The last time Xiu had gone swimming, it had been the very first day that she had moved in. Considering how long it had been, the little Baku was a little surprised when, upon waking up in the morning, the first thought that popped into her mind was that...she really wanted to go to for a swim.
To be honest, she had no idea where that sudden urge had come from, but after eating breakfast and mulling over the idea, she figured...well, why not? Surely there would be no harm in going for a little swim, and she had managed to finish all of her homework for the week anyways. It wasn't as if there was much else for her to do at the moment.
It was early still, so she figured that there wouldn't be too many students in the pool right now. Unfortunately, the time also meant that she probably wouldn't be able to call up any of her friends to ask them to join her (and even then, for reasons of...er, comfort, she probably would have only called on her female friends anyways). Still, this fact didn't deter her enough to give up the idea of swimming. Packing some clean clothes into a bag, Xiu changed into her swimsuit and threw a over-sized t-shirt over that. She quickly pinned her hair up, and then she was ready. With a pat on the head for her Storm Melonkit, the ghoul was heading down the path from the dorms and towards the pool.

On the other hand, there wasn't a day that went by where Marzena didn't go for a swim, although it was mostly dipping in the small pool she had in the room. Then again, she was a selkie, and it wasn't exactly very surprising. Occasionally, she would get frustrated of the lack of size and depth, in comparison to the oceans she had grown up with, like today. It was early in the morning when she decided to make a trip down to the pool, trailed after by a white Scareon permakit Marzena had found exploring her room one day. She had tried shooing it away, but it insisted sticking by her.
...Even leaping into the pool and swimming around in circles around her.
"You have got to be kidding me." Marzena grumbled and then with a deep breath, sank underwater, counting silently as controlled bubbles escaped from her mouth. Now that she didn't have the use of her seal form, she had been practicing holding her breath underwater, to improve herself. Aaaah, it really felt good to have water surrounding her again, with none of the cramped restrictions her in-room pool imposed on her.

The moment she reached the pool, Xiu immediately grabbed a locker for her stuff, peeling off the t-shirt and tossing it in after her bag. Tail swishing behind her, she was clearly impatient to get swimming, but she dutifully went to take a quick rinse beneath the showers first. Once that was done though? The Baku practically slipped in her haste to get to the pool. Once she reached the water, she was about to jump in, when...
"...Oh?" There was someone else here at this hour? ...Someone who looked fairly familiar, in fact. Was that...the ghoul she had met at prom? Marzena, right?
...And was that a Scareon permakit in the water with her?
Unable to help herself, Xiu smiled as she slipped into the pool, making her way to the spot where the Selkie was submerged. Taking a deep breath, she ducked beneath the water and swam around until she was face to face with the other ghoul. She raised a hand to wave, a stream of bubbles trickling from her lips as she grinned.

The little permakit was still swimming circles around her; she was still befuddled as to why would it not leave her alone, as she glanced up towards the surface of the water. Frowning, she concentrated on the peaceful lull of the water, barely noticing when someone else slipped in. It wasn't exactly very surprising, since it was a public pool, after all, but she certainly hadn't expected to see the ghoul she had seen at prom.
Marzena's eyes widened when the familiar face swam into her vision and immediately surfaced, eyebrow raising at the other. At that moment, the permakit stopped and looked up at the selkie with a curious expression on its face. "Oh, don't look at me like that." She muttered sulkily with a roll of her eyes. It wasn't as if this thing was really her pet and she was obliged to answer it and take care of it and stuff like that.
"Xiu, right? The ghoul with the camera." She said, once the other surfaced as well. "You're uh... not a... aquatic creature, right?" She certainly didn't think that sort of tail would belong to one. Marzena sounded genuinely curious; after all, there was so much of the surface she still did not know.

Following the other ghoul's lead, Xiu broke through the surface of the water, taking a few shallow gasps for air. She smiled when the Selkie recalled her name, nodding enthusiastically, "Yes, that's me! It's nice to see you again, Marzena!" Her tail did a slow sway in the water, and then she tilted her head, eyes widening slightly. "An aquatic creature? Nope, I'm a Baku, a type of dream eater."
Marzena, on the other hand...she was an aquatic creature, wasn't she? It had been a little dark during prom so she hadn't noticed, but in the light, Xiu realized that the other ghoul was actually quite pretty. She didn't seem like the smiling type though, which was a pity.
Ah well, she still seemed nice enough? And it wasn't as if Xiu hadn't already met her fair share of grumps (most of whom she loved dearly) so she didn't have anything again the unsmiling types.
Her gaze drifted back to the Scareon now, and she kicked herself forward so that she could get closer. "It's so cute! Is he--she?--yours?" Beaming, she slowly reached her hand out towards the permakit, wondering if it would move away if she tried to pet it.

"Ah," Marzena said simply, feet paddling back and forth gently to keep her head above the surface of the water. "That sounds interesting." It certainly would be problematic for those damned humans if they couldn't sink into dreamland, and perhaps it could even drive one of the weaker ones nuts. "I don't suppose that means you can induce nightmares as well?" That would certainly make her more impressed with these Bakus.
"No." The selkie stated vehemently and with a flick of her hand, splashed the Scareon with some water, though it didn't seem to mind much, simply blinking up at her in an attempt to win her over with how cute it was. Aaaargh. "It's been following me around and it is most certainly not. my. pet." Having a cute pet hang around with her would strive to heighten the misunderstanding that selkies were cute.
The Scareon simply let Xiu pet it, looking happy at this show of affection, and then looked back at Marzena expectantly. "No." She huffed, crossing her arms across her chest.

Blushing at the question, Xiu cleared her throat and shook her head. "N-no, I...I can't. Not yet, anyways!" The second part was added on hastily, and she rubbed the back of her neck, "I'm trying to work on that, but as of right now...I can't do anything to manipulate the dream." Basically, at this point, she was only really an observer in dreams. She hoped to change this...eventually.
She was surprised to learn that the Scareon wasn't the ghoul's pet, and she was even more surprised when the Selkie actually resisted the adorably expectant look the permakit had given her. At once, Xiu scooped the Scareon up in her arms and swam closer to Marzena, her eyes widening.
"But...but Marzena, look how cute it is!" Xiu beamed down at the little creature, before turning her wide-eyed gaze back to the other ghoul, "And it really seems to like you! ...Won't you just give it one little pat on the head?" Now she was staring at her expectantly, tilting her head and holding Scareon out towards her.

"At least your species has the ability to." Marzena observed. Sure, selkies could stir up storms, but her father had never bothered to teach her. But this was why she was here, wasn't she? That and everyone else at Amityville, although she was always inclined to think that most of them had an advantage over her, because she was a selkie. Everyone thought they were pretty much useless at scaring.
"Are. You. Serious." She arched an eyebrow, accompanied by a grimace. "You don't know what I am, do you? You have no idea of the flak I'd get if I accepted it. And I'm really horrible at taking care of things." Her eldest sister, Mira, would certainly agree. "Besides, maybe it's just lost." Yeah, Marzena was pretty much adamant to not adopt the Scareon, although it was not best to mention that after kicking it out of her room last night, she had eventually let it in... only because it had been scratching at the door.
Pets were really really annoying.

"W-well...there's always a way to develop your own skills and powers within your own species...right?" At least, she certainly hoped so. Already, Xiu was strange for her species. She hated eating nightmares, so she typically went for the good dreams when she was peckish. She was beginning to think that she should embrace this strangeness instead of resisting it. Maybe it would make her a scarier Baku?
Frowning, Xiu's ears and tail immediately drooped at the blunt refusal. "...F-flak? Why would you get any for accepting a little Scareon like this?" Again, she held it up so that the creature was eye-level with Marzena. "And...I don't know. Even if it were lost, it seems to be...fairly attached to you?" Kind of looked that way, anyways.
She gently lowered the permakit back into the water, sighing as she peered down at it. "Has it been following you?"

"Darling, I'm a selkie." Marzena pointed out bluntly, figuring that there was no use trying to ask Xiu to guess, even though her seal skin was tied pretty firmly around her waist. "We aren't exactly known for being intimidating. I don't think I've seen another selkie around here..." She trailed off, lost in thought. Then again, she hadn't exactly been paying attention to what was going around in Amityville these days. If there was a selkie around, she would have heard of it, right? At least she knew there wasn't a selkie from her clan.
"I don't know why it's attached to me." She bit her lip, resisting an urge to paddle backwards and away from the creature. "It's probably just lonely and clung onto the first person it saw." There. That made sense. Maybe she should chuck it into some other's window... provided that it was a species that didn't like eating small creatures. Ugh, responsibility. "It was outside my room last night and I just let it in because it wouldn't stop making noise." She glared at the permakit, though the gesture didn't seem to faze it at all.

"Bakus aren't really scary either!" She spoke up quickly, holding up her hands, "But there's always room to improve...right?" At least, she certainly hoped there was. If there wasn't...well, then in that case, Xiu wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to do. If she didn't learn to become scary--or rather, if she resigned herself to be the typical, benevolent Baku--then she wouldn't graduate from the school!
Lonely? "Aww...well, if it is lost, couldn't you...keep him for a while?" Lowering the Scareon, she turned it around, smiling as she lifted the mini up to her face. "It seems to be quite well-behaved! I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble at all!" Her own pet was surprisingly well-behaved, and for that, Xiu was grateful.
