Scheherazade pawed at the ground beneath her hoof, watching as the small pile of dust lifted up and swallowed the bottom half of her leg. She was standing on the outskirts of a beautiful oasis. It was large. Large enough for a small kingdom of equines to live in. Which would serve their purposes perfectly. And about time. She wasn't sure how much more she could have walked.
The black clothed mare wasn't new to traveling. Her father had kept her in a constant state of moving many years ago, to escape what was happening back home. Though he tried his best, he couldn't keep his daughter from returning. She didn't regret it.
But now, things were different. Just moving somewhere to eat or drink was proving a chore. This she wasn't used to. Being weaker in body and having to depend on someone else all the time wasn't something she was enjoying. Scheherazade was the kind of mare who preferred to take her own life into her hands. However, even she had to admit the experience of it all wasn't a total unwelcome one.
The many cloths covering her bay body hid most of the growing bulge of her stomach. Though she and everyone else couldn't see it, she could always feel it. The heavy weight of it, like having a pair of sand bags slung over your back constantly. The tiny hooves that hammered away at her body for most of the day and night. She wished they wouldn't be so rough, but at least that showed they were strong. Hopefully boys. Strong sons were what they needed most of all right now.
Scheherazade ceased her pawing of the sand, raising her head up. Under the cloth covering her mouth, there was a small frown on her lips. A beautiful place, indeed.
"My King," she said loudly to gain his attention. "Something went on here. Is it safe to settle?" Pregnant or not, if they had to continue traveling, she wouldn't complain. She never complained. Scheherazade was the perfect mate, obedient, quiet, and willing to follow.

Shah Ryar stepped into the oasis, it was perfect and not a moment too soon, his wife had become heavy set with foals and she needed a place to bare them. Not once had she given a single complaint about it, and it had been quite by accident he had found out the robes she always wore were very concealing. Shah prayed to Allah for them to be strong young boys, boys were needed to begin the herd once more. He did admire his mate for her strength and wisdom, and looked to her council. He could not bare if she were to die, they had to stay here.
"My love this, place is safe, the tracks lead out and don't seem to return, the sands have started covering them." by Allah, the timing was indeed perfect. "We will rebuild here." he stomped his foot on the firm ground he motioned for her to lay and rest a while as he would finish securing this place for them and Drive away all those who would harm his mate and his yet unborn children. She was truly the perfect mate, quiet and obedient, and always counselled him wisely when he needed to hear it and he would do anything for her to assure she was comfortable.
"I will return my love rest assured." Shahryar knew little of child birth as that was women’s work, but he had no servants with him. He had left them all behind in a bloody wake when he had feared for his life. But what he knew is they needed rest and water thus he would protect them with sword and hoof. The oasis was a beautiful one; enough food to hold a small herd of equines and it didn’t look like there was anything dangerous living there. But Shah ryar knew the desert’s most dangerous came out only at night, so only time would tell. The stallion king returned to his mate feeling the place safe. He knew not of how much farther she could have gone.

Scheherazade wanted to lie down. Oh, how badly did she want to stretch out on her side. But a task once so simple a few months ago was so tiring. And took so long to do. She was even too tired to notice the tracks in the sand for herself. Now that her husband had brought it up, none of them were fresh. Her brown eyes trailed over them, the lids lowered a little in her fatigue. Some tracks were small. Like a mare. The larger set seemed to be trailing something. Like a rope attached to a saddle or some other piece of clothing on the equine. But their movements were too natural. More like a...Tail. The sweeping motions of a tail.
The mare lowered herself to lay on her stomach, grunting softly in her efforts, before speaking to Shah Ryar once more.
"I think an Alcor has been through here." Those rare and mysterious creatures she had heard so many stories about. Never in her travels had she come across one herself. She would have liked to. What a sight they must be. Tail and ears of another creature.
She sighed, shifting one leg from under her to stretch before her. "It is a perfect place to rebuild." And she really didn't think she could go another step. Scheherazade wasn't familiar with childbirth herself. She only had the one sister, not that much younger than herself. Her instincts told her she was close to the birthing stage. Without a single mare nearby to assist her.
She wouldn't admit it, but that thought scared her. All those nights spent telling her Sultan those stories felt like nothing compared to this. This that she couldn't control. This was nature. Not her careful planning.

Ryar didn't say anything but he knew she was correct an Alcor had been here however there was no return tracks, One set had arrived and two had left... The alcor must have been able to fly; the former king gave a snort how formidable could they be? The king wouldn't have the chance to find out; the tracks were old, with no sign of return even once.
Thoroughly he rounded the perimeter making sure to gather every detail... he would not miss a thing.

As Ryar left to finished examining the old tracks a head popped out of the water handsome dark eyes watching the mare who knew what was underneath that flowing black robe. But her eyes so captivating, he couldn't resist the mysterious mare. She was like a tease to him, only parts of her body could be seen, her eyes her throat and part of her legs, well shaped and beautiful from what he could see. The nova fully emerged his torso, before the mare. The Sun beat down on the nova, had there not been the oasis
“Good day, you should rest your weary self fair one, the aclor has gone.” He smiled, “Unless you are interested in a more active past time.” he spoke smoothly swimming toward the shore.
Like before with the alcor and the white maiden, Badr had seemingly forgotten to notice the stallion that had been with her moments before.

The mare using the sand as a bed let out a yawn, her eyes closing for a moment as her mouth stretched open. Because of the cloth across her face, the action didn't diminish her mysterious beauty. Only enhanced it. It was obvious she was yawning, but with her mouth hidden, the mind was still left to wonder. At the moment, she wasn't concerned with how she appeared to others. At full term, looking pretty was a low priority. Her eyes were obviously fatigued, the black around them not covering most of the tired lines around the brown orbs. Her ears flopped against her head, low enough to get the point across, but not too low as to block out the sounds around her. She kept a small bit of her hearing on Shah Ryar without moving her ears around.
She didn't hear the Nova pop out of the water. Her eyes caught him first before her hearing did. Curious, she perked her ears, turning them towards him to better hear what he was saying.
Then instantly becoming glad the robed stallion was, hopefully, too far away to hear. Or that the Nova, at least, had an escape route below the water's surface.
Shifting her position once more at a tiny hoof, Scheherazade kept her face blank underneath the cloth. Her eyes remained impassive, devoid of emotion.
"I will have to turn down any sort of movement that would require me to get up," she answered calmly, but not coldly. "Who would you be?"

Ryar continued around the perimeter it was safe, for now, who knows when that alcor may come back but from the tracks they left only one way out of the desert. he turned to go back to the center of the oasis for a moment, he could hear the water rippling. The stallion snorted maybe there was a nova in the water, how dare he come near his mate however if it was a mare it was sure to be alright, but he could hardly take that chance.
Ryar eyed the water, the greenery was obscuring his view, the stallion made his way back to the center, he couldn't leave his mate for too long.
"A shame truly, such a fine mare you are, I envy the stallion who has you as their own." the nova did catch her hint, a shame really she was such a fine creature but he wasn't that dense either, his brow rose as she asked him who he was, a roamer, a wanderer, a lover perhaps a touch mysterious in his own right.
"A very interesting question that is," he laughed lightly "I am but a simple nova, Give me a good meal, a warm place to sleep, and a nice mare to lay with. But you, are different from many I have met. Complicated." the nova paused for a moment "A queen perhaps." before he could say anymore a regal stallion draped in white cloth returned to the center of the oasis, the nova swam back from the shore he'd rather not anger the stallion who would seem to protect his mate so fiercely.
A male nova of course, Ryar returned with his sword in his mouth, he snorted at the stallion as he moved to the waters edge, that nova headed for deeper water, who knew how deep this oasis actually ran, how dare that nova approach his mate.

The Nova's words bounced off the mare like small pebbles. Not leaving a dent, merely a little sting. She was not bothered by the words. And why should she? His words were compliments, though not the kinds of compliments she normally enjoyed. Scheherazade, naturally, didn't enjoy being womanized. She was the daughter of a Vizier. Not some run-of-the-day mare with no royal links. Had she not married the Sultan, she would have been set up with another stallion of importance. Perhaps a Prince from another land in an attempt to create an alliance.
Snorting, the mare turned her head away slightly, her brown eyes still focused on the water horse. "There is never a chance it would not be." It was a signal that she wanted to be left alone. In her condition, she had less patience for the behaviors of most stallions. Already this one was beginning to tire her. And the more annoyed she got, the more the foals wanted to kick. Like they knew how she was feeling and were sharing in her irritation. Whether that was their purpose or not, it really wasn't helping.
Moving her head further back, she prodded her side and whispered hush to them before turning back to the Nova.
"Oh, you have met many, have you?" There was a smile underneath the veil that did not touch the eyes, knowing very well what those words meant. "Some would call me that, yes. Oh~" At this point Scheherazade got slowly to her feet, seeing the approach of Shah Ryar. She bowed her head at him, keeping her knees straight as bending wasn't in the cards right now. "I am pleased to see you return. How was it?"

"Many I have met, not all in such ways." he answered the pregnant mare with a smile "many stories of wolds away I can tell." The nova spoke treading in the water a distance from the shore, he knew of a way into the underground rivers that led from and fed the oasis.
"Away with you Nova," ryar said with great distaste, such a vile stallion saying such things to his mate she was far better than some common mare ever would be, something that nova would never know. "Yes, my love, and I you," Ryar paused "The alcor is long gone, I found no signs of any return to this oasis" he told his love
Ah this must be the father of the foals this fair queen was carrying "But this is here is the place I call home, would you drive a simple nova from their home?" though this place was his home he enjoyed wandering to many places seeing new sights he had seen so many things fabulous things and mares too.
"I am not just a common stallion I am a King!" Ryar fumed what an ignorant nova no common stallion would be clad in robes of the finest silk or have such fine jewelry surely this nova could see that. As one he could do what ever he liked, tough he had lost his station some time ago, he was certain to return himself to his former glory by starting a new herd, places like this were few and far between in the desert. "Such insult you give my queen..." he let the sentence trail as he thought for a moment. He had such distaste for this creature but he would not drive another from their home the same way it ad been done to them.
"No you may stay here, just away from my queen." the stallion warned the nova "Come near her again and I will see your head roll or your hooves." such a threat was very real to Ryar he wouldn't stand for another stallion touching his mate. Ryar returned to beside his mare "How are they, my love?" he spoke of his sons to be, they had to be sons he knew it, something within him told him so.
"Very gracious," Badr gave the stallion a bow. This 'king' seemed rather unstable when it came to such things as his mate, she was well protected it seemed well out of his reach it was bad for to try for another stallions mare. Such a shame.

The mention of stories caught the mare's attention. Her ears gave a little flick as her emotionless face became a little harder to hold. But after that flick, she maintained it. One was trained on the Nova while the other focused on her husband. In this one case, his paranoia had reason to make him protective. At the same time, it was annoying for her to have to deal with. Stories were her life and she was very interested to see if this water dweller knew of any she didn't. But she had committed to her cause when she agreed to become a wife of Shah Ryar. There was no going back, now. The only path was forward.
"I suspect the poor thing was lost," Scheherazade commented outloud, looking down at the tracks at her feet. "Or else the other was. I smell a mare." What a classic tale, that was. The lost damsel rescued by the strong hero. She would not be surprised to learn of the mare having given her hero her heart in return for the safe passage.
Unless it was the other way around. But it so sorely ever was. Now that would have been a story to tell.
The mare's eyes narrowed in a grimace as one of the foal's decided to give her a rather hard kick. Even her silk robe seemed to shimmer with the movement. Whoever said being pregnant was glorious forgot to mention this part.
"Still strong. The journey seems to have phased them not." Most from her homeland would have said that was a good sign of sons. She felt less certain and couldn't help wishing for a daughter or two. If anything just to prove the superstitions wrong.

Badr threaded a little further from the shore to say a distance away from the angry king. At least he wasn't going to be removed from his home, and who knew if they were to set up a herd here there would be more mares around, could have potential, he could bring them lovely jewels and fine silks, he knew a few places to get them certainly. he was still a well traveled stallion even now.
"Ah yes, doubtful the alcor claimed this place as his own territory." Ryar spoke softer to his queen, Scheherazade was the only mare he respected and put his faith in entirely, though he couldn't show it in public, such was befitting of a king to show weakness. Something like before may have happened again, an assassin sent in the guise of a woman he thought he had loved.
He would never allow that to happen again. That incident had cut him deeper than the knife she'd tried to kill him with, the betrayal. He knew Scheherazade was different than that, a mare worthy of being his queen. He would still never show any weakness while other's eyes were on him, but she knew that and he secretly thanked her. The stallion glared at the Nova "Away," he commanded sternly. Badr Basim frowned slightly but gave a bow and vanished beneath the oasis, down into the underwater tunnel.
Ryar gave a nod as he watched the nova vanish, "Good they will need it, but we will go no further, this place will be where our new life begins." He told her though he wasn't sure how far the nova had gone so he kept his cold demeanor. "This is where our new herd will reside." He said standing over his queen.
