Just curious if anyone has any animals that they identify with, magically, spiritually, or religiously. I also would like to know how you found out that animal was the right one.
For me--cats. Definitely cats. Its's ALWAYS been cats.
I've seen cats during deep meditation, and my personal Goddess, Freya, is a cat Goddess, among other things. I just seem to have an affinity for the animals. My real name was shortened to the nickname "Cat" when I entered middle school--I don't know who started it, I never introduced myself as Cat, it just kind of happened.
I have always identified with cats--I love them, and they like me. When I was six years old I found two tiny white kittens (who later grew into two beautiful chocolate Siamese cats whom I adored). I've had people go "Oh dear, be careful--that cat might bite, she doesn't like anyone!" and then in half an hour without doing anything conscious to encourage the attention the cat starts headbutting my leg, demanding to be petted. I have had not one, but FOUR stray cats follow me home on separate occasions. Due to varying circumstances, not the least of which were my two aforementioned very overprotective Samese cats, Tinkerbell and Peter Pan (I was six when I named them >_<) I was never able to keep any of them, but I made sure I found homes for all of them.
I was wondering if anyone else could give me any info about animals that they identify with?

Bears, as if you hadn't guessed from my name. I identify with them at least the traits they display, wouldn't want to meet one in real life, they kill people. I also identify with cats I guess or at least they see me as an easy touch, I drive an over night delivery route and there are many stray cats I see at my stops, I have gotten to carrying kitty treats with me and feeding the little buggers. Some of these will even let me pet them.

I'm not really positive about which animal, but I have a strong spiritual and emotional pull towards cats. Cats have always seemed to just click with me. from the nicest house cat to the most vicious feral cat. they all walk up to me, purring away.

Like the cougar, panther, ect.

Like the cougar, panther, ect. Well with me, big cats maybe not so much. guess I feel a sort of kinship with them, but I'm under no illusion that They could--and might very well--kill/maim me. I don't blame or hate them, but I would certainly be more careful around them than any housecat. I have gotten some pretty nasty scratches from the cats at the cat shelter I volunteer for--if they're angry or scared, they WILL lash out, whether you have any kind of affinity for them or not. I've learned to not take it personally with housecats, but considering the fact that a scratch or bite from, say, a tiger, could kill me...well, I'll just not take my chances. Beautiful and admirable creatures, but deadly ones. Maybe that's why I like them so much.

Yes, I too have a friendship with cats, but my main creature has always been k9s. I have befriended both quite easily, but the one animal I have always dreamed about was wolves. Also, I love horses, hawks, and dragons.

Unfortunately, shape shifting is a topic I know very little about. :< There seem to be shapeshifters of one sort or another in every culture in the world, but I wouldn't know where to begin! When I see cats in meditation, they are more like guides, pointing me in the right direction or being protective.

bearcatthorin Well hey I identify with bears but I couldn't just go up to one and pet it, well actually I could..... once. LOL lol Lol, true. There was a zoo in Australia where a woman got into the lion enclosure and was mauled. She lived-miraculously-and said she went in because she felt connected to the animals. So she tried to read them the Bible. 8D It...uh...didn't really work. I guess the lesson is, keep your spirituality at a reasonably healthy distance from large, untamed wildlife that could easily kill you.

I also noted that you once mentioned berserkers (bear shirts) in a thread about shape-shifting. I had forgotten that mythical berserkers were reported to be shape-shifters. I've been a berserker all my life but never once have I changed shape. I've always wanted to though.

The zookeeper talking about it apparently said "Well, it's a bloody long book." Like THAT'S why they mauled her! Oh those lions, try to read them anything longer than short fiction and the claws come out! @_@
