Alanna peered curiously over the edge of the rocky, moss covered cliff she had encountered. Nothing of note stood out to her eyes but still she was curious at what she would find at the bottom of the ravine. A small stream trickled at the bottom, and pools of water created by rocks sparkled in the sun. She carefully navigated down the side, which was steep but not impossible to scale. Trees clung tenaciously to the sides and choking vines wrapped around some, slowly creeping up to the top branches.
She stumbled only once, but caught herself immediately on one of the thick vines that spanned between two young trees. Once at the bottom she found that there were easier ways of getting down further down the stream and was glad no one had been around to see her stumbling down the hard way.
The harsh sides of the ravine gentled into a slope that seemed to widen the hole in the earth until she was ambling comfortably between two rocky hills that she knew she could quite easily climb. For the moment, she was content to follow the fledgling river to see where it went.

Aella was digging her hoof into the dry sand by a piece of green vegetation. Somewhere, deep down likely there was some water there. It had been what she had learned in her time with her people. Her people...she missed them in places like this more than in any other.

Aelita was draped across a low boulder along the bottom of the ravine, enjoying the warmth of the sunlight playing across her back and sides and gazing intently into her reflection on the surface of a small pool. She smiled sleepily at the small silvery minnows that darted around the bottom, no doubt deposited there when the river dried out. She wondered what had caused the river to disappear, this had once been a fertile valley but most of the plants had died with the river, and all the animals had left. Now it was only her, and these little fish she amended with a small nod before returning to her silent contemplation of herself.

Alanna continued to mosey along the swiftly dwindling stream while taking in the scenery. It was not particularly a dry place and she wondered why the stream was so small. There were trees and wild grasses and even a shrubbery or two. Small rocks and things were stuck in the ground, and she could see where the river had once flown. In fact, she was walking next to a dried up river, she realized.
As the stream turned into a muddy little creek, she sighed. It was almost sad to see it go, she'd been following for a good five minutes. Her attention wavered however when she saw someone in the distance. With a smile she increased her pace, eager to meet a new person. She squinted at the red-haired soquili as she drew nearer.
"Hello there!" she shouted when she was within hearing distance.
-------
Knucklebone was not a happy soquili. He was away from his desert on a search for something worth bringing back to the mare he was courting to ask her to be his mate. This was not the reason he was unhappy, no. He was most definitely lost at this moment in time and non-too-pleased about it.
The time for that treasure hunt he'd heard about was drawing near and he'd be damned if he missed the chance to find something shiny for his lady love. Last person he'd talked to had said to follow the river until it reached a bend, he'd know it because there would be a huge mountain range looming in the distance if he kept going straight instead of following the curve.
It was probably perfectly good directions, however, the river was getting smaller and smaller and he was worried it would soon disappear altogether!
As it diminished into little more than a creek and some sad little pools of water, he nearly tripped over someone who was laying on a rock and apparently staring into one of the pools. He caught himself but stepped into a patch of thick mud with a disgusted cry.
