The truth was, Roch really needed to talk to someone. The truth also was, Roch didn't WANT to talk to someone. It was none of their business how confused he was--and if he told them the whole thing, they'd probably try to murder him anyway. Including Danny. And because he DESERVED to be murdered, he would probably LET her, and then he'd be dead, and the entire world would be happy...
Except him.
So Roch did what he always did when he felt confused. He headed for a source of comfort.
Yes, Roch headed through the door of the cafeteria, a slight frown on his face as he looked around, then headed for the counter to order the taco special and sit down in a corner, eating slowly (for him,) and contemplating what in the hell he should do next.

The last time Taryn had seen Roch, he had been a bountiful fountain of energy and exuberance. Now? He looked like someone had punched his favorite foxfire. She was enjoying (kind of) one of Ginger's meals on her own and the reaper had appeared out of seemingly nowhere to plop down at her table. Did he even know she was there?
After pondering the situation a moment, she slid closer and spoke in hushed tones. She had never felt so guilty for not having baked goods ready.
"Are you... are you okay?"

Roch jerked, almost choking on his taco. He gulped it down quickly and looked at Taryn for a moment before getting up and taking the seat next to her. "Hey, Taryn," he said, turning so he was facing her, his arm resting on the table. "How's it goin?"
She'd asked him something, right? This shy little thing had asked him something and he'd totally failed to notice it. Damn, he really WAS out of it, wasn't he?

It seemed that, after the first meeting had gone relatively well Taryn was less nervous to speak to Roch. She took a little bite of her own taco as he came closer and tilted her head at him. Something was definitely up.
"Alright... how about you?" If the poor boil had been too immersed in his apparently negative thoughts to hear her, she'd might as well not embarrass him and just play right along.

He frowned slightly, a thoughtful, slightly childish expression on his face as he thought about it. "I am... hell, I don't know what I am right now," he admitted. "Have you ever started teasing someone--"
Wait, probably not the right question. He couldn't really see her teasing ANYONE. "Okay, lemme rephrase this. What do you do when a joke--or what you think is a joke, gets a little... serious?" he asked her.

...what? Taryn's brow furrowed and his lips parted as she tried to figure out what in the hell Roch was on about. When a joke became serious? What, had he offended someone and was about to get his rear-end handed to him? That was a good enough reason to be upset, she thought, but that didn't seem to be it. This boil was an odd one, at that.
"I don't know what you're talking about..." she said, carefully. The ghoul was more than willing to help, but things would have to be explained much more simply.

"Yeah, that makes two of us," he agreed seriously. "You don't got a boilfriend or a ghoulfriend, do you?" he asked her. "Maybe a crush? Cuz I am totally out of my depths right now, and it's my own jackin' fault."
He frowned slightly, thinking for a long moment as he waited for her to reply. She was cute. She probably did have someone, right? But did being cute mean anything? Xiu was cute and she didn't have a boilfriend--Danny was... cute, possibly? But that one was obvious why SHE didn't have anyone. They probably wouldn't survive the first week of dating her, he thought evilly. (Of course he wouldn't EVER say that aloud. Probably.)

Oh! Oh my!
"No, I don't..." Taryn said, flushing as she looked down at her hands. Silly boil, thinking she could possibly have a boilfriend. Nobody had ever shown interest in her, let alone asked her out. It seemed as if Roch may be having his own problems now. "Crushes are... crushes I've had," she nodded, "What do you mean, it's your own fault...?"
Taryn turned back to Roch then, her brow furrowed once more. As far as she'd known, nobody had any control over who they did or didn't have a crush on. Why would the poor boil blame himself, and where did a joke turning serious fit into this?

"Hmmmm," he said, leaning back on the legs of his chair. "Just crushes? You're really cute, I'm surprised," he said honestly. "But here's the problem, I've never had a crush before. I mean, hell, I learned how to play love songs when I was a kid, but never got the meaning of them. My biggest obsession is my guitar, makes sense right? My scythe IS a guitar. So in a way I'm obsessed with my future job."
Yes, Roch actually knew it, himself. "So here I am, making friends with ghouls for the first time in my life--and I start teasin' one of them about being on this... doing this... well, this thing that's pretty silly, but she seems serious about it, you know, trying to help friends start dating."

Taryn smiled softly and fiddled with her hands, looking down again. Silly, silly boil. Of course just crushes! With her studies, when would she have time to have a boilfriend, or to even think about dating? ...Roch seemed to maybe have the same issue with his music, but he might be getting over that. mightn't he?
"Well... do you like her?" she asked, turning back up to Roch, "I mean like-like. If so, do you know how she feels?" If not, she could understand why this whole situation was super-intimidating. A first crush was a very exciting thing! ...until it came crashing down around you in a hail of fire and shrapnel. That kind of sucked.
"Who is it?" A vital question for any ghoul!

He lost his balance at the question, the two back legs of the chair giving out and him falling over, crashing into the chair behind him. He looked so guilty that it was almost funny. No, that big eyed look of guilt really was funny, especially with the big tough reaper boil having fallen over like an idiot.
"Ah, well, ah--" he stuttered, getting to his feet and taking a little too much care in fixing the chairs back into place. "See--" The back of his neck was turning a bit red. "I don't... know?" he finished as he sat back down. "I mean--I was just teasing her! You know, giving her a hard time about not knowing anything about love, so--"
He facepalmed, feeling like an idiot.

A big smile crept across Taryn's face. Oh, there were things a girl knew even if she had no experience. This boil, this awkward flailing boil who had once intimidated her, had a heart full of fluttering locusts. How cute!
"You do!" she said, and then amended a little quieter: "From the way you're acting now, you definitely do." Thinking on it a moment, she decided that she could be wrong, and that just wouldn't do. "When you think about her, does your heart go all funny? Does your belly flip-flop? Do you get nervous and worked-up when she comes around or she comes up? Do you want to... hold her hand?!" The flustering bit was clear, but the last bit was posed like a wild accusation, and Taryn couldn't help but giggle. Sure, she didn't know this boil too well, but she was charmed by his awkwardness! She felt almost... a kinship.

"No! Absolutely not!" he protested quickly. WAY too quickly. "I was just giving her a hard time!" Sure he'd felt SERIOUSLY self conscious when she refused to look at him in his swim trunks, but he'd turned that into a way to tease her, and just as easily forgotten it... right?
Well yeah, Guitar FEARO was a definite distraction.
"So I was going to tell her I was just teasing her, but..." He was red by this point. "I couldn't seem to... y'know, admit it. Now it's probably driving her crazy with confusion, and she's probably running around asking everyone she knows except me HOW to turn me down without hurting my feelings."

Taryn smirked, leaning her chin on a hand. Sure, sure, a likely story. What was it with boils and their pride? She listened to Roch, listened to the hole he was digging and waited for him to slip up, aside from his pinkening complexion.
...and then he did.
"Turn you down? So you're going to ask her out. And you're nervous." How cute! "Crushes are fun! There's no need to get defensive. Ask her out. The very, very worst she could do is say 'no'." Or, of course, laugh in your face, call her friends around to mock you, and then make fun of you at every opportunity until you switched schools. Taryn decided to skip that part.

"A date?" he yelped, his voice--the voice that had changed pretty young, cracked. It actually CRACKED. "Oh jack," he muttered, daring to glance around and make sure no one was staring. "That's not what I meant! I told her I--well--just--"
He groaned, slumping against the table. "Nah, I should just call her up and tell her I was teasing her, and the whole thing will be solved, y'know, after a week or two of bein' awkward."
