Aodhfin was moving sluggishly as he went in search of shade to relax in to get out of the sun since he was off duty for the time being. he gave a loud sigh before he finally flopped down upon the ground in the first area of shade he found. lashing his tail about in aggravation, the drought situation did not make his cold gruff personality better. huffing, he glared out at the desert as if that would make it decide to give up the water that was needed. after a while, he just gave a wrinkle of his muzzle before being fully laid out on his side. figuring he was better off napping in the shade instead of glaring off into the desert and wasting energy doing so. giving another sigh, he closed his eyes and hoped for the moment he would be able to relax instead of worrying about the drought situation.

Eksy had had a trying day. With the water sources drying up, the preybeasts had mostly moved to the fringes of the desert or out of it entirely; in order to properly hunt for the insatiable pride, she'd had to roam further and further out these days, and it was taking a toll on her well-being. In addition to that, she'd had several disturbing visions lately that had woken her in the dark of the night, heart-pounding and fur ruffled, and she'd had a difficult time getting any proper sleep. All in all, it didn't make for a happy or healthy huntress.

The dark-pelted lioness had found a few hartebeests earlier this morning, but she'd not managed to catch anything, and had ended the hunt panting, winded, and completely without meat. As the heat of the day approached, she sourly sought out shelter, resigning herself to trying again later this evening, when things cooled down once more.

As she approached the little outcropping of rock that was her typical area of rest around these parts, she was surprised to find that most of it was already occupied by a large male. After taking a careful whiff of him, she decided that this was a pride member - simply one she hadn't met yet. Cautiously, she approached him, peering down at his sprawled-out form.

"Hey. Mind moving over a bit?"

Aodhfin barely opened an eye to see who it was interrupting his enjoyment of the shade and noticed the female peering down at him. he gave a rather loud sigh before he moved himself upright to get a better look at the female that was asking him to move over. " and who might you be?" flicking his tail a bit in the sand, he could tell she was just wanting to beat the heat just like he was. " i just like knowing who i'm about to lay in the shade with." staying in his laid out position, he figured he might as well learn her name before giving some space for her to lay in the shade too. after all he had been so comfortable, and he really didn't want to move but he knew the drought probably was not being too kind to ether of them so he would.

The dark-pelted lioness looked disappointed when he didn't immediately move over - didn't really react beyond a lazy glance. She was hot, and her patience was thin from failure and worry over the pride's current status. The fact that she couldn't immediately curl up in one of her normal spots because she was being interrogated didn't particularly help matters. Still, she kept a rein on her temper, well knowing that her kin were famous for losing it - and that didn't help anyone, in her point of view.

"Eksyatuli," she said carefully. "I'm a huntress with the pride." Her tail-tuft twitched for a moment as he regarded her. "Who are you, and what's your rank, if I might ask?" There was firm politeness in her tone, and it was clear that although she was being quite cordial, she was no pushover, and if she was pressed, she'd certainly get defensive if need be.

Aodhfin got to his feet and moved over so that she could have space in the shade. " my name is Aodhfin, i'm a soldier in the pride." he made a motion with his paw to show he was letting her lay down in the shade first before laying out again. " go ahead and lay down. "

even though he had been a bit rude and gruff, he was not above changing his tune to show he did have manners taught to him. " i take it your trying to beat the heat of the day too." clear his throat with a cough, he was almost embarrassed in being so gruff towards her but he was pretty set in his ways.

The dark-pelted lioness bobbed her head in thanks, and she stretched out comfortably, exhaling in sheer relief from the blazing sun. Firekin she might be, but that didn't mean she had to enjoy the heat: particularly with her gray fur, which seemed to absorb all the warmth. In the shade, it was a good ten or so degrees cooler, and her breathing slowly returned to normal as she lay there. After a moment, she regarded the lion, then nodded, seemingly not too offended by his gruff manner - then again, if she was a huntress, it was likely she had to deal with all sorts within the pride. A tiny smile curled on the edges of her lips. "Thank you, Aodhfin. And ... yes," she added, very wryly. "Chasing after antelope in this heat is stupidity. I decided to take a break for awhile, at least until it gets dark. Are you on duty out here, or did you have the afternoon off?"

Aodhfin laid out right next to her while trying not to be too close since he didn't want to invade her personal space because they just met. giving a rather big yawn, he then couldn't help but chuckle a little at her comment. " i would have to agree with that. the heat can be very unforgiving, specially as of late with the drought situation." he now had a smug smirk on his face when she asked him if he was on duty or had the afternoon off. " i'm suppose to be training with my mentor Huojin but i decided i would rather spend my off time today sneaking off to relax in the shade." it was clear he was rather smug about sneaking off from his mentor, since Huojin liked to make sure he sparred and trained daily. " i more than likely will get hell for it later but its so worth it. this is a excellent spot. "

That earned him a laugh - her body shook as she chuckled, ears splaying back against her skull, eyes closing for a few seconds in mirth. "That's fair enough," she agreed, a grin springing forth upon her muzzle as she re-opened her eyes, watching him with newfound interest. "In this heat, hell, I wouldn't want to train, either. And so long as its just a verbal thrashing, you ought to be alright. I just hope your mentor's not the type to deliver more than that, aye?" Eksy didn't know Huojin - but, then again, that didn't mean much. Her own duties took her much further afield these days, and she was rarely within the pride's main territory. The lioness stretched out more comfortably, relaxing in the male's presence, her sides still heaving from the heat. She wondered what on earth drove her ancestors to live in such a place - drought or not, the heat was terrible, especially for someone with so dark a pelt. The ebon-coated female let a short sigh escape her maw, flicking a fly away with her tail as she silently cursed the sun.

Aodhfin was pleased that he was for once actually getting along with someone besides his mentor or some of his family. " oh i think he might get it in his head to do more than a verbal thrashing if my half sister sees to it. but i for now wont worry about that since i like to think i can take on anything they throw my way." snickering, oh he hope huojin didn't let his half sister decide the punishment since he knew she had it out for him. " so do you always come out here to relax after a hunt or did i happen to get lucky this afternoon?"

She smiled wryly at his words. "Half sister?" She asked, a little curious. Sounded like his half-sister was a soldier, whoever she was. And it sounded as if this half-sister would be rather gleeful about seeing Aodhfin get walloped for his 'disobedience.'

"I come out here pretty often," she admitted to the question. "It's one of my stopping spots between hunting grounds. There are three places nearby that the herds will gather at when they're not traveling from place to place ... well, usually. Right now, it's hard to find anything out here, of course. I hate to say it, but we might have to start sneaking into the neighboring lands to find food, even if our neighbors won't particularly like that. We're not going to last too much longer like this." Eksy made a face. "Sorry to rant. It's just damned annoying to go for so long without making a single kill. Normally I'm pretty competent at my job." She gave him a fleeting, wry smile again. "Don't particularly want to go back to being an apprentice huntress again, just 'cause I can't catch anything."

he gave his own wry small at the thought of his rather large family. " yes i come from a rather large family. i have a large amount of half siblings from both my parents along with my own twelve siblings. but i won't bore you with with talk of my crazy big family." giving a small sigh, he did care for his family but they were hard to keep track of. " i hope the drought will let up soon enough. it has made doing anything pretty miserable and a lot tougher. " grumbling, he was not a fan of the horrible drought and what it was doing to the pride. " i have been told its good to get out a rant from time to time. and i doubt they would demote you just because the drought is effecting how much prey is around. they can't expect you to be able to do your duty when theirs hardly any prey." huffing, it would definitely make him want to rant if he was in her situation with hunting. for him he was lucky that all he had to make sure to do was keep his skills sharp and ready for when they are needed but the heat did make that a rather hard task.
