After applying for FMC during that summer break Bul found himself a little more than frustrated with an added bit of work to do. This was his time to be a lazy oaf and perhaps the only thing more significantly life altering than him learning how to swim was getting a haircut. His injuries from his exam had long since began to heal but it was as if the half beast faced a never ending charade of accidents. Occasionally he'd drop some weights in the Fitness Room or slice his ridiculously long tail against some of the school's less polished ironwork. Either way he hadn't gotten the summer he'd been looking for. Bruteball season still hadn't begun, and none of the summer classes being offered really tickled his fancy.
So far he had proposed homework for Sex Ed, which he officially decided he'd avoid like the plague, and owed a couple odds and ends here and there. Florecstival was even something of a chore to him with student elections around the corner he'd been bombarded with things to think about. The thing that topped it all off though? Bul's heat lamp had burnt out and finding a new bulb for it would cost him a fortune. Having JUST bought his new bass, he was looking at a long semester before he'd get any more seeds from his parents.
Grouchy and annoyed, he decided he'd find a much more suiting place than his dark, dank room to practice his bass. Gently tapping the strings he searched the room for an amp to plug into and stood leaning against his tail a bit before tuning the device. <********.. shoulda brought my own amp, damnit.." he grumbled as he had trouble getting the club's to work right for him. Really he was just being hot headed, for the amp had nothing too wrong with it but he needed to get his princess time out of his system before school started.

Danny had actually seen Bul duck into the Fright Music Club- considering she had been stalking him for a couple hallways it wasn't really surprising. She had been ducking behind corridor walls and trashcans like she was some sort of secret agent with the sole purpose of stalking Bul. Actually, it was a wonder that Bul hadn't seen her with all the ruckus she was making. Maybe something was on his mind.
She did have a legitimate purpose for coming to the Fright Music Club room though. She was going to store some more of her sheet music in the room for safekeeping. For the past few weeks, Roch had been teaching her how to read it, because up until then she had been a "learn by ear" kind of ghoul. It was incredibly difficult, but she knew she had to do it.
Danny poked her head into the room. He was ... struggling with an amp? He seemed rather grumpy at the moment- his face was twisted into a sort of angry look that Roch wore quite a bit. Did all boils have a face like that? He was even cursing at the amp. Should she bother comforting him?
Of course she would.
The fire demonness waltzed into the room like she hadn't just seen the previous scene. "Hi Bul!" she squeaked. She put her papers down on the desk and said, "Need some help there?"

At first Bul didn't hear the ghoul enter the room but upon her next remark turned and paused his play to give her a less than impressed smarm. "Uhm. No just kinda bothered by the feedback," he snorted and moved his gaze to the thing giving it a gentle kick. He knew better than to disrespect the club's equipment.
His tail was not only holding him up but snaking its way around the room, the end of it idly swishing back and forth like an unamused cat.
"Why did you get these amps anyway, I ALWAYS put my trust in Bansheeiks. They just produce much better sound." Bul assumed Danny had gotten them, or at least had power over the equipment selection. "I've been meaning to get to playing more with Calder just haven't spotted the right place just yet.." he sighed guiltily.

Honestly, Danny couldnt've cared less if Bul misused the equipment. Had he thrown it across the room, she would've just thought it was his own special music playing ritual. Still, she smiled and said, "Does the amp work differently for a bass than it does a guitar?" Danny had never played anything but a bit of forced piano (none of which she remembered) and the guitar. Other instruments were beyond her expertise.
Danny's eyes followed his tail, but she was trying to focus on her face in the meantime. The tail seemed ... alive somehow. Her mind started drifting to the world of her imagination. She imagined what it would be like to ride the tail around the school like a sled of some sort. Only a lot slower. Bul probably wouldn't like it.
Wait what? He was asking a question? "Oh uhm. Bone benders were all the school said they would lend us." She didn't really care which kind of amp they got- because she wouldn't know how to work any of them anyways. She had started learning, once again thanks to Roch, but had they switched types she would probably be lost as ever.
Danny's ears did figuratively perk up when she heard the name of her pony friend. "You know pony? Did he play his airbag for you!" She was excited now. If Bul was a friend of Calder, then Bul was a friend of hers.

"Well I heard it at the meeting, I don't expect he plays too terribly." Bul replied with a shrug. "We'll have a hell of a time mixing styles that's for sure though." Every now and then he'd interrupt his own speech to play a tune or two and twist the keys at the end of the axe. The thing resembled some sort of minotaur skull engraved in stone.
"s**t s**t... s**t," Bul looked like he was ready to rage-quit his very own instrument and stormed over to where the snack table usually was, grabbing a bag of chips left from the last meeting, the least popular flavor polluting the selection. Trying to hide a pout, Bul stuffed his mouth with a couple of them and crunched while he curled his tail behind him. Now that he was standing he felt somewhat inadequate looking down at the ghoul.
"Next time you get a chance get a Bansheeik. Just... do it, trust me," he leered at the device on the ground. "I'd bring mine but you know how annoying it is to carry those things. " Bul neglected to bring up the funding he'd originally questioned when they were given their 'assignment' of sorts, since he hadn't done it just yet he'd prefer not to hound Danny over it. You get what you put into it, and he'd not put out just yet.
"So how much luck have you had playing around the school, any?" he raised a brow, still sulking a bit.

Danny gave Bul a sympathetic look and then brushed his hand away from the amp. She began tuning it herself, going through the steps that Roch had showed her. First turn this nob ... press that ...
"Try now?" she said, looking up at him. From down here, she realized something. Bul was tall. Like really tall. Considering Danny was on the tall side herself, it was actually refreshing to look up at someone, rather than down. Especially since ghouls at this school seemed rather stunted in height.
She nodded and said, "Mmkay! Bansheeik it is!" She would probably go back to her dorm and ask her deadie for one that very night. That is, if she could remember to. It might not happen at all. It probably wouldn't. She looked at him quizzically and added, "You could always store it in the club room? Or uhm ... I could carry it down for you I guess."
Danny decided she was tired of squatting, so she sat, right there on the ground next to the amp, her tail swishing back and forth amiably. Her wings sort of twitched, as if she was about to take flight, but then, she never would. Her wings were useless.
Danny hung her head a bit at the next question. "Ah ... we actually haven't played yet. Still looking for bits and pieces for our ... ven ... stage thingy. Plus we have to learn the songs!" She tugged on her hair then said, "How about you?"

"Sounds like you're going all out for it," Bul said and rolled his eyes. "I didn't know you were still learning to play though, have you taken any classes with Professor Blue yet?" he asked and nicked a warm water bottle from a pack under the table.
"Me and Calder gotta figure out how to get this all sorted out. He sent me some Bootube videos on some rock with bagpipes that's pretty cool, but to pull it off is something totally different." His large clawed feet thumped the floor as he stepped back over to his bass and gently lifted it off the ground after she'd messed with the amp.
Starting out loud and strong he tried to play through a measure but grunted in frustration and shook his head. "No, no no... still wrong. See what I mean? Terrible amps.." he continued to play softer but seemed ever annoyed by the quality he was getting. "I'm sorry but.. Jacking hell." Turning now to Danny he nodded his head as if he were summoning her. "Where's yours, maybe you should try it with this?"

Danny looked at Bul with seriously stubborn eyes. "I do too know how to play! I ... I just can't ... read it." Her sentence started out with female indignation, but finished off with a flop. It was no secret anymore now. She really couldn't read sheet music. She had always learned to just play by ear. "Professor Blue? Who's that?" Wasn't there a Professor Red? Danny liked this color system. All of the teachers should just change their names to colors- it would be so much easier for her to remember everything!
She listened eagerly as he explained his idea for Calder. "That sounds like fun! Calder was really great when he played his airbag!!" She really did like the idea of Bul and Calder playing together. They would make a genuinely interesting sound. "Can I come watch when you play?" she asked with eager, expectant eyes.
Danny gave Bul a sympathetic look. He didn't seem very happily at the moment. "Uhm, mine is in my room, but that's back at the demon ... are you okay Bul?" Danny didn't like seeing her friends upset, and Bul was cussing even more than Roch did on a daily basis. That was saying something.

Taking a deep breath, Bul avoided raging any further as Danny tried to calm him down. "Nevermind its.. I'm just gonna go ahead and stop for now. My finger's are stinging anyway.."
Danny's claim to not know how to read was just pleasing enough to get a moment's smirk out of the half beast. Bul needed to lighten up anyway not to mention he too learned fist to play by ear. "Blue is the music professor. A lot of students don't like him cause he assigned them shitty instruments but I lucked out and got the drums. I think I mentioned I was learning to play them during tryouts or something like that.."
The idea of Danny listening to he and Calder playing left him indifferent. She was more than welcome to watch but as one of the club leaders he didn't want to have to impress anyone. Especially if by chance it didn't happen! "Uh.. sure? You can watch but it won't be like... I dunno."
With a pout only a boil could make the half beast carefully separated the amp and the bass. "I gotta tell you the truth I feel unimpressive when it comes to what we've got in the club. I'm only a bassist by hobby I really don't appreciate music as much as some monsters. Maybe that's my problem with practicing on these amps. It doesn't sound how I like."

Danny just tilted her head at Bul's accusation that he was inferior to the group. She would've just burst out laughing if he didn't look so mopey and depressing. Even Danny knew when not to push someone. Okay, well she didn't know it perfectly, but this was one of those special moments where she actually figured it out.
"Who said you had to be good to join?" Danny tapped her chin for a moment, obviously in deep thought (deep as in "shallow as a kiddy pool"). This must've been Roch's fault, right? Only he would tell someone that they were bad and couldn't play, even jokingly. It just had to be his fault. There was no other option, definitely.
Danny sighed and brushed her pesky bangs out of her face. "Did Roch tell you that? I bet he did. I'll beat the crap out of him later," she said, surprisingly with a smile for such a violent composition.

"Roch? No.. what are you-" The boil raised a brow in confusion.
"Nobody did of course, but some Halloweeners might find it a little insulting if sir jockstrap pretends he's got an artistic side," Bul spoke with less self loathing than before. "And to tell you the truth I lose interest in it now and then unless Blue really rattles my senses."
With that the monster turned and began to unplug and pack away his stuff. "I got a taste of your s**t before but.." he began and crossed his arms with his bass strapped to his back. "I gotta hear you play some stuff. Where's your guitar again?" He was willing enough to follow her if she needed to retrieve it but he seemed quite adamant about hearing her play.

Now Bul had really lost Danny. "Wait, who is Sir Jockstrap? He can join the club too! Everyone is welcome!"
Poor Sir Jockstrap. He must've been so afraid to join the club that he asked Bul to speak on his behalf! Well Danny would hunt this "Sir" kid down and steer him in the right direction, yes she would! It was her goal in unlife to make sure everyone at school would join the Fright Music Club, whether they wanted to or not.
Nevermind high school ambitions though, Danny was more concerned with the trouble at hand. "Mmmm, my guitar is back at my dorm, with my amp ... maybe there's something laying around here?"
Danny searched the room, but didn't see anything. There was the club drumset and the upright piano, but other than that it was a tad empty today. Not many students had been bustling through with their wonderful music apparently. Well no matter, this was a clubroom for a reason, right?
It was a good thing there was a small closet for storing their various "valuable" equipment. Reaching in, Danny pulled out a rather simple black guitar and threw the strap over her head. Bouncing back over to Bul, she said, "Uhhh what did you wanna hear!" A normal, chipper smile plastered her face as she asked, a little tingle of nervousness bubbling in her stomach caused by playing in front of someone.

Giving Danny the benefit of the doubt Bul just nodded along. Sure, if that meant he was welcome in a round about sort of way she was excusing his moping. That's all that really mattered.
At first the half beast was expecting danny to turn aside and lead him to her dorm but much to his amazement she summoned a guitar from the closet and blinked. "Damn what the hell how did..." Clearly he'd paid little attention when they'd met for the first FMC meeting. Gotta remember that closet next time.
"Well there's always the classic This is Halloween but that's too rudimentary. Surprise me." he said, now leaning back and letting his massive tail balance him like a seat.

What did rudimentary mean? It was rude? Did he think the classic This is Halloween was rude? But then way, how could a song be rude? That didn't make any sense, songs didn't have feelings or attitudes. Unless they did, and then Danny was very sorry that she hadn't noticed before.
Wait, she was confusing herself again, wasn't she. "Um. Okay! I hope this song isn't too rude."
Danny began by plugging the guitar into the "non-working" amp, and adjusting the guitar correctly. Roch had been teaching her that there was an actual method to adjusting the knob thingies, but she had just been winging it for the most part. She just moved them until they sounded right.
After that, she sat back on the chair she had been occupying and began playing a song she had been working on. Honestly, it started out a bit flashier than the song's actual difficulty, but hey, she was showing off right?
The more she played, the farther she slipped into zoning off. It was all muscle memory, and Danny was having fun just listening to her own song play. Her tongue stuck out, but it was a common habit when she was really focusing on something. The same thing happened when she played maceball. It was nice to play in front of someone for once!

At what point did he-
No, he wasn't going to question her at this point. Bul was beginning to learn that Danny was charming in her own way and that someone in the school actually may have a little more head trauma inflicted on them over the years than he had! 8D
When she attacked the strings his eyes went sorta wide for a moment. Did he just get SCHOOLED by this snot? Maybe. That or she just practiced that one song over and over and nothing else. He'd convince himself of the latter if it made him feel better.
Silently he listened until she was finished and a slow clap became a straight out frenzy for the demoness. "D.. Damn ghoul what the ******** was that? Am I just tone deaf for my own bass? Like.. what?" Bul shook his head at himself in disbelief. "Well I'm a fool now aren't I. Maybe I should uh.. get some more practice on these amps in huh?"
