Hi everyone! I have a favor to ask. That is, I need some information on various deities. I'm doing research for an idea for a graphic novel I've recently come up with.
TL;DR: Looking for info on badass godesses/demigods/heroines/female warriors
I've always had an interest in mythology of all sorts of cultures. Part of the book involves various ancient societies of warrior women (and some individual war goddesses) working together in certain ways.
The plot (what there is) a bit complicated, and even I haven't got it all worked out yet, but the heroes at one point will have to visit a lot of varying ancient cultures at different points in time--and for the purposes of the story all gods from every pantheon imaginable exist outside the boundaries of time and space, almost in their own seperate universes, able to travel freely to earth at any point in human history.
Rather than only studying literary mythology, I figured it will also be helpful to consult the point of view of people who worship, or may know facts about the worship, of these ancient deities. Especially since the one of the main characters is a reconsructionist pagan.
So, I figured this would be a good place to start my search.
I'm mostly looking for an facts, interesting myths, or good resources for any sort of female warriors and/or female war goddesses. Also, any sort of spirit (like the Celtic Aislinn and Greek nymphs) who appears exclusively as female.
(Note: This story won't exclusively feature female characters by any means, but this is the certain part of the story I am working on right now.)
A list of those that I already know I'm going to be including:
(This list contains Gods, demigods, and heroines)
Greek The Amazons Otrera Penthesilia Menallipe Hypolita Antiope Artemis Hera Aphrodite Athena the Nymphs The Muses
Norse The Valkyries Freya Skadi Brunhild
Celtic/Briton The Aislinn (female spirits of inspiration) Morrigan Etain Liath Luachra Ness/Assa Bedb Brigid Scathach Uathach Aoife Boudica
Any interesting info on any of the above, or any other goddesses/heroines you might know of, from ANY culture, would be appreciated. This includes any interesting websites or other reading material you can point me towards.
Thanks for your time.

As a practicing Discordian, I would be highly remiss (or not), if I failed to remind you of Eris, the Greek Goddess of Chaos and Discord. Sure, she's responsible for the Trojan War, is more blamed than worshiped, but IMNSHO she's not evil, just a little bitchy. (I had more to say to Vwytche, which would have gotten me into trouble, if getting into trouble wouldn't have proven my point.) cool
