Soileana stood upon a boulder, the size of a small bird, and sang to the moon above. Twilight and midnight were her favorite times of day, so this was when she was the most active. Some thought the dark to be dangerous, harboring all sorts of evil, but to Sol, it was a relaxing time full of new colors and hidden secrets. The song she sang was slow and lilting- one could almost call it haunting. She sang of a lonely willow tree, "It mourns the forest that it once dwelt/ It mourns the birds that had left their nests/ and flew away ..." The song slowly wound down to its final notes and echoed through the trees, blending into the silence until not a sound could be heard. With a gentle sigh, Sol fluttered her wings and began to wonder what song would find its way into her heart next.

Sophia found herself... almost sad. Her heart heavy and upset as she considered her brothers words. You have nothing special about you Sophia... why do you think others find you so boring? The truth was that her brother hadn't meant to hurt her, he never would except he had.... she couldn't help but see the truth of them, and that was the problem.
As a child Sophia had been sickly and weak, protected by her family and herd from the dangers of the world in fear that it would overwhelm her. Sophia had always felt a little too protected, and because of that she was sure it had resulted in her lack of skills. Sure, Sophia had been taught to dance as her childhood had developed, but all the children of the Miakoda herd were.
With a soft sigh she continued to wander. It was then that a uplifting noise reached her ears. Music.
Sophia had always loved music... and so found herself drawn to it. She didn't fear the darkness, after all she had been brought up to live in the dark.... for the Miakoda herd found strength in the Moon. Sophia had heard stories about the songs of birds but they didn't tend to sing at night.... yet even as that thought crossed her mind she couldn't help but wonder if this time she had been lucky enough to find one that sung at night. "Hello?" She called out, a smile on her face, "Little birdy?"

Sol thought of little Karloff as she looked up at the moon and wondered how her adopted son was coming along. She found herself thinking of him more and more as of late. It was then that another song found its way into her heart and just as she was about to take a breath and continue her serenade to the moon, a small voice sounded from behind her.
Sol flicked her ear in the direction of the voice and turned her head ever so slightly, not in the least bit surprised or afraid of this unknown new Soq. She was not the type to question encounters, for she believed that every encounter happened for a reason.
"Good evening, little one. Ah, well... perhaps I am the little one... let me fix that..." Soileana lilted in reply, her voice both musical and warm. Closing her eyes, the flutter called upon the power of her ancestors to regain her usual size. In a flourish of glittering dust and a gentle glowing light, Sol grew back to the size of a petite mare, ever so slightly larger than the young adult before her. "There... I am no bird, though it flatters me to think I could pass off as one..." she continued, neither hindering nor advancing the conservation. It was this young mare who would do that. Sol did not pry, she simply let things go with the flow.

The adolencent heart of Sophia was amazed at the sight before her... dust, magic, power, the air practically fizziled on fire with it. She gasped, having never seem its equal before... she had heard stories within her herd of flutters, and even seen a flutter or two pass through the lands but none had ever shared their magic of shrinking and growing with her. It was... amazing.
Of course her amazement was soon replaced with mild embarassement... and for some reason Sophia felt as if she was spying on the other mare, who now in full form appeared to be made of grey and off-whites, almost like old snow. She was beautiful. With a blow Sophia caused the fringe to blow out of her eyes, it had been growing so much lately that Sophia feared it would never stop.
"Sorry...." A bright red blush covered her cheeks, "I didn't mean to call you little.... or to interupt.... I...." Sophia found herself looking at the grass by her feet, she wasn't sure what to do or say and part of her wanted to turn around and run away as quickly as her delicate legs could manage.

Soileana watched the young mare before her serenely, waiting for her to recover from the surprise of seeing what she thought was a bird turn into a flutter. It was not until the girl's apparent embarrassment set in that Sol realized she may have overwhelmed her. The fluttercorn was not the sort to think of how others might perceive her; she felt comfortable in her own skin and everything she did was never to show off, it was simply done to be done.
Looking away from the pretty little angeni, Sol turned her head skyward and gazed at the stars. "It is a lovely night... I do love the crescent moon... bright enough to shed some light, yet not quite as overbearing as when it is full..." she murmured lyrically, feeling that if she ignored the young one's embarrassment, it might disappear. There was, after all, little to no reason to be embarrassed around Soileana. She never judged. With a side-long glance, Sol prompted the young one indirectly to give her own opinion of the moon.

Sophia found herself slowly becoming more comfortable... especially as the Moon was mentioned. Her eyes went to the sky straight away, and sure enough there was the glowing Cresent Moon, almost like a cheshire cats smile shining down on the world below. It was one of the many reasons why she loved the night, the Moon was always changing just like the world it overlooked where as the Sun tended to stay constant... a ball of fire so bright and hot that it brought all the colour back into the world.... but Sophia actually enjoyed the darker hues of the night.
With a soft smile she spoke, her eyes never leaving the sky. " The Moon is forever a protector... it is glorious in all forms." She said, it was the belief of the Miakoda herd that the Moon was precious and sacred, a glimpse of a God that held power over the world. And after seeing what the Moon could do to the Ocean Sophia had to believe this was all correct. She smiled softly, now speaking words more from her own heart - "It is beautiful tonight. Look how the stars dance and twinkle around it."
Sophia had listened intently to the strangers words, noting the soft musical quality, they sounded so much nicer than if Sophia had spoken the same words. It was only as she contemplated this that she realised something... she hadn't shared her name! She blushed again, feeling very alien to the world. As an youth of the Miakoda herd she had never seen much reason to venture before, plus she had been sickly as a child and protected more so than other children might have. In an effort to correct her mistake she spoke once more, the words spilling out so fast that some of the merged together making it difficult for their ture meaning to be understood. "Please-forgive me... I-didn't mean to-be-so-rude..... My name... is-Sophia."

Soileana was pleased that her plan worked and her new companion seemed to relax. It was much easier to be around Soq that weren't forever dancing around formalities and social subtleties. The flutter became even more pleased as Sophia spoke, revealing both a lyrical and philosophical way of observing things. Feeling as though she were next to a kindred spirit, Sol nodded ever so slightly and replied, reciting a bit of a favorite poem of hers, "Mm... Where dreams grow/ faster than trees/ and time never comes backā¦/ where the moon awaits us,/ patiently,/ for our grand attack..." The poem itself had little to nothing to do about the moon or night time, but she liked it anyways and felt like saying it.
Then the little one seemed to grow flustered again and Sol simply sighed patiently. Ignoring the apology and the stuttering, the flutter replied dreamily, "Sophia..? What a lovely name. My name is Soileana. You may call me Sol if that is easier." With a turn of head, Sol gazed at Sophia with serene, gray eyes. They twinkled with a hidden sort of playfulness and held infinite amounts of warmth and patience. Many Soq found it hard to feel uncomfortable around Sol. The flutter was completely accepting of everyone and everything, the sort of universal-mother type. "Have you ever tried to fly to the moon?"

With more of a show of wills than actually relaxing she forced herself to calm, thought of the way the water spilled up onto the bank, thought of the way the stars twinkled and danced above her, thought of the way the stallion's bodies moved as they practised their defensive moves.... all so fluid and like dance. Sophia could see music and life coursing through them all.
It took a little while but soon she was more focused and calm. "A pleasure Sol." She knew from some of the members of the Miakoda herd that they prefered their 'nicknames' rather than their full name, finding it too formal for normal conversation. Sophia didn't have any nicknames. But then again how could Sophia be shorted? So? Phia? Yeah... she didn't really like either option.
As the question about 'flying to the moon' came she couldn't stop herself from nodding, perhaps it was childish to admit it but Sophia had always been fascinated with the Moon, and since it was so important to her herd she had wanted to be the first to actually touch it... just for a moment. Of course no matter how hard she tried that never world. She sighed and slammed her hoof in frustration on the ground. "Yes.... I didn't manage it though." She offered Soileana a soft smile.

The more of this young lady that Sol observed, the more pleasurable she found the her presence. Sol could see Sophia calm herself, a difficult feat for someone who seemed to rather often exist in a state that was quite the opposite of calm. Even more interesting to her was the girl's play on emotions. She seemed frustrated at her failure, but lighthearted enough about her attempt to give Sol a smile.
Shaking her head slightly, Sol replied smoothly, "It is not in the destination that we learn of living, but in the journey. Perhaps we may never touch the moon, but in trying we learn that though out bodies may be limited, our souls never will be." There was a smile in her eyes, though it did not grace her lips, for Sol very rarely expressed much emotion in any sense. "Have you learned anything thus-far on your journey?"

Sophia considered the mare words, her cheeks blushing as a thought crossed her mind. It had little to do with the task to reach the moon, it was a far more grounded affair. She nodded, "I found love." She thought of Kristan, remembered the first time they had ever met, when he had saved her from a fate surely worst than death.... the Kalona, Demon, had tried to steal her, his purpose unknown. Still, Kristan had grown from that little foal to a stallion of great power and strength, of honor and love.... and she would not do without him, she only wished that they could live together, to be together more than a few days a week.... but they were of two different herds, and Sophia was not ready to leave hers and could never ask Kristan to leave his..... she signed. An answer would come one day she was sure.
Shaking it from her mind she smiled and looked back to the flutter mare, "What have you learnt on your journey?" Her herd's protector Maion had always spoke of how many things could be learnt simply by listening but that true learning came from trying for yourself....

Soileana listened solemnly and nodded as the young mare spoke of love... how often she had heard stories of love. Her adopted son would not be the wonderful stallion he is today without the love he found. Her own parents had been deeply loving Soquili. Though not devoid of love, Sol had never quite felt such stirrings before... then again, she did not feel many stirrings of any sort. Extreme sadness or happiness or anger or even fear... none of these emotions ever graced her heart. Perhaps sometimes she hoped that by listening to how others felt, she may develop the ability to feel as well.
"Ah... love. The epitome of mixed emotions... to feel joy or hurt, passion or contentment. You will learn much from love... much more than any will ever learn from hate." Sol spoke softly as she looked directly into Sohpia's eyes, or what she could see through the girl's hair, wondering what stories those deep orbs held. "As for myself, not to sound presumptuous, but I may fill tomes with the knowledge I have gathered through my expansive lifetime. I am by no means a young mare. I have learned how to learn and how to accept... a quality I have cultivated for years. To be completely accepting is no simple task, and yet it opens so many doors where others only seen locks and blocked paths."
