There was a lull in her day at the moment.

She didn’t have any assignments to do, no one to spar with, and nothing that needed her attention urgently at the moment. Hel sighed. In an attempt to hopefully stumble upon something to entertain herself, the reaper had taken to just meandering around the campus grounds. You had to go looking for adventure, right? It didn’t always come to you, as nice as that thought would have been!

The reaper paused as a shadow flew on overhead, and picking her gaze up, Hel spotted a few crows (or were they ravens?) just standing off to the side of the path she was on. Huh! She rubbed her chin thoughtfully as she stared at them. Were crows and ravens the same thing, she suddenly wondered, and decided to see if she could find the answer to that later, but for now, it was something to do! The ghoul fished around on her apron pockets until she pulled out small thing of crackers and took one out, crumbling it in her hand before spreading it out for the crows to eat.

Eracs was having the most wonderful day so far. He got to start setting up his room first. A room! His very own in fact. Didn't have to share it with anything else, odd creatures or anything, just all to himself. At the moment he didn't have much to put it in but leave it to him to find odd and random things for it as time went on. He had also attended a class already. That had been exciting since he got to meet so many wonderful students. Not to mention the class itself was exciting and he was already learning so much!

He was now exploring the campus some. Even though he had lived his previously on campus his entire existence, he never got to see any of it. Sure he knew the layout of some things from what he had heard but never got to see it with his own ... well he didn't have eyes, er, eye sockets?

Up the path ahead he saw another student. How exciting, another possible friend! He stopped when he got closer. They had wings. Things with wings always made him nervous. Though a friend from an earlier trip was a raven and he turned out to be fine. This one seemed to have not crow looking wings, he hoped they would be nice.

Eracs decided to approach the student. "Hello! My name is Eracs what is yours..." It was then when he was very close he noticed the crows on the ground. Jack why were they crows? One of them noticed him, stopped nibbling on the cracker and just watched him. It went back to eating it's cracker but kept an eye on him. He hoped it would continue eating and leave him be for once.

Hel was entertained for now, watching the crows happily take to the crackers she offered. She tossed out a few more here and there, easily attracting more of the black birds to the snack gathering. The reaper immediately whipped around on her heel though as soon as someone approached and greeted her, along with a name, a grin immediately coming to her face. Oh, new friends! “Why hello to you as well, my name is—“

She paused once she caught sight of who addressed her.

Was…that a scarecrow? Hel blinked, dumbfounded. Was it…walking and talking…at her? Coming from a rural setting, the ghoul was rather used to seeing scarecrows in fields, but not one in a school setting that moved! The crows were immediately forgotten for now in favor of figuring out this new puzzle, and she discarded the cracks she had as she marched right on over to Eracs, peering at his sack head and eye sockets. She waved a dark hand a bit at him as a brow rose. “…My name is Hel…” She then noted the skull pin on his hat. “You’re….a student here?”

Eracs kept an eye socket on the crows, he was suspicious of them. He didn't suspect that the other student was the owner of them or was fond of them but ... well he just hoped today he wasn't going to be attacked by the things for once. For the moment they seemed content with the crackers and the other student wasn't concentrating on them too much. What luck! They seemed just as happy to meet someone new as well. Besides the crows, it was a wonderful day for the scarecrow.

For some reason the ghoul looked surprised when she saw him. Was something on him, behind him? He quickly turned around. Nope nothing back there. He looked up and checked his hat. Again nothing. He wondered for a moment what they were looking at but shrugged and smiled.

Oh and look! The ghoul did want to talk and was coming over. The crows were down munching down on the rest of the discarded crackers and would hopefully be content for a while longer. She was now looking at him oddly. Was something wrong with himself? The thought was forgotten. Eracs waved a hand back. "Good to meet you, Hel!" Such a nice name! "And yes, it's my very first day here." He grinned happily. "I was just moving the last of my things from the shed to my room. It's nice having my very own room. Have you been here very long?"

When Eracs turned around after looking back, he’d find the valkyrie merely inches away from him. She stared at him with scrutiny, because she still couldn’t believe that a scarecrow was up and about and talking and addressing her. He was even a student here! No eyes…but…sockets…?

Huh.

The reaper leaned back after a moment and rested her hands on her hips. She was thoroughly intrigued and curious about this Eracs. “Oh, you’re first day?” She echoed and her brow furrowed as he talked about moving out of the shed. Uh…really…he came from a shed? “Ah…yes, having your own room is very nice.” She agreed, a smile coming to her lips now, the more they moved into a conversation. Besides, she could also sympathize with the ‘own room’ deal, and she was still getting use to having her own space. “I’ve been here for a few weeks already, but regardless, welcome to the Academy!” Hey, it was his first day, might as well welcome the boil!

How do you like it here, thus far?”
PostPosted: Sun Sep 04, 2011 8:32 pm

He wasn't very startled at all when he turned to find the ghoul close to him. The boil was just excited at another new friend. What was she looking at now. Him still? Eracs didn't think he was odd but well, he still did not know many people. Yet. He would soon come to learn that he was odd but not yet.

He nodded excitedly at the mention of his first day. For many weeks he'd probably be excited. "Is this your first own room too? Are you from around here or from far." The boil only knew the shed, parts of the school and that strange place he went on that trip once. "A few weeks! Have you had any class, I'm interested in taking some of those." Eracs still wasn't sure what classes were exactly but he'd figure that out as he went. He grinned.

"Oh I like it so much! I've been here once before and was allowed on some sort of field trip months ago with the school!" The trip, how fun that was!

Now that she was starting to get over the surprise of talking to a scarecrow, the more the reaper took in Eracs appearance she couldn’t help but snort softly. You had to give her some credit, she was trying not to be rude, because she wasn’t laughing at Eracs. No, she was just thinking about one of her friends, a reaper with a cowboil theme, who was rather thin and like a stick but….

But, oh Jack, Mot had nothing on this scarecrow! Talk about being a stick, literally! Eracs’ arms were so thin! She thought she could snap them in half if she wanted to!

Ah…” Hel was distracted from her humorous thoughts. “It is, actually! I come from very far, and back at home I had to share a room with one of my sisters…” She trailed off for a moment, not use to being on this end of a question barrage. Usually she was the one doing all the questioning! “Yes, just a few thus far though, they are very exciting!” Not to mention terribly fun. At the mention about a field trip though, Hel’s curiosity was piqued. “Oh? What did you do on this field trip?”
PostPosted: Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:19 pm

Eracs himself was still trying to get use to seeing students of all sizes and get over that they were all flesh unlike him. Most seemed to be shorter than him, some even very small, only a few taller. He supposed that sticks were the easiest things to find when he was being created though he wasn't sure what else he could have been made from. At least he didn't have a pumpkin for a head.

He clapped his hands together once in excitement. She was from far away! "How far is far? Or really did it take long to get here? What's having sister's like." So started more questions. Eracs believed he knew what a sister was, possibly. The idea of having someone live with you was interesting but he did see the point of no privacy. Classes, oh how he couldn't wait to start those.

"Well! We went to this place that was all white, uh." Oh what was it called, he was talking about it earlier. "Christmas Town, that is it. How exciting that trip was. And also strangely JOYful."

How far was far? “Uh…it takes a day’s train ride to get here from home?” Hel offered, hoping that answered the question. That was the best way she could describe it. At being questioned about what it was like to have sisters though, Hel rubbed her chin. Uh…how did one answer that? She didn’t know what it was like to not have sisters. “It’s…always lively at home, energetic…there’s always someone there to do chores with and to laugh and sing with…” The reaper rubbed the back of her neck. “I suppose it’s like having friends over all the time?”

As the boil went on to describe one of the field trips though, Hel looked terribly intrigued. “All…white?” She echoed. “Christmas Town…?” At the mention of JOY though, Hel made a face. “…W..what?” Obviously Eracs needed to go into more detail, as that was the look the reaper was giving him.

Eracs nodded but hadn't the slightest how far it really was. He did know that it involved a train which meant it was far. Much further than his walk from the shed to his new room. "Friends! How wonderful that must be. I did have some ... companions where I had lived but never any friends." Or siblings obviously but he'd mentioned that. He was still very excited about being able to make friends.

Again he nodded. "They took us on one of those train things and some creature attacked us on it!" It had been a glorious battle, he'd also made some friends. "When they let us off those trains strange short people told us to make our way to some sort of work shop and on the ways trees attacked us!" Among other various things. "There was also more fighting and a fire." He shivered at the thought of the fire.

Hel furrowed her brows when Eracs talked about friends and companions. “…Aren’t…they the same thing?” The reaper questioned, confused about the subject. They seemed like they would be the same thing to her…but then again, friend and companion were interchangeable in her book.

But, oh Jack, the way Eracs was describing this field trip, it caused the reaper to get an itch for battle as well. All that battling!? Where had she been when this happened!? Oh yeah…back at home, starting to go through the motions of trying to get accepted into the Academy. Bummer! “Do you think there will be any more field trips like that?” She asked eagerly.

Eracs shook his head then stopped. Were they the same thing? He needed a moment to think on that. "Are they? The things in the shed were never very nice to me, I'd imagine friends would be nicer." In his little world they would be anyway. He'd have to remember to go look up those words in that library place later.

He nodded excitedly. "Oh yes I hope so! I had been talking to another student, one that has been here much longer than I have." Or at the school anyway. "She'd been on something called a boat and they went to an island. She said they go on these trips a lot!" Of course there had been fighting and all sorts of fun going on, on that one too. "Perhaps there will be another soon, won't that be exciting?"

Uh…” Now Hel suddenly wasn’t so sure! Weren’t they the same thing? “Oh! Well…if they weren’t nice to you, then they sound like your enemies!” The reaper informed with a nod.

The ghoul was intrigued as Eracs described another field strip he heard from another student, and nodded her head. Oooh…a boat and an island, huh? She was going to have to start asking her friends about that! Oooh…maybe she’d ask Jericho? The dragon boil had been here a while and he said he had gone on a few already. Yes…it’d be good to get more details. Hel grinned and gave a firm nod of her head. “Yes, that would be exciting!”

Here, she paused and looked around though, as suddenly there seemed to be quite a few crows at her feet, staring at her. Hel blinked, staring back down at them, and couldn’t help but note the way some of them seemed to eye Eracs. She didn’t seem alarmed though, they probably just wanted more crackers! She fished through her apron pocket once more and pulled out another small bag of them. “Say there friend, you want some crackers to feed the crows too?”
PostPosted: Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:10 pm

Eracs scratched his straw hair. Huh. Well that did make some sense. He never liked the word enemies that much and tried to think of everyone as a friend. Hel was right though, friends shouldn't be mean!

Again he just nodded excitedly about the idea of more field trips. He was so happy that she'd said they were friends that he almost missed what she had said. The boil shook his head side to side, fast. He would have gulped, had he a proper throat. "No, no, I'mmmm, I don't like crows." Wait, would being even more nice to the creatures that liked to attack him maybe make them not do that? "Does, um, feeding them make them nicer?"

The reaper looked surprised when Eracs admitted that he didn’t like crows, and paused, staring down at the ones all around them. Er wait…did their numbers just increase while she wasn’t looking? Huh…Oh well, she had lots of crackers for them! “Make them nicer…? Uh…” They were mean in the first place? The ghoul stiffened briefly as a crow landed on her shoulder and then cocked its head, staring at her.

This suddenly felt ominous.

“…I think so?” She replied after a moment, digging around in her apron for another pack of crackers, and held it out to the scarecrow student. After it was taken from her, Hel reached into her pack and pulled out some more, sprinkling them along the ground for the crows. She then pulled one out an offered it to the crow on her shoulder, feeling a tad relieved as it took it well enough and consumed it. “So…uh, why don’t you like crows?”
