Weeks had passed since that one night stand that would haunt Theluji for the rest of her life in the best of ways, that impulsive act of passion that had started the process of little ones growing inside her.

The idea of being tied down by children; it had hit her hard, at first, but as she'd had more time to think about it, she almost wondered if it could have been fate. Surely, hanging around Matifu's pride while she waited for the cubs to run their course had changed her outlook on life. Perhaps the Goddess had indeed reeled her in purposefully. After all, she'd just been determined as being aligned with the heavens, it was as if she had been guaranteed a place here -- and if she hadn't had to face the repercussions of coupling with Matifu she might have never realized that perhaps, just perhaps, the life of a rogue was not what she wanted afterall.

Matifu had been everything she'd ever wanted and more. During her more moody moments he'd seemed to know just how much to nudge her and just how much to leave her alone. Despite the drama of expecting cubs, her passion for him had grown over time, blossoming into something like full-fledged love.

Theluji was happy, she really was -- or she would be, at least, if she hadn't been in labor at that very moment. When her water had broken and fierce pains had ripped through her sides, she'd dragged herself into the lush foliage of the jungle for privacy. Now, panting against the searing pain, the white lioness reared back her head and roared. She wanted Matifu there. Now.

Gods it hurt, it hurt so much. The white hot agony of the contractions consumed her, blurring all other thoughts for her mind.

"Matifu!" She bellowed again, her irritable voice sounding furious in her pain.

Shortly before Matifu met Theluji he'd gone off in search of his missing sister. Since then he'd made several near regular visits, but those visits faultered upon meeting the sky-aligned lioness, and they were slowly trickling to a hault by the time the cubs were certain to be on their way. He was hard to unglue from Theluji's side unless she was in one of her moods that indicated the craving for personal space.

You could just about make out the pride from a mile away that he gave off. His mate was going to bear children, THEIR children. Everytime he tried to picture this joy before, well, it didn't even come close to the happiness he felt. It was determined now. He'd follow her ANYWHERE.

He was in the middle of conversing with Mteule when the first roar sounded, and without warning Matifu swiveled his large head and perked his ears, eyes wide. Theluji. She must be going into labor!

The grounds flew by, poor Mteule completely abandoned. Within minutes the great sandy male had emerged before the white lioness with great concern across his features. "Theluji!" He approached and nudged her neck, both apologetic and in hopes of reassuring her. "I'm here, is there anything I can do?"

The ivory pelted female snarled to herself as she hunkered her form slightly lower to the ground, her tail curving in an angry arch as another wave of pain crashed over her body. She squinted her eyes tightly, her face scrunching up. And then she heard his voice. Even in her most primal of agonies, she felt a lessening in the pain. She appreciated the caress at her neck, but after he had nuzzled her she pulled away a couple feet needing a small amount of space.

"Just--" She gasped. "Wait here--with--me--"

Auuggnn!

She could feel them now more than ever, wriggling inside her. They wanted out, but not as much as she wanted them out. As her form wrenched with pain yet again, she arched her back, her muscles contracting in swaths of desperation as she pushed those tiny lives from their current world into the next.

Finally, after another fifteen minutes of struggle, they came, one after the other.

The first tumbled to the ground, moist, wet, encased in a sac of translucent material. Instictively, still in labor, Theluji darted her jaws towards the young male to lick him clean and pull the filmy substance from about his body. Under the moisture, he was a deep russet brown crisscrossed with yellow and black markings, telling of his earthly heritage

Almost as suddenly came the second, a sticky blur of an infant, and when Theluji had cleaned him too it was clear that his closely cropped fur was pale gold, the same color as the fine fur on his father.

For a few minutes it seemed that was the end. Two beautiful--and thankfully healthy--sons. Still panting, Theluji smiled tiredly at their father, pride showing through even in the haggard grin.

But suddenly another ripple of discomfort coursed through her form, and after another moment of painful labor, a third newborn tumbled from her form. He was slightly smaller than the others, and as Theluji bent over to brush her rough tongue along his tiny form, it became clear that this one took after his mother, with a white based pelt.

The third, the runt, mewled plaintively on the spot, extremely distressed at the process of having to vacate his world of warmth. All at once he sneezed, a mucus-y bubble rising from his nose.

It was over, Theluji's body told her now, pacifying her worries of another painful birth. She gasped a breath and with her large paws, herded her three young ones close to her, laying her snowy body down around them like a protective wall, urging them to suckle. Her yellow coin eyes landed on Matifu and she smiled again, basking in the knowledge that finally, for one in her life, she had something of a family.

(( ^~^ Hope you guys don't mind that I did it all at once! You can backtrack in the post to when Oro and Roho are born and RP their coming out too, of course! *hugs the family* ))

Matifu was at a loss for what to do. It made him tense! He'd begun to pace anxiously, the worry still evident on his face.

Each pained cry from Theluji caused his fur to bristle and his panic to spike a little higher, but by some miracle he remained with it enough to offer her encouraging and soothing words.

It made him angry! His mate was in pain and what could he do about it? Technically it was all his fault, so he should be angry with himself? But no, they both knew that the gift that came after the pain would be worth it, and Theluji did a fine job of reinforcing this with each proud smile she sent to the male. She was handling this beautifully, though he wished with all his might he could do something about the pain. She was going to be exhausted when she was done, he was sure, at some point he'd need to find food for her as well.

As the first boy was birthed, Matifu's pacing abruptly stopped and... incidentally enough, so did his thoughts and breathing. It was only after Theluji moved forward to begin cleaning off the mucus covered little one that the big male snapped out of his daze with a sharp intake of breath.

A second followed seemingly before he knew what was happening, and a third. When it was certain that no more would come forth, Matifu's eyes fell to Theluji, and his expression was a canvas of awe. He came behind and beside her, leaning his head down to rub against hers with a loud, but soft purr.

"Theluji, you did wonderful, are they all alright? Are you alright?"

Cold, so cold! The agony! The humanity! Left to fend on his own with nothing but another squirming lump to-- wait... what the hell? A THIRD squirming lump? This one even smaller than them! Second-born gave an indignant cry that was cut short as he was brought in to warmth all of a sudden, and he felt his nerves soothed drastically. Oh...! This was nice...! This was really nice, actually. His crying ceased, he reached out a paw to investigate this new development, and found it met clumsily with a wall of more of the same warmth, and some kind of lump. That seemed to trigger his stomach, and he greedily latched on to begin feeding with the first strange sensations of wanting coursing through his miniscule frame.

He was vaguely aware of another hovering protectively over the four of them, but the wall of warmth and gurgling-tummyy-feeling-stopper was here, he couldn't be bothered with a stranger right now. He just wanted to eat and be warm, rest, then maybe see about squirming some more. He'd soon come to know these four as his family, but for now life wasn't yet that complex.

"They're beautiful..." Matifu finally breathed in awe, staring at the three boys with the look of a curious and wonder-struck cub.

What the hell was going on! The warmth that encompasses the cub had been roughly ripped away and his tiny russet hued body was exposed to the cold, cold air of the world. This wasn't right. He wanted back IN! It was warm in there and cold out here!

Whoa...what was that? Tiny mewling and squeaks escaped the young lion, his lungs strong and he showed it. What was this wriggling lump beside him? And this warm prescence in front of him? Wrinkles face scrunched up more and he wiggled around, his lungs continuing to help bellow his tiny voice around the den.

Stretching tiny limbs he pushed against the warm body in front of him, tiny claws extending but doing nothing more than prodding the living thing. Finally the sound of suckling next to him directed closed eyes to the wriggling lump beside him. Forcefully he wriggled toward the sound and attempted to steal the source of the milk from this body. It was his, not htis other...things. A few more mewls escaped his mouth before he shoved his face against the warm large body and began suckling upon the stolen n****e.

"Nywrreerr!" The third squirming baby opened his bright pink mouth to let out a second pitious cry. His mother's sandpapery tongue had pacified him momentarily, but it had retreated now, and again he felt the unnatural cold of the outside world around him. After young one cleared his lungs with another mix of a sneeze and a cough, he toddled blindly towards the wall of snowy white fur which he knew only by the slight warmth it gave off, and pressed his tiny form against it in a spread eagle, merely savoring the warmth for a moment. Soon, his insticts kicked in and he latched on to feed. He felt the form of a brother beside him and pressed into it reflexively.

Theluji snorted with humor at her young ones' antics. Already they seemed to be showing inherent differences in personalities. The first little boy squeaked with vigor, jostling the others aside to feed while the second seemed to show already show hints of a blind curiosity, the foundation of any intelligence. Then there was the third. He was certainly dogmatic about letting the world hear his suffering. Theluji smiled, and then turned up to her mate at his gentle words.

"I'm just fine." She said, her smile staying on her face as she stretched slightly. "And I think they're fine too, if not a little disgruntled."

Again, she let her golden gaze fall on her suckling newborns. A rush of motherly pride filled her. She had brought these lives into the world.

"They are..." She echoed Matifu, a new warmth in her tones. "What will we call them?" Her eyes wandered back up to meet her lover's.

The second born protested rather verbally, being shoved aside by one of those squirming piles and crowded by the other. He KNEW they were nothing but trouble!

Feeling cheated he meweled pathetically, trying to find another nearby food source and for a few moments latching onto his older brother's ear before realizing that-- no, that wasn't food.

Matifu gave a warm chuckle as he watched their boys learn their way, and as-- oh dear, second born finally opted to rob third born of his food supply instead.

"They certainly act like brothers." He rumbled softly, nuzzling his mate again before moving around to close off the circle. Theluji's question brought thought to Matifu. They WOULD need names and, then they'd need to be blessed by the twins and Kiva.

His eyes roamed over the first born, taking in his markings. They weren't fully defined yet but already the little one seemed to have fallen right out of Matifu's mane. The adult watched him push around his brother without hesitation and a thought came to him.

"He's strong spirited... perhaps.... Kiamba? ... Kiamba'Roho..."

Theluji's body offered up the softest of purrs as her mate lay beside her, curving his own protective body around the cubs as well. The young ones were enclosed in a perfect circle of safety. The white lioness turned her eyes towards her newborns, watching their movements closely, watching their tiny muscles contract and release in patterns that would hint of the personalities they would take on throughout their lives.

She nodded in appreciation of Matifu's choice for the first born. "Strong indeed. He'll be trouble." She grinned mischievously to Matifu. "His Daddy will have to keep him in check."

Theluji gave a soft, tinkling laugh as the second born shrewdly decided to vacate Roho's territory and encroach on the less prepared runt's. The third born squeaked in confusion as he was bowled over slightly, not knowing quite what to make of his situation. When at last he realized he was no longer being nourished, he began to cry again.

"Oh, hush hush hush," Theluji said softly, herding him towards a different n****e with her paw, quelling his pitiful complaints. She glanced towards the beige male, the second born, wheels of her mind turning in speculation.

"I think this one will be like his father in more than pelt. Quick? Kasi--? No... Smooth. Yes, that's it. Ororo'Lisani." She glanced toward Matifu to see what he thought.

Matifu's eyebrow rose with amusement at the naming choice. So she thought that he had a way with words, did she?

Another rolling rumble coursed softly through the male, and he gave a small laugh. "Fair enough... it seems a very suiting name for him indeed."

Pale blue eyes roamed over the last, taking in the last born, the one that took so much after his mother in coloration, but for the blue that he had both in his fur and in his eyes. He seemed very...

"Cautious, careful."

It was an odd name for a child, but really, no more so than any of theirs.

"Tulivu." He smiled, looking to Theluji for approval or not.

She flickered her ears towards her mate's voice as he searched for a name for their final child. "To put it gently." Theluji laughed, then gazed up into Matifu's eyes. "I love it."

The newly christened Tulivu, quite unaware of his new moniker, had satiated the appetite his small stomach had demanded and was now fumbling through a warm haze of drowziness. He pressed himself into his mother, nestling under the thick fur of her belly, and snorted as if to clear his head before hunkering down to nap.

Theluji snuggled into her mate's thick mane, pride still tickling her insides with warm golden fingers. A new beginning. A new start.
