Penwakani was lost.

This in itself was not something to worry about – since leaving her mother and her pride at adolescence, she'd gotten lost countless times in her search for herself.

This time, however, she was lost...in a desert.

Not good. Not good at all.

Her purple eyes scanned the sandy landscape with some worry. She could survive in a forest – she'd grown up in one, after all. She could even cope in the Savannah, or the grasslands, but a desert had her nervous.

Okay Pen,” she tried to give herself a pep talk as she began to walk towards a nearby sheltering tree – that seemed quite lifeless and dead. “You can do this. What did you tell mum when you left? That you'd be fine. You can do this. It's just a bit of sand...Okay, a lot of sand....Alright, a whole load of sand, but that's nothing to worry about.”

She flopped down beneath the pitiful shelter that the tree offered, staring at the sandy surface of the landscape with wide eyes.

Nothing to worry about at all.”

She was so screwed, she groaned, and flopped down in the sand completely, burying her head in her paws.

On the other hand Bakari wasn't lost, he was actually very much at home. he lived in the desert and he had his entire life. He knew the good places to stop and where he could get water and everything like that. He knew where to go in the pride for shade and he enjoyed living in the pride. He loved wandering around in the pride not only that but that was one of his jobs, he was supposed to wander around the pride and see what he could do and take care of it . When he could take care of the pride he felt proud and at the same time he could do something he liked to do and that, at the moent, was wander around the pride and see if anything was needed to be done.

As he wandered he spotted something, something that he was familiar with but didn't know. he had seen lions wandering around the pride, there were tons of them, however he was at least pretty sure of what a good amount of them looked like, however this lioness that he was looking at was quite the mystery. She was pretty, however that didn't mean that he knew her or not, he really didn't know her at all and she didn't like that. He wished he could just approach this lioness and strike up a conversation but female or not he knew that there was a chance that she was extremely dangerous and he wasn't going to take his chances, he couldn't take his chances, he knew that she very well could be dangerous so he knew no matter what he had to take a moment and take care of the situation and make sure that the pirde was going to be safe.

She continued to talk to herself, both internally and verbally. Her internal conversation was far more pessimistic than her external one. "You're going to be fine, Pen. Just stay where you are, in the shade, until night falls and then it won't nearly be as hot!" She mumbled, confidently.

I'll just freeze to death instead, she thought instantly, cringing at the idea. Ooh, the desert was going to get cold, she realised, her eyes getting wide. She'd been wandering for a while, but nights hadn't been too freezing cold, but in the desert.

I'm doomed, doomed, doomed, Pen groaned inwardly, but forced the thoughts down from becoming verbal.

"Fine, we're going to be just...fine."

She scanned the landscape again, a blob of colour catching her eye but she dismissed it as a mirage, or a rock, or a tree, or just her going crazy. At this point, she was betting on the first or the last one, neither was a particularly good option.

She sighed, and pressed herself further back under the tree, trying to get further into the pathetic amount of shade.

Bakari watched the lioness very carefully, he knew that he had to do something at this point. She really didn't seem like she knew what she was doing, she knew that she was going to have to so something or go see what she was doing. He knew it for a fact and he knew tha the reallt had no other choice. If she was dangerous he was going to find out but at the same time if she wasn't he didn't want to take his chances and let her get hurt. He flicked his tail around a few times behind him before he started to wander in her direction. Keeping an ear out for anything, if she was going to call for help.

As he wandered he didn't hear any calls for help but he heard something else, It was odd but it sounded like she was talking to herself. Was she? He wasn't even sure and if she was. He took a second and looked around, he didn't see anyone else and it didn't appear as if she knew that he was around. He started for a moment before speaking to her. "Ma'am?" He called out, he was pretty sure that she wasn't aware of him being around. he was pretty sure of it anyway. He kept his distance though, watching her not wanting to get that close, he didn't want to get into a fight today. He wasn't going to take his chances.

Convinced that what she'd seen was a mirage, or her going crazy, or something equally bad, she didn't glance up when she heard something approach - which she later would scold herself about, but for now, she was content thinking she was crazy - until he spoke.

Her ears perked up and she couldn't help but jump a little, startled by the unfamiliar voice. Her eyes glanced up, and went wide. Oh....OH! A stranger. She'd never been so happy to see a strange face.

She beamed. "Hello Sir!" She should be polite, make sure to be nice, maybe then he'd save her or at least lead her out of the desert - or just not attack her. "Gosh, am I glad to see you!" She couldn't keep the relief out of her voice.

"I thought I was all alone out here in the desert!" She pushed herself up onto her paws, shaking free some of the sand which clung to her, before continuing to beam at him.

Bakari looked at the female before nodding to her with a smile on his face. She seemed really friendly to him. She could have been, of course a very mean lioness, a horrible lioness, however she was doing very great hiding that at the moment. He trusted that she wasn't going to be that bad, he was going to trust her enough to get to know her and help her out. He was pretty sure that she was lost. Normally the way these lands around the pride worked was that who ever came around here was either lost or they were going to join the pride. And by the way it looked she didn't come here for the pride.

He flicked his hair out of his eyes and then he nodded at her a large smile. He was normally a friendly lion. He looked around. "Are you a little lost?" He asked curiously before chuckling a little. He couldn't help but to be amused at the idea of a lost lion. He felt a little bad but there was one thing for sure and that was that he knew that he was raised here and because of that it was much easier to find his way around the pride. He nodded at her once again before speaking once again. "There are actually a lot of us around here." He stated to her with a chuckle. "There is an entire pride not to far off fromhere."

Her ears flicked down in embaressment at his chuckle and question of being lost, but she tried to fluster through it. "'Lost? Me? Noooo, never, I just..." she paused, trying to phrase what she'd done delicately "...I just...momentarily misplaced where I was...momentarily." It sounded ridiculous, even to her own ears, so she shot him a sheepish grin, her tail flicking low behind her.

She blinked. "There's a whole pride out here?" She clarified, eyes wide. Wow, people actually chose to live in the desert? She peered at him. "What do they do out here? I mean...how do you even support a whole pride in this kind of landscape?" She wasn't really expecting answers, she was just slightly awed by the idea.

What a strange thought...A pride of desert dwelling lions...maybe they'd all gotten lost like her and just decided 'what the heck' and started a pride. She stiffled a grin, the idea amusing her.

Bakari chuckled a little at what the lioness was saying. She nodded at her and then chuckled a little, flicking her hair out of his eyes and then smiled brightly at her. "That wasn't the first time I've heard some one say that." He teased he wanted to make sure that she knew that he was just kidding, he had a feeling that she knew that he was just kidding. He was hoping so anyway.

He paused as he looked around. "You seemed to be pretty lost but that is okay." He smiled once again and nodded at her while he did before speaking and flicking her hair out of her eyes and speaking to her once again. "Yes, surprisingly there is a large prideof lions out here." He nodded once again then smiled a little before adding more too that. "the worst is that it gets really hot out here and when that happens it gets a little rough." He thought about it for a moment. "I mean maybe it is a lot worse then I'm making it sound, however I'm used to it, it doesn't seem that bad to me." He chuckled once again with a nod before flicking his hair out of his eyes and then looked at the lioness. "Honesetly it's nice out here, it is a nice pride a very sweet pride I love it." He nodded at the idea.

She gave him a sheepish smile, knowing she had been caught out at being lost, and not particularly minding. He didn't seem like he was going to be mean about it to her, so it was fine. Clearly, he was used to people getting lost. She smiled lightly.

She glanced over his shoulder as he spoke about the pride, surprised. "Wow, that sounds really interesting!" She announced brightly. "Do they allow visitors? I mean, while I'm out here, 'not being lost', it would be fascinating to see it." She flushed. "I mean, it that was alright, of course."

She hadn't even thought of there being a pride of lions in the desert, it seemed too hot and unforgiving for her to think of it seriously, but now that she had. Well, like she said, it seemed interesting and she had already made it this far into the desert, why not go all the way and see it all?
