Because their birthdays were before the start of the school year, they didn't realize how close they were in age until their second year at Azure Valley. One day apart, in fact. With all their differences and similarities, it just seemed fitting. To Chris, at least. Daniel had been his closest friend in high school, and he definitely made English class more tolerable. They might not have had the same hobbies — Chris wasn't much of a reader, and he was pretty sure Daniel would have run from a pitch over eighty mph. Daniel was bilingual, and Chris was fluent in solving mathematic equations. They were even close to the same height, only Daniel had a couple inches on him, still.
They were different, but maybe that's why Chris wasn't bored with their friendship, and ever since he'd had to power up in front of Daniel... well, he was just glad he hadn't scared the poor guy off. And it wasn't as though they hadn't hung out on their birthdays on purpose! Things had come up and there were other plans that interfered. Instead, it was tonight that they'd agreed on meeting up to grab something to eat and catch up on what little things could have possibly changed between the time they'd last seen each other.
"So when do I get to meet your girlfriend?" Chris asked after they'd placed orders for their food. Neither of them had said much yet other than bits of small talk, but now that they weren't going to be interrupted. "You guys are going out, right?" Just making sure... knowing Daniel, he might be still thinking it over...

Daniel was pretending everything was normal, that nothing had changed. What else could he do ? This was just all so huge... and so scary. He wasn't sure why fate had decided he was super-hero material.
Because he really wasn't super-hero material. Monsters scared the s**t out of him - that was the bottom line.
Hopefully Chris wouldn't ask how his birthday went. That was... a complicated answer right there. As is, he was hoping to broach the subject of the whole knighthood s**t and how it worked in greater detail when Chris decided to take matters in his own hands.
"Erm." This didn't sound good. "Soon ? I'd need to ask her, through maybe after school starts again ? She's been a little busy with a few things recently..." This was better.

The sigh Chris let out was long and exasperated as he stared at his friend in disbelief. Actually, it was very believable. Of course Daniel wouldn't have asked her out yet. Chris had to wonder if he was ever going to! Or maybe she would get bored of him and move on, who knew? He certainly hoped she was a better person than that!
"Are you even planning on asking her out?? Have you been on dates at all? How long have you known her, Daniel?"
He didn't mean to nag about it... He just didn't want to see his friend hurt because he didn't act when he was supposed to. Sometimes you have to jump, but other times it's okay to stand back and think about things. This... he didn't know the girl or the situation well enough to know if Daniel was edging towards missing his opportunity or not.

...Okay, wall in communication here. "...I did ask her out ?" Kinda. Sort of. Maybe. It was a little more complicated than that. They'd probably had the weirdest first kiss known to existence.
But it wasn't like he could tell Chris that ! Sure, they were all on the same... side... But someone else's secret identity was not something you just played with !
Well, he supposed.
"We went out on my birthday." Oh god, he'd been trying not to think about that. "And shopping before that."
This was probably considered an improvement in some spheres.

"Oh..." Well, that was better. He thought he hadn't even gone on a date with her. That was fine, then. At least Daniel wasn't hesitating too much.
"How did that go?" Chris asked, glancing up as their food was brought to them and he pulled the eating utensils from inside the rolled up napkin and placing the piece of cloth in his lap. "Happy birthday, by the way. Jeez, you're getting so old," he joked, grinning in amusement.
"Did you do anything fun? Other than dinner and shopping, I mean." He hoped he wasn't being too nosey, but it wasn't as though he kept many secrets from Daniel, so it wasn't too horrible of him to be curious, was it?

"That went okay ? I think ? I mean, it's not like I... know how dates usually go..." And most people usually didn't have their dates - both of them - crashed by either a monsters or some crazy-looking lady with long a** hair.
"But it went okay. We had fun. I... bought her flowers. She liked them. And you're one day older than me." He stuck out his tongue. "And always will be !"
Daniel was rattling, through, really, in a way, he was delaying the inevitable.
"Chris, I wanted to ask..."
There was a loud crash of a window breaking.
Daniel wanted to facepalm.

"Younger, math genius. One day younger," he grinned in amusement. He didn't think it was that big a deal, anyway. They were barely twelve hours apart, anyway, or maybe even closer than that. And he was glad that his friend was having fun and doing things like buying the girl he likes flowers. That was definitely a good start to the relationship! He just needed to keep it up and not let the ball drop.
Chris glanced up from his plate when Daniel wanted to ask him something, but what that something was, he never found out.
"s**t, I didn't even feel it," he gasped, jumping up from the table as a long, snake-like youma with an armored head made its way into the establishment, causing people to scream and run in a panic. And hey! At least this dinner wasn't a date! Er... At least Chris didn't consider it a date!
He grabbed onto Daniel's arm before he even had the chance to get all the way up on his own, pulling him with him towards the bathrooms as Chris mumbled something about 'not being seen'. He pushed the purple haired youth into the single toilet room, first, before spinning around to close the door for just a few moments — it's all he needed to power up.
"Get out through the back, okay? Or stay in here and I'll come get you when I get rid of it?" he requested, not knowing if Daniel would rather run or wait around. There was screaming, though, and Valhalla knew he couldn't just sit around when people might be getting hurt.

"Nah, older. You're getting confused, old man." Of course, he knew Chris was born only 12 hours after him. It was just too much fun to poke at him.
When he was sleepy, he didn't even notice. That was always amusing.
But now, they had a bigger problem. Daniel was grapped and dragged off before he could even put a word in, and couldn't help but yelp a bit. This wasn't how he wanted this to go !
Damn it !
And in the toilet stail he went. "Chris, wait !" Well, he had no idea if it was Chris or Valhalla now, but there was one thing.
Was Daniel scared shitless ? You bet your a** he was.
But he wasn't gonna let his best friend go at that thing... whatever it was... No sir. What if no one came, unlike last time ?!
...But s**t, how did he do this thing again ? Ume had a pen, but.... he had nothing ? And he certainly hadn't tried to powerup at all since that night.
Oh dear.

"Just stay here, okay? I'll come back when it's over," he told Daniel, holding out his hand and watching as the compass appeared out of nowhere. He grasped onto the chain and pulled the door open again to head out. There was no time for him to be scared, really. If anything, he was afraid that Daniel might get mixed up in this mess and then what?? His best friend was going to wind up in the hospital like Tony did on more occasions than he'd like.
He was lucky that he hadn't needed hospitalization yet! And then people were getting in accidents completely unrelated to fighting monsters. Like Jada in her car accident, and that DCU student Matthew breaking his ribs in another accident. It just all... sucked.
Inside the main part of the restaurant, people were still trying to get out of the youma's way. One of the waiters seemed to have been cornered in a booth and the monster was heading his way. Without another thought, Valhalla raced forward, picking up one of the chairs from a nearby table, and using it to ram into its head.
Yeah, it didn't like that very much.

"Chris ! Scheiße !" Yeah, this wasn't going well at all. Valhalla was now gone and Daniel finally got out of the stall, a bit late on the uptake.
God damn.
Okay, just... Calm down. One breath. Two.
The crystal took form in front on him, right over his wrist. One touch and the very unfamiliar clothing took form over him.
Oh god. M-Maybe he should just stay here... But what if something happened to Chris ?
Damn.
Then he stepped out of the bathroom, not too aware of what he was supposed to do beside stand there and look utterly silly. Mu flung needles of blood, but he couldn't quite do that. Val had his compass, but all he had was that silly crystal.
....Valhalla also slammed tables into monsters, apparently. Naica couldn't help but stare a little.
Then the monster stared back, and he tried to will himself to stop shaking.
First reflex was take a glass and throw it. It hit the middle of the youma's large forehead.
It didn't like this too much, either.

Valhalla ducked out of reflex when the glass flew past him and hit the youma, shattering everywhere. "What the f--" he started, spinning on the spot to see where the glass had come from, only to stare with wide, curious eyes at the knight behind him. But... where had he come from?? He wasn't there a moment ago, he would have felt him.
Ah, but there was no time to worry about something like a mysterious knight! There was a youma to deal with. A very angry youma, too.
It hissed and spitted angrily at the two, and made a lunge for the light colored knight, but Valhalla kicked it hard in the side to try and regain its attention. "It's coming for you! Don't let it ram you with its head. I think it's plated or something!" Valhalla called over to the knight he'd never seen before.
Well, he definitely didn't want another knight to end up getting hurt in all this!
"Flip the table to shield yourself or something!" Anything!

Shitshitshitshitshitshitshit----
The youma was rushing for him, and Naica froze, like a deer in the headlights. Bad ! Very bad indeed !
Valhalla said flip the table, and that seemed to get him to react - a kick sent the table in between him and the youma, and oddly enough the act of kicking a table hadn't hurt as much as he expected.
Then the youma reamed head first into it and... it splintered. Naica swerved to the left, avoiding the rest of the onslaught, through that was a scarily close call.
"Where do I hit it ?!" How does one mine for fish, indeed. "Scheiße !"
He sent his crystal crashing at the back of the youma's neck. There was a crunch, and Naica winced at the recoil, through given the youma's howling, the newbie had just used his beginner's luck to find the weak point.

What was he doing?? This guy was obviously new to the whole fighting youma business. But at least he was trying, right??
"Ah! There! Find a knife or something!" he suggested scouring the ground for a dropped eating utensil. For being new at this, the guy didn't seem to be doing too bad.
The youma writhed around in pain from being hit, and it was quickly looking for someone to attack. Somehow, it managed to get its long tail wrapped around Chris's leg, causing him to fall, hitting his head on the edge of a booth on the way down.
He winced and tried getting back to his feet, but the youma had taken the time to start winding itself around the rest of his body. Well, s**t... He struggled to kick at it and get free, but it already had him pinned down.
"K-knife! Something sharp! Broken glass!" he sputtered, trying not to panic as he felt the snake begin to squeeze. Okay, this would be a really sucky way to die...

No.
Suddenly, seeing Valhalla - Chris - being squeezed by that... thing made everything go away. All the fear, all the doubts. There was no time for this, as his adrenaline kicked in.
There was no time for fear here. Naica's hand caught another glass - the closest thing at hand - and sent it crashing against the creature's neck, the very same place he'd hit with his crystal. It snarled, but Naica had already taken a glass shard and reamed it as hard as he could manage.
The creature shieked, and it's hold around Valhalla went slack.

Suddenly he felt the snake loosen its grip around him, and Valhalla kicked and pushed at its scaly skin to get out. That short moment was all he needed to wiggle free, and scramble to his feet. Now was a matter of killing it before it had the chance to sink its teeth into either of them, or one of the civilians!
"Look out!" Valhalla shouted at the other knight, grabbing a steak knife that had been dropped from one of the tables, and all but jumping on the youma's back and try to stab it through its scales. The blade didn't do anything, though, and he blinked in surprise. Ah! It must be the neck, where the other knight had stabbed it, that was its weak point.
"Catch!" he called over to him, still using his weight to try and hold the youma in place as he flipped the knife around in his hand so he could toss it to the other young man, handle first. He didn't want to stab him on accident. "Kill it, quick!" He could feel it writhing underneath him, and he was afraid it would try to roll in order to knock him off.
