This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [audio fiend] and Xiu [honeybii].

Setting
On the beach, with the stars starting to show as the sky turns dark. The evening air is soothing and warm, and the faint sigh of the wind whips around while the water crashes against the sand.

The sea was always his favorite place to go when he was younger. Its warm sands and fresh breeze, the taste of salt on his lips and the water around his ankles. It's like nothing changed in the ocean, no matter how bad things are on land; no matter how dark the streets are; how thick the blood flows through the city, nothing can change the ocean except the ocean. If she wished to be stormy and violent she would, and when she was placid, it was the same. No person, or people, could control her. Even the wisest of shamans and quickest of sailors feared the sea.

Sakn loved it here. He stretched his arms high above his head, toes digging deep into the moist sand, and grinned with the foamy waves tickled the tops of his feet before retreating again. He had been here for nearly two hours now, just watching the sun set and the ships float like toys on the nearly smooth surface of the water. It was beautiful, stunning and relaxing. It helped him to come back to reality and stop worrying, and tonight was even better because Xiu had promised to come see him.

He missed Xiu deeply. They rarely saw each other before, a myriad of distress and chaos had kept them apart, and now a days, both of them were busy; Sakn with his training and informant work, and Xiu with his own studies. The fact that they finally would get time to sit and walk and talk together made the redhead rather happy. He was especially fond of Xiu, the younger man was intelligent, eager and stubborn. And not to mention easy on the eye as well. Sakn smirked a little at that and tilted his head to the left, mindlessly thinking about Xiu and the ocean and really just anything that crossed his mind.

And when he glimpsed the priest on the beach, walking towards him, the Fighter stood up, his new jacket (a present from his dear mother) whipped in the sudden burst of wind that came by, and Sakn didn't care that it had blown off, because he was too busy focusing on Xiu to bother. He clasped both hands on the shorter man's shoulders when they came within distance, eyes green and smiling, his lips matching perfectly, and said, "Ben'a while, ain't it? How's everythin'? How're you? Is Bai Hu here t'night?" he had a million more questions, but they could wait for now.

The night was perfect it seemed. The breeze held a hint of warmth as it rustled through Xiu's hair and teased the silk of his robes. It left him with a feeling that was so nostalgic he couldn't help but tremble slightly. How many times had he met Sakn in the darker part of evening? Every one of those moments had been stamped into his mind and he refused to let any of them go, even the terrible ones. Now he would be able to add another night to his collection and the thought sent his heart pounding in his chest.

Even before he made his way down the shallow bluffs to the sandy beach below, Xiu could see Sakn sitting stoically in the distance as the foam of the ocean washed against his feet. Even when he stood, the redhead looked so different, somehow more confident of himself. Xiu wondered how much he'd changed and how much was still the same. Would Sakn still be his Sakn or would he be another man entirely, a stranger? It made Xiu ache to even think about such things, but how long had it been since he'd actually seen Sakn or even talked with him? It felt like all the boyish times from their Academy days were like a dream, leaving him with nothing but fond, vague recollections.

Hurrying his steps, Xiu pressed into the sand as he made his way to Sakn. He ignored the beautiful sight of the ocean, his eyes fixed on the only person who was most important to him. Had Sakn's feelings changed? Xiu shook his head, not wanting to believe that he was being left behind again. Those strong hands on his shoulders were a blessing as they banished all the thoughts from Xiu's mind, leaving him filled only with happiness.

"Yeah, it has," Xiu agreed, his smiling matching Sakn's when those familiar words washed over him. "Everything's good, I'm fine, and Bai is sleeping." He blurted out with a laugh, feeling a blush rise to his cheeks at how childish he sounded. He couldn't help it though. As he stood staring up at Sakn, he couldn't help anything. Without even thinking about it, the youth flung his arms around his friend's neck suddenly, pressing against him in a tight hug while he stood on his tiptoes so he could reach.

"I missed you, Sakn," Xiu whispered, voice thick with emotion as he buried his face in the familiar scent of Sakn's red hair. "You've gotten taller."

The moment Xiu's arms wrapped around him, Sakn felt a rush of relief pass through him. For some reason, he had feared things were different between them; that something had changed the rules of their relationship. But when that sweet scented body pressed against his and Xiu's voice trembled with emotion against him, Sakn felt relieved. His arms wrapped tight around Xiu, holding him for a moment in silence, his head coming to rest against the side of his companions. His heart was pounding heavy and strong, and he could feel Xiu's in the young man's neck when he pressed a single cherishing kiss to his neck.

"I dun' think y'could miss me as much as I have you," he stated teasingly, leaning back enough to look into the monk's eyes without letting him go. Xiu smelled sweet and strong and he loved it as much as he loved the ocean. It was a scent that calmed his senses and eased his body. He ruffled Xiu's hair a little before letting his fingers comb through it as he spoke, "An' you too! I barely recognized you," which was a complete exaggeration; Sakn would never not recognize Xiu, not in a million years, "Ya've gotten taller as well," there was a moment then, of silence and Sakngea wondered what was next. What to say to Xiu? Sorry for never being there? Sorry for all the trouble he caused? Should he not even bring up the past? Should he let it rest and keep moving on? What would Xiu want him to do?

The redhead worried his lip a bit and glanced down at Xiu, connected stares and smiling at him. "Tell me wha' y've been up to, Xiu. I want to hear everythin'," and he did, because he was tired of telling his stories, of recounting every bad thing he had done. He wanted to hear someone tell him about their life, and who better to listen to then the man before him. Xiu had always been there for him, a cherished companion and hopefully a forgiving lover(how cruel and uncaring had he been to Xiu, he wondered if they even stood a chance with all the folly and foolishness of his actions as a young man), and Sakn would sit and listen to him for the rest of time if Xiu wanted him to.

"Please," he added awkwardly to the end, because he was trying this whole new polite thing out. He wasn't sure how much he liked it though. Please and thank you and holding doors for people and bowing....Sakn really wasn't that kind of guy.

Sighing softly, Xiu melted against Sakn and nearly burst into tears when he felt that gentle kiss against his neck. So things were the same after are. Sure, they had both grown and changed, but that strange, special feeling that Xiu felt for Sakn was still there and he somehow felt that it might still be the same for Sakn as well.

When Xiu leaned back from the close hug, he gave Sakn's chin a small, playful kiss before he was smiling all over again. "Mmh, you think I've grown? Maybe there's hope for me yet!" Practically glowing as he laughed, Xiu titled his head slightly, reveling in Sakn's touch. Those familiar fingers felt so nice in his hair, reminding him of all the good times they'd spent together. Maybe now they could finally go back to spending time with each other, like they'd done in the past. Xiu desperately hoped that this would be so and that no other darkness would touch either of them. He knew it was a childish wish, but he'd cling to it all the same.

"I can't say that there's much to tell," he replied honestly, reaching up and smoothing his thumb against Sakn's lower lip to keep the male from worrying it until it bruised. "I went away for a while, to another temple with my master in order to train," he started, before launching into a short description of his time at the water shrine and how he'd further learned to master his magic with the use of charms and sealing spell. All the while, Xiu stayed nestled against Sakn, enjoying the feeling of the redhead's heat too much to want to part with it just yet. "I nearly drowned myself the first time I used my magic too if you can believe it. Master Ziye was furious of course and had me doing dishes for a whole month!"

Xiu laughed and shook his head, the wind helping to whip the dark golden strands around his face. "What about you Sakn? I heard you're the best man at Jianyu's wedding. And is it true that Yue is your half sister? I should have guessed as much. You two are so much alike!" As Xiu spoke, he finally broke away from Sakn and bent to pick up the jacket that had been blow into the sand. He brushed it off until it was clean before offering it to Sakn with another grin. He felt like he was talking about such mundane things, but he couldn't bear to even bring up the bad things that had happened with that evil spirit. Even now, Xiu couldn't help but shudder at the thought. He still hated himself when he remembered how he hadn't seen the signs of the possession or the obvious changes in Sakn. He could only praise the gods that it was all over now.

Sakn found, in that moment, that he could settle into the sand and hold Xiu for the rest of time. the comforting warmth of another body, the vibrations of the smaller man's voice as he smile, moving through him and into Sakngea. The way his smile seemed to glow in the evening's last light. The redhead appreciated and cherished the moment, because they were far between with the city and all of Lunaria herself at war. Sakn was getting better at realizing how important these moments were, and stored them away in that brain of his, another memory stashed away to look back at later.

He listened happily to Xiu talk, though his face turned momentarily sour when Xiu mentioned his drowning accident. The redhead's arms tightened ever so slightly around the blond, as if the ocean might dare to try something similar. It was not a pleasant thought, to think that Xiu might have died and Sakn could have done nothing to stop it. All of his struggling and mislead deeds would have been in vain in the man before him had ceased to exist. The thought both angered and frightened the Fighter. If he had his way, Xiu wouldn't even need to train his magic for fighting, because he wouldn't be apart of this war, but the redhead had sense enough(for now) not to say anything. He just had to remind himself that the monk was capable of taking care of himself, even though Sakngea would make sure to always be there in case he couldn't. Just in case.

Xiu's laughter helped to settle his disgruntled nerves though, and Sakn let his eyes come back to Xiu's, and he twisted his fingers into a strand of those golden locks that had blown away from the rest in the wind. It was soft between his calloused fingers. He smiled at Xiu's questions, and his eyes lit up at the mention of Yue. It had surprised him immensely when Yue had informed him of their connection, but the surprise was not negative. Yue had always felt connected to him, they had easily understood each other, even without words, and it was nice to know there might be a reason for that. "Wussa surprise t'me! the weddin' too. I'da never expected that girly b*****d t'have the guts to ask Yue for 'er hand," the insult to Jianyu was light-hearted, with only a tinge of sarcasm to color it. He watched as Xiu moved to pick up his coat, and when it was dusted and offered to him, the redhead couldn't help but grin back. And when Xiu's eyes drifted for a moment, darkening on some thought or another, Sakngea grabbed the sleeves of his companions robes and pulled him back down into his lap; arms wrapping him tight and holding him. There would be no dark thoughts tonight, not if he could help it.

"I plan t'train under a new master," he stated after a few moments silence. It was a tough decision, because it felt strange to find a master after Sophy, but Sakn couldn't become a better warrior without honing his fighting. Street fighting was useful for surprise, but once someone figured it out, thrashing and swinging became far more dangerous then it was worth. Still, it was strange, and the first time he had actually vocally declared it. It was like breaking a rule or something, "Then I'll protect all've ya, no matter what happens," because that was all he wanted. He didn't care who won any more, just that Xiu and Yue and his mother and father and Kiran, Jianyu; everyone who had made an impression on him, was safe. That was all.

Surprised when he was yanked down again, Xiu burst with more laughter, trying to muffling his chuckling against Sakn's neck after he'd toppled into the other's lap again. Oh, how nice this was! Xiu had thought about being held by Sakn over and over again, the need often plaguing him right before he drifted off to sleep. He felt so safe in the male's arms as contentment filled him. This was how things should be. Xiu didn't want any of it to end ever again and he'd hold onto these feelings for as long as he could.

"Ha! I bet it was," Xiu teased, poking Sakn's forehead lightly once he'd leaned back again, though he made sure to keep one hand securely on Sakn's shoulder. "I would have loved to have been there for that announcement. I guess that means you and Jianyu are going to be brother-in-laws now, right?" He couldn't help but point the fact out. It had always been amusing when Sakn and Jianyu went at each other, especially when it was clear they held a strong camaraderie together. In fact, they seemed very much alike in a lot of ways and Xiu thought it was only fitting that they were soon going to be apart of the same big family.

Smiling, Xiu rested his head against Sakn's shoulder once again, gazing out over the sea as the read head spoke. "Oh? You're not going away again, are you," Xiu asked with a tinge of worry as he watched the tide push the rolling sea water closer to them. If Sakn was leaving, then Xiu was going with him. Even if he had to train with Sakn, he wasn't about to let his friend leave on any more strange journeys. "I hope he's a good master, though I'm sure he is if you've decided to train under him," Xiu added, that teasing smile back on his face against as he kissed Sakn's cheek.

"And you won't have to protect alone," Xiu murmured, his fingers reaching up to twirl a bit of Sakn's red hair affectionately. "Just remember that, okay? I'm here for you and so is Jianyu and everyone else. You're not alone, Sakn."

Sakn listened peacefully as Xiu spoke, his fingers brushing against the other mans back as he spoke. He could almost taste the worry seep off Xiu when he questioned his leaving, and Sakngea pressed his fingers tight to Xiu's spine, a gentle squeeze to reassure him that he would be going no where. He would have said more, but Xiu was already on again, his smile back and place and a gentle kiss pressed to his cheek.

His cheeks warmed ever so slightly. It was a blessing to feel innocent adoration again; to know all his feelings where his. The redhead basked in the feeling that curled up tight in his chest, and when the monk twisted his fingers into Sakngea's hair, he felt his eyes close slowly. Xiu's words curled around him, and he knew he wasn't alone. He had found that out just recently, and it was good to know. But that didn't mean he was eager to let those people he had found and let so close to him go out and fight. If they died, he'd be alone again. The redhead couldn't handle the thought, and he shook off the sadness that threatened the night. Xiu meant well, and his words were soothing.

"I know," he replied just as softly, his hands coming to cup Xiu's face, tilting his head ever so slightly so that Sakn could press a soft, lingering kiss upon his forehead, then his cheeks and finally his lips. It was good to be here, to know he was loved and important. That he had a reason to fight and be strong. After a moment, he pulled back and rested his forehead against Xiu's. He enjoyed the way Xiu always quickly found his eyes and held his stare, and the redhead flashed an affectionate grin and brushed his thumb across the other man's cheek.

"Jus' don' do anythin' crazy, alright?" it was mainly a joke, but only because Sakn hopped Xiu was smart enough to not, you know, do something crazy.
