** This was written a long time ago, but for plot purposes is being posted now. It takes place during a week of Ren's second year. **

** I have permission from Maru to get Ren drunk. **

Natalia
Natalia was over all of the bullshit that had been going down lately. From Renaissance being a total baby about their argument (which...was bad, she had to admit but still! Not talking for this long? Lame.) to being the only a*****e in all of Halloween Town to hurt Whisper's feelings. There were no words to describe how tired the monster was. There were no more tears left in her to shed, no more nights spent cuddling a pillow--Natalia was tired of feeling sorry for herself, mostly because it hurt far too much to sit in her own self-pity. So she moved about now, a lot actually. In a way she acted to escape all of the worries, just in case some of it decided to surface once again. Distractions of all kinds were welcomed with open arms, and having attended the open house event seemed to prove this fact.

Bare feet took her across the spacious, red, white, and black room, to one of the slender windows. She spent almost her entire day sitting around the bedroom, which contradicted her new take on life--but it was so relaxing to do so. Her homework was now finished, she had studied for hours and looking out to the open air just beyond the monster dorms; Natalia watched as this day turned into what she hoped would be another wild evening. Like the one she had spent with Sarias. This would be another night she did not intend on spending alone.

Perhaps Whisper would enjoy her company? Although the werelemur wasn't entirely sure how the demon felt about her right about now…plus how could she face Whisper after pursuing the blue-haired banshee and--Would it only hurt the hellhound more to be around Natalia? But staying away would probably do much more damage, wouldn’t it?...

"Gah!" Natalia spat suddenly, baring her teeth as she turned away from the glass and back toward the bed. Tiny shorts, a tight tank-top and knee-high stockings were the only garments on the ghoul, the clothes she had woken up with and would probably fall asleep in if she didn't make up her mind soon. Throwing her long frame onto the bed, the lemur sighed loudly before slipping the socks off of her feet and pulling the top over her head...

Changing into something suitable for an outing would probably get her going.

Yes.

Rolling toward her dresser, Natalia sifted through her wardrobe idly.

Ren
He supposed he shouldn't have drank that much, but the pumpkin juice had soothed and numbed his frayed nerves; not to mention it tasted great. The bartender at the local restaurant had not seemed to notice that the ghoul he was serving was sharing her drinks with someone underage. All it had taken were a few sidelong glances, a small bit of flirting, and Ren had managed to score several bottles. Hours later, when the ghoul had flitted off (after writing her number flirtatiously on his palm), he had sat there, just idly tapping his fingers against an empty bottle of pumpkin juice. It was only after the place close that the owners finally kicked him out so that they could clean up and shut the place down for the night, and by that time it was nearing midnight.

Walking - or rather, stumbling - along the path back to Amityville, Ren was humming a very high pitched and off-key tune. He wasn't sure where he had heard it before, but it was a beautiful song...such a beautiful song, right...? Man the moon sure was bright this evening. Ren held a hand up to his head, shielding his eyes. Streaks of pale white light fell across the campus grounds, illuminating the lush green grass and casting eerie, elongated shadows to stretch out across the quad.

Where was he going, anyway? Not back to his room; he didn't really feel like sleeping right now. Not to LW's room; his best friend would just coddle him. Alessa and Gabrian would tell him he was stupid for drinking, but the alcohol had numbed him; the pain was gone, at least for now, and Ren didn't want to see their exasperated expressions. Definitely not Jove's room; he did not want his little brother to see him like this. Or rather, he didn't want Jove to drink. Drinking was fun. He liked drinking. Just not for Jove.

There was only one person he could think of, and so, staggering haphazardly towards the monster dorms, Ren pushed open the door and made his way sloppily up the stairs. He was still dressed in the clothes he had worn earlier; a teeshirt and a pair of sweats that belonged to Gabrian and so fell a bit lower on him than they should have. Padding down the hallway, Ren stopped in front of a certain door, and without bothering to knock, pushed it open.

"Sup, Natalia?"

Natalia
She was barely lifting a shirt out of the drawer when the door opened. It startled the ghoul definitely, but she didn’t seem to jump as most would; something about the way it was opened, and even before then when she heard the heavy steps coming down the hall and stopping short of her room, did not shake the monster as much as one would think. But her brows lifted still, her body freezing rigidly as the smooth voice of a drunken boil came to her in torturous waves. Her orange eyes narrowed angrily as he stood there with that stupid look on his stupid face…

Natalia growled.

She also didn’t know what to do. She was shirtless, contorted half on her bed and half on the floor while the stench of local bars filled the room and made her nose wrinkle. It was weird seeing him in this state, even if at the same time it seemed so natural. Suddenly a sinister grin found its place on her lips, and scrambling to sit upright on the bed Natalia snorted in her short burst of laughter.

So the kitty comes running home then?

Ren
Natalia was not wearing a shirt. Ren blinked at her, tilting his head as if scruitinizing her. It was not unusual to see her in...well, less than that, but it seemed he had caught her in the midst of getting dressed. With an overexaggerated sigh, he turned around, tail flickering behind him.

"Running home?" he repeated, swaying slightly on unsteady legs. He linked his fingers together behind his back, still humming that odd tune from earlier as he rocked back and forth on his heels. "Last I checked this wasn't home, little miss lemur. At least not my home. This is your home. Not mine. Yours."

His head was spinning .Why did the room feel so...big? It was like the walls were expanding to make more room, and Ren's eyes followed along the seams of the walls, traced the outlines of each item - the dresser, the doorframe, the mirror, the bookshelf...

Oops, bad idea. His head hurt from trying to concentrate. Ren spun back around to face Natalia - oops, not a good idea either; why is the room spinning now?, his ears flickering.

"Say, Natalia, why aren't we talking again?" he asked her, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. "I forget; why are we mad at each other again?"

He started pacing back and forth, restlessly moving around the room. His hands were shaking a bit, as if he wanted to do something with them, but wasn't sure exactly what. After a moment, he stopped in front of Natalia's dresser, picking up a hairbrush and swinging it absently in his fingers for a moment before dropping it. Then he picked up a hair tie, stretching it with childlike fascination between his fingers.

"You're so gorgeous, y'know that, right?" he said, flashing her a bright grin. Then he added "But, y'know, y'should probably put a shirt on. People might get the wrong idea."

Natalia
Digging her nails into the bed, Natalia cringed as the boil spoke. Wanting him here was burning a hole in her resolve. Natalia needed to wrap her arms around the gryphon’s neck and hang in a hug so long overdue that it sent shivers down her bare spine, but he wouldn't remember it. The ghoul knew that in his current state, so far beyond drunk it was starting to get comical, that if anything were to happen, it would be gone before he woke tomorrow morning.

....

No. She tried to push a thought out of her head by rubbing one hand through her blue hair.

But her heart began to race then, listening to him with a silent scowl. Anger still rode the currents of her emotional tide, teeth gritting behind the frown, but Natalia was Natalia in wanting the boil all to herself. She was selfish and cold in considering taking advantage of his weakened state--She felt a hint of revenge brush against her thoughts for a second time and it seemed that much more appealing as Renaissance spun around and messed with items in between his hands.

"We are not speaking because you do not know how to make someone feel important." Pausing, Natalia flicked her attention to the dresser before folding her arms below her bra-covered chest. "I do not care what people think, gryphon. Shut the door if you are so worried."

Thump, thump, thump went her heartbeat.

Ren
Ren's mind was foggy; he shook his head, as if to clear it, reaching up his hands to rub tiredly at his temples. The alcohol was beginning to seep through his veins, making him feel both electrified and exhausted simultaneously. Somehow it felt as if two sides were warring; the normal Ren side, and the Ren who didn't want to care about anything, didn't want to DO anything.

Except forget. He didn't want to remember anything, and he didn't want to think about anything. But he was not as drunk as he seemed to be; though his head was spinning and he was dizzy and feeling rather out of himself, he still knew very well whose room he was in. Natalia had been a good friend, once upon a time. He could remember how they had been with each other, remember what they had meant to one another and why. She had been a good friend to him, despite all of her - and his - faults. Despite every contradiction, they worked well together; like him and Gabrian. Total opposites, but strangely special to one another. It was odd but Ren had really cared for the ghoul.

Until that afternoon. He could still hear her voice, angry and accusing, the way her skin had felt against the palm of his hand when he had slapped her - out of frustration more than anything, but also hurt. Hurt that she hadn't been able to see what he had.

Ren's eyes lifted and he regarded Natalia carefully.

"Fine, then."

There was a crash as he kicked the door shut, and then he turned, walking slowly over to the werelemur. "I wasn't kidding about the gorgeous part, y'know," he said, and then reached a hand out, gripping the back of her neck and hauling her towards him to press his lips to hers in an angry kiss.
