The more they traveled, the more lighthearted Koa became. Her laughter came freely, her eyes twinkled with humor, and she grew less and less apprehensive about showing Hayven physical affection. One day soon she would tell him how she felt, but for now she let her feelings shine in her eyes. For now, it would be enough. She knew she should live by her own words, but those three little words were proving more difficult than she thought they would be. It didn't matter. They were free, free, free! It was an amazing feeling, breathtaking, stunning! There were simply not enough words to describe it. "Hayven," she called to him as she raced ahead of him, "did you see that bird?"

He could tell that she was happy. She was a whole new lioness it seemed now that she was away from the pride that had caused her such fear and turmoil. She had not deserved such fear.. She was far too kind to belong there, and he was happy that if anything, he was part of the reason she was out of the pride now. Standing a bit taller and puffing out his chest as he thought of that, he grinned.
She raced ahead of him and he cocked his head. Chuckling, he shook his head with an amused gleam in his eyes.
"No my dear, I think you were the only one to see that bird." He said, his eyes scanning the sky to see if he could see it.Chander He was hunting. Or rather, attempting it. He much preferred when he didn't have to hunt on his own. A pride of hunters was far easier in the food department then one lone male who really hadn't been an expert anyway. His eyes were set on a bright blue bird though, and he licked his lips. It was feathery but he could look past that. His jaws would crush the feathers and then he'd hardly notice them after all! He lowered his chest to the earth, his rear following close behind as he stalked closer. The tan grasses did rather well at hiding his yellow pelt, though it was by no means a perfect blend. When the bird started fluttering away, obviously having spotted something else, he leapt at it, snarling. His claws came just inches away from the birds small body, but he was jsut short. With an angry flop, he landed on the earth and frowned.

"It flew over he--"
Though the sense of freedom was refreshing, Koa was still more than slightly jumpy when it came to sudden movements or odd sounds. Her words were interrupted by the sound of a body thudding against the ground. She froze and instinctively crouched down on the ground, ears pinning back and eyes locked on the location that the sound came from. Too terrified to move any closer, her reaction to fear was still so strong and so ingrained that she did the only thing she knew -- she froze in place.

Hayven had heard the sound. It was like someone had dropped a large boulder against the earth. But then again, it wasnt as solid..and there was a bit of a growl after it. He saw her hunch towards the earth, and instantly his need to defend her rose within him. When that feeling came over him, it was as if he was invisible, and he would stand up to anyone.. It was likely a dangerous feeling.
Stepping past her, he held his paw out, motioning for her to stay where she was. He wouldnt have her getting hurt..not if he was there anyway. Looking out past the large-ish rock that had been blocking their view, he saw the yellow lion. Walking closer, he cleared his throat.
Chander looked at the earth, and kicked at it, before turning to head off in another direction. He was hungry and this was boding for a very inopportune event. He had been going to walk, and he looked up to see the white and grey lion staring at him. This fellow was big, his fur thick. He looked like a cloud, with that soft plush fur. He was bigger, but Chander was leaner. He was likely the quicker of the two. But that only meant if he had to run, it wouldnt be a difficult attempt.
"Evening, fella. What exactly is it you're doing? It looks an -awful- lot like staring and that rude." He teased, though it was likely hard to notice since Hayven didn't know his joking attitude.

Koa was so thankful for Hayven. He really was her guardian angel, her bodyguard, her knight in shining armor. If something ever happened to him, she wasn't sure what she would do. Koa didn't even like to think about it, really. To do so only heightened the anxiety that welled in her chest. It was unnecessary.
At Hayven's gesture, she remained on the ground where she was though she was ready to either break into run or attack the interloper if he or she (she couldn't see exactly what was going on) attacked. She would not just sit idly while her Hayven was attacked.
"Be careful," she whispered softly, though her ears perked when she heard another male voice.

He didnt answer her when she told him to be careful. He'd be careful, it was a given, but he also didn't want to give danger any insight that he was about to notice they were there. So he quietly nodded.
The yellow lion didn't look aggressive.. and when he spoke it was almost with an air of pompous attitude. He seemed full of himself, yet with a tinge of friendliness. He was quite confused and he wasnt sure he liked it.
"I was wondering what it was that would scare my mate as bad as your fall did. Is all." He responded simply, looking the other over coldly to make sure that he saw no weakness. Hayven would not be tested right now. He was far too tired of the fighting.
Chander chuckled, his eyes widening and then he busted out laughing. He had scared this guys mate? Well by the looks of it his mate was invisible as far as Chander could tell. He leaned one way, and then the other, to see if the mate was around. He saw nothing and so he cleared his throat. Obviously this guy was crazy.
"Mate. Right. Well, I think that she's beautiful. I mean, clearly a class act." He said, of the nothingness he thought the other was talking about.
"Im sorry I scared her..him...it..er.." He stammered.

Hayven might've told Koa to keep still and to stay where she was, but at the other's laugh threatened to shoot to her feet. Clearly the male was harmless and yet she didn't want to pop up and start snarking at him.
And then... it sounded like the other male thought Hayven was crazy?
Koa didn't fight the urge to shoot up from her slumped position so she could peer into the direction that Hayven was speaking in.
"I'm right here," she scowled, watching him with those bright eyes of hers. She did not appreciate the male poking fun at ... her eyes went wide and she turned to Hayven.
"Did.. did you just call me your mate?"
DID HE JUST CALL HER HIS MATE?!

Hayven narrowed his eyes at the male and shook his head. Was he stupid or something? Did he just assume that Hayven had been talking about.. no one?
He was about to say something, but her voice caught him off guard and he whipped his head to watch her walking over to him. He wasnt exactly thrilled she hadn't listened, but she was her own girl. This guy wasnt dangerous, and besides.. Her fire was what attracted him to her in the first place.
He hadn't been thinking, and his cold, tough exterior instantly changed to a blushing, stammering male who had no idea what to say next. Dear god, he had said it. He had been thinking it for weeks, wanting to ask her.. But he hadnt yet. He had slipped up, and badly.
"I-uh.. I mean, Im.. Uh.." He put a paw to the back of his head, and his expression was clearly stunned. He was so unsure of what to do next..
Chander watched the pretty girl stand up and approach and he smiled. "Oh..See, I told you she was quite the catch. You're quite lovely, my dear." He said, bowing his head and winking at her. Though his attention went back to Hayven.
"No offense intended..Of course." He said, his voice drawn out and low. It was obvious he was the type to test you, see how much he could push before he got a rise out of you. Though he wasnt aggressive, so it would always stop there.
He went to open his mouth, and when they started talking amongst each other he grinned. "Oh.. this is good."

He so totally had said it.
"You can't take it back," she warned him, now ignoring the stranger that had so frightened her in the beginning. "You can't take it back!" she repeated, as if saying it again would make sure that Hayven realized that he'd called her his mate.
They'd been traveling together for a while now and she'd been fighting with herself for the best time to just ... say the words. Just say them.
"I love you, Hayven." There. She'd said it, and she'd said it with the grumpiest expression on her face, as if she'd been half-expecting him to say that it had been a slip of the tongue.

When she uttered the words, Chander rolled his eyes. Ah, love. He didn't even know if he really believed in such a thing. But he supposed someone needed to. With a bow of his head, he chuckled and turned.
"You two enjoy yourselves. You really know how to make a guy feel comfortable." He said, sarcasm dripping from his voice. But it was also tinged with a bit of a joking feel to it. He wasn't a mean guy, nor was he a snippy one. He did joke a little harsh sometimes though.
With that, he was gone, without wanting to know any of their names. He didn't like the mushy stuff, not when it didn't involve him and a little female ready to do what he wanted.
Hayven gulped, blushing again and still stammering. He couldnt seem to control his thoughts and it was hard even uttering a word. He gulped again, and stepped closer to her, ignoring the male that had taken his leave. He was rather happy he had left, and he wasn't going to do a damned thing to think he wanted him back here.
"Do- Do you really, Koa?" He asked, his heart pounding in his chest as if it could explode and kill him. That would be rather counter productive but his body was just seeming to be on autopilot for the moment.
"I love you too." He said, those words he had wanted to utter since he had met her. For him it had been love at first sight. She had taken his heart, and he had given her his.

"I do," she squealed, butting her head up against his chin as she purred loudly. They'd been through so much together -- from escaping from the pride she'd called home for so long, to the search to find a home of their own.
They were together, happy and healthy. Wherever life took them, Koa knew that it wouldn't matter because he would be at her side. With him there, she could conquer the world. She could do anything with his love and his presence by her side.
