User ImageKoa knew that they had to move. They had to move or they would be discovered and killed, and Koa didn't know what she would do if she'd caused the death of the only lion she'd ever really felt a strong bond with. She was hesitant to call this love, but whenever she was near Hayven she felt a sense of peace that she couldn't explain. It was something so different from the life in the pride she was leaving behind, but it was something so precious that she could not forsake it.

It was something so precious that she would do anything to protect it.

"Hurry, Hayven," she whispered as they crawled through the underbrush. They were so close to freedom but Har'koa refused to stop until she knew they were utterly and completely free from the war-ravaged pride that he'd unknowingly rescued her from.

It had been a few weeks since he had left his homelands. He just no longer felt the desire to stay in the pride. He wasnt even really sure why! But he was happy he had left. Koa had been a blessing to meet, and he was sure that she was a gift from the heavens. He loved her, and he wasn't afraid to say it! He had said it a few times, though it was in jest and used in silly situations. But that hadnt meant he meant it any less! Though he was sure she had taken it that way.

Right now though? Right now was stressful. He felt his heart pounding like a caged animal in his chest. He felt it was going to burst as he had never felt such a rush of fear before! He knew that if they caught them, they'd be killed.. and if he didnt have any self preservation, he had to make sure at least she survived.

"Im right here." He whispered back, letting her know that she didn't have to worry. He wasnt far behind at all. If anything he kept up rather well for a large lion.

Koa halted in her tracks when she heard a snapping sound, ears pinning back against her skull as she hunched down into a ball. Her eyes were wide, breathing heavy and she tried to quell the agitated sound of her breath wheezing in and out from her chest.

"Hayven," she whispered when the moment of fear passed -- the snapping attributed to a bird giving flight from a nearby tree -- as she turned to peer at him in the dank, dark underbrush, "where are we going to go?" They hadn't really discussed it, and that was strange for Koa. She was a planner -- she liked to have her plans laid out before she took action.

But this time there hadn't been time to discuss plans, and right now Koa was starting to show signs of anxiety.

When she curled into a ball, he put a paw against her to let her feel his warmth..To be her support. He'd fight to the death to protect her, he wasnt fearful for himself. He had always been the white knight type. It was the way his father had raised him.

"Lets just keep heading straight. When we are far from these lands we will figure out what to do then. Right now, out goal is to just get away." He said in his own whisper though it was deeper than her own.

He could feel her heartbeat in her chest against the floor of the earth in his paws and he frowned. Coming up next to her, he put his paw under her chin to raise her head to look at him. His blue eyes gazing into her own he offered her a smile.

"Breathe, Koa. We will get out of this, I promise."

Koa looked deeply into his eyes, finding the reassurance that she so craved there in the depths of his blue eyes. Exhaling softly, Har'koa closed her eyes and nodded. He was right. Nothing good would come of panicking now. Losing her cool would only result in their capture, and that was simply not an option. She would not lose the only happiness she had ever found in her life.

She would not lose Hayven.

"Let's keep moving," she agreed, "and once we are far from this place, we will just run until we cannot run any further. The Ligi are smart," she said, referring to the 'bouncers' from the pride they were leaving from, "and they are cunning. The longer we stay here the more chance they have to find us."

She wanted to tell him she loved him. She was going to tell him. As soon as they were safe, she would tell him. He deserved to know.

"Good girl." He said, nosing her gently before looking behind him. Turning back to look at her he motioned her on.

"Let's go, sooner we get out of here, the sooner I can have you all to myself to watch the stars." He said with a smile, as he continued crouching in the underbrush. He was large, and so his size made it rather difficult to be stealthy. So they had best get out of here quickly.

He had wanted to tell her just now, and then he had lost the courage to do it. He couldnt stress her out, not right now. Maybe later, but not right now.

"C'mon." He said, and took the lead.

Koa was glad to have him take the lead. He was big and that made her feel protected. After living so long in a pride where you were not promised your tomorrows, feeling safe was utterly important to Koa. Hayven gave her that, and she would never let him go. He kept her grounded, soothed her nerves, motivated her into action.

Without him, she would have never left the Ashnai'le. Without him, she would have never realized that there was more out there than living her life in fear.

"I'm right behind you, Hayven," Koa whispered quietly, moving with a nimbleness that suited her small, compact form.

He continued moving forward, his paws carrying him quickly and easily. However he was beginning to feel the tired heaviness in his legs from walking so low. So he paused after a while of walking, and lifted his head out of the underbrush. Taking a few looks around and a few quick scents he looked at Koa.

Crouching back down, he looked her in her blue eyes and licked her cheek. He had to know one thing before they did what he was thinking.

"Do you trust me, Koa?"

He asked, a serious look over his face. He didnt mean to make it such a commanding tone but it was serious. If she didn't then he wasnt going to push his idea on her.

"To the ends of the Earth," Koa said swifty, not missing a beat. Of course she trusted him. After all, she'd risked death to find happiness with him. She knew he wouldn't ask such a serious question without a purpose behind it, Koa pushed for more information.

"Why, Hayven? Do you have an idea?" She hoped he did, because she didn't. She hoped he had a way to get them away from the pride she'd risked life and limb to escape from. She didn't think they had much more time to waste here in these tortured lands, and she didn't want to lose what ground they'd gained.

He smiled when she said she did, and he leaned in to kiss her forehead before nodding. He had never felt such a love towards anyone before. He rather liked this feeling...and he was never going to let her go.

"When I say go, stand up, and take off. Im going to stay behind a ways to make sure if anyone follows, I can distract them. But I want you free from harm. So make sure to run, when I say run."

He was willing to stay behind and give his life for her, he just hoped it didn't come down to that. He wanted to make sure though that whatever happened, she was safe.
