Time had passed some since he'd first come to the flock. His wounds had been tended too and he'd healed over. Things.. weren't as bad as one might have expected in this place. Sure he had boundaries he had to watch and his every move was mostly watched by others for a while.. but it wasn't so bad.. really.. it was kind of a slacker's dream. One could lounge and eat grass all day if they wanted. His short tail bobbed some as he nibbled on a few blades of grass and moved along, passing some males as he moved. He was still getting his barrings though.. curious to know what was in certain areas he hadn't been just yet. Only down side was unless he was with Luinil.. he was stuck out here with these other males like some sort of stallion daycare where they couldn't leave their designated area unless other wise given permission.
Finally tiring of just standing around doing nothing, he busied himself by smoothing out the grass he stood in gently pressing the blades down, forming them into a slightly padded bed before actually buckling to his knees and settling himself down. Still he looked around with his head up and watched those around him curiously. most of them actually seemed to enjoy life here like he was starting to.

My TeepeeLuinil pranced cheerfully towards the males' Safe Zone, her heart full of happiness and joy. The nannies of the flock had confirmed what she'd long hoped for, that she was expecting her first foals! She'd begun to have her own suspicions as her energy levels had seemed to change and her midsection was beginning to show a rounded shape totally at odds with her usual sleek form. It certainly couldn't be fat! As one of the premier huntresses of the flock, she was usually in superb physical shape. But now...after so very many years of enviously watching her sisters bear basket after basket...it was her turn to bring new life to the flock!
As she neared the Safe Zone, she saw her newest pet settled comfortably into the soft green grass. The huge blue stallion was quite a contrast physically to Aranel, the petite fluttercorn male who was the father of the foals she carried. But Finian had his own special charms, including a rather quirky sense of humor that, while occasionally irritating to some of her sisters, quite amused Luinil.
Since he'd settled in so well, she thought it was time to show him one of the additional pasture areas that were part of the flock's territory. They rotated use of these pastures to ensure that there would always be good forage for the flock. The particular pasture Luinil had in mind was probably nice and tall with grass right now. A perfect spot for a bit of bird hunting. Finian could be quite useful in helping flush out her prey, saving her both energy and time and would probably enjoy the change of scene.
She stopped beside Finian and nudged his nice firm rump with her nose. "Come with me, Finian. I'm in the mood for some bird hunting and you're going to help me." Shaking her feathered mane she grinned mischievously at the stallion. "After all, there's only so much hunting I'll be able to do while expecting foals."

He stood up as he was nudged and was about to follow in step with her when one thing hit his mind like a tone of bricks. Foals... "Foals?!" He sputtered and looked around wide eyed. "But.. but I swear.. I never touched you!!!" He looked beside himself trying to figure out the math here. Once thing he was sure about he hadn't done anything that could even remotely result in the making of foals. And he was not visibly worried that some how the queen might be honing in for answers some how.
Eying her mid section closely, he caught up to her keeping step close behind her. "Hunting.. right... Help... foals.. gotcha... I think...." He tried to shift his mind on the task she wanted him to do thinking it better not to overly crowd his mind with too many thoughts just yet. "Birds.. I can do that.."

Luinil couldn’t help chuckling at the dumbfounded expression on the gold and blue stallion’s face as he fell into step behind her. “Their father was my last pet.” Her upbeat mood quickly soured as she regretfully remembered the loss of her talented little fluttercorn. He had been such an exquisite dancer...and so very beautiful…
“He disappeared during a terrible battle the Flock had with some marauding gryphons.” Digging her razor-sharp claws deeper into the warm, brown soil of the path they were following, she continued softly, “Many sisters were badly wounded and much was lost during that horrible time.” She plodded along in silence for a while as her mind cast back to those terrifying moments when her sisters were so vulnerable. Remembering the fear, anguish, and sorrow those damn gryphons had brought to the Flock. Tiny blue and silver pin feathers flew as she shook her head and tail to dispel her increasingly maudlin thoughts. The best revenge was to celebrate the new life within her growing belly. New life and a hope for the future that the gryphons had tried to deny to the harpies.
Turning her attention back to her planned hunt, she halted at the edge of the lush green pasture. Turning to Finian, she whispered quietly, “I will work my way around the edge of the pasture and get into position on the opposite side, down wind. Once I’m in place, I’ll signal for you to begin tromping loudly through the pasture. This should startle any small game or birds, causing them to flee right in my direction. This pasture hasn’t been grazed in months so there should be a nice selection of game hiding in the grasses.” She gave Finian’s neck an affectionate nibble. “Don’t forget. Wait until I signal you.” Despite her plump figure, she slipped gracefully into the trees at the edge of the pasture and disappeared without a sound.

Well. the foals did explain why she had been growing plump... not that he'd have voiced any concerns about it. He shook his head the blue and silver feathers in his mane fluttering about as he did so. He'd been a bit skeptical of this "marking" that had been placed in his mane when he first joined and now, those fluttering feathers were worn with pride. Well now.. the other male made sense. Of course She would have likely had other pets wouldn't she. He chuckled inwardly at the thought. The poor fool had left and now here he was warming his vacant spot. How he had held it for a time in contempt, but. his word had bound him none the less. And admittedly he'd grown to enjoy being her little pet.
He gave a slight snort of disapproval of the attack. Though was it really out of the norm for herds to have differences outside of this territory? Even with their different customs the result was the same no? Still it was a horrible idea..
Snapping histhoughts back from where they had wandered himself, he gave her the full attention of his yellow eyes and nodded. "I'll be sure to be as loud and obnoxious to those critters as you like." He flashed her his signature cheeky grin and chanced to return her nibble before she could slip away. As she left, he shuffled from one hoof to the next, waiting for her to give him the signal to scramble the game.

Luinil eased her way through the underbrush that flourished in the shade of the trees that graced the edge of the verdant pasture. It was more difficult than she wanted to admit to maneuver with her bulker body and she realized that she would soon have to give up even this rudimentary hunting.
The thought made her grumble internally. She was not the type to enjoy simply sitting around her nest all day. As one of the premiere huntresses of the Flock, she helped feed her sisters not just because of innate talent and inclination, but because of intense, rigorous practice and exercise.
A sharp, stabbing pain shot through her abdomen, causing her to stumble and nearly fall. Shocked, she looked around in panic for whatever could have attacked her without warning. There was nothing to see but sun dappled trees and dancing dragonflies. Another agonizing contraction brought her to her knees. “Oh, no! It can’t be…it’s too early…” she huffed, her breath coming in short gasps. An unfamiliar feeling of total fear ripped through her heart as she screamed at the top of her lungs, “FINIAN!!” lysia_nyteblade Tag! Sorry for the delay!

The fear stricken sound of his name echoing across the field perked his ears. Without a second thought, he set out across the grassy span at full speed. Legs stretched to their full extent, he sped off in her direction till he finally reached her side. "What's wrong? Snake bite?" He was looking over her swiftly, trying to access the situation.
There was no snake, no bite.. His eyes scanned about for anything that could be the culprit before finally resting back upon her. The look on her face alone was enough to draw his vision to her plumped belly. "The foals?" Gently, he lowered his head and pushed his muzzle under her chin. "I'll get help."
