Theo was apprehensive and rightly so. It had been almost a week since he was gone from the confines of his home and the soothing embrace of his mother's voice and he was starting to feel a mixture of anxiety and home-sickness. He had never been away from her for so long, and although he had dealt with situations before where he was in groups of unfamiliar and often times strange individuals it was never without the constant reassurance he was going back home.

This time he wasn't going home.

This place was now home.

He shuddered, a general chill of uneasiness coursing through him. The pit of his stomach had developed worms, wiggling about in unpleasant ways. His eyes darted back and forth from the people who were here, to those on the verge of entering the Academy's large auditorium. It was almost like being back at the theater again, except the theater wasn't quite as modern as this and was a little on the aged side.

"I bet it echoes into forever," Theo said to himself, not restraining the loudness of his voice as if he were unconsciously testing out his own hypothesized thoughts.

Straffe had signed up for a drama class with the same bright outlook on the results as anyone did when they knew very little about something and decided to give it a try anyway. But that was the level of optimism that he brought to everything regardless.

Still, he was a little surprised to note the dreary looks some of the others had, like this class could be dreaded at all! What was more invigorating than entertaining others, right?

The auditorum, like the rest of the school seemed like it had been designed with giants in mind. Or hordes of kids. There were huge, overhanging dark blue curtains covering a stage at one end where most of the class was gathering. From the lack of teacher, Straffe figured he was early.

Straffe whistled, only to hear it echoing rather dramatically around the room, he gave a sheepish wince but at least he wasn't the first person to experiment with the noise.

He waved to the other guy testing the volume and ambled a few steps closer.

"It sure does." Hm, now he sounded a little country. Straffe shifted and ran a hand through his bangs a little self-consciously. Finally after a moment he gave *Theo* a smile. "Sorry, I'm excited to be starting such a normal class." He'd just finished a lesson in the power-control theory room. That had been all levels of weird.

xxxWhy am I here? Was the thought that repeated in Anemone's mind, over and over again. Because this was the last class
available that fit in her schedule and she had to take something, really. But that didn't stop her from dreading every moment of
being in the auditorium and the class to come. Leaning against the back wall of the stage, she watched the other students flock
together while keeping her own distance.

xxxIt wasn't that she didn't like the theatre, or drama, or anything like that. It was just so scary. Performing in front of others?
Anemone was a dancer, yes, but she rarely performed. When she did, it wasn't for more than a small handful of people. At least
she had some pathetically small amount of confidence in her dancing, but... acting? All the girl could hope for was to be able to
work backstage.

xxxThe wallflower's pale eyes trailed over her classmates, and her attention was drawn to the two boys testing out the acoustics
of the auditorium. It was obviously newer, like the rest of the building- yet it still retained the elegant charm of an older theatre.
Anemone looked around the room some more, admiring the architecture and spacing out.

Theo winced in unison with Straffe as the other boy also unconsciously tested out the acoustics of the auditorium. His was a little more embarrassing as it was something that obviously couldn't be ignored. A whistle was generally something used to get the attention of others, and although it didn't seem the case in Straffe's instance it still fulfilled it's naturally conceived job.

Theo clammed up a tad when the other boy caught his gaze and waved at him. He waved back tentatively with a stiff arm and wondered if this was going to result in being talked to. Much to Theo's chagrin it ended as he theorized.

The other boy approached him and gave him a smile as he explained that he was a little excited for being in a normal class. Theo couldn't help but find it a little funny, if not ironic, as he had never really thought of theater as something that was normal. In his experience the more abnormal you were, the better apt to theater you might actually be; if only in the actual acting department anyway.

Trying to be courteous, Theo offered Straffe a smile in return before replying, "I... I dunno, man. Theater... isn't really normal."

Inside Theo felt like screaming. The ice had been broken and now they were conversing. He was a terrible conversationalist, and felt that there was no doubt Straffe was going to suffer in trying to talk to him. Broken responses here, very few shared experiences there. Bothersome.

Allowing his eyes to scan around the room, he managed to grab the gaze of one of the girls standing by the stage. Her hair was pale, like her eyes, and she seemed as self-conscious about being in this class as Theo did. He recognized her quickly as his roommate, Anemone. He wondered if he was the only one who was paired up with a girl, but it didn't bother him. She was a sweet person and he didn't like making others feel uncomfortable.

Should I try and wave her over? Theo thought to himself. Would she even see me?

Turning his attention back to Straffe, Theo decided to continue speaking, "I've always felt that... that you gotta be a little weird to be good at theater."

Straffe, who was probably about as mentally grounded and normal as a teenager could get, grinned. He had never understood the forced social levels of acceptable and normal- probably because he wasn't picked last for PE all the time- but he did empathize with the concept of the theatre and weird, standoff personalities. "Everyone is normal until you get to know them."

Yes, he'd just said that out-loud, his smile wilted half an inch (although it was still a wide smile) but he countered quickly. "I mean, I heard someone say that once." He rubbed his shoes a little awkwardly. "Yeah, that came out a little too teen-spirit. Hi, my name's Straffe and we're taking drama class together."

He held out a hand, for shaking, taking a measure of the boy in front of him, like most of those around him, this one was younger than Straffe, who was definitely feeling his more 'big-brother' genes emerging. He didn't have an immediate younger sibling, but that made the gear-shift no more different. Afterall, what could he fear from short teenagers? They would emo him to death? Hah, Straffe felt no fear at emotionally dysfunctional teens! He would turn their frowns upside down.

Oh god, he did not just think that. Straffe's mind was a shallowly echoing motivational speech, running rampant and causing him to blurt out cheery sayings at inappropriate moments. People didn't want to be cheered up in high-school, they wanted empathy!

The room was still full of that nervous energy that came from teens in a room, unsure of their social prejudices. Straffe could feel it, but slowly he pulled his mind from the grasp of social awkwardness as he introduced himself. Afterall, this was how one made friends; striking up conversations and sharing.

xxxThe buzz of conversation was growing louder, leaving Anemone to feel growingly left out and self concious. Yet she remained
near the wall by herself, clinging onto her bag as if her life depended on it. Ane simply watched the other students, only half
interested in her classmates.

xxxHer eyes stopped briefly, meeting Theo's. She reconized him- he was her room mate. Were there other co-ed room mates?
Heck, how did they even choose them in the first place? Shrugging pointless thoughts from her mind, Anemone's eyes trailed
down to stare at the wooden stage under her.

xxx"Alright everyone!" A teacher appeared from somewhere backstage, holding a clip board and looking frantic. "We seem to
be having some scheduling isssues, so uh, for now just get into groups of three for me and I'll be right back."

Just as suddenly as the teacher appeared, he retreated behind the stage's curtains once more.

xxxAnemone straightened up, eyes wide. Groups...!? Grip tightening on her bag and eyes widening, the girl could feel the
uncomfortably familiar pang of panic begin to spread from the pit in her stomach.

Theo gave Straffe a small, albeit forced, smile. He was definitely a weird one, whether he realized it or not. His optimistic, buddy-buddy and straightforward attitude was a little daunting to the admittedly stand-offish Theo. This was only because it had been quite some time since Theo had met a soul who was kind to him and willing to be friendly without some ulterior motive like humiliating him or beating him up once they got close enough.

Taking Straffe's hand hesitantly, he shook it a little languidly, "I'm, uh. I'm Theo. Theo Ashland."

With introductions out of the way and the growing chatter of the auditorium rising steadily higher, the teacher finally decided to make an appearance and instructed the kids to get into groups together.

Groups? Theo thought to himself, dreading the inevitable working-together attitude. It wasn't that he didn't like the idea, it was that he hadn't worked with anyone in a very long while. At least anyone his own age anyway, stage hands and actors are a different story.

Letting go of Straffe's hand, he looked around quickly and noticed Anemone still off on her own. He made a small face and sighed heavily. He couldn't just leave his roommate off by herself like that, it was cruel. That and he was going to be living with her during their stay here, so it was only appropriate to get to know her as much as he could. Besides... she was cute and genuinely kind.

"Uhm, S-Straffe? Could you wait, uhm, here a moment. I need to go grab someone...," Theo said hurriedly, zooming off with a half-gallop towards Anemone.

"Uhm, A-Anemone?" Theo called, slowly his trot as he got closer to her, "Do, uhm. Do you have a g-group yet?"

Straffe relaxed a little at the casual introductions, he was glad that Theo was one of those socially capable people, it meant two-way conversation. That meant that Straffe didn't have to carry conversations all on his own- those were always tough.

The teacher was one of those ghost-teachers, the kind that had too much work with other classes on his mind and ended up never staying with the class they were in at the time. Eh, Straffe'd had worse. Besides, it was drama class, most of the work was in small groups anyway.

"Okay..." He watched the other boy approach a girl who was six levels of shy and cute in a box. She had the wallflower, melting into the background going on, it reminded him a little of a butterfly. With Straffe's natural outgoing attitude, he didn't really see the quiet, shy people that were around him- after all, he was used to coaxing conversation and letting others 'out' of the proverbial shell.

He supposed that this class must be a real challenge for quiet people, drama was a lot to do with entertaining and confidence was half the show. Still, wasn't joining the class the first step? Of course, Straffe didn't see it as a hard thing so much as a regular habit. Did that mean he was overconfident? Hm, the photokinetic analysed this thought a little. No, but he was not afraid of people, certainly. No more than the next person, he reasoned.

Straffe gave the girl a friendly smile and wave, if she wanted to join in, Theo would bring her, most likely.

xxx"E-eh?" Anemone snapped out of her own little world as her new room mate trotted up to her, calling out her name. "O-oh,
hello,"
Pause. What was his name again? Oh, right. "Theo." Anemone tacked on, slightly proud that she remembered the dark
haired boy's name. She glanced around her general vicinity- there were no other students near her, the rest of their peers having
already grouped together like little magnets.
"N-no, I don't." His question seemed rather moot, but she figured it was a way of
asking if she'd like to join his.

xxxMotion caught Anemone's eye, and she looked behind her roomie to spot a darker boy enthusiastically waving to her. The girl
awkwardly raised a hand, giving him a weak shake back. Theo's friend and the second to his group, she assumed?

xxx"I-I suppose you want to partner up?" Anemone questioned softly, although she already knew the answer.
