Lynde sighed as he looked up onto the hill. The day was still young so there wasn't too much blinding for the eyes when the sunlight hit the morning dew. He clenched his Mareep doll that was wrapped tightly at his side and played with the ribbon around his neck. He needed that revival herb for the family that he lived with; they needed it for one of their Pokemon helpers! The lady at the market wouldn't even talk to him about it.
He was quite used to getting ignored, but he was determined to get that herb, even if it meant climbing the hill himself. Taking a deep breath, Lynde put one hand on the rocks, steadied himself, and lifted himself off the ground, onto the side of the mountain. It was easy for him to climb, but his skin was getting irritated from the rocks. Some skin got caught in between some rocks and it ended up causing him to bleed.
A few feet off the ground, he had to let go. Lynde had no choice in the matter, really. He couldn't afford to buy gloves that could protect his hands. Plus, the money wasn't his. It was the festival family's.
With a sigh, he sat down on the ground and curled up. He didn't want to give up, but while he looked as his hand, Lynde that he had no chance of climbing up that far with a cut that large. A sense of failure loomed over his head, and he knew he wouldn't go back until he got that herb. Lynde was tempted to rip off some of his clothes to use as a bandage, but the family couldn't afford to get him new clothes... What now?

Corydon hummed lightly to himself as he walked along the path through the valley. He idly nudged at a few patches of grass with his toe, wondering if there were any wild pokemon in the area that he could battle for practice. But, as this area seemed to prove mostly vacant anyway, he decided he wasn't as interested in that activity as he originally had thought.
Instead, it occurred to him that he'd rather enjoy his day with the company of another part-human, part-pokemon like himself, someone he could communicate with, and that would understand him. So he felt fortunate when he rounded the curve of the path to see a pair of brightly striped ears poking out of the huddled ball of person on the ground in front of him.
Of course, the excitement soon faded in exchange for concern when he spotted the red trickling down the other boy's hand. "Hey!" he called out as he closed the distance between them, inquiring, "are you ok?"

Lynde was looking down at his hand as he heard someone call out to him. As he glanced around, he noticed that it seemed to be another male... Someone that was like a Gijinka like himself! With his travels, he had seen a lot, but from his memory, he couldn't remember meeting another 'like' him. He looked up at the other with a small smile. "I just... hurt my hand kind of badly. I kind of wished I learned 'Rock Climb' or something as a Mareep... If I could..."
He laughed a little at his situation and looked back up the hill. His eyes were filled with determination, but he had no idea how he was going to get up there. Lynde looked down at his hands again and stood up. "I have to try again!"
Once again he tried to climb up the rocky wall. But with his hands even more in pain and only managing to get a little higher. He came back down and sighed. "Sometimes I wish I was just a Mareep again..."

The glaceon boy pouted as he watched the mareep boy try to scale the rocks with his injured hands. He shook his head and started unwrapping some of the bindings from his chest. He tore off two pieces of the strip of fabric with his teeth and reached out to take the blond boy's hands to wrap them.
"Now, what fun would that be?" he asked playfully, trying to catch eye contact while he worked. "Being a gijinka has been so much fun for me. I get to talk to people, and I have thumbs! Thumbs are so helpful when adventuring!"

Lynde looked at the Glaceon and smiled a little bit more; he was enjoying how cheerful the Glaceon's attitude was. It was just that with his travels, besides being able to talk to and smile at little kids that he'd sell plushies to, the adults and others that appeared to be his age didn't seem to like him that much.
He twiddled his own two thumbs as he looked at the scratches on them. "I have to agree with that. They are a lot more useful than me carrying everything in my mouth or small things on my back like before. But it doesn't mean it's not hard..."
Again, Lynde looked up. "I still wish I could climb though," he said with a sigh. "I really need to get that herb! The family that I'm living with really need it for one of their Pokemon helpers..."
His voice was filled with determination yet was sad at the same time. "But the marketplace lady wouldn't even talk to me about it!"

Corydon furrowed his brow, "That's not very nice of her. Are you sure she's not just hard of hearing?" He wanted to believe that there wasn't someone out there that was giving this creature a hard time for no reason.
He looked up the sharp hill, spotting the small patch of herbs jutting out of the rock face, almost like they wanted to be picked. "Ok then!" he said, quickly and loudly, "let's climb! You don't need a move for this silly ol' hill!" He grasped the other boy by the shoulders with both hands and turned him to face the rock face again.

"I don't think so... I normally try to be as 'normal' as I can be around them but the lady didn't seem to really want to look at me." Lynde looked down at the ground. Why was he being scorned for being different? He liked interacting with humans. Well, at least those that were willing to interact back with him.
Lynde watched as he looked at the Glaceon with a surprised expression. He understood that the Glaceon was another Gijinka like him, but besides the little girl he lived with that helped him, no one was really there to help him. Instead, Lynde tried his best to help others.
"I want to learn how to climb. I tried, but..." He brought up his scratched hands towards the Glaceon's face. "I don't think I did a very good job climbing if I managed to hurt myself this much." Lynde did want to climb though. He wanted to make the climb so he could bring back the medicine.
He remembered the money that was jingling in his pockets and pulled it out. "This money was given to me by the family that I live with for the medicine... If you can help me with it, do you want it... Mister?" Poor Lynde didn't really know what to call the Glaceon or how to address him. "I mean, I don't really need the money myself, anyways..."

"No, put that away. I'm not helping you for the reward," he frowned, "I'm helping you because you needed it." He'd much prefer to be seen as a hero than a mercenary. Besides, he had enough money to support his travels.
He put his hands supportively on the boy's hips, pushing him towards the rock again, "I'll show you how to get up this rock, just trust me." He scanned the surface for a path of the best hand holds up to the top. "My name's Corydon, by the way, and you'll want to start by grabbing that knob sticking out on your right there."

The money in his hand... Lynde felt bad for keeping it because Corydon was helping him so much. It made him curious though, since he had never really made another friend, except the little girl and her family that Lynde also considered family. "I wonder if he's my first Gijinka friend..."
Lynde tucked the money back into his pocket. He wanted to get rid of the money, mostly because then the festival family wouldn't ask why he still had the money and how he'd still have the revival herb. They trusted him and he didn't want them to think he stole them or anything, even though the family knew that he was kind of a chicken and wouldn't do that in the first place. But if Corydon didn't want it, there was nothing he could really do.
"T-thank you, Corydon." Lynde looked back and smiled. "My name is Lynde, but you're free to just call me Lyn."
He looked to the right where Corydon was talking about. Even though his hands still hurt, he lifted his right hand and grasped the knob carefully. "You were talking about this one, right?"

Corydon felt proud of himself for getting Lynde to try the rock face again, and said, "You're welcome, Lyn." He had trouble understanding how someone could be so timid, when he would have already been up the rock face and down again, but he felt he could lend the mareep some of his strength until he found his own.
"Yes, that's the right one," he assured as the other boy took the right rock in his hand. "Now make sure you have good support for your feet, since your hands aren't in good shape," he tutored. "There's a crack over there you should be able to wedge your toes in and lift yourself up," he said as he gestured in the right direction before returning his hands to Lynde's hips. "I've got you for now," he added, squeezing slightly in reassurance.

Although he was gaining some confidence in climbing, Lynde couldn't help but shake a little bit. He wanted to succeed so bad, but it didn't mean he wasn't afraid at the same time. Listening to Corydon's word's carefully, he looked down, using his good hand to hold tighter onto the rocks, and found the crack on the wall and managed to stick his small toes firmly in. A few seconds later, when he felt more comfortable, Lynde lifted himself, holding his body tight against the wall.
"L-like this, right?" Lynde asked as he looked back down at Corydon. Lynde was so proud of himself, even though others may have thought it to be a small accomplishment. He looked down near his other foot and looked on the wall. When he found a spot that seemed like it could hold him, he stuck that food in too.
The Mareep gijinka smiled to himself. "I-think I'm doing it!" Lynde was so happy that he could climb, even a little bit, he forgot the awkwardness of being touched. The only one that had even given him a hug was the little girl in the family that he worked with. "I-I'm still kind of scared of doing this though..."

"Don't be scared," Corydon cheered him on, "I'm not even supporting your weight now, you're doing it on your own." He left his hands on Lynde's body, to make him feel secure still, but offered no more lift.
"You're going to have to take the last few steps without much help, but if you fall, I'll be here to catch you," he patted the other boy's leg reassuringly. "You're doing fantastic!" he really hoped he wouldn't have to catch him, but he thought maybe the mareep was slender enough that he wouldn't be weighed down too badly in the event of a slip. He was sure he could react fast enough, though, so at least he would take the damage of the fall instead of Lynde.

With a deep breath and Corydon's words of encouragement, Lynde continued to lift himself up on the wall. He knew that Corydon was there for him if he needed it, but Lynde felt like he had to learn to do something by himself. Like a lot of other people, he was afraid of failure, but accepted it easier than success.
Lynde moved his left foot upward, trying to find another stable hole in the rock wall to latch onto. He did so with success, and tried again with his right foot when his hands were secure. As he tried to lift himself up again, the hole gave up under his weight and Lynde could feel himself falling.
He tucked in his hands and arms as he prepared himself for the fall. "I knew this would happen!"
