As promised, a bit after the class had ended, the reaper was waiting for Junko outside of the reaper dorm, staring down at the jar that held one of the dust bunnies from class in it. Hmm…the dust bunny didn’t seem all that active after she had caught it…Hel shook the jar like a salt shaker, watching as the dust bunny hit the cork and then the bottom of the jar a few times. It seemed in a daze, its eyes spiraling as it just flopped over in the bottom on its cage. Huh. Was this really what was causing the chaos in class?
She would see once they actually started studying them. For now, Hel stuffed the jar into an apron pocket and waited for Junko, tapping her foot. They lived at the same dorm building (or so she thought!) it wouldn’t take her too long for her to appear, right? Unfortunately for Junko, someway somehow, Hel was under the impression that she was a reaper as well.

Junko was doing her best to be quick. She was going to take Sayuri for her walk before visiting Hel, but then Lizzy had texted her asking her to sign on HIM and then that had taken up the entire hour. Great. Um. Now what? She called Seiji to ask if he would take Sayuri out for a walk for her but he had flat out refused, even with Junko's pleading. Siiiiiigh! Boils were so stupid. Hopefully Hel wouldn't mind a little extra company in the form of a tiny purple pygmy fox that was prancing around Junko's feet, tugging against her leash and yipping and yapping. She wasn't unhappy, she was excited. Every now and then she would even trip and roll around, forcing Junko to either tug and drag her or...wait for her to figure out how to get up on her feet again.
Under one arm Junko carefully held her jar, only holding one dust bunny at the moment. The baby one. The parents were put into another container. A box that would give them privacy.
They truly were rabbits...
Sayuri was the first to spot the ghoul standing outside of the dorm, Junko had been preoccupied with not dropping the jar. It was this that allowed the fox to free her leash from Junko's hand and go darting toward the valkyrie, yipping with excitement. Once she was close enough she leaped, resting her paws on Hel's shin with her puffy tail wagging so far it was almost just a blur of purple. She pranced, she hopped, she leaned, she danced on her hind legs. She was happy. Junko gasped, hurrying after the fox. "Oh, Jack! I'm sorry, Hel! Um. This is Sayuri. She's...excitable." More like special. "I hope it's okay I brought her? I got distracted when I meant to take her for a walk and, well, never got around to it..."

Hel’s attention was on Junko as the ghoul finally appeared, and the reaper couldn’t help but look impressed as Junko’s…’familiar’ came up to her. The valkyrie laughed, staring down at the excitable fox before kneeling and reaching out to pet her. Oh Jack, this was really cool! She’d never met a reaper with a familiar before! “It’s alright, friend!” Hel replied cheerfully up at the other ghoul as she finally approached, happily petting Sayuri. She reminded her of Mac’s scareon pups! Very friendly!
“Oh, yes, that’s perfectly alright! She’s your familiar after all, I understand wanting to keep her close by!” Yes, because Junko was totally a reaper, and seeing this little fox just reaffirmed that in Hel’s mind.

Oh, good. Hel was okay with Sayuri. Junko breathed a sigh of relief at how welcoming Hel was toward her silly little pygmy fox. She was so nice! The ghoul was very, very glad to be partners with Hel. Junko was smiling as she approached the pair, watching as Sayuri tilted her head toward the petting hand. She just kept tilting...and tilting...and..tilting..ah, there she does. The fox soon found herself falling over with a squeak, looking up at Hel and Junko with such confusion. How did she get down here?! Oh. Maybe Junko and Hel just got bigger. Yes! That had to be it!
Junko giggled, though Hel's words had her pausing. Wait. "Familiar? She's..not my familiar." She tilted her head to one side, even her hair lifted to match. Wait, did Hel mean like a reaper familiar? Oh dear. Hel thought...she was a reaper.
"She's just my minipet. One of a few I have back in my room, actually. Ah...what made you think she's my familiar?"

Aww…that was really cute how Sayuri tilted her head and then uh…fell over. Hel paused, staring down at the fox with wide eyes before she laughed. She reached out to pick her up, but paused. Oh wait! Junko might not appreciate her just picking up her familiar without permission! Hel was very respectful of reapers and their weapons and familiars…she wouldn’t like it if someone just started touching her spear without asking. “May I pick her up, friend?”
At Junko’s words though, it was Hel’s turned to tilt her head. Wait…Sayuri wasn’t her familiar? Oh! Did this mean Junko had a weapon then!? The reaper’s expression became excited as she stared up at Junko with a hopeful expression. “Oh, my mistake friend! What kind of weapon do you have, then?” She asked, rather eager to know now. Homework? Pfft, that took a backseat right now to the current conversation at hand.

"Of course~!" Junko replied, watching Sayuri with a smile. She was very glad she brought her now; Junko didn't take the fox out very often other than to take her walks, so usually the only time Sayuri had a chance to play with and interact with anyone new was whenever Junko had visitors in her own room. Unfortunately it seemed telling Hel that Sayuri wasn't her familiar wasn't enough. She forgot that reapers also had weapons.
Junko giggled nervously and shook her head. "Sad faces and tears? I don't know. But um..." She shifted from one foot to the other. "I think there's been a misunderstanding. I'm a monster, not a reaper." She felt bad now. Was that why Hel was so excited to be working with her? Because she thought she was a reaper? Oh no! Should she have just pretended to be a reaper?! What if Hel didn't want to work with her anymore because she was a monster? Damn!

Once she was given permission, Hel grinned happily as she scooped the little pygmy fox right up, cradling it to her chest as she stood then. Oooh, she was so soft! The reaper never really handled mini-pets like these before, so it was an exciting experience.
Her attention was right back on Junko with as soon as Sayuri was secure in her arms, and she watched the ghoul with anticipation, looking confused at the ‘sad faces and tears’ part. Uh…and when the truth came out, Hel looked disappointed. She wasn’t disappointed in Junko though, no, she was disappointed in herself! Oops! Well, that was an uninformed assumption on her part, but Hel hated being wrong. The reaper frowned a bit, looking a bit sheepish as she cradled Sayuri with one arm and rubbed the back of her neck with the other. “Ah…” Hel started. “…You…had me fooled, friend!” She conceded after a moment. “…I really thought you were a reaper!” Junko was pretty humanoid in appearance and Sayuri looked like a familiar! Though at the confession that she was actually a monster, Hel looked surprised.
“Really?” She echoed curiously. Junko could totally pass off as a demon too as far as Hel was concerned! Even though it was now known that Junko wasn’t a reaper, it should be worth noting that this didn’t seem to deter that Hel was happy that she was her partner. The reaper stepped closer to her, and now seemed to be peering at her in a new light “So…what exactly makes you a monster?” She questioned the ghoul, eager to find that out now.

Sayuri yipped and wagged her tail some more as she was picked up, snuggling against the reaper and making happy little churring noises. Snuggles! She liked snuggles!
Junko saw the disappointment and her heart raced. She was nervous now, so very anxious. She wrecked it. She ruined everything. Hel was disappointed she wasn't partnered with a reaper and she was even more disappointed that Junko had tricked her! Unwittingly but it had been done all the same. The frown was tearing at her heart and making her hold the jar tighter and tighter. And then she spoke, saying how Junko had fooled her and she thought she was a reaper. Oh, Jack. She ruined everything. Junko: Ruiner of Things. All the things! It was time to collect Sayuri and leave from the looks of it. She'd just...hope Savage would allow her to submit her own findings by herself. Would she get in trouble for not working with Hel? "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't know you...um...y-you're the second to think that! Haha. In this very spot, even. I think it's because I look so human-like.." Junko paused and suddenly seemed to perk up. It was because she looked so human-like! Just like the reapers! Yes! That was the solution! Junko smiled, hugging the jar to her chest. Yes! Perfect!
"This is perfect! If I look human then when I go to the human world they'll think I'm one of them!" All the better for scaring later! "Thank you for the compliment, Hel! I very much appreciate it~! But yes, I'm a monster...um..." Junko glanced back at her hair. It had been moving the entire time, yes. Gently sways and twirls and wriggling and writhing. But other than that... "I have a mouth in the back of my head." She really hoped she didn't have to show Her.

Oh Jack, Junko seemed to be getting nervous for some reason, and Hel wasn’t sure why. She couldn’t help but chuckle though as Sayuri snuggled against her, and waved her free hand at the ghoul reassuringly. “N..no, it’s alright friend, really! I know it wasn’t with the intention to deceive…” Just a big misunderstanding, really.
Hel blinked the ghoul suddenly seemed to perk up, and then take a very positive spin on her appearance. “Yes…you do.” The reaper agreed with a nod. “You uh…” Hel didn’t like to admit the possibility that someone was better at something than her, but after the worry Junko seemed to have, it’d be worth it to mention? “You could uh…pass and blend in for a human more than I could…” With the split tone and wings, it’d be rather hard. Junko could easily blend into a crowd and then sneak upon unsuspecting humans! At the mention of the mouth at the back of her head, Hel made an ‘oh’ expression.
“Ah…alright!” That was rather interesting though, and right now she was content enough with that explanation. “…Shall we get to observing then, friend?” Hel offered with a wide smile.

Junko just felt really bad for unwittingly deceiving Hel like that. It wasn't as if it had been her intention but Hel just looked so excited. Sigh. But thankfully Hel didn't seem too bothered, at least from what Junko could see. She didn't realize the other ghoul had a hard time admitting when someone did something better than she did. Junko was just glad things had been worked out and the awkwardness didn't last terribly long. As Hel commented about not doing well in the human world Junko tilted her head to one side, looking the ghoul up and down. "...You could wear makeup...and gloves. The hair is fine though, I bet. Humans are weird. I think you look lovely, Hel." Junko told her honestly, giving her a warm smile as she gestured toward the building behind Hel. "After you~!"She followed the reaper into the building, her eyes on the small wings protruding from her lower back. They were so pretty. Would..would she get mad if she touched them? They looked so soft! Could she? Could she pet them? Wide eyes darted to the back of Hel's head before falling back down to her wings again. Maybe..maybe if she asked. Unfortunately by the time she got the courage to do so they had reached Hel's room and she decided to just drop it. There would be other chances. She could hang out with Hel again later, yeah? Once they were inside and settled Junko slipped off her sandals and looked down at the jar. "I wonder if it's safe to let them go..." She gave Hel a glance and shrugged a bit, slowly uncorking the jar. The baby dust bunny hopped into the hand that reached in for it, wigging in her gentle grasp until it was close to the floor. Unfortunately the moment it was released it darted off in a random direction. ...Or was it so random? It found a pair of long black stockings and bounced hurriedly to them, its tooth-filled mouth widening to take in one end and...slurp the stocking up like a string of spaghetti. "...I..am so sorry...I'll buy you new stockings..." Junko stared, eyes wide.

The reaper looked a bit surprised when Junko offered up suggestions for blending into the human world, but what really caught her off guard was when Junko called her lovely. Her eyes widened for a moment, and she looked stunned before a wide grin spread across her face, and she reached up rub her nose with her thumb, chuckling lightly. “Thank you, friend.” She replied sincerely, feeling rather touched and quickly cheered up from the ghoul’s honest compliment. “ Yes, let’s!” Hel led Junko into the reaper dorm, up three flights of stairs, and finally down a hall to her room. Once back in there, she threw off her boots and pulled out stuff like a few notebooks and pens, and settled onto the floor after fishing out her dust bunny in a jar as well. At Junko’s question, the reaper just gave a shrug. “ Worst case we’ll just have to catch them again, yes?” She didn’t seem too troubled by this, considering she had little to no trouble catching them in class. Hel watched as Junko let hers out of the jar, and decided to let hers out as well…er…it was still laying kind of comatose on the bottom. Hel’s brows furrowed as she unscrewed the lid, and then shook it again, upside down so that the dust bunny tumbled out and lay motionless on the floor. Oh my… Her attention was diverted from her motionless dust bunny though, as she instead looked over at Junko’s…which was eating a stocking she had happened to leave on the floor. “… You little mother jacker!” The reaper snapped, clutching her pen tightly as she watched it slurp on her stocking like a noodle. They really did eat socks! Her attention turned back to Junko though, and she waved a hand at her. “ Oh, no, don’t worry about it friend…it’s not your fault…” She shot a dirty look over at the stocking eating thing, and then snapped her gaze over to her own dust bunny which was…munching on a piece of beef jerky? Where did it get that from!? Oh well…at least it was moving. Hel’s brows furrowed as she then set to work on jotting notes down.

Junko frowned as Hel got annoyed about the bunny eating her stocking. She couldn't blame her, Junko would be just as angry if a creature ate her stuff. At Hel's assurance that it wasn't her fault she gave a sheepish little smile and looked down at the bunnies now, noticing that one of them had some weird chewy snack to gnaw on. What was that? She'd never seen that kind of snack before! Junko followed Hel down to the floor, opening her book to write her own notes and observations. So far? Dust bunnies ate socks. But when the bunny finished the stocking it..didn't look at all interested in the matching stocking. No. Not at all. Its beady red eyes were on a different pair of stockings, one of which it began to slowly roll its way toward.
"So..they only eat one sock from a pair." Junko felt so bad. "Do you think that goes the same for any pairs of things...?" Junko glanced down at the notes Hel was writing, humming curiously. Weird bunnies. She placed a jar over her own bunny at one point, noticing that it went still and quiet once inside the jar. This was a theory she tested several times. She even let Sayuri chase the bunnies around the room.
...It was for science.
After a few hours it seemed they had learned quite a bit about these dust bunnies. Overall? They were pests. Adorable, but pests none the less. Junko finally sighed and put her bunny back into its jar, corking it and turning to Hel. "Well that was certainly interesting! I'm really sorry about the stockings..I'll get you new ones, I promise." Not that a new pair could replace the missing single socks but it was the thought that mattered. She eventually sat up and then pushed herself up to stand again, spotting Sayuri who was now fast asleep on Hel's bed. Oh, thank Jack. "At least with her sleeping I don't have to fuss with her too much. Thank you for being my partner, Hel! We should hang out again sometime~." Junko grinned, picking up the sleeping pygmy fox and cradling her in one arm. "I'll see you around, yeah?" She would wait for Hel to say her own goodbyes before she left.

Oh Jack no! It was not getting another one of her stockings! Hel scrambled up from the floor to pick up the pair and tossed it in a drawer, along with the lone stocking that survived the Dust Bunny consumption. The reaper slammed the dresser drawer shut with a satisfying CLACK, and stared down at the dust bunny victoriously. “Hah!” She sneered. “In your little dusty face!”
After that, she joined Junko back on the floor, and continued to jot down her own notes. “I suppose so, friend!” The reaper commented back, also jotting this down, and she was just enthralled when Junko even let Sayuri chase the dust bunnies around the room. Further vengeance! Hel liked Sayuri even more after that. All in the name of science though. The dust bunnies would be sure to receive cake and grief consoling after this was all over.
Not.
Over the next few hours, Hel spent the time observing, conversing, and comparing notes with Junko, and honestly, came to the came conclusion she did. The reaper stuffed her dust bunny back into the jar when Junko put hers away, watching as it went nearly comatose again when in the jar. Huh…did it have a food baby too? Oh well. “It was!” Hel agreed, grinning over at the ghoul, and gave another dismissive wave of her hand. “Truly, don’t worry about it! It’s alright!” Once again, it wasn’t Junko’s fault her stocking was devoured. The reaper stood when Junko did, watching as she picked up Sayuri. “No, thank you!” Hel replied happily and gave a firm nod of her head enthusiastically. “I agree! We’ll plan for it one day, friend!” She saw the ghoul and her pet to the door, and waved after her. “Have a good day, I’ll see you!”
After that, the reaper retreated back into her room and summed up her notes about the dust bunnies onto a new pages before collecting her things and getting ready to turn in her finding to Professor Savage.
