees to stare into her savior's face. He looked tired, and hurt, and very very uncomfortable. She continued to stare at him, then turned to get a better look at his shield.

"Oh but it's broken!" She said, small heart breaking for the man. He had risked his life to save her, only to have is nice shield broken by the monster! "Will you be able to fix it? If not, maybe I can help you find another one?"

Her concern gave way just the teensiest bit to confusion, and she asked "Who are you? And why are you dressed like that? Are you from a movie!?"

"I'm alright," he said, smiling and trying to be reassuring. He had come to this fight pre-injured, so he was a bit over his head. Moreso than he usually was, at any rate, though he liked to think that he was, in fact, getting better at this whole youma dusting thing.

He had managed to get this one before it caused too much trouble, after all.

He looked at his shield, then shook his head quickly, waving his hand to dismiss the idea.

"Oh, no! Don't worry about this thing. It breaks all the time: it'll be just fine next time, I promise. It's not your fault it broke: it's not the strongest of things out there. Believe me." He chuckled, taking a breath and finally getting his heart to slow to something more reasonable.

"My name is Camelot. I'm... a knight," he didn't have any better excuse for why he was dressed like one, anyway. He shook his head. "Not a movie, per se, but I am glad I was here to help you. I would have felt very bad, if that thing had hurt you. Is your... uhm... little friend alright?"

He offered her Digs.

"Oh Digs!" She squealed, bringing him close to her and hugging him tightly. He seemed alright from the ordeal, though a new layer of dust was added to his body, giving him a washed out looked. Hie right arm was also a little less stuffed than the others, the stuffing having moved to the center of his body when he was flung about by his arm. But overall he was fine, and Minny smiled at the man widely, saying "Thank you thank you Mister...Knight."

His shield didn't look like it was magically fixing, but Minny trusted his words. After all, it was only wood right? Chances are it would break every chance it got.

"How come you don't get another one? Like one made of metal or something? Didn't knights of old have metal shields, with paint all over them? And he said he was a knight....

A knight! And his name was Camelot! "It's like your from the Middle Ages!" She exclaimed, really studying his outfit now. He did look like he had stepped out of a story book involving Kings and Queens, and damsels in distress being saved by men on white horses....

Speaking of. "If your a knight, shouldn't you have a horse to ride?" She looked about suddenly, wondering where he kept such a large beast hidden.

Camelot smiled at her and chuckled. He was glad he had at least managed to save her little friend, though he was looking a bit worse for wear at the moment. Still, he had a difficult experience, what with being a youma hostage.

They made toys strong these days, it seemed.

"Ah, well," he said, picking up one of the splinters of the wood and looking at it. It didn't look particularly magical, or like the item that had started this second life. But this thing, this pathetic circle of wood, was a true gift, and a dear weapon. Even if it was old and broke every chance it got.

"They did have those, but I was given this one, and this is the one I have to use. I didn't pick it, but it does its job, and keeps me, and people like you, safe. That's all I need it to do."

Her question about a horse threw him. oddly, he had never been asked about one before. He had ridden a horse once, but he hadn't been terribly skilled at it. He wished to go back to the ranch for another lesson, but he was so busy now that it was impossible to really find the time. He reminded himself to do it, though.

"I have no horse, but I don't think one would be very good, what with all the cars and the... uhm... roof jumping."

She was a bit disappointed to hear that there wasn't a horse hiding around the corner. She loved horses, but her mother and father didn't own enough land to have them. But Minny knew one day she would have her own house, and her own rules.

And that meant a horse of her own.

"As long as your shield works, then it doesn't matter what it's made of I guess."
Minny said thoughtfully. She figured he should still take his back and find another one. Maybe his King can give him one made of metal!

Another question teased at her mind. She couldn't hold it back though, and with that one released, a whole flood of questions came out. "So...your magical? Like real magic? Not just that stuff that people do with cards and birds? Where did you get it?! Can I do magic too?"

Her green eyes sparkled with delight at the thought of real magic.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:02 am

Camelot smiled, imagining every girl Minny's age liked horses. Wasn't that a thing? He couldn't blame them, he liked them too, though he certainly wasn't a little girl. Frowning, he had just insulted himself silently, which was strange and a little sad, but he didn't have to let her know about that.

Instead, he just smiled at her.

"Magical? I suppose you can say that, yes. There's a power I have that helps me fight these monsters, and keep people like you safe. And that is what I've promised to do. But the magic is uhm. Inside. It's sometimes sleeping inside of people, and it wakes up when they need it, or someone else needs it. But hopefully you never will. Magic sounds much more fantastical then it actually is, and it's dangerous. I think you could be much happier without it."

He smiled reassuringly.

"Now, were you on your way home? Where are your parents?" He was a firm believer that at this age a kid should be looked after, and under near constant surveillance. They could get up to so much trouble, on their own, and there were so many dangers in the city. His parenting instincts were burning.

She frowned as he described the magic not as something wonderful and awesome, but dangerous. That wasn't what she saw in movies and tv shows. Her favorite show was about a girl that fought monsters. She had a magical staff that she transformed with. It looked like so much fun! But tonight had shown her that it indeed was a lot different than what she was used to.

Instead of focusing on that however, she latched onto the middle part of his explanation.

"So the magic was inside you?" She said, eyeing him critically. It sounded cheesy. "Then there could be magic inside of me too?" Minny's eyes lit up with unconcealed excitement. Despite the sobering experience with magic, the thought of being a super hero herself was enough to push all of that away in the young girl's mind. "How did you wake it up?"

Her question left her mind though when he asked about her parents. Her parents....

Were going to kill her!

"Oh no!" She gasped, jumping up and clutching Digs. "My parents are gonna kill me!" The streetlights were on now, and it was very dark. She was supposed to have been home ages ago! Camelot seemed concerned.

"I was on my way home from my friend's house." she mumbled, looking down at her shoes. "And then that thing attacked me. I live over there past that green house." She pointed to her right, where a line of porch lights could be seen.
